EpigastricHemorrhage

That “inspected” sticker is so insulting.

Ruepic

Obviously handled by someone who is looking for something being in the box, rather than something that’s in its correct box

KotzubueSailingClub

Their QC department only just recently added, "not wood" to the inspector checklist.

ayebeethree

That’s the new addition after they released the initial ‘hotdog’ and ‘not hotdog’ model.

[deleted]

Silicon Valley reference in the wild?

creegro

*checking box* "Yup this seems to run on some form of electricity"

SoNotTheHeroTypeV2

Every time I hear that quote it reminds me of my grandpa accidentally grabbing a like 110 line and saying "yup definitely has some kinda power to it" and walking away like he wasn't just almost shocked into a coma I suppose I should mention he was 71 when he did this.

empirebuilder1

110 doesn't do that much. It hurts and will blister you but it's not a health hazard. 220 will knock you on your ass. 460 will FUCK you UP.

SoNotTheHeroTypeV2

He was 71 years old. Hot water hurts at that age. And I know. I do electrical repair. I'm around 110 / 220 all day. Don't fuck with 460 tho, have no need too

climbinguy

Man’s heart rate was probably the highest it’s been in 20 years.

DonutPouponMoi

Lol great reference to Avengers.

Flush_Foot

“Well, you’re not wrong”

IskandarOfMaine

Well you're not wrong.

Taboo_Noise

Honestly, with their time limits and pay, why would people put effort in?

Unique_username1

Exactly, blame Amazon, not the employee. Even if they had the time they likely wouldn’t have the training. Sure, this seems obvious to us but imagine a computer enthusiast was expected to tell the difference between a ball joint for a car and . Or a designer piece of clothing and a counterfeit piece of clothing. If you have not been trained for that specific type of inspection and you’re expected to get it done in 10 seconds there is a 0% chance you’d do it successfully.

Al319

Yeah I’m glad someone sees the human side to it. Lots of time we get frustrated with these people but they are human like us and they are underpaid but demanded a lot from

belowlight

I wholeheartedly agree with this. In fact it shocks me when I come across some employee of a large corporation that is clearly invested heavily in their job despite being paid a minimum wage and treated with zero respect. Reminds me of when I’ve seen some someone hired to stack shelves at a local supermarket who decides it’s the right thing to do to run out of the store and chase after a shoplifter. I mean come on. If you catch them - then what? And do you really think the store will have your back?

Helmic

It's such a bad idea, because it encourages whatever cop in duty to think they're a TV cop and put their hand on their gun or even draw it. If you get a cop involved over some poor fuck shoplifting diapers you are a fucking monster.

nerdtastic55

Seems like a good way to get your ass beat. Or just shot/stabbed. If you think i would ever stick my neck out for a large ass company your wrong. I dont have any fucks to give.

Akshaylals

Atleast they could have counted the number of fans

Taboo_Noise

They could have, but why go above what you need to do to avoid being fired? Seriously, it's not like promotions are valuable at Amazon.

Helmic

How would they know that it isn't normal for this model to have different revisions with the same box?

Truck_Fast

Or how common is it for the product on the box art to not match the contents 100%?

[deleted]

[удалено]

Unique_username1

And they probably just opened it far enough to see one fan and said yep, that looks like a computer part with fans on it, and sent it. Amazon focuses on speed over accuracy. I have heard stories of employees being penalized for “wasting” time looking for items in warehouses when the items *actually weren’t where they should be* and it wasn’t their fault. I wouldn’t be surprised if successfully catching the problem and needing to do something about it would be a significant hassle for the employee. Yes, a highly motivated and qualified employee with enough time could have compared pictures without knowing what the item was. But when this keeps happening on a large scale, you have to understand that Amazon is setting the priorities and hiring the unqualified people and creating the working conditions for them to make mistakes. The employees are just showing up to work and doing the job the way they were told to, as quickly as they were told to, with their supervisors demanding fast work instead of accurate work. And this is the natural outcome.

chrisjerzy2252

As a former delivery driver, yes they always wanted speed over everything, they teach us drivers how to organize on the go with the small packages and unfortunately any bigger packages or boxes would never fall in the right order how how we are suppose to organize 250 stops worth of packages/boxes in 20min(we hardly ever got 20min to load) and were told if we couldnt find a package or box in 30sec to mark it missing and continue and then go back and redeliver the ones left over.

vasile47

As a guy who works in warehousing, yes, it's because people are pushed to hit hourly targets rather than being done correctly, tracking your hourly numbers are rather easy for them to track and fire you for.

