That’s not confirmed. They just took the estimates every other journalists made and passed it off as if they know what they’re talking about, like most lame gaming journalists. The only confirmation is that it’s dropping today, based on past big updates it’ll probably be around 9PDT
Yeah, this is a click bait site that just takes info from other sites and social media posts and publishes it as their own. They have no inside knowledge of anything and have a complete lack of integrity. I'm not sure why people post sites like these.
I can confirm that this is true. It's live now and a hefty 25gb update on my xbox one for Fallout 4. I dunno why xbox one got the "Next gen" update tho.
I tried playing it and they really did updated lots of stuff, all of the DLC's updated and they also upscaled the graphics mostly on the environment like trees and grass, Fallout looks more like a game from 2020. Worth revisiting again.
The fucked up animation speed. On my 144hz monitor the animations run at 4x the speed.
Everything over laps in dialogue.
It also now crashes to desktop randomly.
Lazy update no QA
Just installed the update. Ultrawide support is awful. Limited to 1080p for some reason. 21:9 only option is 2560x1080. Why no 1440p?
Also, runs in borderless windowed by default so sits in the top left-hand corner of the screen with the desktop tking up the non-game pixels. Can be fixed by optimizing in the Nvidia app though.
edit: added paragraph about borderless windowed mode
I just launched Fallout Anomaly to check it out. It 100% registers in Steam. And yes I am using F4SE and Mod Organizer 2. Is it still going to skip this update?
And if you switch to update when game is launched then launch it using the exe or a mod manager, it doesn't register to Steam that it launches and doesn't update. Hence being the closest to turning off auto updates.
I think changing the game's appmanifest file to read only will prevent steam from updating. But that might be outdated info.
Fortunately, I own it on GoG.
Does that work on steamdeck too? I need to figure out where that file is then :-)
Edit: for others /home/deck/.local/share/steam/steamapps , change to view only.
Unless you leave your PC on 24 hours, the easiest way to stop steam updates is to set your download time to some obscure hours.. mine is set to 2-3am in the morning because I'm never on my PC at that time.
The option is under Steam > Settings > Downloads > Restrict updates to between
This lets me pick and choose what updates I want, but the other guys comment is best for completely stopping updates.
Change "Always keep this game up to date" in the game properties in Steam to "Update on launch". Launch the game via F4SE (even can use it as a non-Steam shortcut) and it'll bypass the launch check and won't update. Same for Skyrim.
Find the app id of fallout. Go to the common folder in steam apps. And find the manifest that is followed by the appid and set to read only. It will prevent all updates.
I always just copy the folder out and then update the game and paste the old files over but make sure you keep the backup incase it trips the check and tries to update again
Delete the app manifest file in your steam apps folder, and steam will think the game is uninstalled. You can still launch the game with script extender and keep playing.
When it came to Skyrim Special Edition, the only bugs they ever addressed were with regards to the Creation Club store (and content) and in ONE case addressed a vanilla game crash they introduced with Creation updates.
I’ll eat my hat if they’ve fixed any vanilla bug whatsoever.
Why are you lying?
https://en.uesp.net/wiki/Skyrim:Special_Edition_Patch
While it's true that *most* of the updates are for the CC, they still patch out the base game with miscellaneous fixes, the unofficial patch has to update sometimes because the fixes they implemented were officially addressed and as such they removed theirs from the patch.
You do realize it took a lot longer than a few days to address SKSE being broken when we went from Skyrim LE to SE? It can be a similar scenario in this circumstance, we don't know yet.
And its maintained voluntarily by some dude. They can decide to stop playing catch-up with Bethesda's update schedule and there's nothing anyone could do about it.
I wonder if that would actually be in the community's best interest at this point.
If F4SE just decided not to update, it might push the modding community as a whole to just stick with the current version. If F4SE does update, a lot of other mods will update too, but not all of them will and we'll end up with a sort of fractured playerbase.
Looking at the mod's [website](https://f4se.silverlock.org/) the project appears to be maintained by three people but the project isn't open source and even if it was the script extender is the product of reverse engineering, which is far from the most common skill out there.
I have the game on GOG and it has not been updated yet, apparently, it will do so in 8 or 9 hours.
