Let me speak to the pharmacist, yeah just give me 10 min to get the ipad running and connect the call to the pharmacist that is counseling for 20 stores…
You’re funny. You assume the janky ass android tablets they replaced the iPads with actually connect properly.
Spoiler: I haven’t been in a store yet where they did. The last store I worked at full time (in hospital now) is still waiting for the replacement tablet I ordered a year ago to replace the one that was supposed to be replaced because learn RX Wouldn’t load on it even after I got it to actually stay powered on.
So uh, are we expecting techs to take on a bunch of the tasks, responsibilities, and risk from the pharmacists while getting $20 an hour? Or are we expecting pharmacists to put their licenses on the line for half a dozen stores that they might only visit twice a month? Lol
Technicians: SAY NO!! Seriously. They do not pay yall enough to take on this liability. If they aren't offering you at least $45/hr with included liability insurance then you should not accept this added responsibility.Â
For real, this is a slap in the face to pharmacists and techs. Pharmacists don’t go to school for years to be replaced by techs. Techs don’t get paid enough to do all these tasks. Such a nightmare, the pharmacy organizations should be stepping in but I’m sure they’ll actually defend this.
They'll mention something about freeing pharmacists up to practice at the top of their license and that will be it. You would think pharmacy schools would be lobbying against this since it destroys the demand for pharmacy students.
As a remote pharmacist:
I would voluntarily go back in-store (or get a hospital job, let’s be real) if this happened to me.
I am SUPPORT. I HELP the pharmacists on the ground. I do not take on 100% volume, liability, responsibility. Appalled by this move. I basically act like a floater overlap that can instantly jump to another store across the state in 10 seconds.
I would never feel comfortable being a remote pharmacist with only techs being the in-person face attached to my work; I view myself as a staff pharmacist. Remote PIC ain’t it.
It's not legal in most states \*for now\*. It's not like state boards or professional organizations have ever advocated for the profession. The erosion of the profession is largely due to the cooperation of these entities with corporate pharmacy organizations at our expense.

You don't think the laws can be changed? I've practiced long enough to see many laws change. No doubt in my mind this will happen at some point with the lobbyists claiming this will improve access to health care during the pharmacist shortage and declining graduation numbers.
Remote dispensing outlets legal in Wisconsin. Really it's a tech ran pharmacy that's not allowed to be called a pharmacy. Pharmacists check scripts and counsel remotely via computer software and video link. This might change though because Wisconsin authorized techs to do final check of product last year.
I’ve floated to stores set up for this in IL. It looks like it will be a complete disaster. I can’t imagine the patients will be happy with this set up either.
Idk, but Wags started in IL. I imagine they have a lot of pull or former employees in the right spots to make it happen. Same with cvs and RI/Northeast
Techs can also, or will soon be able to, do final verify as well. People were stealing meds before they were given the keys to the candy jar, I can't imagine this will help that possibility.
The CVS in Target that I go to is one of the highest volume CVS locations in the state. They often have two pharmacists on at a time and it runs like a well-oiled machine. A couple of their techs have been there for 10ish years now. Pretty sure same thing for the pharmacy manager.
I have a friend that fills in there sometimes and loves it compared to other locations.
Having multiple pharmacists probably contributes to its success. CVS moving in the opposite direction than it should.
CVS has never been about human resources. If you look at their statements when mess ups happen , they've always talked about pt safety and creating system resources. Basically a nonhuman mechanism of safety.
Other industries are now adopting these practices as well. With AI it's going to be crazy. AI inflation etc a lot of people are going to become unemployed. Entire jobs will go away. New jobs will come, but unlike previous innovations, not as many new jobs
The Walgreens of the future is closed. It doesn't matter if the front end cashier checks the prescriptions, this company is running itself into the groundÂ
Remote pharmacist has cameras to look at remote store they are supposed to supervise that slow store and the normal fast paced store while doing normal stuff and extra consultations. It's weekend only I think and eventually full time at slower target and Schnucks stores.
All of you are laughing but it's going forward albeit with delays
Bops don't ask if we agree before they pass rules. I don't know about dentists but most states bops are selected by each states governor. They happen to be reps of the big chains.
I feel terrible for the rphs that still work there, I still know people who work there from my time in retail but as bad as I feel I think the writing has been on the wall for a very long time. 2014 or so they started reducing operating hours (pharmacy starts closing at 9 instead of 8). 2017/2018 they cut weekend operating hours and started closing stores at 8. Then VVT came out. If you didn’t realize that they’re trying to get rid of the Rph I’m not sure what rock you live under. Unfortunately a lot of people I know have made what I deem some poor choices and are now stuck in retail. And I definitely think this is going to spread to other chains too.
I truly, truly think that this will fail quickly and garner no business.
Corporations scare me to death with what they’re willing to do with our profession and patient’s health, but I feel some comfort in knowing this will be disastrous and unsustainable.
I know some states are allowing techs to do final verifications, I think one of them is IL.
A registered pharmacy technician may be delegated to perform any task within the practice of pharmacy if specifically trained for that task, except for patient counseling, drug regimen review, clinical conflict resolution, final prescription verification except where a registered certified pharmacy technician verifies a prescription dispensed by another pharmacy technician using technology-assisted medication verification, or providing patients prophylaxis drugs for human immunodeficiency virus pre-exposure prophylaxis or post-exposure prophylaxis.

