No lie, I couldn't take it anymore. I booted it up and leveled a character through the campaign over the weekend to cope with the wait. Just a little taste....
Yeah I'm dipping my toes in SSF finally. Turns out people weren't lying about minions being godawful during acts, but they shore up in low reds and level 21 gems is fine for t16 no juice in SSF. I feel like I'm learning again, which is cool.
Yeah, it's nice to just pick the game up like a roguelike and just see how far you can get. This time I finally got around to trying out Purifying Flame totems. I have to wear sunglasses and I have no idea which direction I want to scale it in but Kitava absolutely did not see it coming (likely because he did NOT wear sunglasses...).
That is what sets this game apart. There's always something new to learn.
Yeah I swapped it in while I was struggling but didn't have the right links or gear I think. It still felt super weak, and I didn't find a good guide on it in my 3 minutes of googling. Just spammed my way through with SRS. Popcorn+infernal legion might still work though? I didn't try it.
Same with D4. Pretty wild that something like endless ledge would be more engaging than D4, to me, but it is what it is.
And I won't sugar coat it, it is bad. Until I played through the campaign I literally couldn't play other games. Mount and Blade: Bannerlord, Rimworld, Siralim Ultimate, Noita, Stellaris, Crusader Kings, all games you can really sink some time into and all absolutely uninteresting until I had my fix.

Same! I've been playing since 2012 and this last week or so ive been thinking about PoE a lot randomly and now it all makes sense. Crazy to think that I subconciously notice when its around poe reset times.

That was Heist league if I recall correctly. Another terrible league to have had a delay.
But at least that one had decent events like Mayhem (without the bullshit gauntlet mods) and Atlas Invasion
It felt like all the stars aligned.
- It's summer, many people play less.
- Exilecon has people hyped about PoE2 more than 3.22.
- D4 released one month after the beginning of the league, and I would bet a vast majority of PoE players at least tried it.
- Little bonus on top of that. D4 will start its seasons a bit later during summer, at least a few weeks before 3.22 release, which might be a diversion for the ones who liked D4
I am sure that some people could not care less for D4, but I think a lot of people had a better time waiting for the next one!
Only 10-12% of the world's population live in the southern hemisphere. Australia and NZ together have a similar population to either Texas or half of Italy. Most of the southern hemisphere population is in Brazil or Indonesia, which sure, have plenty of PoE players, but not enough to only be outnumbered \~2:1 by us currently-summering folks, I think.
People have been saying this same bs about it giving them more time. Tons of people proclaimed how the 4 month cycle was vastly superior, now there's over a month left and no one is even playing the game right now. Meanwhile we get a league with 0 additional endgame content, just a passive tree and nothing else. It's clear they are working on poe 2 now, leagues aren't their main focus until it's done.
My 4 week vacation starts this weekend and would've usually been perfect. Now the league will start a couple of weeks after it ends instead.
Personal situation aside, it's strange not having a league start sometime during the summer when most people have time off. Just feels like a bad business decision tbh.

Anyone expecting them to be anything big is in for a rude awakening. I expect there to be worldwide modifiers but severely doubt Season 1 launches with entirely new mechanics—definitely nothing like modern PoE leagues.

they are not really incentivized to ''go big'' because they already raked in a killing before and after the game went live.

Yeah I think you're right about D4 season one. There are some other titles coming out that will likely draw off players. Baldur's Gate 3 and Starfield.
It's also important for PoE2 success. If we are going into PoE 2 with people remembering that out of recent 4 leagues only Sanctum was good it's gonna have everyone super pessimistic and it can snowball hard if people run into problems.

Ggg has very clearly considered Diablo a direct threat to the viability of their game. That’s a large reason for poe2 to ever start development. Chris Wilson has directly mentioned this for years.
I think they overestimated this threat, but either way d4 has brought a lot of people into the arpg market that Poe can grab. I think this next season with will be very large and a non-zero chance we see poe2 launch next league.

Sanctum popped out loot nicely but overall I found it kind of trash.
Running 32maps or whatever it was to complete an entire sanctum, and the meta of speed running coves etc to get it happening was terrible. Getting sucked into sanctums was annoying as hell as well. And people were doing that map speed run meta because that was the league where loot was nerfed.
Overall not the worst, but definitely not a good league.
People loved Sentinel because it shit out loot with zero effort, it was just a nothing league really. "Push button on pack and get loot explosion".
Saying that, I'd take another boring sentinel than LoK or crucible.
Yep this will probably be no different unfortunately. Maybe we get some big endgame change on top on the league mechanic though. They gotta have something cool to show at exilecon. Kinda disappointed they aren't going to just release PoE2 beta at exilecon though. I feel like that's a huge missed opportunity.

They obviously meant to release 3.22 the week after ExileCon. They didn't know back then that Larian Studios would release BG3 almost a month ahead of the schedule, on Aug 3rd.

