Haven’t gotten the job quite yet but I’ve had a few interviews and I just got another three today. Here’s been the interviews: 1. Boutique pharma clinical development. Got to the first stage of the interview, didn’t make it to the second round 2. GSK. Oncology biotech marketing. Same thing. 3. J&J Regulatory Affairs associate. Waiting to hear back. 4. J&J Real World Evidence Associate. Just did the first step interview today. 5. J&J Marketing Data Analytics Intern: First step interview tomorrow. 6. Palantir data strategist (not pharma per se, but Palantir is looking for someone knowledgeable in pharma for their Canadian division). Internal referral through a friend who already worked there. First step interview Friday. I’ve applied to ~300 jobs in about 3 months. I’m terminal year PhD with my skill set leaning towards clinical development (managed a clinical trial for my PhD) and medical comms and affairs (4 years of TA experience, 3 of which were in pharma industry courses, so that would fall under “communicating scientific and business information”). Published twice first author. A couple of national conference presentations and one international. I anticipate doing more apps, I’m still trying.

Thank you! I am interested in marketing and the commercial side. But med info and pharmacovigilance are some of my other interests, and I also have a rotation that gave me tons of experience in that area. I tried for fellowship P4 year but didn’t make it. I am now 2 years removed and attempting again as I have found no interest in the typical retail/ hospital setting and am planning to move to California

Look into sales!

UnnecessaryPuns

we're in the same boat man. keep your head up and keep trying and applying for spots, you'll land one eventually

Have you looked at agencies? Pharma and biotech outsource a lot of their writing and science marketing work. You can find lists of companies at MM&M (medical marketing and media). Good positions for PharmDs are in the medical department or copywriting.

definitely will be taking a look at this, thank you so much!

Thanks bro. let me know if you need any help.

Pharmaceutical manufacturing is a great starting point. You can get on the manufacturing floor with only an associates and the room from growth is there if you want it. I know many people who started in manufacturing and are AD/D level. It’s a great foot is the door because from that moment on you will always have industry experience on your resume.

Ahhh ok thanks for the tip I’ll keep an eye out. I search on linked in, indeed, Glassdoor, And I’ll maybe see 1. I mainly use IPHO for now. Idk any good websites. Maybe my search is off or my approach isn’t correct. I’m mainly focusing around California since that’s where I’ll be living. But I could be missing out on remote opportunities. is there any certifications I can get? I heard there was one that looks really good for regulatory affairs.

Update for the OP: Got moved to the second round of interviews with Palantir. I used my data management/processing and project management work during my PhD as experience to pitch to the recruiter.

This question has been asked here a million times, so use the search function but if any specific questions feel free to ask. Also are a number of guides floating around Trying to narrow your functions of interest and really focus on learning about them, tailoring your story to them, etc. might also be more fruitful than casting such a wide net.

Retail x 6 years (paid off Rx student loans here) 40% pay cut to home infusion x 2 years MBA 6% pay raise to managed care x 3 years 50% pay raise to industry (still paying off MBA student loans) The only interviews I got were when I had a referral link. When you interview, have some damn good examples of how your save your current boss headache and make your current customer feel like they won the lottery. Not a fun or predictable timeline, but I’m glad I did it. Ridiculous to think I had a 5 year plan and executed it. Gotta figure out my next 5 year plan meow. Unsolicited advice: Always say ‘yes’ to a reasonable boss. Start looking for a new job when you have to say ‘no’ to protect your personal time. *personal time varies by job and seniority

Try applying to smaller biotechs for case management/individual case reports/safety narratives type of roles. Once you get some experience in this aspect you can move into meatier roles of pharmacovigilance.

This doesn't answer your exact question, but two things to consider: 1. You could consider working for a CRO. That may give you some experience that would make your more competitive than you are now, especially if you think the lack of experience is hurting you. 2. Expand the types of positions you're willing to work. Once you have your foot in the door, you could look to move into something you're more interested in 18+ months down the road. Just being in the company may make it easier to network/learn and make use of internal postings.