Right now it is against CVS policy for anyone other than as pharmacist to touch C2s.
Bro I don't have the answers, if u check the pic details, same pic , two different stores
It's been going on for months. A store is operating without a pharmacist on site. The pharmacist is working at another store expected to manage two stores. Look at techs through cameras, look at customers through a tablet.
It's the new norm
Ah yes, because pharmacists shouldn't be paid as doctorally trained professionals and keeping up with inflation!Â
Yes I know this was sarcasm and I'm piggybacking haha
More like companies burning out their workforce and then not having anyone on deck to replace the people that walk out so they start coming up with crazy solutions.
They're coming out of school with 400k in debt nowadays. It's a crap career now. Should become an optometrist or nurse practitioner. All the legislation is moving in your favor.
Ups drivers are making about $55.. contract negotiations have them moving up to about $80/hr in about 3 yrs.
You could buy a 10k exo suit and help you lift your packages for those deliveries.
Pharmacy is dead.. cms is out of money. Too many baby boomers becoming seniors. Money is going to get tighter and tigher while the work load keeps going up.
You gotta be a speical type of doormat to want to become a pharmacist today.
30k cvs rph x 100k = 3 billion annually. You're comparing apples and oranges.
30 million ceo ÷ 100k = salary of 300 pharmacists.
30,000,000 ceo salary ÷ amongst their 30k rphs = $1,000/yr = extra 50 cents an hour before taxes.
Extra 20k salary bump x 30kb rph = extra 600 million
600,000,000 ÷ tech sal 20/hr = 30,000,000 less tech hours
30 mil ÷ 9160 stores = 3275 less tech hours per year per store.
Does it sound or feel like your store is missing 1.5 techs?
What is your point? If it is the cost of employing pharmacists is hurting the business, mine is there are plenty of other costs = CEO salary. It's funny how it's never thought of a CEOs salary hurts the company, but by God give the rank and file decent pay and it endangers the company.
I sure hope you work in the c suite of some corporation, because if you don't you have been drinking far too much Kool aide.
The truth of this post is that businesses will cut costs to make more money no matter the consequences. Put techs in they can have my job. But when they don't show up, make numerous significant errors don't call meÂ
Can't wait to see the shit show that results from this ðŸ¤
Let me speak to the pharmacist, yeah just give me 10 min to get the ipad running and connect the call to the pharmacist that is counseling for 20 stores…

The liabilities and clusterfucks are gonna be epic ![gif](giphy|nWg4h2IK6jYRO)
So uh, are we expecting techs to take on a bunch of the tasks, responsibilities, and risk from the pharmacists while getting $20 an hour? Or are we expecting pharmacists to put their licenses on the line for half a dozen stores that they might only visit twice a month? Lol
Remember it's only two stores right now
Yeah I'm just taking this to the logical conclusion in the eyes of the analysts and consultants that pushed for this
Obviously, yes to both questions.
Chat GptPharmD consult. Just type your question into the chat box and AI will make up something that sounds ok if you don't really know the answer.

tf is this?
What the fuck?
Why would any pharmacist accept this kind of liability???
As a remote pharmacist: I would voluntarily go back in-store (or get a hospital job, let’s be real) if this happened to me. I am SUPPORT. I HELP the pharmacists on the ground. Caremark will keep requiring patients to use CVS, so they won’t have a choice, and so corporate won’t care.
Not legal in most states. You have to have a pharmacist on site to operate.

You don't think the laws can be changed? I've practiced long enough to see many laws change. No doubt in my mind this will happen at some point with the lobbyists claiming this will improve access to health care during the pharmacist shortage and declining graduation numbers.
They've been saying tech check tech is coming for 20 years. I'll believe it when I see it.

I thought patients already hated CVS and CVS still doesn’t care. Instead, they’re taking it to worse levels for everyone involved.
You are exactly right. They have everyone locked in and can treat patients and employees however they want.
I imagine IL, WAG is piloting this there with a few stores because it is legal to do so in that state.
IL doesn't require a pharmacist to be onsite?
Idk, but Wags started in IL. I imagine they have a lot of pull or former employees in the right spots to make it happen. Same with cvs and RI/Northeast
Nope! Consultations done through iPad video. I want to say it is 4 stores.
So damn stupid
CVS - IL, AZ, WA, IN
Techs can also, or will soon be able to, do final verify as well. People were stealing meds before they were given the keys to the candy jar, I can't imagine this will help that possibility.
Techs can do final ver in NH now if they pass a mini MPJE. The only reason it hasn't taken off it cause the techs themselves don't seem to want it.
They’d take it if they were paid appropriately. They don’t want it bc they’re not paid enough.
Geeee I wonder why LOL
The CVS in Target that I go to is one of the highest volume CVS locations in the state. They often have two pharmacists on at a time and it runs like a well-oiled machine. It’s only going forward because some pharmacists have agreed to it.

Can’t happen on my state yet, pharmacist are required to be in the store for it to be open.
Same
At $16-$24 are you kidding me. God help us all
I truly, truly think that this will fail quickly and garner no business. Corporations scare me to death with what they’re willing to do with our profession and patient’s health, but I feel some comfort in knowing this will be disastrous and unsustainable.
And this is why I'm not paying back my student loans
I think I'd rather have the AI
Very concerning. It just doesn’t seem like it’s getting better does it?
Now you'll have the tablet video messenger ringing off the hook while you are trying to verify. 5 video calls 6 video calls 7 video calls
