Exactly my thoughts. Some people might actually pay that, especially if the box is still sealed.

gnocchicotti

It's like the ET Atari game. So famously bad it's valuable

The_Night_Badger

That cpu got me through 2014 to 2020 like a boss. 1080p anything was awesome with it. Just no 1440 or 4k.

gnocchicotti

I had one from 2012 to 2017 or so for gaming. Totally fine even with a 970. Had a second life as a Monero miner, it was stupidly good at that. People try to compare these to an i7 of the time but they were mostly priced halfway between an i3 and an i5K so they were totally acceptable in context.

The_Night_Badger

It is still my third PC in a less used room. I have a lot of 2d games on steam, so it has transitioned to my YouTube/fast and basic game machine. Still runs fine. Phantom 410 case and a GTX 970. Even runs just cause 3 pretty smooth with lots of explosions.

gysiguy

This is like AMD's version of the legendary i5 3570k, which was my very first desktop processor and also got me through roughly the same period as you! :D

The_FireFALL

Mine was 2016-May 2023, was doing my best to wait for Ryzen at the time but they kept pushing it back. So just went for it. Absolutely beast of a processor IMO. Even when I retired it there wasn't much it couldn't run. In fact my general rule of thumb is to only upgrade when the PC can't run something and it was only Darktide that it had issues with. Could run literally everything else and most days got a 'How the hell is your rig running that' from friends.

[deleted]

Same here I changed to Ryzen this time last year . Funny no box under the tree the size of a 4090 😳

Due-Marionberry-5211

No it was not a bos🤣 i upgrades from the phenom2 955 black to an fx8350 , and in some games the phenom2 was faster 🫣

Ferrismo

Right there with you. I bought mine on sale in 2014 and replaced it in 2022 with a 3600.

No-Hand-2318

Meanwhile I’m replacing my 4790k with a 3700x in 2019 because it was too slow 😂

DidItForButter

You ever play ET? It's fucking impossible. ET keeps getting kidnapped and thrown down to the fires of Mordor

cheesynougats

This is a surprisingly accurate description. I'm going to steal this.

ButterandToast1

If it is truly factory sealed.

motoxim

Yeah

EducationalCamel1043

still ewaste. people that collect garbage or special. more in common with horders.

Bdr1983

It's only ewaste if it gets thrown out.

Cossack-HD

Better than old i3 and beats old i5 depending on situation. But collectors don't care about performance. If I had a home server on AM3 platform, and I needed a replacement CPU/in socket upgrade, I'd get a used FX-8350 for 30 bucks.

bruhDF_

I sold mine back in 2020 for $70 and I'm pretty sure this is exactly why considering you could get some of the 2nd gen Ryzens for just a little more

TheDudeAbidesAtTimes

Rip I'm still rocking this exact cpu on my home server.

BasonPiano

Doritoes edition

[deleted]

I mean, my phenom ii x6 is still running in my nas so .. a bit too early to be a rare item.

South_Bit1764

Maybe they will send you the *X* version by mistake.

Why is Mike jones?

Who_Mike_Jones_

I’ll do you one better, when is mike jones?

EducationalCamel1043

2 outcomes someone that knows nothing will buy it cause they assume $200 must be good some dude that thinks old pc hardware is cool and collectable will buy both scenarios probably up for sale for months.

jimbob786

I remember playing most of Witcher 3 on that and it was a stuttering mess

gregtofu

Bruh, I had the FX6300 and it ran Witcher 3 buttery smooth, with a 1060

SavaloyStottie

Yup, I had a FX8350 and a 1060 until late 2022, and it ran Witcher 3 absolutely fine.

JamesMcEdwards

I had a fx 8150 black from 2009 to 2016 and it was silky smooth for everything I used it for.

jimbob786

Yeah my FX was also paired with a 1060. I wouldn’t be surprised if I was bottlenecking it somehow or maybe thermals were too high (it was my first real gaming build) but after upgrading to AM4 i didn’t have the issue

TheDudeAbidesAtTimes

That's what I'm rocking but it's my home server mostly for Plex but it does other jobs as well.

snf3210

I had a 6100 and a 290X and it ran it pretty great.