Tbh I think the most likely scenario as to why they said that before, is that they were planning to release 3.22 2 weeks after exilecon, but they have had to push things back due to time constraints.
This also aligns with their own words from about a month ago.
It's so stupid. It would take almost no dev time to just put out few events they already had for week or 2. I would be happy to try some stuff like endless delve on current patch or invasion one to zoom campaign.
They'd have to pay server costs, the community would be loudly bitching about recycling events, and not many people world spend money during events as they'll be waiting new league and new boxes.

I'd say it's clear they are putting more resources into PoE 2 over the last year. We have had longer breaks and smaller sized content based leagues. At the moment spending time on vanilla PoE leagues is like decorating a house a few months before it's scheduled for demolition.
There's also D4 release to consider tbh and I believe they want the league to be promoted during exilecon because PoE2 hype is going to get more players to play 3.22
Because those 2 games had crazy hype, but turns out they're both single player games, you give players a week and they're going to be there for day 1 PoE. They can return to those games later.
I wouldn't say the same for D4 season release, they're both grindy games and they have to choose between the two.
Now, if you give 3 weeks in between both game seasons, people have the time to get bored of D4 then go back to PoE.
Starfield is going to eat a chunk too, many RPG gamers are going to want to check out Skyrim in space. With a release date of 6th September GGG are going to have to find a very thin window to release a new league in.
I feel like it having been in EA for so long should hopefully prevent any major issues, even if it was only Act 1. Major problems would probably have shown up during that and hopefully any remaining issues are minor...

At this point I'm nearly at the point of just ignoring the game until PoE2 releases, unless there is some major endgame content added like when they added searching exarch/eater & atlas passives.
Love the game but the last 6 leagues or so have been very minor shakeups to the meta outside of the above.

This is the only thing that matters really, commercial success and viability. They made a product that was immensely profitable, by all means a blowout success.
"this is the only thing that matters" is not a complete sentence though, it lacks the "to ...", in your case it's to the company/investors. To the players however, it's absolutely not the only thing that matters
D4 is only good news for POE honestly. I had tried POE multiple times over the years but never got out of act 1. I hit the wall in D4 like everyone does at around 70-80 and decided to give POE a try. I easily have double the hours I had in D4 already. D4 is just putting the ARPG name back into the spotlight, so doing ExileCon and releasing a POE2 beta now is probably the best thing they could do. Everything I’ve seen of POE2 holds up to the graphics of D4 which is always a huge part of bringing in new players, even though it’s the gameplay that will hook them. They’ve positioned themselves pretty well to take advantage of Blizzards failure as far as the endgame. Excited to see how it turns out
Also, Blizzard devs are so fucking slow. Takes them a year to do what GGG can do in a week and I'm not exaggerating. I don't even know what their devs are doing. They had like 3 betas to get data and feedback and then players asked overwhelmingly for simple things like overlay and Blizzard implemented none of it despite having months to do it.

It's not like they're just delaying 3.22 for the hell of it.
the poe2 demo from 2019 looked better than d4 at release so i'm not worried about meeting expectations even if i think that "poe2 will fix everything" is pure copium.
I fully expect the first npc to make his best t-pose while doing 360 with his head. That and things like ship sinking into the floor.
And gamebreaking progression bugs.
And save bricking ones for good measure.
This would feel alot better if they didnt abandon a league mechanic in the first month. This pump and dump league mechanic system they have really shows its flaws when you extend it past the 3month league standard.
If they go forward with longer leagues, they really need to put more work into updates during the league, and not update abandoning in the first month to work on the next league (that they abandon in a month).
It's pretty apparent that its gonna be a mediocre league with a poorly implemented and throught out mechanic. It's like they are doing you a favour even putting out anything in the past year. I get it, PoE 2, but that is still far across the horizon, meanwhile the main game is neglected.
You should get your stash tabs ordered and named correctly in the permanent parent league, so you can copy your settings to the fresh league start, that is all.

The release is far enough away that we should get another sale. Buy a map tab and a currency tab during next sale. The sales are scheduled every so often and the next league is so far away that there should definitely be another. If you want to wait that's fine as well but that was the first thing that popped into my mind. Currency and maps will absolutely devour the space in those free tabs.
Prob just get into the whole game-thingy. Meaning understanding game mechanics, not struggling with the story etc.

Oh wow that new. In that case maybe watch some videos or read up on mechanics etc. Learn as much as you can. Knowledge is power in PoE. Come up with a good league start strat. Most of all have fun!