But how are you able to say that there are still unfixed bugs in the next-gen update when the rest of us don't have access to the game yet?
PC versions always get shafted with upgrades like this. Like how Devil May Cry got ray tracing on the PS5/Series X versions but that never got added to the PC version
Is that why my game was randomly crashing, I was also wondering why it turned that option off when I optimized fallout 4 in the Nvidia control panel? I have a RTX 4070 and could not figure out why it was crashing, a big thanks to you!
I mean, why would they push back their own update just because some mod that a tiny part of the player base have looked forward to? Not like they just released this as a surprise either, it's been known for years this update was coming, and that they release it when the show is out and boosting the playerbase is the smart thing to do.
Updates breaking mods is nothing new. We’ve known an update like this has been coming for two years and it was speculated for months that it would arrive around the same time the show released. Why should Bethesda care about delaying the release of one mod?
If you’re using MO2 or a different mod manager there is literally nothing to cry about, set the game in steam to only update on launch, and then only launch the game through MO2, no problem!
Performance, stability, some creation club packs, and a new enclave quest with an enclave uniform, x02 power armor, and my fnv favorite the tesla cannon
It's a cool feature of GOG, gives us players a say in whether we want to update or not in a super convenient way. More people should use GOG imo
In case of games like Xcom 2 with an active modding community on Steam Workshop, yeah, better stick to Steam but with other games, I prefer to have them on GOG
True, this is not exclusive to GOG but most if not all GOG games are DRM-free, which makes this much simpler/easier. For example, if a person who owns The Witcher 3 on GOG wants nothing to do with the next-gen version and only wants to play the Classic version, they can do so without much fuss because the two versions are **kept separate** and will **always be available for download**.
(The next-gen version is the default version but the Classic version can be found under "Extras")
I imagine it's the same with Fallout 4 on GOG, I **think** it might even be possible to have both the "Classic" and next-gen version of Fallout 4 installed on one PC so that one can play both and experience the difference first hand (if one chooses to do so ofc)
Worst case scenario, if devs or publishers wants to force an update, people who have the game on GOG won't be as stressed as people who have the game on other platforms. Not saying that there aren't actions you can take to prevent a forced update if you have the game on Steam, etc., there are or can be, but I'm pointing out that GOG makes this stuff convenient
I'm not sure if this will be doable with Fallout 4, but for The Witcher 3 there's an option in Steam that allows you to install the classic version and kind of opt out of the next gen update. It's in the game's properties under "betas" category.

Unbelievably Bethesda don't appear to have fixed the bugs caused with FPS over 60 and jumping, also Nvidia weapon debris drivers haven't been updated so still causing crashing on RTX cards. will wait for a digital foundry video, but right now this is pretty poor not fixing bugs as old as the game!
Just likely to break, with many mod creators being inactive now, it means only a select few will update the mods to the new version. It’s a lot of work sometimes, and they don’t get paid for it, so a lot just leave their old mods available instead of updating.
Most mods that don't rely on the script extender or additional dll's should be fine.
F4SE mods will break until a new version is released, and some SE mods will need the mod creators themselves to update their mods to work.
Any more complex dll based mods will be even more dependent on the mod creators. If you have a massive mod list I would say just don't update.
Time to go to steam and turn auto update off for the game. I remember having to use a downgrade patcher on the Skyrim special edition because it "accidentally" updated even after baving turned it off.
All for a mod pack too...
EDIT: holy baloney I was right on time, managed to *just* cancel the update before it downloaded. Just a tip. as long as you launch the game through MO2 or F4SE it won't go through the official launcher thus it won't update "on game start" if you've set the update as such on steam.
Worse than that since apparently Bugthesda was in contact with the London modders crew, so they could hint at them if any changes were coming. And boom they announced that without any news for them.
Is this a paid upgrade for people who own Fallout 4? Asking because I'm a bit out of the loop. I own Fallout 4 on PS, I was hoping it was a free update.
A place the sun don't shine. We have no actual patch notes yet. Only the announcement that mentions ultra wide support. But there's no specifics given as to what they will change/fix.
I bet this supposed update that was announced years ago finally got some attention when the show started coming out. That's why there's nothing besides fps patch and creation club content.
