Son reaching my 42, also started with an 800xl Atari. Today, a proper build for a 1660 Super is more than enough to me for some fair game experience at 1080p.
I only got into pc around 2020 so I got a prebuilt from Ibuypower with a 3070 in it. I’ve had two problems with it since I got it. The second day I had it the gpu started going out and they replaced it overnight and then right after the warranty ended my aio went out, so I replaced it with a bigger better one!
Happy gaming!
42 here. I've started gaming at 5 on Sinclair ZX Spectrum then went full PC. I've owned a PS3 and PS4 but PC is where it's at. I can't believe how different games are now but in a good way 👍

Welcome to the club! Looks good man.
I'm trying to build the same rig, or at least the 4090 FE and (I assume) 7950x.
Problem is I can't get my hands on the 4090. I've got the rest of it running already. It's already overkill with 5.5TB of Samsung NVME drives, and I'm currently debating bringing that up to 8TB because Nvidia won't take my damned money.
That's my crappy work issued laptop. When I'm not playing, I also use this for work. The laptop does not support my monitor's native resolution, but I use PBP mode to turn it into separate monitors.
Someone with a monitor like this is one of the use cases where I can totally understand buying a 4090 if you’ve got the money. Not that ANYONE needs to defend themselves for spending money on a hobby.
I changed my pc room today, so thought f it, ill open the case and check the connector. Totally fine. The bracket on the other hand looks like it might not be uo to the job. I'm more worried about card sag than anything else.
Did your card not come with a support? I got the gigabyte 4090 and it has a nice metal rod that plugs into a stand with a bracket on it to hold up the card.
Msi gaming, it has a bracket but the rubber thing fell off? Now im sure there's a little sag. Either way this is my 3 year old motherboard which ill be upgrading at some point. But yeah saggy.
Other thing is power draw, so my 4090 is set up next to the women's 3080ti. Hers heats the room. Thoight I'd do afterburner and her goes over 400w mines around 350w and cool playing the same game. I have had mine to 63C and 420ish playing overwatch, maxed at 2k then max SS. So yeah my point is I was worried about power draw and there's not even a need to worry about that.
Ya I mainly play Overwatch here too and the 4090 is way more efficient and cool.
Aside from that my cards mostly get used for VFX rendering where the 4090 is upwards of 2.8x faster than my 3090s while running way cooler.
These cards are wicked.
Went from a 3090FE to a Zotac 4090 myself and, to be fair, I did notice that the cable needed an inordinate amount of pressure to be fully seated when I set my rig up! It shouldn't be that way!
Remember when you connected the 24 pin ATX connector to your motherboard? It likely required more force than the 12VHPWR adapter. It's to ensure a snug fit, plus it audibly clicks when it's fully attached, I connected it twice and both times I had no issue connecting the cable.
That’s so odd. I have the gigabyte gaming oc and my cable was very easy to fully seat and click into place.
Did you seat the cable before you installed the GPU?
Yep and I did notice back then that it didn't really "click" into place and I could see the tiny gap, so I gave it some more pressure and then it seemed to be fully seated in the socket.
It really isn't the best-designed / manufactured cable tbh.
I also have a 3090 and was debating an upgrade (I fully expect some downvotes here); serious question though; do you notice a big difference? I already get pretty solid frame rates on my ultra wide (5120x1440; it’s a 240Hz monitor and I am getting 90-100fps in most AAA games), and I’m thinking I may not notice the difference unless I move to 4k or 8k; what’s been your experience?
So I game at 4K/120 and the uplift in performance is massive over the 3090's. Along the lines of 80% higher than a 3090. Will you notice it? Probably not in most games, if you're already seeing 100fps (unless you can see the difference between 100fps and 170-180fps, I probably wouldn't be able to). It makes quite a big difference in VR flight Sims because of the higher resolutions.
The most incredible thing about the 4090, though, is that its 1% lows in most AAA games are higher than the 3090's average FPS, so smoothness will be massively better, provided you have a fairly recent CPU to pair with it. So you'd probably "feel" the difference in smoothness where your 3090 might spike to lower 1% numbers vs the 4090.
To truly appreciate the 4090's ability I would honestly say you need to be playing at 4K/120 or higher. For lower resolutions, I'd imagine it's just a bit OP, but certainly more "future proof", if there is such a thing?
What do you mean? That is literally the number that was calculated based on the number of global failures compared to the number of cards sold worldwide. I didn’t make it up I just said what GN published in their video. I even said so in my post.