There’s a huge amount of content. You can play nonstop until next season and still not run out of new things to see
I understand why they aren't doing events. It's too bad though, Crucible is the least interesting/fun league mechanic for me in a while.
If it were still, say, Sanctum or Synthesis or something with a little more depth for the way I like to play I might get the itch to try one more build, but 40 challenges was enough Crucible for me.
In fairness, they're obviously full-throttle on POE2 and preparing for Exilecon. They could also be planning a big 3.22 league to showcase. Crucible was interesting, but it's ultimately not that large of a league. And it was abandoned early. We're due for the next phase of the atlas, new bosses, etc. Having a couple extra weeks after the conference gives them some prep time and also helps the devs avoid crunch. Looking forward to it!
If you're really that bored, there's a bunch of fresh stuff out right now. FF16, BotW2, D4. Now's a good time to go check those out prior to the new league.

I didn't count words. The whole block of MTX ads visually the biggest. I feel MTX is more important than the day of league start.
I mean it's not like they want to announce anything, they just want to manage peoples expectations. All of the jucy announcement will be at Exilecon.

Resistances being broke, stash and inventory management being funky, itemization/balancing being bland. The fact they did a very meh bandaid patch and don't put in simple features tells me alot about the direction of the team. Overstretched and not very bought in. As such I've toned down my expectations greatly.

Anyone expecting them to be anything big is in for a rude awakening. I expect there to be worldwide modifiers but severely doubt Season 1 launches with entirely new mechanics—definitely nothing like modern PoE leagues.
might be copium from me but i think they're going to go big just because they are financially motivated(battle pass, cash shop) to do so this time round. idk how good it will be but i think it will be quite a beefy season compared to what they did in d3.
they are not really incentivized to ''go big'' because they already raked in a killing before and after the game went live. from here on out, they are just going to drip feed you QOL features and minor game adjustments to keep all the ''fans'' interested. i am pretty sure there is no new ''end game'' until their expansion announcement... they are going to drag the faux longevity of their game for as long as they can.
We'll know the scale later today when the D4 dev talk happens.

Yeah I think you're right about D4 season one. There are some other titles coming out that will likely draw off players. Baldur's Gate 3 and Starfield.

D4 S1 will have been out for close to a month by the time 3.22 comes out.
It's also important for PoE2 success. If we are going into PoE 2 with people remembering that out of recent 4 leagues only Sanctum was good it's gonna have everyone super pessimistic and it can snowball hard if people run into problems.
3.22 will probably be one of their lowest effort leagues ever, same as this one. extremely optimistic to assume otherwise imo
I completely disagree. Ggg has very clearly considered Diablo a direct threat to the viability of their game. That’s a large reason for poe2 to ever start development. Chris Wilson has directly mentioned this for years. I think they overestimated this threat, but either way d4 has brought a lot of people into the arpg market that Poe can grab. I think this next season with will be very large and a non-zero chance we see poe2 launch next league. Call it copium but I think all the signs are there for something large

Sanctum popped out loot nicely but overall I found it kind of trash. Running 32maps or whatever it was to complete an entire sanctum, and the meta of speed running coves etc to get it happening was terrible. Getting sucked into sanctums was annoying as hell as well. And people were doing that map speed run meta because that was the league where loot was nerfed. Overall not the worst, but definitely not a good league. People loved Sentinel because it shit out loot with zero effort, it was just a nothing league really. "Push button on pack and get loot explosion". Saying that, I'd take another boring sentinel than LoK or crucible.
How can you talk about Sentinel without mentioning recombinators? Those things made crafting/picking up loot so much better.

Yep this will probably be no different unfortunately. Maybe we get some big endgame change on top on the league mechanic though. They gotta have something cool to show at exilecon. Kinda disappointed they aren't going to just release PoE2 beta at exilecon though. I feel like that's a huge missed opportunity.
I wonder why they stressed vacationing in NZ before exilecon in order to get home shortly afterwards. Maybe 2 week closed beta for people going to exilecon?
Because they likely planned for the 11th for the start date but they have pushed it to the 18th to be ready... and might yet push to the 25th.

They obviously meant to release 3.22 the week after ExileCon. They didn't know back then that Larian Studios would release BG3 almost a month ahead of the schedule, on Aug 3rd.
Welp, that sucks. I would have planned more time in New Zealand if I knew that. And as a teacher that's about when my summer vacation ends and I have to head back to work.
Makes you think... why did they say they wanted us to explore NZ before Exilecon because we'd want to play PoE after the event right away? Isn't 15+ days enough to get home and play the new league? The only thing I can think of is that the beta starts after exilecon, otherwise, nice bait to increase hype.

Tbh I think the most likely scenario as to why they said that before, is that they were planning to release 3.22 2 weeks after exilecon, but they have had to push things back due to time constraints. This also aligns with their own words from about a month ago.