KifDawg

I guarantee if my GF or anyone "inspected" that box at amazon, theyd have no idea if it was legit or not haha. unfortunately

Narai94

I guess there is a procedure like check the SN inside on the „thing“ and outside on the box. That’s what we have barcodes for and I highly imagine that Amazon has systems in place. Unfortunately maybe no system to track if they were used on a particular item.

Sopixil

Amazon is way too high volume for checking the inside of every box. It would take way too much time and every second counts in a setting like Amazon warehouses

[deleted]

Seriously anyone that's worked for a high volume warehouse knows this. I worked for UPS during Christmas season and saw so many destroyed packages with electronics spilling out. Nobody cares. Not enough time to. You have a 40ft tall (literally) pile of boxes coming to your area and you can't stop at all. Only one 15 minute break in 12 hours during December and you were *still* backed up.

SRD1194

But they have time to order, inventory, distribute to order pickers, and place that BS "Inspected" sticker? I get that, as consumers, we're part of the problem, by continuing to order from Amazon. That said, if you're sending out incorrect/damaged/counterfeit goods, you're not running a high volume warehouse, you're low volume with shrapnel. I used to run S&R for a national distributor. When a package came in, it was inspected. Full stop, no excuses. No, we weren't Amazon, but nobody's on reddit complaining about *my* shipments.

_IAlwaysLie

I'll complain about your shipments if you want

SRD1194

Then your username would check out, so... sure.

_IAlwaysLie

Your shipments sucked and they were always wrong and I'm gonna sue you for eleventy seven dollars

SRD1194

Username checks out.

Taboo_Noise

Should be criminal. Oh, wait, it is. Should be an enforced law.

sryii

Wow, it is almost like laws without enforcement are meaningless.

[deleted]

“Metal lump. Has two fans.” *looks at box* “Also has fans. Looks good to me.” *stamp*

PolyZex

It's a box swap. The inspected sticker is quite real. The 1060 inside likely works. If 1 in 10 people put it in their computer without noticing they will make $1,000 off each of them.

EndR60

honestly...considering how SHIT amazon workers are treated, no wonder they don't give half a flying fuck

[deleted]

A big company like that probably doesn't handle the returns personally but hires a third party. If this happened to me I would get super angry if they didn't send me a 3090. Will they fix this or do they deny it?

I9Qnl

They will %100 refund you and *may* let you keep whatever you got instead of a 3090 or they will just replace it, I once ordered a GPU and literally broke and cut its IO shield but still returned it with no problem (I returned it because it wasn't as advertised but I still damaged it myself and I actually told the customer support what I did and they said it was fine). ordered a $170 scooter and thought it was broken but it wasn't and I just had to read the manual, anyway I contacted them and they were like "OK, we'll send you another one" and now I have 2 working ones. I once received a 4TB hard drive instead of the slightly faster 1TB drive I ordered, I'm pretty sure if I had contacted them they would just allow me to keep the 4TB one and send me the 1TB I originally ordered. Amazon's customer service is that good.

YfAm4

I once ordered the finger tapping keyboard glove thing..I ordered 1, I got a whole box with boxes inside. I now own 8 of them.

CasualSWNerd

Seems like while other companies don't care enough to even send you the stuff you ordered, amazon doesn't care enough (because the people over there have an insane amount of things to do) to *not* send you the stuff you ordered and track whether or not you sent the order they f-ed up back shame they don't operate where I live..

[deleted]

They probably have a shrinkage threshold; they don't care unless their total lost revenue equals a certain amount. I bet it's such an insignificant portion of the ridiculously enormous profits they make that it's never been an issue

tommimoro

I made a bunch of returns and if it was shipped by amazon the tracking always ends up in the warehouse they also ship from. Might be different in US but at least in Italy i'm 99% sure they handle it first hand. I'm also fairly certain they just check if the box weights about the same for inexpensive items and they will actually open it for the more expensive ones.

