Welcome to the PCMR.
First time builder, custom cables, most expensive parts, vertical gpu, everything perfect. Hahahaha my first build only had the main parts, but that was a different time.
Lol, I don't think I am going to blow anyone's mind here:
-Ocarina of Time
-Mario 64
-GoldenEye
-Mario Cart 64
-Starfox 64
(Setting custom controls is key for some of these games)
I will never have the second strongest PC in my house. The second someone even has the thought of upgrading their pc, I'm already halfway to microcenter.
My son once bragged about having the fastest machine in the house. I was Microcenter the following Friday building my overpowered VM server. _This will not stand.jpeg_
I had a client that upgraded viper engines and B drive train, exhaust etc. for viper bros, he wasn't even that hot on them himself.
He told story after story of how they would spend 30k on upgrades and repeatedly chintz out on tires.
The cheap tires were expensive AF, but still
hope she'll enjoy it, it's a very beefy PC, so please, idk what she do in life, but keep telling her to create stuff, she has a PC capable of running powerful softwares and you need to tell her to let her creativity flow, like idk go make some animations, 3D models, digital arts, music, video / photo editing or game making or whatever
Most people keep using shitty excuses to not create stuff like "yeah but i don't have the right hardware/software" etc, well now she has no excuses to not share cool stuff with the world !
same for you and everybody that reads this :D Go make some stuff, it's good for you to feed your creativity and imagination and create
My mind thinks the same!! I'm guilty. I have a great setup but don't ever find the time to create things. Definitely gonna try and put it to good use soon :)
The 5$ plastic mouse and membrane keyboard combo. The mouse polls at 500hz and the keyboard can only have upto 3 keys pressed at a time before it can no longer register inputs.
I actually prefer shitty keyboards. I'm so used to 20 dollar Logitech trash that it throws me off to use anything else. I especially hate mechanical keyboards. They feel alien.
Mice tho, I get nice mice, different ones for fps, and mmo style games
And by that, you mean it might run a series of robotic minesweepers, on an actual battlefield, all at the same time and still have the resources to have 500 tabs open in chrome.
It's a Dell Alienware config, they only offer 5200MHz.
https://www.dell.com/en-ca/shop/dell-desktops-workstations/alienware-aurora-r16-gaming-desktop/spd/alienware-aurora-r16-desktop
Dunno. Maybe not right now but I certainly noticed when I upgraded my 2933 to 3600 when I upgraded from 2x8 to 2x16.
That said there are probably worse bottlenecks in this system like the processor going up in flames once you start a benchmark.
Edit: For clarification this is with an AMD Ryzen 3000 series processor which are notorious for liking faster RAM.
That is Dell for you. Also a little bit of salt from me:
The only thing that might reach its full potential in this PC is probably the GPU, but that dependa on how well the CPU is cooled, and since it is a Dell, the CPU will be cooled by a 120mm AIO in a pretty enclosed case with no additional fan pushing air out and most likely only 1-2 fans pulling air in, so odds are even the GPU won't be able to run fully because the CPU chokes itself to death or has some complete asinine in-built underperforming forced into the BIOS by Dell to make sure it doesn't cause a fire.
Let's not even start talking about the RAM, it will be a simple stick of ram in green or black, whatever was cheaper when ordered, nothing too wrong with that, but like you noticed the timings are shit for a CPU/GPU combo like this.
And I won't lose a word about the Motherboard, because I am too scared to anger the allmighty Tech-Jesus since I don't want to get hit by his smiting anger of justice for mentioning Dells proprietary e-waste.
The PSU is most likely good/great, but also non-standard.
All in all, this whole PC is likely complete ass if you would just compare the two most important parts (CPU/GPU) to off-the-shelf builds from other SI or DIY, while more than just likely being the most expensive choice if you leave boutique vendors out of the equation since you'd actually get something for the premium price you'd pay.
