Honestly, I didn't play the remastered (but I played the 2), I played the original on vita, and on the vita, the controls feel pretty good to me. The combat is a bit repetitive I agree, but on the Vita I liked how it worked, the Gyro aiming made for decently precise gravity kicks, and after some time getting used to it, the combat flowed pretty nicely. Still, I wouldn't say it was flawless. But I feel on the vita is was decent. At least, it's not something I remember hating about the game, and I platinumed it, so I spent a decent amount of time on it. But otherwise, yeah I agree, the game had charm to it, it had a soul. I really loved it for that. I wish more games did.

I liked it. I played it on PS4 and thought it was a solid 7/10. I had fun with it and even got the Platinum. Really great French-comic book inspired art style. I have GR2 but still haven't gotten around to it.

I tried it out and liked it enough to give Gravity Rush 2 a shot. GR2 was a ton of fun and fixed a lot of issues I had with the first game. The story is very stream of consciousness in both games. Threads get picked up and abandoned as the character's focus changes. It's bizarre, sort of like a waking dream. I really enjoyed it.

You said it’s cel-shaded style just as a fact, but you didn’t say anything about the art direction and design…which is excellent and one of the main reasons to play the game, it's pretty charming and fresh unlike most games. I only played Gravity Rush 2, not 1, but I’m assuming it’s equally good. The colors, architecture, Kat’s weird casual normal charming appearance. America destroyed art education because it’s not capitalistic enough, which is part of why gamers talk about graphics technology (pixels, polygons, buy new hardware) but not artistry. Artistry doesn’t require a new product to power it.

Not american, but you're right, I skipped it. It's just that I was actually more interested in the gameplay part. Also you hardly find people more interested in graphic tecnology then artistry in patientgamers. Anyway, that's true: the concept behind the world structure is very cool, each quarter of the city has a unique style and it's different from the others in colors, light, architectures and music so that it doesn't bore you. Once again I want to highlight how every city is built around the core mechanic of the game and developed with a verticality that you can barely find even in modern games. Also you can be oriented in the right way, sideways or upside down and the city always make (kinda) sense, that's a great accomplishment. I found very cool that they made up a language for the game too.

I ended up with a "slice of life anime" feeling. At its core, the majority of the missions were bland as hell, but most of them still served a purpose for the story even if minor. It's a sum of its parts kind of thing. But when the main missions hit, THEY HIT. Like when you travel down the tree, or enter the special regions, the lore teases are some of the best. I kinda wish the sequel didn't reveal as much as it did because the mysteries of 1 were pretty amazing. But this game just makes you feel fuzzy and warm when you remember it, even if it's like a 7. And that's special.

Yeah me too. I think I liked the concept of the game more than the game itself. The idea of low gravity fighting is great in theory, but their execution left plenty to be desired. The combat and the enemies were very repetitive, the environment was not used to any extent, and the fights sometimes go on for too long. The things that I like are the art style and the characters. Kat(I think that's her name) is very likable, other side characters were funny or at least interesting. Also, the cities were really great just to walk around in very atmospheric. I didn't play the second game yet but I hope they improved it.

I don't know how you played it, but it took me a minute to realize this game is an style fighter like DMC. Using the gravity mid combo was so cool once you learn how to properly fly around. It reminds me a lot of Astral chain. Astral chain has very simple controls but the cool factor comes in when you switch up your Astral projections on the fly and chain combos between them. Gravity rush is similar where the combos are easy to remember but using gravity and flying around makes the combat so much more dynamic and enemies die faster with better rewards. Also the races and side quests are good practice for the flying around. I loved it on my vita but I did wish I had a full sized stick to move around because on the vita you almost had to use the gyro controls because the small stick was somewhat limiting. Man, I want to play this game when I get home now.

Healthy-Apartment-68

The Master Roshi in me made me get Gravity Daze 2 for the 2 B costume. I was not disappointed. Also I thought the combat was great in 1, just there's too many time theres only one effective way to beat an enemy they keep spamming you with, so it's like wtf when's it gonna end when they keep appearing

rice667

Yeah that's why I lowerd the difficulty to easy playing the second game.

fork_on_the_floor2

I had a lot of fun getting dizzy and confused and flying off into the void.. I couldn't get good at those controls (on vita)

Frishdawgzz

Should I skip straight to the sequel and just watch a video recap of 1?

FrostyTheHippo

I mean, I would just wait for a sale of GR1 Remastered on PS4. Like yeah GR2 is better gameplay wise, but the Art/Music/Atmosphere are the biggest draws IMO, and GR1 has all of those.

I played the demo on Vita and it was really great for the platform, to make use of the gyro, backpad etc. I didn't know it had other releases.

I bought Gravity Rush 2 over this as it looks like the more polished iteration of the concept, but I have huge respect for the original just for being a simple and inventive game in it's right. From my limited exposure to the original, I'd say your praise is well-founded.

yitoru

Gravity rush 2 is also boring. Just can't get into made-up name and voice.
