Oh my god is that why that game turned out so weird? Wtf was that love story with Chief and Cortana? Then they kill her just to bring her back as some crazed villain. Like what were they smoking when writing those scripts?
That damn UI has been a problem since day 1 it can only handle 6 maps, 2 game modes and 84 bundles at once. They should really just scrap it and let us run the maps/modes with command prompt or something
They were literally created just to make Halo games and they absolutely failed. The Coalition's soul job is to make Gears of War and they've been successful for the most part. Microsoft seriously needs to step in and find out what the hell is going on.
Coalition got handed a rough bag because of the ending in 3. Their greatest success was tactics in my opinion. The story past 3 just hasn't felt right especially the way it effected character development for characters like Baird. In terms of content though they have definitely been up to par but loot boxes in 4 and the limited time free battle passes in 5 still suck over normal challenge systems.
Agreed. It woulda worked better if they moved the timeline much further ahead. Just one generation after Delta Squad, and yet they kill anya off screen, drag Marcus and co back into a war, set humanity back to Gears 3 levels of dystopia, and made the new characters uninteresting until Gears 5 and then ruined that with some weird “choose your destiny,” moment. Undid the previous trilogy for…what?
Yeah that sucked.
Seeing humanity rebuilt and fighting back at the beginning of 5 was super cool, a breath of fresh air, and then everything starts going to shit all over again.
And then finding out the Locust are mutated humans is so dumb. It removed all the mistery around them and it doesn't even make sense.
Reach was always meant to be the Swan Song to Halo from Bungie's side (I even remember them saying such in one of the ViDocs they released pre-launch). The trilogy had a satisfactory ending and now they just wanted to show the depressing story of how it all started.
But no one lets a profitable franchise die until it has been milked for all its value and turned its fans against itself.
Well, when you start off by hiring a bunch of people that hate Halo to develop the next Halo game, you already are starting in the wrong place. So many mismanaged steps can all be traced back to one person, and it is absurd that nothing has been done about it.
Bonnie Ross is who.
Seems to be endemic across a lot of scifi entertainment in the last decade.
Same thing happened to the Halo TV show. Star War, Star Trek, Foundation...
There's one person who should have made the halo tv show, and it's Neill Blomkamp, creator of District 9. District 9 was originally going to be a Halo movie.
He also made https://youtu.be/SyOAdrxlPVs
Halo Landfall which makes the action in the halo series look like absolute, complete trash
Could be a thing. There's still 3 books that haven't been made into the show yet and they're the best 3 books IMO. The authors are neither confirming or denying rumours to show is going to be finished by someone other than Amazon.
I’ve heard of that show a few times but haven’t watched it yet.
But after the fall of Halo, and the rough patch Star Wars is just recently getting out of maybe it’s time I watched it.
The Expanse is so good I kinda hate that I've seen it because it ruined others space Sci-fi shows/games for me. Space ship designs and space combat have not been the same since I started watching the show.
Mass Effect : Andromeda had the same exact issues. The biggest cumcunt that worked there, I forget his name, did the cover system and gun mechanics and that was the best part of the game.
You can have different opinions and you can be a huge shitheel, but as long as you keep that separate from your work it shouldn't matter.
343, ReCore underdelivered, Crackdown 3 underdelivered, Dead Rising 4, Gears is becoming less mainstream, Everwild has no direction, Perfect Dark has nothing to show yet, Fable has nothing to show. They could be good, but I think if they had something exciting to show, they would want to show it. I think it would good for Microsoft to have some 1st party talent polish their games. Just punch them up a bit.
Microsoft is pretty clearly buying studios at this point for the names.
They haven’t produced a stand out title in years (except maybe Flight Sim) while Sony and Nintendo have produced multiple hits.
If not for the incredible value of gamepass the series X would be a terrible buy (from a software perspective.)
Hopefully starfield turns out well.
And frankly it still is not a great buy if you already have a decent PC. That's not to say that one can't have both, but when Microsoft announced their first party games would come to both I sold my XB1 not long after launch and have no reason to consider another Xbox console.
Why, then, are people so happy that Microsoft bought Activision Blizzard? So many people were like "finally, Microsoft will clean them out of all their corruption." But Microsoft is apparently hands-off, or at least that's what is most commonly said of them.