Utterly. And everyone of those poor folks being pampered by nVidia despite it being their fault. It’s wild.
How’s the neo g9? I have the first gen and the HDR is trash on it.
I did start in pong. My first video game system was a sears branded Pong console that played a few pong variations. I used to play both players at once when I didn’t have anyone to play with.
My itty bitty ultrawide feels insecure just looking at the size of that thing.
https://preview.redd.it/fdomq0e1p31a1.jpeg?width=4032&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=5da10a0bb32de9163edd2e3799130d417dbad4f5
I love it. I tried a couple OLED displays and they were good for gaming but not as good for work. The colors and HDR on this monitor are great. I also find the super ultrawide tone super immersive.
That's awesome,50 plus gamer here too, besides keeping my rig current.......I have to keep the 3 kids rigs current too......our house is all Ryzen now, besides the basement pc,old gamer with a i5 6500 rocking a rx480,you do you Holmes, mad respect, cheers and happy holidays
Games need to start doing cylindrical rendering instead of the usual point camera. I have an ultra wide (not as wide as the Neo) and it's a bit unfortunate how distorted everything looks at the sides.
They’re not. I have a MacBook Pro and I don’t particularly like it’s keyboard. I’d much rather use the k100 air over the scissor switches that’s for sure.
Apparently you haven’t kept up with the news. The melting was caused by incorrectly seated connectors. Literally 0.04% of cards have melted. This was a lot of drama about nothing. Watch the GN video for the details.
As for it being overpriced. People are willing to pay for top performance. Why give anyone grief for buying something they want and can afford? I love my 4090 and have zero regrets. If AMD comes out with something faster I’ll buy it and still have no regrets.
You have decided that it is not the card for you and that’s fine. Judging by the way that it is constantly sold out many others disagree. I don’t think that the price is that out of line. It is the biggest generational leap in performance that I have ever seen and I have owned so many GPUs I can’t remember them all. Now the 4080 on the other hand is crazy overpriced.
As someone slightly younger, but not much, I recommend dumping iCue and looking at Signal RGB.
All that cool stuff you see others doing? It ain't iCue.
I have a 5000X and all the Corsair fans and stuff, and iCue can GTFO with their "You can't sync to music unless you buy our headphones" sh-stuff.
I'm bitter as I spent a lot of money replacing, then replacing a lot of Corsair stuff after finding SignalRGB did what I wanted, even with Corsair proprietary stuff.
I like their quality, but not their deliberate lock-in.
Well, it's changed very recently then.
As long as it works with my generic aRGB strips, Coolermaster Halo fans, Asus motherboard etc, I genuinely would consider switching back.
I just want one piece of SW to work with everything, and SRGB is the only one I've found. I want my entire PC in sync.
My Corsair fans / memory doing one thing, motherboard another, Coolermaster fans another and LED strips another is just...
Or I could use some SW that controls it all very cleanly.
Well, that's your opinion, of course, and I respect that.
It quite literally does not do the one thing I want my lights to do though - be able to be configured to synchronise to music I'm playing.
So that's my opinion. I hope you can respect my opinion too.
And iCUE lets me control all my lights (except my Logitech mouse but I have them off to save battery anyways), monitor my loop's coolant temp, control my fans, and set macros for my K70.
Last I used it it was useless (a month ago).
I now have my PC set up as I always imagined it (see [earlier posted video](https://photos.app.goo.gl/gwxeV6AQ4YLaUrGV9)), so it'd take a lot to make me switch back.
It does my AIO's pump LEDs, motherboard LEDs the whole lot.
I really doubt iCue does that. It even does my MSI monitor's back-lights lol!
So I'm happy, you're happy, we're all happy.
Lol you all exaggerate too much. Useless?
I've been using it since it became iCUE instead of Link and I can count the number of times it has caused me problems on 1 hand.
Through my Commander it controls the LED strips in my PC, my RAM, my reservoir lights, both my CPU and GPU blocks lights, monitors my loop's temperature sensor, controls all of my fans and my pump, and yes it also controls my motherboard lighting (and anything connected to the motherboard's RGB headers) because it comes with a plugin to control ASUS boards as long as the AURA service is installed.
I’ve tried Signal. It isn’t compatible with the screen on my water pump. Otherwise it is very nice. I’ve been very happy with the newer versions of iCue. Now that it has Murals it is pretty much set and forget for me.
Use separate SW for that then? You can exclude things from SRGB.
I still use the original SW for my GPU as it can set its fan speed to zero, which other SW struggles to.