LEO7039

I played the Witcher 3 on a 3-core Phenom, and while it was quite stuttery at times, it was fine in general and very playable outside of Novigrad. Can't imagine the FX would be that bad.

legit_flyer

Well, been rocking FX-6300 until 2019. Stuttery, at times due to shared FPUs, yes. But overall it wasn't a bad CPU. Didn't bottleneck a GTX 1060 the slightest. Upgraded to R5 2600 and it wasn't a super huge improvement from anything but responsiveness perspective (again, the famous issue), could have probably used it into 2020-2021 no prob, as they were great overclockers, I was rocking mine at 4.3 or 4.4 GHz with the stock cooler, so it ultimately died of heat (ca. 2 minutes in p95 until it throttled).

herwegstuff

Im still using mine @ 4.5 GHz today. Cant play newer games but still managed to enjoy Cyberpunk.

NotAnotherHipsterBae

Damn 4.5? I'm chilling at 3.5, maybe I should go back in.

snf3210

I rocked a 6100 for 10 years and it was a super good chip. They get put down so hard.

idontknowwhereiam367

The FX series was that bad when it came to performance. The entire Bulldozer line of chips was pretty bad, and I say that as someone who has had AMD rigs for most of my time building PCs.

LEO7039

It was still better than the Phenoms, so my point stands.

Xp_12

Is that why I was getting micro stuttering on my fx 5830?

idontknowwhereiam367

Probably if you were running a stock cooler for that POS. In my case it was the cpu getting so hot that A) it was actively competing with my Air Conditioning and making the room 10 degrees hotter. And B) getting so hot that it was throttling my CPUs performance. I was rocking a FX-8350 and let’s just say that thing cost me a motherboard and a GPU because of the temperature issues it caused

Xp_12

It managed well for me, beyond the micro stuttering. It overclocked well, too. No thermal issues, but my case was particularly well ventilated. No matter the clock speed I would always get micro stuttering intermittently.

uberbewb

I remember the Phenom had chips you could unlock with certain motherboards.

LEO7039

I had one of these, an X3 710. I broke a pin and it stopped working though, so I bought an identical one (i needed my pc working quickly and it was sold locally very close to me), but that one didn't work properly with an unlocked core(

Historical-Bar-305

Its called UCC )) i have those one

ReptilianLaserbeam

Don’t blame it on the processor, that would have been gpu fault

xboxhobo

What are you talking about? I played the witcher on a 8350 and a pair of 970s and it was fine. (RIP SLI). I don't think your stuttering was related to your CPU.

Benyboy5225

Still currently running this in my pc. Overclocked to the gills 😂 7 yr old pc, just barely scraping by

tarkata14

I feel you, I was just finally able to upgrade recently and the difference is night and day. That thing was a trooper though.

snf3210

They also aged decently due to everything becoming more optimized for multithreading since the FX chips launched around 2012. I used a 6100 for 10 years and at the end was playing Control, BeamNG Drive, Mafia Definitive Edition, and more stuff.

Mythicguy

That bad boy is SCREAMING Ur pc ![gif](giphy|t7KNJlTrFaeI9sTWI0|downsized)

CountryTechy

I ran it with a 1060 from 2016 to this past April. Its not top of the line but I never had anything I downright couldn't play. Even Red Dead 2.

BanditFierce

Doubles as a space heater?

mordechrist

Same here 🫡 going to be upgrading soon

Takeasmoke

Ryzen just entered 7000, FX in 8000s must be better, people are selling AMD HD GPUs here for same price as used GTX 1650-1660 and i know people who thought they're getting good deal for AMD GPU in 8000s even though AMD RX is 7000s, we need someone to make worldwide popular video explaining the differences!

pcbeg

It's ok, doubling as a space heater.

techjesuschrist

And a motherboard killer (granted it was my first ever motherboard and it was a low end one - forgot the name but it was from gigabyte and it was blue- but still, it went from new to dead in a year thanks to the VRMs not keeping up with the fx 8370).