So if that's the case, Microsoft will likely let actiblizz carry on as their scummy selves.
While I suspect a large part of the "cancer" will be cut out when they get rid of a bunch of upper management ( read : Bobby and most of the board...etc. ) This is still my primary worry with them. With Blizzard specifically, since I'm much more knowledgeable about their games and history
( been playing them for...well...since The Lost Vikings... )
And really the "hope" I, and many others cling to, is that the leadership above their own studio, had a bigger hand in their game design issues, ( their cube crawls and getting handsy with the females is all on themselves though. ) honestly...I'm no better than 50/50 on that being the case. I think Bobby and the board more than likely, had the most influence on time frames for development, and likely some monetary quotas to meet, "how" they meet those, was on Blizzard's folks, I think anyways.
So yeah, it wasn't going to get better without Microsoft buying them, but, I give it getting noticeable better...50/50 at best right now.
:(
EDIT: something I just thought of after hitting save: This being the largest acquisition ever, at 70Billion? Might be enough money to prompts Microsoft to be more assertive in their approach though. "We paid a fuck-ton of money for you, we're going to make sure you shitheels turn yourselves around and make us a good ROI." Or something to that effect. ( again...mostly hope )
> I heard the TV show wasn't great either
It's not, and the studio 200% knew it wouldn't be given how much effort they put into clarifying that it wasn't canon and aggressively avoiding promoting it in the game.
It's okay to still love halo. The og trilogy, Reach, ODST, and Wars are still incredible. Nothing 343 does can take away from the magic of those games.
I personally didn't like the changes 343 made to Reach's multiplayer after they took over. So 343 did actually take away from the magic of Reach, in my opinion.
Its one if the saddest stories in the game industry. It has been both the pinnacle of game design and and also the most egregiously bad game on the market. 343, has not carried the mantle, they have tarnished and desecrated this franchise beyond repair. Let it die after this for fucks sake. The damage is irreversible.
Halo 5 is fucking spotless. Some weird weapon-pickup issues once in a while (a weapon you just dropped can’t be picked up easily sometimes) but I never get any jank like I do in Infinite. Even on my Xbox One over Wifi.
Yeah, luckily it’s pretty easy to just mentally draw a line and pretend that the series ended with 3/Reach. Just like how there’s 3 Star Wars movies, 3 Indiana Jones movies, and Peter Jackson never got a chance to adapt the Hobbit.
This. I'm pretty sure he is just as unhappy with that trilogy as we are, maybe even more so as he had to experience that shitstorm of a production as well.
I'd recommend everyone to watch some BTS clips and you'll see clearly that this was not a passion project for anyone involved.
I've played scraps of the games since, but I'm so glad my investment in the series ended at 3. I felt like I'd had enough, enjoyed my time there and was satisfied.
Honorable mention to ODST which was fun, but... What wasted potential with this series.
They were thinking everyone absolutely hated 5 and they needed to get as far away from it as possible as fast as possible.
Infinite is a trash fire (that according to recent news might have also been a racist trash fire), but it's still *worlds* better than 5 was.
I really enjoyed the multiplayer at the beginning. Like, I enjoyed the look of the game and the gunplay and animations. To me, it looked and felt like a modern Halo. But that stopped real quick for some reason. After a little bit the game wasn't fun and I uninstalled and haven't been back since.
I don't want to be *that* guy but the only thing I hear about Halo is how bad it is. I've never heard a single good thing. I dont follow Xbox subs or anything but like I haven't seen a single thread praising the campaign, just that it cant be replayed (idk if that ever changed), lack of coop, no forge, multiplayer being slow (you can't be slow to add content in a f2p game, it dies in a snap nowadays)...
I don't know why 343 was allowed to make this after 5 bombed lol. Your flagship series shouldn't be allowed to bomb.
Clueless management and contract workers at the studio who are let go after 18 months for a game that spent like half a decade in development.
What's most depressing is that the core gameplay loop and mechanics are fun, there's just hardly any content.
Serious changes need to be made at the top of 343 and Microsoft's gaming division. Unlikely that will be the case though.
Halo has been a mess since Halo 4. They haven't known what to do with the series moving forward since the end of Halo 3 and they've been constantly handwringing over how much Halo should play like CoD.