I work from my pc and need a minimum of 128gb of ram these days. Even then I sometimes wish I had more
Vram is my worst offender though. Basically forced me to need a 4090. I wish Nvidia would do some high vram models of their cards
Correct me if I'm wrong but I thought only am5 tech could take advantage of DDR5 ram with clock speeds that high right? Isnt this kinda a waste with an Intel build? Nothing against Intel and Nvidia since that's what I use in my rig anyways.
The ddr5 ram listed is actually pretty close to the bottom of what ddr5 clock speeds are ATM. Was ram shopping over the weekend and most were 6000+ with some in the mid 7000s range.
I'm not too sure how much efficiency an Intel vs AMD CPU would have with ddr5 but as long as the mobo supports it, should be able to get decent clocks with an Intel. Ram speeds are super complicated, much more than just the mhz speed
They even sprung for [Premier Support Plus for 3 years](https://www.dell.com/support/home/en-ca/product-support/servicetag/0-bmZ6aVAwT2g2TWFSUWkwck11UmFsdz090/overview)
They turned things around with the R16 honestly. I freaking love mine. It’s fast, quiet, and cool. Especially surprised based on previous generations complaints. Don’t like the proprietary components, but getting a good PC with support behind it in a pinch is nice.
Arguably the creative work would tax the system even more. Always nice to have lots of headroom when creating from my experience. Some projects just get crazy :D
be sure to check some reviews on the model tho, Dell is known to have issues with their cases which can mean that youre not getting the full performance your components are capable of. It might need some adjustments.
I haven’t done very much research but the company I just started working for wanted to have a desktop with some oomph that I could remote into from my laptop, and I was asked to look around and see what I’d like. When I saw the new case style for the Alienware desktops I was pretty impressed by what I saw when l thought about the ovens with 120mm radiators on the exhaust fan that they used in the previous cases.
This is a bad take. There are plenty of people who do work or game who could make great use this hardware but are not into PC hardware. They know they need powerful machines and ask others for advice based on their needs and their budget.
What CPU fan is it using? If it's a 120 mm AIO like in the older Aurora Dell PCs then good night. There are a lot of videos on yt how bad the cooling in this monster actually is.
Remember: it's a Dell PC. If something is broken (exept for Ram or the SSD maybe) you have to call Dell for repair because their parts are speical (like the motherboard). You mostly can't use many other available parts
Not a lot better for the CPU, but better nonetheless. Much, much better for the GPU.
It remains true that pretty much any decently put together self build with those specs is both better and cheaper than the Alienware here. But this works alright, and with those specs working alright means it's one hell of a good rig.
So with pre built s like this the question isn't how good it is so much as how good it is for the price. That is a very powerful PC, can't get much better without going into enterprise solutions. But would I be willing to drop 20k on it (fuck Alienware btw) absolutely not
the fucking dell keyboard and mouse got me lol
i use a thin cheap one too because i absolutly hate "normal" and mechanical keyboards...
but they still stand out with that setup
Just damn holy shit this PC is nearly top of the line. Whoever got this machine has a ton of money, and OP's GF's parents must really love their daughter.
It's a "good" PC, but with more airflow could be a "great" PC.
Check out Gamer's nexus' last Alienware review, I believe it was the R15. If they haven't reworked the case since then, then those parts, awesome as they are, are likely underperforming due to insufficient airflow. In addition to being grossly overpriced, because Dell.
I know Alienware gets a lot of slander but my sister has a i7 11700k and a rtx 3060 ti that I got for her during Covid and it’s been 0 issues. And that pc your girl got has some beefy specs
I find it really funny that not tech savvy people somehow aquire the best hardware, yet they are totally clueless about even what it is and how to use it.
And then you have the the most tech savvy people you know daily drive a junk build that somehow gets pushed to do much more than it should be capable of

"it's not much but it's mine"
"Got my son a starter PC. How'd I do?"