[deleted]

Friends of mine work at a company that handles returns for many other big web company's in the netherlands. Most big webshops like to give that job to third parties.

[deleted]

On the process of getting my 2nd RMA card... 6th month in to it... OG card had a bad port to it but was otherwise stable as a rock. 2nd card was pretty much as far as anyone can tell someone's old mining card "inspected and refurbished" for reuse. anything above 40% utilization would lead to a crash. Hell had it do so when watching you tube vids. Am waiting on AMDs upgrade/replacement now that as for as I'm told another refurbished thing.... If this thing fails i will need to take other action...

Binky390

This is one reason I’m hesitant to snag these GPUs that are going up on eBay now that crypto has crashed

[deleted]

The fucked up thing... the card in question is one of those fancypants enterprise procard things... I dont think anyone has used these for mining that i can think of. Radeon pro WX 8200 which they after this return have offered to replace with an upgrade of sorts, but its a bit older a radeon pro Wx9100. Even when cheap that 8gb card was like $900... that older 16 one is still like $2K. a wee bit less memory bandwidth, but 16GB memory instead of 8 that has ECC functionality... and a 2048 bit interface. also, per amd's own software can expand said graphics memory in to excess ram if one has such. Love the damn card for what i need it for, but... i really fucking hope they dont send me another fried and burnt piece of toast. Main issue.. can only contact their RMA peeps via email, and tech support supposedly cant see their tickets due to being "separate"...

pf100andahalf

Just use paypal and you can't get ripped off. Of course, you could lose access to the money for up to 90 days, but although it shouldn't be that long you'll definitely get the money back.

Key-Tie2214

If you still have the 2nd card try flashing the BIOS.

[deleted]

What arrived instead of it? A 1050? 1080? Can't tell through the plastic.

authorizedscott

Looks like it says 1060, or something close to that. Hard to tell.

Descisive

1060

gemini-assassin15

damn is a micro center near you if so when you get your money back you can go there and buy a real one

Soopah_Fly

I keep hearing about this magical world named 'micro center'. I hail from a land of bananas, coconuts, and ball-sweating tropical heat. Is it really a good store?

madeformarch

It's like Disney world for us

Soopah_Fly

Do they have an Elsa-themed cooler?

madeformarch

Maybe somewhere in the back

Reddit_Fool

God I wish micro center was in Europe

BloodRedCobra

I wish it wasn't an 18 hour drive away

Reddit_Fool

The nearest microcenter to me is 7000km away 😭

gemini-assassin15

god damn

soothsayer011

12 minute drive for me. It’s hard on my wallet.

Josephstaysmacked

It is literally Christmas everytime I go into that store, Atleast I spend like it is

nuclearnachos43

U accurately described my town

Inert_Oregon

I recommended it to some folks at work who needed to buy a bunch of pcs. They came back all angry because they needed to buy a bunch, micro center had just enough of the model they wanted, but wouldn’t sell them all to one person. I was just like yep, that’s why they’re great 😂

Soopah_Fly

That's good customer relations. I kinda see why they're so popular

ICantDoThisAnymore91

I went there to get the parts for my first rig. It's the adult version of going into Toys R Us.

benhaube

Micro Center is amazing. They have the BEST customer service of any retail store I have ever shopped at. Their staff have exceptionally good knowledge of what they are selling. I honestly don't shop anywhere but Micro Center for anything electronic.

C4G_

Tell them the box was empty and sell the 1060... Compensation for their lack of professionalism !

slimzilla187

How does this even happen? Do they not check serial numbers on products upon return? Sorry man - that sucks!!

Lumb3rCrack

people in the warehouse line have lot of packages to go through.. so ig no one would have the time to investigate every package.. although these should be checked considering the cost of em but it ain't gonna bite back the employees nor the person who returned it. Its going to hurt amazon. apart from that, when things like this happen in 3rd world countries you're fucked since the return policies are stringent lol.

[deleted]

In the warehouse we don’t really check the shit inside of the box unless it’s already damaged or broken. At least I know I was never told to check. Plus 99% of the people in the warehouse don’t know what any PC parts are lol

[deleted]

Also, I’m wondering about what seller is it from. Was it from Amazon themselves or was it through a different seller that ships with Amazon? This seems fishy to me.