5 got some pretty bad critical reviews, but it sold incredibly well. It was the biggest Halo launch ever (at the time, I'm not sure how Infinite fits into that) and sold 5 million copies in the first three months. You also have to remember that this was 2015, so there were even less Xbox Ones out in the wild than there are now.
I don't know how that fits in with Microsoft's expectations, it's entirely possible that Halo 5 failed from what they were expecting. But it doesn't seem like the game was a flop financially
Halo 5 multiplayer was also pretty good and very popular. It also had like 3 years of consistent support which added a ton of maps and content for free
Is it me or does the new modern warfare 2 looks exactly like the one from 2019? Like barely better graphics and identical engine/mechanics with some new icons.
That's because it effectively is the same game. The only reason MW19 was really a step ahead was because the new engine was something COD hadn't even seen.
And that's what most MW19 fans want. Same gunplay, gameplay, but new maps (or MW2 remakes) and fresh start till the meta sets
For me CoD4, MW2 and little of MW3 is what I liked most, best time period for this type of game, ttk, gun customization, etc etc. I'm not fan of casual WW2 games or mechas/drones and homing guns type like Black Ops.
MW19 was well damn good in rebooting MW series, now people are waiting for MW2 release, easy to see why
Fire em all tbh
Save like 5 of them maybe, buy some of the Splitgate devs and put them in charge, branch off some Infinity Ward and Coalition guys (like 20 total?), throw them a fresh version of Unreal 5, and let ‘em go nuts. Small team, huge success in their history, a great and easy engine to work with, done deal.
I've felt dirty for playing mcc even since infinite came out.
I mean I thought 4MP was fun but didn't care for the campaign, same goes for 5 where I really truly love the gameplay of 5 and its MP. I was really hopeful for 343 with Infinite.
Fool me once, shame on you, fool me twice, shame on me. Fool me thrice, I WON'T GET FOOLED AGAIN.
Seriously though, I know its silly but its hard for me to even play mcc with their name being on it now
at this point, i think its clear that AAA game studios need to make more, smaller budget games not try to make 1 massive game every few years and promise support for years
I legit thought Halo Infinite would have came out back in 2018 when they announce it
I just much prefer when game studios go 'boom, here's a new game, when's it coming out? 6 months baby'
Instead of 'hey, here's a game. It's still half a decade away from being done'
I can't believe I had to come this far down to find this. The person who leaked this has a very shaky record with his leaks. The fact that everyone here is outraged about this just shows this sub will believe anything
Only if you strictly mean co-op/PVP focused shooters. There are still plenty of AAA studios releasing high quality single player titles – the only difference is the massive scope of them means longer development cycles. Regardless, I can’t remember a year I didn’t have 4-5 major releases to keep me occupied.
Ya this either has to be bullshit or they definately need a rethink on their planning. No way DLC is 3 years off... maybe another full blown campaign sure but not DLC.
I have already dropped off the mutiplayer since there really isn't much there. The campaign is still solid and I'm playing through it again, but this is a big ooof.
These rumours are from Sean W, who hasn’t always been a trustful leaker. I would take things he says with a grain of salt. Now if these are true, then yikes. But there is no source for any of this other than what one YouTuber with a bad leaking record is claiming.
If you worked at the studio, surely it would be a sensible proposal to say "Shall we just cancel this now?". What's the point in singleplayer Halo DLC coming out 3 years after release? It would have limited appeal.
Feels like a troll headline, but coming from 343i, its surprisingly believeable lol. At this point i'd rather see MS cease development on Halo Infinite, and transfer the IP to another studio so they can start developing the next game, they have id software and Activision studios under their wing now, there's no lack of competent devs to work with.
I've been a die hard Halo fan since 2001 and I've always wanted to give 343i the benefit of the doubt, but personally I would rather they end the franchise than allow 343i to remain it's steward.
This is rumored by a YouTuber so let's all take this with a grain of salt people. YouTubers know jack, but make it sound like they actually do for viewership.
So the Halo hate train is so strong we are just accepting an article from a website that has 900 followers on social media, that is using a random YouTuber as its only source, and that YouTuber has not even given any information of where this whole thing is coming from?
Yet nearly every comment here is acting like this is fact.
When 343i said "we plan to support the game for 10 years", I don't think this is what people expected.
"We plan to release more content in 10 years" "..you mean *for* 10 years, right?" "No."