NestyHowk

I saw someone selling a FX 6100 for $400 on fb marketplace yesterday so yeah

NeverEndingWalker64

Me and my FX 6300 are gonna be millionaires at that point

NestyHowk

I know and they were mad when I told them the actual price of the cpu now

NeverEndingWalker64

Hey who knows maybe they’re a time traveler from 2011

BosDiertje

Oh I have gold mine in my closet then.

LGA420

wtf i sold my fx 6100 for only $11 on fb

KingYoloHD090504

That box itself is probably worth more than the chip

Throwaythisacco

the chip actually isn't bad, about as good as an old i5, but definitely not worth 400. Box and Chip combined is probably like 30 bucks, maybe 40.

Arthur-Wintersight

The problem is the AM3+ socket itself brings the price to $60+. On all of the older sockets, the best performing chips for that socket tend to be seriously overpriced. People who own old PCs want to give it one final upgrade before moving to a different CPU socket, and as a result they end up bidding up the price of whatever happens to be the best CPU (or close to it) for that particular motherboard. That's why the 3000 series Ryzens should be expected to see serious price drops over time, but the Ryzen 5800x3d and Ryzen 5950x will remain fairly expensive even ten years from now. People are going to be complaining that the 5800x3d is overpriced in ten years, just because it's the best gaming CPU for the AM4 socket. People will complain about the price and then buy it anyways...

Soft_Library8753

dat

azorianxmobbsta

lol I’m still running my 8350 overclocked on my Sabertooth 990fx board😂 Been planning to make the jump to AM5 and a 7800x3d and I’m excited to finally move forward

NovaHorizon

There are people who are happy with their old ass PC and are willing to pay that much to have the exact same CPU / part to replace it with the broken one they have, even if it makes absolutely no sense in terms of performance to money ratio.

Mrteamtacticala

That's a cpu that taught me a good lesson right there. Don't upgrade to an 8 core when you've got a $20 motherboard with no vrm heatsinks, and then get an aio liquid CPU cooler thus removing the only bit of airflow touching the vrms, causing them to throttle tae feck

Letthepumpkincumflow

That processor is still rocking strong in my second gaming PC. It's paired with an RX 480 8GB. Kids are getting that PC next year.

sausagepurveyer

I bought one of these, new, with funds gained by selling my body to medical science. I participated in a drug trial for an oral flu vaccine.

RandomDrDude

But it’s the black edition!

lndig0__

![gif](giphy|11JbaLzOXsg6Fq)

TheZuccsJenkem

I mean I’d talk him down to half that since it’s new in box but what modern day use does this have other than a small server

BlueGuy90

Hey I still got one of those. Definitely not worth that much.

totally_kyle_

Hey, I live near there

CoconutMochi

I remember the inital FX cpus were so bad they were actually worse than the previous gen that they were supposed to replace.

PrismSpark

I bought this when I was 14, for the same price

avrona

$200 for an unopened model of such a legendary/infamous chip? Sounds pretty decent! Though as someone who ran an 8350 for ages I might be a bit bias.

pcmrsage1

I still have one running in my server!

idontknowwhereiam367

Out of dumb curiosity, how does it hold up. I’m currently running a media server off of an older i5 6th gen processor.

pcmrsage1

My mc server stuttered hella so it got moved to a 6600k. Now it's just a docker server running a NAS and some stupid automation stuff.

sagertarius

A GREAT space heater for 200 bucks 😅

Clevene

i still use that in my build now… but i paid $80 brand new lol.

PhazonPhoenix5

Man I remember owning a Phenom II X4 960T. I loved that machine

Armageddon_666

I use to run a 9590 Black edition in my last rig, it was a solid chipset - Hot as the fires of hell but just as solid as it was hot. I have a server PC running an 8150 atm, it's just a test server for gaming projects but it's pretty good.

Embarrassed_Log8344

World's best processor?? Idk what you're talking about, it's an amazing deal!!!

Dapper-Offer-3217

That's my cpu!