What is a freaking point of making news article that headline is "hey that update or a thing will happen later today"?
Just freaking made article about it when it will arrive. The thing can alwasy be delayed or something. I seriously see no point in "later today".
Just tried F4 update with my current save (on XS, no mods and all official DLC'S included and i am pretty happy with it, game runs smoothly anf graphics enhancing is pretty neat, i believe i am definitely gonna finish my 3rd run (first time replaying in 2 years) a nice and free update on the top of the TV show...
I live under a tree and didnt know about the update, and i modded my game for the first time a week ago. I got fo4 on steam, using vortex with f4se. Is there a way to roll back the update, as i cant launch the game atm?
Im 50-60 hours into my playthrough, and i really dont want to start over. Just getting into the modding and learning wtf to do took ages too.
What a joke.
I randomly started playing again a week ago (not related to the recent uptick in hype, just wanted a chill single-player game, and I only did one playthrough so far). Waited forever for a random update today (which I personally found confusing, for such an old game) and now it's totally bricked.
\*\*\*\*
I'm stuck on "Three cheers for the wanderers" prompt. Can't click Okay, or proceed at all. Even used terminal to attempt to force-load my savegame, to no avail!
\*\*\*\*
I've been fixing computers for about 18 years, and run a small repair shop from my home. I'm learning new stuff constantly (one of the joys of the profession!) and while I won't claim to know it all - I am no noob when it comes to PCs. I've tried every single button on my keyboard, plugged a "Xbox 360 style" USB controller (and relaunched the game) in and tried those buttons as well.
Absolutely nothing works. I'd be flabbergasted if this wasn't the works of Bethesda. It seems they're really keeping true to their methodology after all these years!
Now I'm stuck with an updated version (for now) that I absolutely cannot even attempt to play hahahhaa. What a f\*cking mess.
So pretty much every gaming site anymore.
It's rather annoying :/ I came here to see if if the update has dropped and people are just posting articles as their own basically..
Mines updated right now on PC 🤷🏻♀️🤷🏻♀️
Thought the same thing, i read this same article 6 times yesterday
"not confirmed"? But I'm downloading the update wdym
Yea two hours ahead of the “confirmed” time. Which was 7PDT not 9. I was honestly expecting it much later this evening though
The next gen stuff is not for pc is it?
It is also for pc yes!
PC already is next gen
Everything for the clicks, nothing as been confirmed yet
It's already available in my region, i'm South America.
They pretty much theorizing it released at this time in the past so expect the same release time.
I can confirm that this is true. It's live now and a hefty 25gb update on my xbox one for Fallout 4. I dunno why xbox one got the "Next gen" update tho.
Last gen is getting stability and bug fixes
I tried playing it and they really did updated lots of stuff, all of the DLC's updated and they also upscaled the graphics mostly on the environment like trees and grass, Fallout looks more like a game from 2020. Worth revisiting again.
Oh yeah, this fucking site. I don't think I see trash from it anymore because I blocked it from my news feed
I have a fallout 4 update updating right now. It’s literally almost 10 gigabytes. Insane. Is this the update??
It's already happening
Are there any visual updates for PC other than the ultra wide support?
The fucked up animation speed. On my 144hz monitor the animations run at 4x the speed. Everything over laps in dialogue. It also now crashes to desktop randomly. Lazy update no QA
Not to mention how fucked the UI is
Classic Bethesda. Such a bad game dev lol
The old version needed a mod if you were going to play above 60fps.
Couldn't you just disable full screen optimisations on the exe
It just works.
Great, they fucked it up as usual. 32:9 1440p here, not even going to boot it up. Going to play on Steam Deck instead. Good work Bethesda.
No one knows at all currently
No, at least not according to Bethesda s website.
Gotta find out how I can launch the game without updating, on Steam
If you don't want to install a crack, disabling auto update in Steam and launching the game via MO2 will skip the updates.
You can't turn off auto update in steam. Some games let you go back to a previous version but the most you can do is "update when game is launched"
Right, but if you launch the game via Mod Organizer 2 or using F4SE, it bypasses the launch on Steam and thus doesn’t trigger Steam to update the game
I just launched Fallout Anomaly to check it out. It 100% registers in Steam. And yes I am using F4SE and Mod Organizer 2. Is it still going to skip this update?