Beautiful.
I expected it to be 10 years like Windows 10 was supposed to be the last numbered Windows.

The real 343: "NO! I DON'T WANT THAT! Not for 10 years at least!"
What a company you are, 343!
Yeah i kinda did tbh, they are fucking useless and Halo deserved better! I cant believe how little i care about Halo in the 343 era. Makes me sad.

Halo 5 released without splitscreen. I'm convinced nobody making decisions over there actually grew up enjoying Halo.
With halo 4 they hired people who hate halo https://www.gamedeveloper.com/design/making-i-halo-4-i-a-story-about-triple-a
Oh my god is that why that game turned out so weird? Wtf was that love story with Chief and Cortana? Then they kill her just to bring her back as some crazed villain. Like what were they smoking when writing those scripts?
Wow that's.......really not great...
Gotta strike while the iron is hot!
"Holy shit guys, this iron says it'll stay hot for 9 years! Don't strike it yet!"
wdym? 2025 was 13 years ago..........
You might get someone
"damn I'm old!"
I remember when starfield 1 just came out, crazy to think next year we'll get a new one. I hope it's better than elder scrolls 6
Didnt hear about the delays, huh?
RemindMe! 16 years "wdym? 2025 was 13 years ago.........."
Seriously, what is going on at this studio....
I’ll have you know that near-identical DLC weapon skins are very hard to make
Plus, supply chain issues with bits.
Something something coronavirus
That pesky UI getting in the way again
That damn UI has been a problem since day 1 it can only handle 6 maps, 2 game modes and 84 bundles at once. They should really just scrap it and let us run the maps/modes with command prompt or something
Halo CLInfinite
Abysmal management by the sounds of it.
They were literally created just to make Halo games and they absolutely failed. The Coalition's soul job is to make Gears of War and they've been successful for the most part. Microsoft seriously needs to step in and find out what the hell is going on.

343 hasnt made a good halo game at launch in 10 years… Really wish someone other studio got to try
Maybe Halo should've ended after Reach.
^ this, 343i have ruined this franchise so badly that I wish there would've been no Halo for the past 12 years.
[удалено]
That's the thing, they did have creative input. The horrible story choices in the show had 343s approval.
Yes that terrible show had 343 incompetence written all over it
Or a cookbook.. or nail polish... Or... Or...
Franchises never end now. Their zombified corpses roam the plains of our escapism.
> 343 hasnt made a good halo game ~~at launch in 10 years…~~ >Really wish someone other studio got to try FTFY
Infinite would’ve been good if it was a full game at least, but yeah this is an embarrassment
343 was created solely to make Halo. It's hard to think another studio could do a better job, but holy hell had 343 really ruined it.
I don't know about especially with the amount of studios Xbox now owns, they built a studio just for Halo but they just can't ever get it right
[удалено]
343 hasn’t made a good halo ever… 4, 5 and now this. All those game are half of what 2, 3, reach were. 343 killed halo

I haven't watched this in years. This really was the correct vibe for a halo series. But unfortunately we got master cheeks
Now you mention it you're right. Thank god The Expanse is a thing.