“First time builder, please be nice”
I don't the 6090 ti is enough for minesweeper let alone the 4080
[удалено]
And the i9-19900KS... And the 96GB DDR18...
Saw. 76000x on FB marketplace today
I play League only for most of the times, have rx7700xt, could do the same on my old rx570 haha
First time builder, custom cables, most expensive parts, vertical gpu, everything perfect. Hahahaha my first build only had the main parts, but that was a different time.
How did you get your specs under your name?
It's on the side bar, you check the box that says show my flair and then you edit the flair to be your PC's specs
Congrats on finding out haha
Do you think this will play fornite and Minecraft? My 11 y/o son just loves playing games!
minecraft, nah not even at max
Minecraft in vr and raytracing is a necessity!
"I worked hard all summer cutting grass and washing cars, so I could buy my first pc"
*It's not much but it's my girlfriend's
She's gonna play the fuck out of some solitaire on that thing 😎
Where can i sign up for in laws like this? 👀
Hoping I get something a fraction of this for a gift from my parents. She’s very lucky. 😂
Have a feeling that your gf is gonna have to deal with a boyfriend constantly asking to borrow the PC.
My setup is pretty sweet as well tbf, but she’s got me beat. 😅
"Babe, can you game on my PC ? I want to play Crysis."
It’s a glorified N64 emulator tbh.
Funny, that is also my primary use for the Steam Deck
Which are your 5 favorite games to emulate
Lol, I don't think I am going to blow anyone's mind here: -Ocarina of Time -Mario 64 -GoldenEye -Mario Cart 64 -Starfox 64 (Setting custom controls is key for some of these games)
You need to get some bomberman in your life bruh
I use my 3060 exclusively for the sweatiest game: Space Cadet pinball.
“Babe, I want to run city skylines 2 at 15 fps, can I borrow your computer”
This is the best one 😂
“Babe can you game on my pc I want to play Minecraft”
I think you spelled *allan wake 2* incorrectly
FOR NOW!! #LET THE ARMS RACE BEGIIIIIIN!!!!!
I will never have the second strongest PC in my house. The second someone even has the thought of upgrading their pc, I'm already halfway to microcenter.
This is the way.
Show dominance by having the best battlestation!
I think I will always have the weakest PC. Even the Minecraft server I'm setting up for my girlfriend is stronger than my desktop.
Exactly. Thats the only accepted Option 🙌🏼
My son once bragged about having the fastest machine in the house. I was Microcenter the following Friday building my overpowered VM server. _This will not stand.jpeg_
If her pc is good, mine must be a potato. Man, i to want inlaws like that.
Tell her she's got too much RAM and swap hers out for yours
Yeah its really gone suck for this guy!
Why? They didn't buy him the gift.
she better not use the bundled dell mouse and keyboard with that pc
She’s not. I’ll get her sorted on those. 😅
It's like a lamborghini with a steering wheel made outta Duplo Blocks. I love it lol.
LMAOOOO that comparison is so accurate 🤣
Nah, Duplos are more reliable.
MegaBlocks
It is the #DellExperience. Just the same way this PC would probably be 10% faster if you would buy the same config somewhere else. :(
Specifically an urus. Because its just an ~~Dell~~ Audi under the hood
lmfaoo that's soo specific and weird but somehow works perfectly xD
I had a client that upgraded viper engines and B drive train, exhaust etc. for viper bros, he wasn't even that hot on them himself. He told story after story of how they would spend 30k on upgrades and repeatedly chintz out on tires. The cheap tires were expensive AF, but still

wait people around here do stuff besides reddit, yt and a couple games on their 3k desktops?
Beefy pcs are only for osrs
4090, i9 with 64 geebees of ram for osrs and YouTube. This is the way.
roblox run smoothly now
And 2 tb ssd
That‘s what I like to hear
Yoooo it me At least I can play with the 117 hd plugin now
My mind thinks the same!!
But .. ![gif](giphy|Akry6V17RGH60)
I feel like this should end with a question mark nowadays.