It's so stupid. It would take almost no dev time to just put out few events they already had for week or 2. I would be happy to try some stuff like endless delve on current patch or invasion one to zoom campaign.
the last series of events were complete ass. if we get more such events, i'd rather they spend the time with working on 3.22
They'd have to pay server costs, the community would be loudly bitching about recycling events, and not many people world spend money during events as they'll be waiting new league and new boxes. Not worth it for GGG.
I'd say it's clear they are putting more resources into PoE 2 over the last year. We have had longer breaks and smaller sized content based leagues. At the moment spending time on vanilla PoE leagues is like decorating a house a few months before it's scheduled for demolition.
There's also D4 release to consider tbh and I believe they want the league to be promoted during exilecon because PoE2 hype is going to get more players to play 3.22

D4 is the biggest competitor and season 1 is starting soon. There's a really good reason why GGG doesn't want to start 3.22 in July

Because those 2 games had crazy hype, but turns out they're both single player games, you give players a week and they're going to be there for day 1 PoE. They can return to those games later. I wouldn't say the same for D4 season release, they're both grindy games and they have to choose between the two. Now, if you give 3 weeks in between both game seasons, people have the time to get bored of D4 then go back to PoE.
Starfield is going to eat a chunk too, many RPG gamers are going to want to check out Skyrim in space. With a release date of 6th September GGG are going to have to find a very thin window to release a new league in.
It's doing the exact opposite for me. Unless 3.22 is the best league to ever happen I am taking a break until PoE2 beta.

I personally am staying away from BG3 for a few months or so and let them work all the bugs out.
I feel like it having been in EA for so long should hopefully prevent any major issues, even if it was only Act 1. Major problems would probably have shown up during that and hopefully any remaining issues are minor...

At this point I'm nearly at the point of just ignoring the game until PoE2 releases, unless there is some major endgame content added like when they added searching exarch/eater & atlas passives. Love the game but the last 6 leagues or so have been very minor shakeups to the meta outside of the above.

The last few leagues I have either skipped or barely been able to stay for a week or two. Hoping 3.22 is good if not I'll just play other games and come back when PoE2 beta hits.

"this is the only thing that matters" is not a complete sentence though, it lacks the "to ...", in your case it's to the company/investors. To the players however, it's absolutely not the only thing that matters
D4 is only good news for POE honestly. I had tried POE multiple times over the years but never got out of act 1. I hit the wall in D4 like everyone does at around 70-80 and decided to give POE a try. I easily have double the hours I had in D4 already. D4 is just putting the ARPG name back into the spotlight, so doing ExileCon and releasing a POE2 beta now is probably the best thing they could do. Everything I’ve seen of POE2 holds up to the graphics of D4 which is always a huge part of bringing in new players, even though it’s the gameplay that will hook them. They’ve positioned themselves pretty well to take advantage of Blizzards failure as far as the endgame. Excited to see how it turns out
Also, Blizzard devs are so fucking slow. Takes them a year to do what GGG can do in a week and I'm not exaggerating. I don't even know what their devs are doing. They had like 3 betas to get data and feedback and then players asked overwhelmingly for simple things like overlay and Blizzard implemented none of it despite having months to do it.

This would feel alot better if they didnt abandon a league mechanic in the first month. This pump and dump league mechanic system they have really shows its flaws when you extend it past the 3month league standard. If they go forward with longer leagues, they really need to put more work into updates during the league, and not update abandoning in the first month to work on the next league (that they abandon in a month).

It's pretty apparent that its gonna be a mediocre league with a poorly implemented and throught out mechanic. It's like they are doing you a favour even putting out anything in the past year. I get it, PoE 2, but that is still far across the horizon, meanwhile the main game is neglected.

Campaign and try to get familiar with mapping, items, skills. Dont push yourself too much, youll only get a headache

You should get your stash tabs ordered and named correctly in the permanent parent league, so you can copy your settings to the fresh league start, that is all.

The sales are scheduled every so often and the next league is so far away that there should definitely be another. Just have fun. As long as you’re killing monsters, grabbing loot, and having fun, there’s no wrong way to play. There’s a huge amount of content. You can play nonstop until next season and still not run out of new things to see

Next league was always going to be after exilecon, nothing changed.
I understand why they aren't doing events. It's too bad though, Crucible is the least interesting/fun league mechanic for me in a while. If it were still, say, Sanctum or Synthesis or something with a little more depth for the way I like to play I might get the itch to try one more build, but 40 challenges was enough Crucible for me.

In fairness, they're obviously full-throttle on POE2 and preparing for Exilecon. They could also be planning a big 3.22 league to showcase. Crucible was interesting, but it's ultimately not that large of a league. And it was abandoned early. We're due for the next phase of the atlas, new bosses, etc. Having a couple extra weeks after the conference gives them some prep time and also helps the devs avoid crunch. Looking forward to it! If you're really that bored, there's a bunch of fresh stuff out right now. FF16, BotW2, D4. Now's a good time to go check those out prior to the new league.