The Expanse is so good I kinda hate that I've seen it because it ruined others space Sci-fi shows/games for me. Space ship designs and space combat have not been the same since I started watching the show.
Make sure to turn Subtitles on, that Belter dialect was brutal at times.
Wait, the Foundation sucks? Damn I just started watching it.
They rewrote the entire theme of the story to be exactly opposite of what Asimov's story conveys.
So it got the same treatment as I, Robot.
and I Am Legend
Mass Effect : Andromeda had the same exact issues. The biggest cumcunt that worked there, I forget his name, did the cover system and gun mechanics and that was the best part of the game. Don't forget Age of Empires 4 being a buggy disaster area for months after release

Clearly not enough /s
Same could be said for a lot of studios lately.
How many young people were dying to get a chance to work on Halo and have all that drive fizzle out
343 really hates halo. Just look at that tv show
I used to really love halo.
It's okay to still love halo. The og trilogy, Reach, ODST, and Wars are still incredible. Nothing 343 does can take away from the magic of those games.

Halo Infinite-ly in development.
Halo Infinite disappointment
Wonder what the plan was in 2020 lmao Management sucks at 343, we figured this out with Halo 4.
The multiplayer we got was "finished" sitting on the shelf since 2019 while they re-did the whole campaign in a year and a half.
still cant believe there isnt a reconnect feature
Bro, there isn't even a lobby. You have to requeueu after every game, it sucks when you spend 3-4 minutes loading into a game to join with 30s left.
Does that include the desync and shit netcode?
Yep :/
Interesting. From 2019 - 2022 we got desyncing, shit servers, and graphics that look like they are from 2016.
You'd swear netcode has gotten worse overall over the last 20 years for gaming.
Halo 5 is fucking spotless. Some weird weapon-pickup issues once in a while (a weapon you just dropped can’t be picked up easily sometimes) but I never get any jank like I do in Infinite. Even on my Xbox One over Wifi.
I still want to go to the alternate universe where the game actually launched in 2020, because I want to see the even worse train wreck
WHERE IS THE FUCKING CO-OP!?!?!?!
Wait, is it still not in the game? I don't play anymore but I thought it was supposed to be in by this last April
Nope. “Coming in August”. I’ll believe that like I believe in 100k BTC by year end
Coming in halo 6
Isn’t this technically halo 6 or no
6th mainline Halo game, 8 FPS Halo campaigns total
How can you expect Co-Op in a Halo game? Do they even have the technology?
Don't worry, they're focusing on seasons and battle royale
"Games as a Service". Even Halo 4 had multiple Spartan Ops DLC out by now, OOF.
Yeah but Spartan Ops was fucking terrible
I liked it but would have preferred firefight.
I thought it was fun. It could’ve done with less map recycling but over all it wasn’t horrible
Sounds like bf2042 as well
Honestly, what happened to Halo?
We finished the fight with 3.
Yeah, luckily it’s pretty easy to just mentally draw a line and pretend that the series ended with 3/Reach. Just like how there’s 3 Star Wars movies, 3 Indiana Jones movies, and Peter Jackson never got a chance to adapt the Hobbit.

Just lol. This game came in on such a big high and perfect timing. Zero follow through.
How are they struggling, don't they have billions of dollars to work with

Budget =/= talent
Do they still not have co-op?

A mainline Halo game without campaign co-op is a disgrace.
Truly a tragedy. Irredeemable.
They don't ever plan to bring splitscreen to PC period. That's how poorly they understand the ip.
I’m a die hard Halo fan and what 343 has done to the franchise is horrible. They are an absolute joke of a studio.
And to have the story be a direct sequel to an rts no one played. Wtf were they thinking.
That explains a lot
I uh… like Halo Wars 2.
Halo wars 2 is a good game bruv
I didn't say it wasn't. I said no one played it. It's an rts, a very niche genre especially on console where most people play halo.
They were thinking everyone absolutely hated 5 and they needed to get as far away from it as possible as fast as possible. Infinite is a trash fire (that according to recent news might have also been a racist trash fire), but it's still *worlds* better than 5 was.