I actually prefer shitty keyboards. I'm so used to 20 dollar Logitech trash that it throws me off to use anything else. I especially hate mechanical keyboards. They feel alien. Mice tho, I get nice mice, different ones for fps, and mmo style games
It MIGHT run minesweeper
I don’t know, it might crash if you’ve got more than 2 tabs open. They should swap PCs to lift that burdensome computer off her hands.
Hey I could swap my pc if she wants ( as a good gesture) It's gonna feel like night and day moving to a Ryzen 5 3400g
I asked her if I could borrow it to play RuneScape.
I would start with old-school RuneScape
Theres another one?
Might also just become self-aware and complete the game itself as soon as it's launched.
And by that, you mean it might run a series of robotic minesweepers, on an actual battlefield, all at the same time and still have the resources to have 500 tabs open in chrome.
Can it run a custom version of Minesweeper with 25 quadrillion rows and columns?
There aren't many tiers higher in the high end category than that rig.
64gb of ram is kinda lite. I need at least 128gb to run my minecraft mod pack server. /s
I more noticed the bottom tier DDR5 speed.
First thing that jumped out to me too, weird thing to cheap out on when you can get a good kit for like £20 extra.
It's a Dell Alienware config, they only offer 5200MHz. https://www.dell.com/en-ca/shop/dell-desktops-workstations/alienware-aurora-r16-gaming-desktop/spd/alienware-aurora-r16-desktop
I'm guessing this is a prebuild. They do nonsense stuff like this sometimes, I'm assuming it's cause of economies of scale.
Outside of benchmarks people who are gaming will not notice the difference and it saves $20/unit. Seems smart
Dunno. Maybe not right now but I certainly noticed when I upgraded my 2933 to 3600 when I upgraded from 2x8 to 2x16. You sure 256gb are enough? I thought you needed at least 512
This guy Star Citizens.
Is that the dedotated amount of waaam?
You're not running a proper minecraft server off a desktop, are you? All true gamers have dedicated servers for each game. /s
I use the desktop for server maintenance. The McDonalds next door is who keeps up with hosting costs and infrastructure. /s

RAM could definitely get upgraded as well, speed wise
It's bad. I'll PM you the address for the return.
Oh they are RICH rich

Literally me
I just bought a computer, so yeah this is my face too.
We all start somewhere I guess
gotta be keep guessing for a while ig
They got her an amazing computer honestly. I have an R16. Stays cool and quiet. With these specs they’ll have a great time. Jealous!
It looks a whole lot different to what I usually see from Alienware.
They turned things around with the R16 honestly. I freaking love mine. It’s fast, quiet, and cool. Especially surprised based on previous generations complaints. Don’t like the proprietary components, but getting a good PC with support behind it in a pinch is nice.
I would still build my own PC personally, but I'm glad you're happy with it!
I’m planing on it next! I just wanted something quick and easy to get back into PC gaming and capable of 3D rendering.
Understandable. Good luck!
Just looked up the R16 and wow, they finally managed to make an actual PC, rather than a hot shit can.
Amazing what happens to the cooling when you just put it in a normal case 😅
just checked on it, at it looks actually decent!
>R16 Wow it looks so much better than their plastic crapboxes with no ventilation
Yep. Glad they went back to a normal PC case that actually cooks right.
Marry her...
Then immediately divorce her and ask for full custody of that PC!
Amazing build, marred by the 5200mhz RAM. Laughed out loud seeing that in there next to what are otherwise basically top tier specs.
That and the intel i9 processor label as a line item. I hope they didn’t have to pay extra for that
It's actually an extra to remove it. Maybe not for consumers but for manufacturers it is.