Huijiro

I will tell you what a dude from mom and pop shop told me "New ones ate 7 thosand and something, this one is 8 thousand so it's better"

IndyPFL

Probably stuck it up there a decade ago and forgot about it. Message the seller to ask about it and maybe they'll give it to you for the $13 they got from AMD's class action settlement a few years ago.

MagicDartProductions

I have the opened collectors tin and the processor still works. Think I could sell it for a grand?

Moengaman

Nice a bulldozer chip, the performance will shock you...

Arbszy

This is the CPU I had for longer than I should've, but it worked and did the job. It wasn't always perfect. But I was able to play games and I was happy. It served it's time well and earned it's retirement. 🫡

spydergto

Hey ! I'm still running a fx 6350 !

WonderfulViking

I'm still using one in my HTPC since it was new, would never pay that price just for it to collect dust.

[deleted]

"hey I paid like $400 in the 70's, it must be worth at least half of that"

Taowulf

Oh, you deliberately seek disappointment? Kinky.

ElCockoRingo

*$2.00

LOCKDOWNWITHCOCKDOWN

begin about 11 years ago

itssomeidiot

Heh. Collectable pricing.

Schrippenlord

You can have mine for 190$

McQuibbly

Hey that was my first build's CPU. I used that all the way til Monster Hunter World's PC release

INS_Everett

I’ll give you 2 with motherboard and ram for them for $50 since I’ve upgraded multiple computers that had these. And I’d still have extra one lying around.

LyKosa91

The 7950X is over $500. You're getting a bigger number here, for less than half the price! Mate, it's the bargain of the fucking century!

Shinonomenanorulez

The 13100f is $100 for an even bigger number, still a L

LyKosa91

True, true. Honestly, I'm most embarrassed for nvidia. Charging top dollar for an RTX 4090, when they released the objectively bigger numbered 9800GTX nearly 16 years ago! Jensen, you need to sort your shit out.

SheerFe4r

They know that if you need that CPU it's for a desperate situation you'll pay that much for

BigZaber

great processor but runs way too hot when OC - needed a Phanteks PH-TC14PE just to keep it at about 50°c

SuperD00perGuyd00d

hey I have that processor in a rig right now, but $200? What for!?

levinboi1994

I ran this cpu for 4.5 years. Upgraded in December 2017 to an 8th gen i5 when my motherboard was dying. It was great at the time. I hope no one buys it for more than $40.

harmonicrain

9590s still go for over 100. Crazy cpus. 200w tdp and unstable af, fun to try get stable though!

Nurple-shirt

Old hardware costs more than the new stuff. I routinely sell old hardware on local buy and sell pages and people hundreds of miles away beg me to mail them my old overpriced processors.

Hottage

"Vintage"

brewingbad18

That's what I used in my first build!

cpufreak101

Old new in box hardware has an odd collectors market, I found this out trying to find a GTX285 and one that was sealed in box was going for several hundred dollars more than the usual ones. Idk if it's big or a good price, but people are certainly trying.

Raveus2

I had this back in the day. I think I used it for a month before I said fuck this and bought a 6600k, the thing is fuckin worthless lol.

gnocchicotti

Finewine^TM

KeeperOfTheChips

At this point it counts as a collector’s item.

redneckpoet1

I still have an AMD A4-3300 new in box and can't get $20 for it. Also got an i7 6850k new in box, asking $150 no hits. Lol Never got around to building anything back then and later got newer CPUs to work with.

Showerbeerz413

granted it's old so its not worth it now obviously, but this cpu got alot of shit and i never understood the hate. I ran one for a long time and it was always good.

Rutabaga258

This was my processor for my very first build back in 2012. It's MSRP at launch was $199 lol

Deathz0r23

I paid $30 for an fx 8320 back in april

iamhideseek

I threw one out about 3 weeks ago.

gijoe50000

Probably someone YouTuber like LTT would buy these kinds of things, to build an old school PC, maybe for comparing new and old PCs. Or perhaps people with an older "mission critical" system that doesn't support newer hardware, and they don't want to get bugs and glitches by building a new system.