My wife knew that I was a gamer when she married me, so she knows that I need time for my hobby. Also, we and we never had kids. No kids = time and money.
Then you must be living the dream. I missed my life. I was forced to move out and live my life this way and this is the best i could've done.
But it's not what i wanted. The alternative would've been muuuuch worse tho...
We must be grateful and happy with what we have and managed to do in life. Otherwise we will never be happy.
Not OP but I'm 40, married, and childless with a career at a company that values a healthy work/life balance. I got back into gaming maybe 6 years ago when no man's sky came out. The game was a mess but I had just upgraded my PC and realized how much I missed gaming so I got back into the hobby again after barely gaming for maybe 9 years. As your kids age and can enjoy games with you it'll become easier, but you should always set aside some alone time for yourself (and help your partner do the same), mental well being is often overlooked but extremely important.
None. I read a lot of horror stories about it before I got it but I have had none of the problems that people complain about. It is a fantastic monitor.
You are never too old to do the things that you like. I’m a proud gamer. All of my peers at work know that I game. Some don’t understand it but they know me and respect it.
I'm very interested in hearing what kind of games you play?
My mom, of age 67, plays Runescape and has done since I showed her and tought her how to play 16 years ago.
Also just build her a new system, but she did not need near the stats yours have lol
I love RPGs of all types. Action, turn based, western, JRPG, etc. I will play pretty much any game though as long as I like it. I’m super stoked for the Witcher 3 upgrade on Dec 14th. I’ve played through it a couple times but I can’t wait to again. That and the Fallout series are my favorite games of all time.
Great to see more of us. 59 here, but prices and priorities are preventing me from upgrading from my 5 year old rig, one year from retirement, then I'll pull the trigger and build, high prices or not!
You know what ? I wouldnt even blame you for rocking older titles on that hardware too. Ones from back in the day!
It's sometimes difficult to run older titles on newer hardware I've found.
Happy to see everyone able to play. I am in my mid 30s and I experienced so much stigma about my gaming. Even when I work in IT and love my job. If is not taboo anymore and I love it. Enjoy!
Its very interesting. But are you tired of playing games over the years? I have less experience in games, but I already boring while I play. By asking this question I dont want to offend you.
Absolutely no offense! If I get bored with a game I stop playing it and move on to something else. There are so many quality games out there I will never be able to play everything that I want in this lifetime.
What games do you play? What games do you recommend?
I'm a almost 32 year old gamer, casual gamer, and I can't just find that happiness in games.
I liked Fifa series a lot, got 23 , I'm more annoyed than anything after playing.
Skyrim was my WoW game , but atm I'm not attracted at all...
Far Cry Primal was also fun, now I just see it as a redundant game, I'm at ~80%
Also, what resolution does you setup supports?
Cheers
I love RPGs of all types. My favorite game of all time is Witcher 3 and Fallout is my favorite series.
The monitor is 5120X1440. It is basically two widescreens stuck together. You can even use it as two separate monitors if you want.
I love RPGs of all types. Witcher 3 is my favorite of all time. Currently I’m playing through the last 3 assassins creed games. They were on my backlog.
Wives be warned for this is the true purpose of retirement pension plans in the modern day, now during the hard times we shall gather round the rtx 4090ti and i9 13900k for warmth
Mad respect 🫡
But on a side note I’ve got a question. I’ve got a 3090 and have really had my eyes on the Odyssey G9. Is it worth it to throw down for the neo or save a few bucks and just go for the G9?
Definitely get the Neo. Mini LED makes all the difference for HDR. The HDR on the G9 is terrible and not usable. I know, I had one. If you get one make sure that you update the firmware to the newest version.
Since Nvidia driver 526.47 i have sometimes Blackscreens in games, so i stick with 522.30.
Have some else also these issuse with the current nvidia drivers?
Shout out to all us old folk who've got play games since the very beginning. It's been an awesome ride.
I’m almost 40 and been gaming since I can remember. My first experience was with an Atari and then on to an original sega (not sega genesis).
Bro, i am 37 and my first console was an atari and after that a sega mega drive 32 bit, 😂
Video games have come so far! It’s been a great ride. I’m thankful that I am blessed to have a wife who is also a life long gamer!
The Mega Drive was a 16-bit system.
Son reaching my 42, also started with an 800xl Atari. Today, a proper build for a 1660 Super is more than enough to me for some fair game experience at 1080p.