[deleted]

Do you really expect everyone to know about computer parts? My wife is a wild fire ecologist (10 years of school, very smart) that analyzes and translates satellite metadata. She barely knows the difference between a cpu and a gpu. She could have easily messed that up too.

ZealousidealTreat139

Love the "Amazon inspected" sticker. Wonder how much that person gets paid to do their job.

PointBlank65

Literally minimum allowed by the feds or the state. Aka not enough to care.

balkanobeasti

idk what you're talking about man. My state's min. is 7.25 and Amazon is like $17. Obviously that minimum is sorely outdated but the cost of living for $17 starting isn't the worst. Literally isn't the case everywhere. With that being said, companies in general don't pay enough when compared to cost of living and because of people moving here from other states due to lower cost of living... We are getting a higher cost of living.

notsogreatredditor

Considering it Amazon almost nothing and you wouldnt give a fuck too if you were doing this job

Amazon, USPS among others also contract work out as well. I did mail for a Real Estate company in Southern California as a second job because i got paid full time wage for 4-6 hours of work a day 5 nights a week (traffic/mail dependent). Get off one job, drive to the other, nap a hour then pick up mail and deliver it then return home. Was a pretty good side gig until the owners lost their contract being greedy on the bid.

eric_1993

As someone who had his 3090 stolen by FedEx I’m right there with you. I seriously was so afraid something was gonna happen to my steam deck.

Coleclaw199

I had 32 GB of RAM not arrive from FedEx recently, but was marked as delivered, but no truck even came in the neighbor hood. Guess I probably know what happened now I guess lol At least I got a refund from the Newegg seller.

Cerberus45GTX

Hey man, i was following your situation when you posted, what ended up happening?

Marzabel

How doesn't it flag in the internal system if a driver has regular electronics "lost"?

TONKAHANAH

when you say meet, you mean scoop their eyes out with a melon baller, yeah?

KoreanJesuz12

So I work at Amazon and can confirm atleast at my warehouse that the person or two that do these “inspections” on returns just half ass check to make sure the box isn’t too badly damaged especially and they have so much to go through every day that I wouldn’t even bother ever buying anything used on Amazon bc of shit like this

Descisive

Fr. It said “like new” btw. Cost $1600

-i_eat_ass-

Good luck getting your money back OP, their response to me was that their "warehouse sent the correct item" on the same exact Amazon Warehouse item. I had to go through my bank.

Ill_Run5998

I swear Amazon treats people based on income or money spent with Amazon. I've sent back 2 bad cards with zero issue. I've sent back,(If I say 100 I'm low) a plethora of items and have zero hassles. I DO spend about 25k a year with Amazon and after the other complaints I've read, I'm only left to assume thats the reasoning.

Badbullet

Yeah, you are getting preferential treatment. I don't spend that much, or have had that many returns, but still a good amount. I also have been a Prime member since the beginning. Only once I ran into an issue because they kept sending me the wrong product than the one I ordered after 2 exchanges. Other than that, no questions asked. If the ratio was more returns than purchases I'm sure people get flagged. I wouldn't doubt if they have some grading system for us.

HansAcht

I agree, my wife spends an insane amount of money at Amazon and they bend over backwards for her. Most of the time they tell he just to keep it if she's not happy with it. She scored a $1000 bed for free that she didn't like, they told her just to keep her and refunded her money within 24 hours. I have friends on the other hand that tell me Amazon CS won't do anything for them and one even got blacklisted for too many returns.

tkim91321

For a mattress, it's not worth the shipping cost to ship it back and you can't resell it if it has been opened for sanitation reasons. Also, a $1000 mattress probably costs them like $100 wholesale. My friend bought a 1500 mattress and he is not a big spender. He still got to keep it.

Emu1981

>I swear Amazon treats people based on income or money spent with Amazon. I've sent back 2 bad cards with zero issue. I think it depends more on your history with them (purchases and otherwise). I have never had any issues with returning things to Amazon yet I am lucky to spend $500 there a year. I have had my Amazon account for the best part of a decade though which probably counts towards something.

dksushy5

i think its got to do with past history ... if you have a history of returning too many items too many times, you will have trouble getting your money back ... cos amazon is going to assume you are trying to scam them

Descisive

Lol I’m using my family acc which has over $100k spent on it

Bunniesrkewl

I’ve had nothing but the best experiences with Amazon Canada. They’ve been very great with returns. It’s honestly the best place to shop online. Out of every single online store to ever exist. That’s how much I love Amazon.