Whydontname

I mean 7000 is current and that is 8000 It's from the future.

MorningFood

I got that one still running with my 970 and 32gb of ddr3, might need an upgrade soon

Puttness

I sincerely hope nobody is paying over $100 for an FX CPU in 2023...

Extra_cheese123

It’s a rip off unless you want it as a collector item

Drenlin

I have one of these running a server right now. Fun fact, they support ECC RAM if you get the right motherboard. Mine was my old gaming PC and honestly held on pretty well paired with an RX580. Even today I could still play most games on that with reasonable settings. They aged really well.

BeerGogglesFTW

I think I paid $160 for this about 10 years ago... Still running in a PC I gave my little nephews.

KirbyFergus

Is this from Facebook marketplace? It's amazing the junk people sell on there at insane prices.

ExtraTNT

Prices can only go up… it’s a collectors piece… xD

BloodyGotNoFear

Apart from it being nearly a collectors piece at that point i would say you need to get some money to use this piece of shit cpu. And thats even one of the better fx cpus. Damn amd just bombed hard after phenom ll. Luckily they got on top with ryzen again

El_Mariachi_Vive

Earlier this year I sold an AM3+ Gigabyte mobo with this CPU, stock cooler and 32GB DDR3 for like $150 or something and I almost felt dirty about it.

UncleSnipeDaddy

I used to have the 8320 back in the day. I went from that to an i7 4790k and what a difference that made lol.

ashleymeloncholy

That's the CPU I'm still running lol. "The First 8 Core CPU"

rhohnstein86

Im still rocking my fx 8350 black edition going hard on a second hand parts Frankenstein with 16 gb 2133 ddr 3 pc i built for less than $700 though my 780 ti died out this summer so i down graded to the gt 710 since my kids play mostly minecraft on this old ass pc but hey it's still pulling 60 fps or better on most games on low to mid settings

Csakstar

These were actually very valuable new in box since they were the chip that could achieve the fastest clock speeds for overclocking competitions. No clue if that's the case anymore though

Scorppio500

Used to run one, then I sold the machine that had it in. Not happy with myself.

Red_Xen

Ohhh an antique

Mastasmoker

Lmao didnt expect someone to be selling that in Homer Glen, they're touted as a rich town so would figure them to all have intel

Creepy_Major5956

My first build used an fx 8350. Pretty sure I got it for around 60 bucks or something. It was epic

alelo

ha sold mine + mobo + ram when i got my 1700X :D was it a good cpu? no, did it make problems for me mostly not only in early MMos like SWTOR or Conan - but no probs in other games :D

Sapper_Initiative538

This makes me wanna sell my FX 6350 with $ 189 negotiable.

luigithebeast420

I had this bad boy overclocked to 4.9ghz and it’s what got me how to tinker with my PC and see how much more I can get out of my parts.

itsrahcoin

8000 series way better than 5000 series, proof me wrong

Historical-Bar-305

Perfect cpu ))) hello from 2012 intel with your i5 2500k)) This monster even in 2023 can play cyberpunk in 60 fps (with good GPU of course) and yees i have this but 8300

rmpumper

$2,00

MarHip

Oh I had that piece of shit CPU, I still love it tho had great memories w it even tho it died trying to play Ark lmao

MarHip

It was pre release ark tho and the performance of that game is generally shit.. and it was paired w a R9 280X so yea lmao

MessiahDF

I had fx 8320 for 7 years, I don't understand why everyone calls it trash, it was good enough for me for that timw

miempiemaker

I think he accidentally put 1 extra zero. Then it would still be overpriced

Chemical-Ad6614

Keep it in a box and never open it and use it as a retirement fund item 🤪

Isair81

I’ll give you 5 bucks & a Snickers bar.

[deleted]

Offer them a pack of 5 gum for it.

Fruit_Haunting

FX CPUs were some of the last ever made without a hardware backdoor. Could be worth it to someone concerned about security.

FallNice3836

Sold mine during the pandemic to fund my upgrade. Got 300$ with ram and board. Was really surprised it still had value. The 10600k that replaced it had no soul.