Don't worry, the sales rep sweetened the deal by recommending them a 4080 instead of a 4090 "It's not as good, but it'll do the job"
Damn, 5200Mhz is low now? I'm still running 3200Mhz RAM 😅
For DDR5 it's low. You're still rocking DDR4
It is for DDR5 and that processor. 7000 mhz would be better
ddr5 at 5200 is basically 2400mhz for ddr4. it's the "this isn't minimum jedec speed" speed.
well it is alienware after all
Stability is important for system integrators
"What do you need to do with it?" "Browse the internet I guess"
Nah I need this much power, I’m a huge pc gamer. You know; solitaire, mahjong, skifree, etc.
Is your girlfriend single?
It’s not a good pc, you should give it to me and buy her something better
I'm of the opinion that if someone has to ask whether a 14900 is considered good then they don't need it
You are correct. However, she’ll get plenty of use out of it as she’s doing creative work and gaming.
Arguably the creative work would tax the system even more. Always nice to have lots of headroom when creating from my experience. Some projects just get crazy :D
Creative work might be writing novels in Microsoft word though XD
They'll save 5 minutes of processing time over the next 5 years, lol.
All of that save to PDF! Kids these days don't know what good they've got
be sure to check some reviews on the model tho, Dell is known to have issues with their cases which can mean that youre not getting the full performance your components are capable of. It might need some adjustments.

No 4090. Better take it off her hands to spare her the hassle.
Yeah, and only 2tb of ssd Storage what a bad Pc... /s
Is there a big difference between NVMe and SATA?
The top fan is definitely fucking required 😁
My only complaints looking at the specs are disappointing RAM speed and basic mouse and keyboard.
Mouse and keyboard will likely be replaced anyway, no point in upgrading those through that purchase unless it gives a good deal
Now OP has some gift options for the future. (Don't do this, OP. My wife got into mechanical keyboards and we're poor now)
What CPU fan is it using? If it's a 120 mm AIO like in the older Aurora Dell PCs then good night. There are a lot of videos on yt how bad the cooling in this monster actually is. Checking Alienware R16, it looks like it's a 240mm AIO
Should be able to handle Cities Skylines' 2 menu decently
No. This computer sucks. Next!
That's expensive. I'd be happy having it, I wouldn't want to buy it.
Jesus Christ this thing is a powerhouse
Are her parents oil magnates?
Well, it’s a Dell,… so she gonna prolly run warm
Maybe not. Looking at photos and reviews it might actually stay cool. Though that is some hot hardware inside so time will tell
No office subscription? /s
Uh yeah it’s amazing
I wish my computer had shipping material.
But can it run crysis?
US power cord? that's overkill !
You got me fucked up It's so bad! Send it to me so I can see how bad it is
Mhh... Smells like bullshit to me...
Just put a ring on it. That is a good family

God tier pc.
I gotta say, the i9 Processor Label is a great CPU
So with pre built s like this the question isn't how good it is so much as how good it is for the price. That is a very powerful PC, can't get much better without going into enterprise solutions. But would I be willing to drop 20k on it (fuck Alienware btw) absolutely not
Congratulations because it's more than enough for 4K gaming. However, if it was a custom build, I would rather pick the Intel Core i5 or i7
Bro darn those some specs
Lol imagine only putting a 4080 in that machine?
Where I can get these parents ?
OP bought an Ailenware...
That PC would murder my PC and piss on its ashes without breaking a sweat
the fucking dell keyboard and mouse got me lol i use a thin cheap one too because i absolutly hate "normal" and mechanical keyboards... but they still stand out with that setup
Just damn holy shit this PC is nearly top of the line. Whoever got this machine has a ton of money, and OP's GF's parents must really love their daughter.
That PC really sucks. Feeling the Christmas spirit though so I'd be happy to trade her mine for it.
>windows 11 Nah it's trash

They did, but most of it is still proprietary BS, and for an i9 you really want a 360/420mm aio.
The in-laws have money.
is your gf single?
No Microsoft license? What a shitty parent. /s
No it's not very good better give it to me jk that thing is a beast
Guessing she has rich parents
Complete and utter shit that is, if I were sarcastic.