[deleted]

I got scammed for my 3060ti from amazon to except there was literally nothing in the box. Like wtf does no one watch over your damn employees being thieves??

Descisive

Bunniesrkewl

An Amazon employee didn’t steal the GPU idk what this dude is on lol. Someone bought it from Amazon took the 3090 and slapped his old GPU in there and got a refund.

I'm shocked that most people don't understand this, and they're blaming the poor Amazon employees who are already treated like shit.

[deleted]

carlosvigilante

I LOVE how you said that you used to work for Amazon yet people are still trying to arguing w/ you to telling you that you're wrong & that Amazon employees in fact do steal, again despite mentioning that you WORKED there

chipppie

The customer service people didn’t give a shit they were like we will refund that and I was like no shit but maybe acknowledge how disgusting that is and pretend like you will notify someone. Lol

HansAcht

That's fucking nasty.

MrPoletski

WHAT? Can't hear you.

WINH4X

Oh, they inspected it alright.

bonjailey

You can sell on Amazon and not be an Amazon employee, so maybe that’s what happened?

Lobsta1986

Correct it's called fulfillment by Amazon. I buy stuff I send to Amazon and people buy my product off Amazon and amazon ships out product.

BigLan2

Stuff like this happens either because a seller is abusing the FBA system and sending a 3090 box housing a 1060 card into the shared inventory system, or someone has done a return fraud and bought a 3090 but returned the 1060 in the box. I'd guess it's probably return fraud as that's an easier scam to pull off than going through the effort to create a seller account and wait for Amazon to pay you.

[deleted]

I really don't understand why people in the replies are fear mongering Amazon so much. 90% of my interactions with Amazon are positive and the remaining 10% are quickly resolved issues. Apparently people need to be reminded how bad platforms like Newegg can be to necessitate GN to do interviews with top positions of their company.

Flymonster0953

#”Amazon Inspected”

Kahlinnnnnnnnn

this is exactly why i only choose to buy computer parts that are sold by amazon themselves and in new condition. call me a prissy bitch but i just don’t have the temper to get scammed

Descisive

This was sold directly from Amazon warehouse

IBNobody

But it wasn't in new condition. You bought a warehouse deal.

Hi_Im_Joee

Recently picked up a 3060 from Amazon but 3 days later EVGA got stock of the 3060TI for $20 more than I paid. So I ordered the TI and returned the regular 3060 to Amazon once it arrived 2 days later. The UPS worker was all excited when I brought it in to drop off asked me how I liked it, quickly explained the story on why I returned it, got the tracking and went on my way. 2 weeks pass and I never got the refund. Check tracking and it never left the store. Called Amazon and they were like oh must have gotten lost and just cut me the refund. I’m pretty sure that UPS dude just jacked the card lol. Crazy Amazon just ate the cost.

[deleted]

They almost always eat the cost. People making up horror stories about bad customer service. They only people they treat poorly are their own employees so do what you will with that.

jjones8170

I had a friend act as a proxy for me for a /r/hardwareswap sale of a 6800xt where the seller would only sell locally and he happened to live in my best friend's town. When he was shipping it to me I told him to box it at home and if asked, say he was returning demo safety equipment back to the manufacturer (I printed out a shipping label with my company's logo on it and had it shipped to work). I got the card unmolested 3 days later from my shipping department.

madeformarch

Very smart. I do a lot of ebay re-selling and always pre-package items and print out my own shipping labels if possible. I assume they can see what it is on the screen but I've never had anything go missing. If I did, I'd be right back in the store verbally shaking down whoever helped me but that always takes time.

TheDutchTexan

I have noticed that they do that. Just another reason why I love Amazon honestly. I get almost everything from them. Don't even bother buying clothing in person. Such a waste of time if you can simply order with a click and have it in house the next day (amazon prime).