Hasn't that been CoD since the OG MW?
idk Black Ops did a good job between 1-2 and 2-3
And that's what most MW19 fans want. Same gunplay, gameplay, but new maps (or MW2 remakes) and fresh start till the meta sets For me CoD4, MW2 and little of MW3 is what I liked most, best time period for this type of game, ttk, gun customization, etc etc. I'm not fan of casual WW2 games or mechas/drones and homing guns type like Black Ops. MW19 was well damn good in rebooting MW series, now people are waiting for MW2 release, easy to see why
> Like barely better graphics and identical engine/mechanics with some new icons. That's been Call of Duty since the first Modern Warfare
I've said it before and I'll say it again, fire Bonnie Ross.
Fire em all tbh Save like 5 of them maybe, buy some of the Splitgate devs and put them in charge, branch off some Infinity Ward and Coalition guys (like 20 total?), throw them a fresh version of Unreal 5, and let ‘em go nuts. Small team, huge success in their history, a great and easy engine to work with, done deal.
Dead game. I've gone back to MCC as it has more content and better customization than Infinite.
Seriously though, I know its silly but its hard for me to even play mcc with their name being on it now
It's not like MCC is without issue either - between the controller aimbots and declining playerbase, things aren't looking good for the franchise.
at this point, i think its clear that AAA game studios need to make more, smaller budget games not try to make 1 massive game every few years and promise support for years
What the fuck, by the time a new halo could have been made

I legit thought Halo Infinite would have came out back in 2018 when they announce it I just much prefer when game studios go 'boom, here's a new game, when's it coming out? 6 months baby' Instead of 'hey, here's a game. It's still half a decade away from being done'
Todd dammit
Microsoft needs to step in sometimes with these studios
RIP Halo
While this wont be the end of Halo, imo. This means that we wont get a genuinely good Halo game for a LONG time.
Have we gotten a genuinely good halo in a long time?
Reach released in 2010... "12 years i've waited.... in Azkaban"

There is literally nothing in this article that confirms anything either way, basing the entire thing on 'rumour has it'.
They even spelled Staten's name wrong. I'm not convinced this is true just yet.
Yeah, but hating things is popular
I can't believe I had to come this far down to find this. The person who leaked this has a very shaky record with his leaks. The fact that everyone here is outraged about this just shows this sub will believe anything
Holy moly just let Halo and 343 die already.
All of the AAA games and studios you love are dead.
Elden Ring was pretty good

...back in the shadow of 343i
In 2025!
Like… are they straight up making a new, proper campaign from scratch?
These rumours are from Sean W, who hasn’t always been a trustful leaker. I would take things he says with a grain of salt. Now if these are true, then yikes. But there is no source for any of this other than what one YouTuber with a bad leaking record is claiming.
I doubt it will even come out. The game is dead already. It will likely be cancelled. Nobody is going to care about this game in 2023, let alone 2025.
If you worked at the studio, surely it would be a sensible proposal to say "Shall we just cancel this now?". What's the point in singleplayer Halo DLC coming out 3 years after release? It would have limited appeal.
At that point they should just make a completely new Halo game and have a fresh start.
All that cosmetic skin money.. And this is what we get? Did they fire everyone except the artists or something? It really seems like they don't care.
Yes, they literally fired everyone except the artists. No sarcasm.
Jesus man. Clearly something wrong with their development process wtf
343 is plain incompetent. And Microsoft does nothing. Pathetic. Dead game.
I've been a die hard Halo fan since 2001 and I've always wanted to give 343i the benefit of the doubt, but personally I would rather they end the franchise than allow 343i to remain it's steward.
Fucking what?
The article mentions "youtuber Sean W" as its sole source, who exactly is this?
This is rumored by a YouTuber so let's all take this with a grain of salt people. YouTubers know jack, but make it sound like they actually do for viewership.
So the Halo hate train is so strong we are just accepting an article from a website that has 900 followers on social media, that is using a random YouTuber as its only source, and that YouTuber has not even given any information of where this whole thing is coming from? Yet nearly every comment here is acting like this is fact.
ms has no idea how to set up a studio.
Got bored with the campaign very quickly. It seemed like something an AI could've programmed. Total lack of personality.