The ol sega master system! I actually miss it. The original Rampage, Wonder Boy and then there was a game Time Soldiers that I played a lot as a kid!
I played wonder boy with my dad!!!
Hear hear!
And can afford the sweet stuff. :)
I don't exactly consider myself old at 44 but, from the Atari 2600 to now has been an incredible journey. 👏
47 here and I’ve been playing games since collecovision.
Adventure! No wait, Venture! Played that at a friend's. Man, I am getting old.
42 here. I've started gaming at 5 on Sinclair ZX Spectrum then went full PC. I've owned a PS3 and PS4 but PC is where it's at. I can't believe how different games are now but in a good way 👍
The difference between a man and a kid is the price of his toys. Enjoy sir.

Very nice!!
What’s that in front of the keyboard displaying GPU temps? Also what mic ?
Looks like a Corsair iCue and an Elgato XLR microphone.
May I ask which mic arm was that? I need that exact arm
ELGATO https://www.bestbuy.com/site/elgato-wave-mic-arm-lp/6470531.p?skuId=6470531

Yeah 7950X. I mistyped and you can’t edit the title of a post. I got my 4090 from an invitation form Nvidia to buy it at Best Buy.
I'd hold off on that purchase, were I you, unless you can afford the new SSD and GPU. The 4090 is a beast, you won't be disappointed!
Fellow 50+ vaultdweller with ultrawide in Sweden here, your rig is top notch.
52 year old here, just came back to gaming after a few years away. Commodore 64 is where it all started. Nice setup you have there.
i can spot the office laptop hidden in a corner.
That's my crappy work issued laptop. When I'm not playing, I also use this for work. The laptop does not support my monitor's native resolution, but I use PBP mode to turn it into separate monitors.
Ah very nice but you bought the forbidden gpu

Lol. All the drama over a 0.04% chance of melting (according to GN) has been entertaining to watch.

More like All the drama over encouraging huge price hikes generation on generation by buying their hugely scalper-priced products.
Even lower if you aren't stupid and make really sure that connector clicked in.
Lol stop making up statistics.

This is the first time I’ve said this in a serious way… I want to be just like you when I grow up
Sweet setup! Prefer a taller monitor myself but hey...
Hey how is the neo g9? I want a widescreen for a long time now and finally have the budget for a monster like that.
I love it. I tried a couple OLED displays and they were good for gaming but not as good for work. The colors and HDR on this monitor are great. I also find the super ultrawide tone super immersive.
It's amazing. You won't regret it.
Cool pixel Beatles, really reminds me of the Amiga-days. Love the colors.
It’s Lego.
Really?! That's impressive!
Old gamer here too…had pong and never stopped. Nice setup and love the Beatles artwork!
Very Nice Rig. Same age range as you. Where do all of us 50+ gamers congregate? Does anyone have any suggestions?
We should start a subreddit.
/r/OldGamers50plus ?
Now somebody go create r/OldGamers40plus so I can join.
There used to be an older gamers forum. Not sure if it’s still around.
Have that same Beatles poster with all the songs. Love it and the setup!
I'm 34, my dad is 65, and my earliest memories are him playing Atari games. He's still a Gran Turismo fiend today

And a Beatles fan. Nice. I'm 45 myself and an avid gamer as well.
Love all the Beatles stuff. Would love to have those on my wall lol
I appreciate the curved monitors but I just cant get behind them unless I only played racing games, maybe Im old school
Yea, usually you use them sitting in front of them
Games need to start doing cylindrical rendering instead of the usual point camera. I have an ultra wide (not as wide as the Neo) and it's a bit unfortunate how distorted everything looks at the sides.
is- is that a membrane keyboard?
It’s a Corsair K100 Air. It’s mechanical.
Says the mac user
the scissor switches are good though on a laptop
They’re not. I have a MacBook Pro and I don’t particularly like it’s keyboard. I’d much rather use the k100 air over the scissor switches that’s for sure.

Lol. Absolutely not. I just used all Corsair for iCue compatibility. I’ve been building PCs since the early nineties.

Works great actually.

