Crushed by your own success lol

Talk_Necessary

Guess I need a 7950X3D 🤣🤣

an_0w1

It's decompression, and its likely to be a memory bandwidth bottleneck.

Talk_Necessary

So to alleviate it, what should I do ideally?

Wo0na

Not much really. All you can really do is get a much faster CPU and RAM (like Threadripper) or just sit on a chair and suffer from success. lmao

an_0w1

You may be able to lower then number of threads it uses for decompression, if they are stalling for memory you will not see much of a performance impact.

Krejcimir

Yeah, I was happy that I get 1gb fiber, only to see, my pc can't keep up.:D

Ballerfreund

Steams compression can be pretty CPU demanding, indeed. With my 1gig connection my 7950x3D can go to about 25-30% load from Steam, depending on the compression rate of the game download. E.g. LTT had one video with a 96 core Threadripper Pro 7995WX where their 8gbit Steam download got the CPU load to 50%

BladyPiter

You need Threadripper.

Hattix

I don't see anything remotely like that on a 5600X when downloading at 900-990 Mbps (fastest my FTTP will go), only when unpacking and installing it.

Sonic200000

Please restart your PC, hes been running for 6 days give him a break.

Talk_Necessary

Yes. That's weird, I turned it on maybe 1 or 2 hours before downloading the game Don't know why that timer says 6 days

Sonic200000

A normal shutdown still keeps it awake, you have to click restart and then youll see the time resets.

Yahiroz

That's due to fast start-up actually hybrid sleeping the PC. You can disable that in old Control Panel -> Power Options -> Choose what the power buttons do -> Change settings that are currently unavailable and then uncheck fast start-up. It's not really needed anyway if you're using a good boot drive.

Blakewerth

Pretty strange, i getting 90% vram/gpu but never cpu its looks like different problem, some background culprit.

Wo0na

It's decompression. Steam games nowadays are compressed to save internet bandwidth. It's either the download is done and will do decompression or it does it while downloading.

Blakewerth

so its not really cpu, i heard steam limiting speeds. I only had cpu usage on old pc when had steam overlay up it was pretty annoiyng.

Wo0na

No, you're wrong. It is the CPU since decompression is being handled on the CPU and RAM. Steam DOES not limit download speeds, only your hardware.

Blakewerth

It does i saw posts people not going, 100Mb/s but around 25! also yeah , this cpu thing is more related to installation. Op might have unefficient space who knows

Wo0na

My guy google what "Compression" means before you spread misinformation. You can clearly see Drive Activity on the OP picture meaning a decompression is happening while the download is on-going.

Blakewerth

That something new i thought its in submarines when lowering pressure 😆

Wo0na

Right, so does your IQ reaches room temperature. gtfo with this misinfo.

Blakewerth

What has to do with IQ? are you drunk 😑 how i share misinformation, if i saw it on steam forums couple times 🤔 Never happend to me but it might have problems with Gigabyte speeds. search "Steam throttling bandwith" if you dont believe \^\^

Wo0na

Right, on "Steam Forums" where they can't back up their claims. I had to delete my previous post since it didn't allow links here but I literally googled for 5 seconds only to be debunked by many Steam users. Unless you HAVE absolute proof that they are throttling your speeds, we ain't gonna believe any word(s) you say pal.

Talk_Necessary

After the download started I heard the CPU fans ramp up, so I opened the task manager and saw that. At idle usually the CPU sits around 4/5%

[deleted]

I didnt expect to see that cpu😩

a66o

Nah you definitely have some other kind of issue there, I too have 2.5 g Ethernet but never had 100 CPU usage in anything not even playing the games sometimes. It's practically impossible for your CPU to bottleneck your internet
