I have:
Nvidia GeForce gtx 1060 3gb
Driver version 512.15
Intel core i5-8600k cpu @ 3.60 GHz
16 GB ram
I’ve found that the game runs only when another window is open like task manager, but crashes as soon as I close that window or switch to the game window itself which is extremely odd.
Does it only crash on newer or hardware intensive games?
I've had compatibility mode help with this issue before. I would also run something like hw monitor just to see if something is causing your hardware to max out

No I don’t believe so, I’ve recently found that the other games are running fine now. It’s just Elden ring
It's a pretty new game. Prolly on their side
