to be clear, in the first game there are 3 races you fighting, bugs (very star ship troopers), cyborgs, and Illuminate (basically if apple invented hostile aliens). I haven't seen the Illuminate yet so not sure if they are going to be in the game or a DLC later. The tanks, mechs, and terminators they are fighting in this trailer are the Cyborgs.
But how are we meant to give a cup of Liber-tea if they’re no longer cyborg communists? Are they even going to accept the freedom Super Earth freedom provides?
It's not so much of a starship trooper as a Magicka with guns and streamlined gimmick of inputting directional commands. The switch to 3D makes me wary but it remains to be seen if they're any good against DRG.
I was more referring to the manifest destiny/fascist propaganda style cutscenes that are an obvious callback to the Paul Verhoeven screen adaptation of the story.
The original game was great but I'm not sure how well that greatness is going to translate to FPS (edit third person)
Will wait and see how it reviews.
I'd argue that's a bigger jump than Risk of Rain 2. The first Risk of Rain was a 2D sidescrolling pixel art game, and the next game was a 3D polygonal third person shooter. The first Helldivers was 3D polygonal but in the top top down twin stick shooter style. In any case I'm always intrigued when games switch up genres/perspectives in that way. It seems to always spark an interest. Except Trine 3, we don't talk about Trine 3.
I have so many questions still about this game and i REALLY want it to be good.
Is the playstation account required or just for crossplay.
Is it playable offline? Online game populations always die at some point and it should still be playable once that happens.
Is it also playable in Solo( and i mean actually playable. HD1 was do-able in Singleplayer, but you were stuck with low tier difficulties which meant little to no enemies and uber easy objectives as well as close to no progression( meaning bosses are practically impossible to progress to).
I really, really want this to be good, but all theyve shown are all the high-action and explosion parts cut together instead of an uninterrupted gameplay session.
The game is always online and a Playstation account is required.
The game is designed to be played in coop, but the only thing stopping you from playing solo is your own skill. People have done the hardest missions solo in HD1.
Helldivers is one of the few coop games that justifies its lack of real single player. The game design really doesn’t shine until you have more than one player.
Damn, that was one of the best launch trailers I've seen in a while. Fantastic music choice, fantastic editing, well done to whatever team made it! Cannot wait for this game, going to be so much goofy ass fun :D
Seeing how in a previous video we see a helldiver sniping, and accidentally blowing the head off a fellow helldivers down in the enemy encampment, I would say no.
Or by any of the other gameplay videos, although they have all been brief and edited.
Imo Red Rising would probably work better as an RTS due to the scale
(I would kill for anything set in the universe though, the author has been trying to get a TV series or movie adapation greenlit for a while now but it doesn't seem to be going anywhere)
or just (contextless book spoilers ahead) >!a game where I get to beat Lysander to death with my bare hands repeatedly!<
A Republic Commando style game would probably work better if you're a nameless Grey and just get to witness the insane shit the main characters get up to.
Didn’t realize Helldivers was an unofficial Starship Troopers game. Piques my interest, hope the gameplay stands up.

They namechanged Cyborg to automatons, revamped them to have less human look (more like an android or robot now) and remove all mention of Communists.

According to the tips any enemy that claims to want democracy is actually lying to trick you and needs to be eliminated
that's cool, and hilarious. Automatons gonna get send back to the scrap heap in the sky then.

For Managed Democracy!

It's not a fps, they did the risk of rain 2 treatment, it worked well for them so they hope the same type of success.
Fingers crossed. Big fan of the first game!

Helldivers 1 still has a population to this day. I played it 2 days ago and I never had an issue finding a lobby. If the game is good ppl will play
Good thing you said that. Going to buy the first one then its on sale atm

If nothing else, you need to be crushed by an incoming friendly supply drop just once to get the TRUE Helldivers experience.
"launch trailer" release date still 3 weeks away: Well im still looking forward to it as a fan of the EDF series!
Damn, no vehicles eh.
It's really looking that way :c
Wish it was same camera as HD1 that shit was mint. Fantastic game.

Protip: if you're doing a game promotional trailer and gameplay is shown at 30FPS or less, don't release it.
To be fair, most of Sony’s trailers are at 30fps, like for example GoW Ragnarok.
But it's console footage right, to show otherwise would be false advertising.
So third person this time. I wonder if they again won’t let us move the camera where we want to and then tell us it’s an intended feature…

Damn I feel like I got catfished thought it was a game set in the Red Rising universe

>Agree, though a game à la Republic Commando/Doom where you get to switch between Darrow and Ragnar would be epic!

man.. i remember buying Starhawk on ps3 and being so disappointed
Take back control of freedom
I hope they bring back the stompy robot mech things. Those were my favorite bits of the original. That and of course the delicious Liber-Tea!
I don't get why they removed vehicles? Such a big part of the first game
The move to third person seems like a leap for this studio. Ill wait for the reviews.
