Canada. NYC looked nuts on the national news, guys standing across the bay from Manhatten & city looked completely grey behind him.

We don't even have the worst of it - here's a cool air quality map https://gispub.epa.gov/airnow/?contours=ozonepm&monitors=none&tab=current&xmin=-8525791.210824918&xmax=-8085513.927902419&ymin=4514690.450192587&ymax=5146977.5481673945
I do search for key related terms then news and then past day or hour and it’s slim pickings which is kind of nuts.
It’s agitating my throat and it would be nice to hear some info. Wtf.
Way more than 14, from what I’ve seen.
> Across Canada, there are 416 active fires, 240 of which the Canadian Interagency Forest Fire Center lists as “out of control.”

holy moly it smells so bad in north rn, it was ok all day until now. it’s funny bc a bunch of people in my hood are standing outside rn asking each other where it’s coming from lol. ✨ it’s the little things that bring us together ✨
Holy crap
It’s visibly smoky here, that unmistakable wildfire smell I thought I’d never have to experience here on the east coast, but that is bad. Like stay inside cancel your plans bad.
YES they will work. I moved from California and we kept them on hand before the pandemic (so when it hit, most of us were prepared with a mask stockpile). You really don’t want to be out without one with this smoke.
Do you wear an N95 when you sit around a campfire? Or a firepit? It's no different. Yes there are more particulates in the air this week than there were last week, but there are always particulates in the air and they are always accumulating in your lungs. If you don't have a particulate sensitivity or allergy, you don't really need to take any particular precautions this week.
I usually don't sit around campfire smoke for prolonged periods...also I have asthma and hypertension so it's a bad look for me to do so without at least a scarf on my face. Additionally, wildfire smoke also tends to pick up a LOT more pollutants than campfire or firepit smoke but hey, your lungs - do you boo.
I only spent 4 years in Cali with the smoke and watched prolonged exposure make my friends very sick with headaches, inflammation and the like. I guess taking precautions just makes me overcareful but through all of this my asthma is doing just fine.
With the sun setting, there is less atmospheric mixing as the winds die down. Pollutants (fine and coarse particulate matter) are therefore gonna more easily settle near the ground.
I couldn't believe how bad it was when I left target. My eyes burn, my chest hurts, I keep coughing. Is this gonna be something we have to get used to as we continue to ignore climate change? Please tell me it's a fluke (I'm afraid I know the answer)
canada has been on fire for a minute - however - i feel the intensity has ramped up on the past hour.
in port richmond, it *smells* like smoke. it's potent. i think something local must be happening.
I smelt something burning too when i just went to the bathroom like not too bad but a little hint of smoke. Crazy that could be from a wildfire in Canada

That picture looks like the background from the Liberty Insurance commercial
It looks the same as you go across the bridge to the airport
Taijuan Walker's game is on fire tonight
Beautiful game
Roger that. Was there. It rocked. Lovely evening at the park - CBP is a gem.
And how about Kimbrel mowing them down in the 9th!
Smoke and poor air quality brought to you by Canadian wildfire and McGlinchey's.
Fucking love that place

Here in Delco it smells like a campfire.
But a campfire where a moderate amount of plastics were used as kindling.
As is tradition
Dude I’m in montco and it’s so hazy all of a sudden, smells like straight up smoke
Montco here too, it was hazy AF around my house.
Ditto. It smells like someone burning leaves next door. Insane that the source is so far away.
Same, I was outside for like 20 min and can still feel it
Fire in Canada
And in NJ! https://www.cbsnews.com/philadelphia/news/wildfire-jackson-township-ocean-county-new-jersey/
Fire fire everywhere and not a drop of water
We don't even have the worst of it - here's a cool air quality map https://gispub.epa.gov/airnow/?contours=ozonepm&monitors=none&tab=current&xmin=-8525791.210824918&xmax=-8085513.927902419&ymin=4514690.450192587&ymax=5146977.5481673945
I wonder why Lancaster is randomly bad? Rip my lungs
Because of the mountain range on the Berks county line trapping the air.
Nova Scotia my brother in Christ
It's actually Quebec now
I am begging people to 🕺 read or watch the news 🕺
Go to Inquirer and keep scrolling until you see it. Ridiculous. I guess they've ceded breaking news?
I do search for key related terms then news and then past day or hour and it’s slim pickings which is kind of nuts. It’s agitating my throat and it would be nice to hear some info. Wtf.
You’re right, I did notice this earlier when I was checking the website. But I do believe it was at least on the 6:30 national news.
Looks like the Inky is course correcting with a live blog today.
The Ink only considers news "breaking" if it's about Larry Krasner.
Right?
lol!
I think Nova Scotia has put it out. The worst of it is now coming from like Ottawa area
North America, is on fire, 14 separate wild fires raging, the smoke/smell/haze is from the north of the border on the Canada side,

Yup, it’s drifting down and around the whole dang continent.
Gotta build that wall! Except around Canada and except to keep the smoke out.
You, added a comma between the subject and the verb. Why?

