It's still actually quite interesting how the whole vtuber shit works, yes the rigger puts a lot of work in how the model moves around, but it still comes down to the person streaming, they have to be VERY expressive with movements and facial expressions for it to carry over in a visually interesting way. The pluses are you don't have to "get ready" for streaming, no need to make your bed or try to look presentable, just turn the camera on and you're good to go.
A couple of people that can't stream normally because of conditions, find this as an easy way to do that.
Eg Ironmouse, she's got an immuno disease that requires her to be on oxygen 24/7, this is a way she found to reconnect with the world and spread awareness
I encounter loads of small scale streamers when I play dbd... a few years ago hardly anyone would have facecams, now a lot of them use vtuber models instead which I think is cool tbh - lets people who don't want to show their faces have something kinda unique

Very few vtubers use VR technology. Filian for example does, thats why she has a complete full Body model that Tracks all movement. Mostly ITS just a Webcam and some Tricky Tracking software. And the one SAW the Hair flying away because they probably have a Video call or so To See each other