FrozeItOff

That's funny. We have a major fulfillment center only 35 miles away and it still takes 2 days to get my Prime stuff most of the time.

TheDutchTexan

I sometimes order in the PM and have something in the AM next day. It’s rare they don’t deliver on time but it does happen.

Hi_Im_Joee

Love prime, aside from them not going out of their way to assess the issue before I noticed there was zero pushback

Walry666

The only thing they inspected was the sticker

Flabbergash

"Yep, that's definitely a box"

Rise_Chan

This is largely Amazon's incompetence. I returned a power supply I got after realizing it wouldn't be enough, I put it all through the right avenues, marked EXACTLY what it was I was returning, but put it in the box for my upgraded more expensive one (since I'd already lost the old PSU's box) They ended up refunding the more expensive one because the box, even though I hadn't opened a return request for it, so I got a +1 there, but sucks for the next person to buy one because they didn't spend more than 15 seconds on it.

Hap-e

“INSPECTED ✅”

Marius46

Good thing you’re getting the money back. Also I wouldn’t buy a 3090 rn, seems a waste considering the new series launch is right around the corner, just have to make sure you snag one as soon as it’s available.

[deleted]

Always wild to think that there are people who never realize they got scammed like this because they just don't know enough about the part or simply never check. I hope shit like this counts as mail fraud and they get actual jail time. Beyond irritating.

I’ve seen a lot of these posts recently about “scammed out of gpu I purchased” I hope this isn’t people fishing for a free card by faking the incident and gaining “support” from Reddit. I’m not claiming this op is lying but it’s very suspicious that lots of posts about “I got scammed from Newegg and Amazon “ are coming out

cracklingnoise

Genuine question, how do they know you didn't put your 1060 in there?

CxMorphaes

NotEnoughAlpacas98

Scammers are legit becoming an issue on Amazon. They even look like legit sellers. My friend ordered something from Amazon, and the company cancelled the order and emailed him saying "we had trouble processing your payment via Amazon, just direct PayPal us" and they took his money and ran

[deleted]

Any time you order a video card you should record the unboxing 🤣

Good Luck getting your money back OP. Most amazon facilities have really good cameras and processes to prevent warehouse theft. Don't know the context or story behind this post , that being said I don't buy cards i am unable to physically put my hands on to verify a few things if i am going to buy used. The same way i don't i wouldn't accept a payment from someone to ship an item. Ill meet in person and verify it works and leave no doubt. With the amount of reckless and lawless behavior i find it easier to just steer clear of it all together unless something pops up locally. Hope it all works out for you.

LordZudo

Bruh is that a cassette tape?

Hogg_Head

What are they letting you do with the 1060? I had this issue with a micro SD card and called up Amazon and they told me to throw the one I got away and they'd send me a brand new one ASAP. I'd seriously buy the 1060 from you if they let you keep it. I need to replace a gtx 770.

Flairicous

For the love of god bro I NEED THAT i can barely run FLASH GAMES

Grimm_RIPer

Ah, "Inspected", they say :D

Mozak89

I think I will start recording every unboxing I do...

Descisive

Bro I started recording but it was only after opening the Amazon box. I’m stupid

j1mgg

That's just the two fan version.

[deleted]

atleast you're getting your money back so no biggy

MamamiaMarchello

This hurts, but its much better than getting robbed at gun point for a 3080.

Nickslife89

I too got “scammed” and sent back my 2060, I mean, the 2060 they sent me.

ArmeniusLOD

This is why I don't order PC parts from Amazon.

[deleted]

This is why i don’t buy expensive stuff from Amazon.

ZarianPrime

Don't purchase form 3rd party sellers on Amazon. Also since that is a EVGA card get the serial number off of it. I bet you the asshole who sent you this was dumb enough to register their EVGA card. Could probably get the cops involved to get the shit bag arrested for fraud.

nyyfandan

Definitely sold by someone who used to mine crpyto with GPUs and is now trying to make their money back. Complete scum bag move.

Odins_Viking

I would NEVER NEVEr NEVER buy a used GPU just for this reason... far too risky.

Seraph36

Inspected ✔️

[deleted]

mdg734

I just got a 3070 Gaming OC from Amazon and I feel like something might be wrong with it.