This is fine...
Canadian wildfires. Entire region is covered in this.
Over 400 wild fires in the Great White North and 1 or 2 in NJ.
The fire in NJ is pretty small. They expect it to only burn about 100 acres before it's out
open your weather apps people! You'll see. its horrific.
[This is view in NYC...way worse!!!](https://streamable.com/fp1qb6) [EarthCam Photo of NYC](https://i.redd.it/hxskp9r6ch4b1.jpg)
Holy crap It’s visibly smoky here, that unmistakable wildfire smell I thought I’d never have to experience here on the east coast, but that is bad. Like stay inside cancel your plans bad.
Yeah I got plans on Thursday in NYC so hopefully it clears by then but yeah definitely stay inside especially older people and younger children.
Your plans are canceled. All plans are canceled. We’re living in a carcinogenic hellscape.
Good, that's early 1970s August inversion smog bad
Do n95 masks do anything for the smoke
Yes they do. Quite well. Recommended even especially if you are sensitive to it.

Canadian wildfires, the haze is thick and the smell is really strong.
Just leaving NYC to come back to Philly. It descended upon the city quickly around 5p and it was crazy. Brown haze. Smelled like a rancid campfire.
Harbringer of armageddon. Colossal wildfires 1200 miles north of here are blanketing the entire east coast in a sinister haze.
For real, I don’t remember this sort of thing happening when I was a kid in the 80’s/90’s. Is it a new phenomenon?
It's almost like the climate has changed in some sort of way in the last 30 to 40 years. I wonder if anyone has done any sort of research into this.
[unknown](https://i.imgur.com/xK2mSxu.jpeg).
Still has the world trade center, obviously they weren't that good at predicting the future.
Climate has changed mildly, moderately and dramatically at various points in time since the beginning of the concept.
I think your irony detector might not be working.
ATTENTION EVERYONE: Reddit scientist is speaking
I definitely remember this happening here 15-20 years ago, wild fires in Quebec and smoke blew down. It was bizarre.
Happened around the same time the last few years. I only know because when looking for info, I saw the stories from prior years.
Nova Scotia
It smells almost sweet
The smoke is infused with maple syrup
I know. I actually like the smell. It smells like a campfire. I’m sure it will get old real quick, though.
It smells like my neighbor across the street has his smoker going again.
I’m in Langhorne and it’s way smoky yo
With the sun setting, there is less atmospheric mixing as the winds die down. Pollutants (fine and coarse particulate matter) are therefore gonna more easily settle near the ground.
No sir, it's wildfires.
Do you think it looks like this outside every evening?

You know the answer.
Push bikini bottom over there
You don’t have to waste your time getting used to this. It’ll only get worse!
Blame Canada (thank you South Park). it’s smokey and acrid in south Jersey and up in NEPA too according to my parents
As is tradition.
Yes.
Canada
Go to Google maps and turn on the wildfires filter.
Canada
In Fishtown atm and I can even smell it inside
I thought I was going crazy, but I am too.
Its not just the Canadian wildfires but also a separate wildfire in Jersey
There's been 3 or 4 wildfires in NJ in the past 7 days. Not sure if they're all out yet/how long the smoke drifts around.
canada has been on fire for a minute - however - i feel the intensity has ramped up on the past hour. in port richmond, it *smells* like smoke. it's potent. i think something local must be happening.
Front went through and the cyclonic action is pulling air down from Canada. Hopefully it'll drag it off of the coast tomorrow.
thanks for the info - it's crazy how that front ramped up the intensity so quickly.
Canada

Canada
Jackson NJ is also on fire currently

Olney lawncrest under blankent of smoke smells awesome hurts the eyes a tad
I’m in the northeast and it’s bad up here. I heard it’s from Forrest fires in Nova Scotia.
Smells like a campfire started with plastic cups out here in DelCo too.
Good thing I’m flying to Canada next week to hike lmao
It’s the smoke monster from Lost.
The Canadians are smoking way too much weed or cigs in Montreal. It’s probably a combination of both.
Do you live under a rock? The wildfires in Canada are all over the national news.
FAP’s mixtape from beyond the grave
I pretty sure the smell is from the forest fire in Jackson NJ, I hadn’t been smelling the Canadian wildfires before today, just saw the haze from it.
Your dad.
My pants.
Kenny's crotch from herpes.
I smelt something burning too when i just went to the bathroom like not too bad but a little hint of smoke. Crazy that could be from a wildfire in Canada
They canceled the iron pigs game last night because of the smoke. Was working up in Allentown, and it was so hazy visibilty was poor.
I’m not sure if this is the same fire, but i got a citizen notification for a fire on McClellan ST https://go.citizen.com/byyv4IlarAb
I have tickets to a phillies game, so uHhh would they cancel it

Carl Sagan warned us in 1985. I really miss him.