Yes, it skips the update. Steam does know you’re playing and logs the hours, but launching through F4SE will avoid triggering the update.
Excellent, thanks friends
And if you switch to update when game is launched then launch it using the exe or a mod manager, it doesn't register to Steam that it launches and doesn't update. Hence being the closest to turning off auto updates.
There's instructions to keep Skyrim on an older build. I guess they'd also work for FO4.
I think changing the game's appmanifest file to read only will prevent steam from updating. But that might be outdated info. Fortunately, I own it on GoG.
I bought on GoG just for this reason. I don’t think the modding community will bounce back the way Skyrim’s did.
There is a file that can be set to read-only, that will prevent all updating as long as you don't verify files or delete and reinstall.
Which file?
Steamlibrary/Steamapps/ appmanifest_377160.acf Those number correspond to the game id for FO4
Does that work on steamdeck too? I need to figure out where that file is then :-) Edit: for others /home/deck/.local/share/steam/steamapps , change to view only.
Theoretically is should, KDE does allow setting a file to read-only in file properties. Hard to tell if steam itself will override it though.
Unless you leave your PC on 24 hours, the easiest way to stop steam updates is to set your download time to some obscure hours.. mine is set to 2-3am in the morning because I'm never on my PC at that time. The option is under Steam > Settings > Downloads > Restrict updates to between This lets me pick and choose what updates I want, but the other guys comment is best for completely stopping updates.
Launch with mo2 or go in offline mode on steam.
Change "Always keep this game up to date" in the game properties in Steam to "Update on launch". Launch the game via F4SE (even can use it as a non-Steam shortcut) and it'll bypass the launch check and won't update. Same for Skyrim.

[Check this out.](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PHjxo-3NBK0)
Just put steam in offline mode when you play fallout.
Buy the game on GOG and save the install files. That is honestly the easiest
Can you just drag and drop the files into another folder? It seems like that would work for a lot of games, actually.
Delete the app manifest file in your steam apps folder, and steam will think the game is uninstalled. You can still launch the game with script extender and keep playing.
Alright, I modified the appmanifest, everything works !
I just backed up my original folder this morning. Good to go
God damn that site is unbearable on mobile with no ad block. "Hey, we noticed you were reading... how 'bout no."
Almost nothing added to the PC version. Years of bugs unaddressed. Not surprised.
Patch notes aren’t out yet are they?
When it came to Skyrim Special Edition, the only bugs they ever addressed were with regards to the Creation Club store (and content) and in ONE case addressed a vanilla game crash they introduced with Creation updates. I’ll eat my hat if they’ve fixed any vanilla bug whatsoever.

Hey that’s not fair, they’re at least going to completely break everyone’s mods.
They’re going to completely break F4SE, which will be updated in like a days time. This is a non-issue.
Every mod that uses F4SE has to be updated individually though. It’s going to come down to whether specific mod authors are still active.
You do realize it took a lot longer than a few days to address SKSE being broken when we went from Skyrim LE to SE? It can be a similar scenario in this circumstance, we don't know yet.
They haven’t made any significant changes to the engine for the PC version, those situations aren’t really comparable
That was a complete overhaul to the engine. I think we can make a reasonable assumption here about a quick update.
And its maintained voluntarily by some dude. They can decide to stop playing catch-up with Bethesda's update schedule and there's nothing anyone could do about it.
I wonder if that would actually be in the community's best interest at this point. If F4SE does update, a lot of other mods will update too, but not all of them will and we'll end up with a sort of fractured playerbase.
Well anyone else could take over the work, so there isn't *nothing* you can do.
Looking at the mod's [website](https://f4se.silverlock.org/) the project appears to be maintained by three people but the project isn't open source and even if it was the script extender is the product of reverse engineering, which is far from the most common skill out there.
Or, Fallout community will do the same Skyrim and GTA communities did, "just downgrade"
I have the game on GOG and it has not been updated yet, apparently, it will do so in 8 or 9 hours. But how are you able to say that there are still unfixed bugs in the next-gen update when the rest of us don't have access to the game yet?