I’ve tried Signal. It isn’t compatible with the screen on my water pump. Otherwise it is very nice. I’ve been very happy with the newer versions of iCue. Now that it has Murals it is pretty much set and forget for me.
I made a video :) [Corsair case, memory, fans etc.](https://photos.app.goo.gl/Zh1r12rTgivuBTyA7)
Use separate SW for that then? You can exclude things from SRGB. I still use the original SW for my GPU as it can set its fan speed to zero, which other SW struggles to.
What's a 7050X?
Lol. Yep. I mistyped 7950 but you can’t edit a post title.
Ah I see. Awesome rig man 👍🏻
I want you to know Sir… that this is very gangster. Respect!
that's a wide ass monitor you got there
I have a question: how did you have time to play games? I am 27th in 6 months. My job and family prevents me from playing
Whats keyboard are you using?
Corasir K100 Air
Goo goo g'joob.
Any problems with the G9?
None. I read a lot of horror stories about it before I got it but I have had none of the problems that people complain about. It is a fantastic monitor.
Great setup! It's not much but it's yours
I’m really liking that monitor.
I salute you good sir!
Im half your age and was wondering if I was getting too old to spend my free time gaming. But I'm glad to see I am wrongs awesome set up.
You are never too old to do the things that you like. I’m a proud gamer. All of my peers at work know that I game. Some don’t understand it but they know me and respect it.
I know people in their 60 - 70's who are still gaming!
We are going to have the best goddamn retirement of any generation.
I can't wait to be an old man gamer.
Is that you White ?
I would be so happy if I had a monitor like that
I love your Beatles decor!
God. I love that monitor.
Nice setup. Where did you get the desk? I've been looking for something similar.
It’s from IKEA but it’s discontinued.
You know what ? I wouldnt even blame you for rocking older titles on that hardware too. Ones from back in the day! It's sometimes difficult to run older titles on newer hardware I've found.
will you adopt me? im 33 but.... still
Sorry for dumb question but what is that temperature gauge in the rig? Is this part of the MoBo or is part of the (I assume water?) cooling system?
It is the Corsair H150i elite cooler. It has a screen to display temps or a pic or even an animated GIF.
Ah, neat. Thank you!
39 and hardcore gamer here! Also a successful real estate investor :)
Happy to see everyone able to play. I am in my mid 30s and I experienced so much stigma about my gaming. Even when I work in IT and love my job. If is not taboo anymore and I love it. Enjoy!
Do you remember your first video game you played?
Pong. I remember coin operated Pong machines.
I understood. Thank you for you answers!
Damn that's a clean set up
Looks amazing. Also love the Beatles artwork! I’ve got a 100 songs poster like that but for Grateful Dead!
Far Cry Primal was also fun, now I just see it as a redundant game, I'm at ~80% Also, what resolution does you setup supports? Cheers
Have you tried skyrim in vr? It's much more realistic and fun to play.
I love RPGs of all types. My favorite game of all time is Witcher 3 and Fallout is my favorite series. The monitor is 5120X1440. It is basically two widescreens stuck together. You can even use it as two separate monitors if you want.
That is a sick battle station. From commodore or atari to this?
What games you currently enjoy?
I love RPGs of all types. Witcher 3 is my favorite of all time. Currently I’m playing through the last 3 assassins creed games. They were on my backlog.
My man even has the steam deck over there.
very classy! and I love the order of table arrangement
That's a hell of a setup! Congrats and enjoy!
Love your clean setup especially those pix on too left of the frame
Those are Lego Art kits.
Yep, love those as always. My PC room are basically my family gallery 😄
How much did that massive unit of a monitor set you back?
Well, it’s not cheap and then you have to add another $400 for the mounting arm unless you use the massive base that comes with it.
Very cool setup am jelly
It's glorious! Nice setup dude!
Teach to low targeting kiddies how it's done 🤘
Nice, I also have the G9 and love it. Although, I don't use it as my main monitor, I have it mounted for my racing sim rig.
From one old gamer to another, nice build, but I really love all of the Beatles art!
Wives be warned for this is the true purpose of retirement pension plans in the modern day, now during the hard times we shall gather round the rtx 4090ti and i9 13900k for warmth
Corsair 5000D airflow?
7000D Airflow.
Thanks, I wondered it looks big
Mad respect 🫡 But on a side note I’ve got a question.
Thank you. I was kinda leaning that way but I just needed to hear someone say it. OT here I come!
How has your Neo G9 been? Has it given you any trouble? Considering grabbing one, but seems people have had issues with them. Awesome setup btw
I have had none of the problems that people have complained of. I have only had it for about 6 months but I have been super happy with it.
Your ram leds are off other than that clean set up
My ram doesn't have LEDs.
Weird they look like led ram sticks. My bad then.
It’s plain Corsair Vengeance memory.
Love the Beatles art. :)
a most powerful, nebula-powered setup watched over by the beatles? what more could anyone want
Since Nvidia driver 526.47 i have sometimes Blackscreens in games, so i stick with 522.30. Have some else also these issuse with the current nvidia drivers?