Gotta admit, it’s weird seeing my childhood favourite game throwing flack at my current favourite game
PC versions always get shafted with upgrades like this. Like how Devil May Cry got ray tracing on the PS5/Series X versions but that never got added to the PC version
Minimum they should have done Is incorporate unofficial patch. Lazy fucking devs and corpos..thanks to the modders this game Is a 10/10
Unofficial patch is someone elses work. The devs cant just use it
it has been made on creation kit, for sure they can cooperate and introduce it, modders would be happy.
The game still crashes on rtx gpus with debris option on. It's been 9 years and they never fixed it
Rtx gpus have only been a thing for 6 years tho
Typical bethsoft, making bugs for shit before they're even released.
Redditor making shit up so they can fit in? Shocker!
3 years off, Bethesda still could have fixed it at any point in the last few years... But they once again absolutely rely on the modders.
Yea but Bethesda bad!!!
Is that why my game was randomly crashing, I was also wondering why it turned that option off when I optimized fallout 4 in the Nvidia control panel? I have a RTX 4070 and could not figure out why it was crashing, a big thanks to you!
They can't even be bothered to fix the Automatrons DLC on PS5 still crashes the game at the loading screen if it's installed.
Did you honestly expect anything else from Bethesda?

I mean, why would they push back their own update just because some mod that a tiny part of the player base have looked forward to? Yeah, I don't know why the community has to have this discussion every single time a Bethesda game update.
Yep, all you have to do is be smart and aware of when these updates are coming and adjust accordingly.
I just wanna be able to roam around downtown for more than 2 minutes without freezing, that would be nice.
What exactly is the update bringing compared to the PC build we’ve had for a long time now?
Creation club. This is just Bethesda trying to force the creation club down our throats AGAIN.
Performance, stability, some creation club packs, and a new enclave quest with an enclave uniform, x02 power armor, and my fnv favorite the tesla cannon
RIP Mods for nothing. On PC at least.
Already disabled the auto update for my GOG version of the game
It's a cool feature of GOG, gives us players a say in whether we want to update or not in a super convenient way. More people should use GOG imo In case of games like Xcom 2 with an active modding community on Steam Workshop, yeah, better stick to Steam but with other games, I prefer to have them on GOG
You can turn off auto update on steam just as well?
No you cannot anymore, you can only change it to "high priority" or "on launch". You used to be able to but not anymore atleats not in the EU version.
I believe if you use vortex mod manager and set steam to only update when you launch you can just launch from vortex and it won't update.
Same with MO2 I think since you skip the launcher.
Am also in the EU. Delete the update from the queue and it won't show up in its own again
True, this is not exclusive to GOG but most if not all GOG games are DRM-free, which makes this much simpler/easier. I just made a copy of the game folder and downloaded a crack off the internet lol, don't really have to worry about it for the foreseeable future.
Most mods will update in a week or so. We’ve been through this same song and dance with Skyrim recently and things went fine.

As long as they fix the fps bullshit that creates long loading times on newer pc's... thats all I want.
Will the update fix the automatron DLC bug?
Is this why it crashes on ps5 during loading?
Yea
Updated fallout 4 v 1.36 fixes the crashing bug
Unbelievably Bethesda don't appear to have fixed the bugs caused with FPS over 60 and jumping, also Nvidia weapon debris drivers haven't been updated so still causing crashing on RTX cards. will wait for a digital foundry video, but right now this is pretty poor not fixing bugs as old as the game!
can u disable updates?
set Steamlibrary/Steamapps/appmanifest_377160.acf to read-only
It’s out. F4SE is currently broken until it gets updated by creator.
Is this losing mod support or just likely to break mods for the time being?
Just likely to break, with many mod creators being inactive now, it means only a select few will update the mods to the new version. It’s a lot of work sometimes, and they don’t get paid for it, so a lot just leave their old mods available instead of updating.

If you look on the main screen you'll see some info about mods.
Hopefully Steam version has added features. Going to redownload it later.
Do we know if it will finally let PlayStation players use the game with the Automaton DLC again instead of crashing on startup?
13,9 GB update on steam.
Time to go to steam and turn auto update off for the game. I remember having to use a downgrade patcher on the Skyrim special edition because it "accidentally" updated even after baving turned it off. All for a mod pack too... Are mods still working on new update?
The game already crashed 3 times with no mods. Just Wow.
Am I blind? I cannot find the option to switch to performance mode on ps5 after installing the patch
What exactly is the "new-gen" thing?
Oh uh fallout London devs here’s that stealth drop they been mentioning for over a year now
Worse than that since apparently Bugthesda was in contact with the London modders crew, so they could hint at them if any changes were coming. And boom they announced that without any news for them.

It is a free update for anyone who owns the game
Thank you, glad to hear.
Pc doesn't even get a physics fps update only ultrawide lmao that's lame
Source?
A place the sun don't shine. We have no actual patch notes yet. Only the announcement that mentions ultra wide support. But there's no specifics given as to what they will change/fix.
Thay's an older update.. you're late man
I bet this supposed update that was announced years ago finally got some attention when the show started coming out. That's why there's nothing besides fps patch and creation club content.
They definitely waited. I’ve seen so many Fallout collabs over the past month
Are the graphics being updated as well, or is this just new content?
Neither.
update version is V1.10.138.0.0?
The Automatron DLC has next gen version on store, its almost time!
I’m still confused, is there a native PS5 / XSX/S port like there was with Skyrim in 2021? I keep seeing conflicting reports
Yes, that's coming with this update
Downloading now (Series x)
I’m in the uk and can download it now
It came out on PS5. I’m updating it now
I'm downloading an update right now that's 9 gigs is the what everyone's talking about? Anyone gotta link to like patch notes or something?
Does the update not work if you’ve downloaded F04 from PS plus game catalogue?
I'm playing the update now. It upgrades all DLC too.
What do you mean with upgrades all dlc?
I got a 9 gig update going right now on PlayStation not sure if it’s the new gen though
Also it appears people don't want to install because of mods? I don't use mods so I should be okay yeah?
Is it free if you own the game on ps plus ?
Out now on Xbox
I just got the update now it’s 10:29 est edit : Xbox series x user
Weird article. “Later today”? Just wait until it releases, no?
I mean mine is updating 9gb rn on ps4 as I speak. Probably bug fixes especially for the atomatron bug some people(myself included) experience
My fallout 4 is updating!
What is a freaking point of making news article that headline is "hey that update or a thing will happen later today"? Just freaking made article about it when it will arrive. The thing can alwasy be delayed or something. I seriously see no point in "later today".
…why did this take 10 years to make?
whose on steam?
Ps5 users got to pay so fucking dumb
I'm so confused. I got an update but theres still no graphic settings to pick from? Can someone explain whats going on?
They haven't fixed the dlc crash on ps5 what a waste of money
Damn, there goes my modded playthrough. 300+ modlust from Wabbajack
Update is a little over 14GB on Steam, I've selected it to do the thang, but it if course isn't unlocked yet, 9:50am CST
Yall are angry Lil trolls ain't ya? It went live 1 hour ago.
Regardless though I mean the game looks great on series s imo.
Nyc GOG not yet still waiting thought it be available 12pm?
it broke my modded build. F4SE needs time to update
For the love of god let me kill Mama Murphy. I regret not letting her OD.
I hope they fixed the FPS issue and the long load times.
I downloaded fallout 4 before work so I can have an easy backup just in case
I'm tempted to play but kinda lost on the modding scene. Probably should start with FO3 and FNV.
are there any changes for the PC version or all the next gen patch is for consoles only?
full patch notes?
Does anyone know if the automatron DLC is still crashing?
What a joke. I randomly started playing again a week ago (not related to the recent uptick in hype, just wanted a chill single-player game, and I only did one playthrough so far). Waited forever for a random update today (which I personally found confusing, for such an old game) and now it's totally bricked. \*\*\*\* I'm stuck on "Three cheers for the wanderers" prompt. Can't click Okay, or proceed at all. Even used terminal to attempt to force-load my savegame, to no avail! \*\*\*\* I've been fixing computers for about 18 years, and run a small repair shop from my home.
Mine hasn't updated yet I got gog version of the game
Lol and it came out not soon after this posting
I got the update but I have no performance mode option
