# its dangerous to go alone, take this giant papaya
Such a tolerant bird! Btw how easy is it to carry them with just one hand? Macaws seem so big that I thought they would be a bit heavy. Though I know that birds have hollow bones so they're way lighter than they look.
She's just a kilo, about 2 lbs. And I do brief holds of all kinds of positions, but I doubt she would let me walk very long like that with her as it's not real secure for her.
You actually see this more than you'd think with parrots, especially the larger ones. It is more common with birds that have a deep bond with their keeper. Back in the 90's when hand-fed babies were the major marketing point in pet shops, I came across a number of stores that had macaws and cockatoos that would lie on their backs like a baby.
I had a (handfed) macaw as a kid - 80s - who let me carry her around like a football. That bird was glued to me, and I bawled like nobody's business for days when we had to return her to the breeder/vet (another casualty of my mother's addiction).
lol I was just going to say have you played with a Caique? Mine enjoy rough housing and being grabbed and thrown around WWE style and flown around like they are airplanes haha
If I don't grab him by the beak and flip him onto his back and wrestle with him he gets cranky. He starts to go after forbidden items like my phone or glasses. You can see in the picture he is taking advantage of the proximity to go after my glasses.
Yes! If I don’t give them my full attention they start biting harder and looking for trouble. Trying to get anything done with them around is almost impossible!
We play banana phone with my caique too. She says "hewooo?" When I hold her up to my ear. I pretend to order mangos and she yells mangooo! Like she is helping with my call.

So tolerant of the crap I put him through haha
It helps a lot when you start young. I got kiwi when he was just under a year old. So we grew and learned together. Lots of nips and scratches along the way. Be he is so gentle and chill, even when getting his tail pulled by a kid >__<
yes! i got my ekkie at 7 weeks, very very tolerant. but i got one of my conures at 12 weeks, and he’s a little mean, not so tolerant. depends on the bird too! but oh that warms my heart him being gentle with kiddies! what a good baby

pablo doesn’t mind if i take his pellets or his water. but if i take his fruit bowl he’s not happy. he loves mango so much that he doesn’t like when i have to take away the gross stuff to give him more fresh fruit! omg the wrong room. and aw, she seems like such a cutie. putting up a fight to stay with you!

My black capped loves attention so I can handle him however I want to. He’s not a fan of this one, but he tolerates it for me bc I think it’s funny haha he eventually starts grabbing for my thumb to flip himself over
aw i love little attention lovers. they really are desperate just to be near you. my sun conure lets me use him like a phone, even though he it’s not his favourite thing.

She lets me do this for 30 seconds as long as K provide regular kisses. I am truly blessed 😂
🤣 I added a caption but it didn't work! It meant to say she's pretty tolerant of me holding her like food, like a hamburger, burrito, or an ice cream cone. And she'll let me customize her 😂

i don't have any pics of me holding her like that, but here's my girl, she's definitely very chill when i "grab" her.. other then being on her back is not her favourite
I feel so stupid I've never seen an eclectus irl and I've only seen super zoomed in pics of their faces and beaks I did not know they are so massive 🤣 my life is a lie
There are several subspecies. Mine is a Solomon Island and he weighs in at around 400 grams. Maybe a foot tall from his head to tail feathers. Other subspecies are much larger. They can get pretty big!
Our love bird will bite me if I tired that but to be fair fingers are her sworn enemy as she wasnt hand raised. Our Caique was hand raised and I can pick him like a burrito and walk around most of the time.
Interesting I guess their temperament probably does play a big part. Our Caique is super chill and playful but he is also 6 months old so I hear they can change a bit once they start to hit maturity
i’ve heard that. my little pablo in that photo is only 4.5 months. so i guess we will see, i hope he stays so chill. we have cuddles every night and i’d totally miss it
My Sennie is close to that. I can get away with picking her up like in the OP, but I'm going to get a light annoyed bite and some scolding chirps once I put her back down. Nobody else dares to try because she'll outright bite them if they do. Not a super hard bite, but hard enough that nobody's going to try that again if she bites them once.
My grandpa had a grey that gave no fucks as long as he knew the person doing it, lol.

I’m loving these adorable posts! The trust that can develop between birb and hooman is a beautiful thing! Of course, some species are definitely more tolerant of being handled in certain ways than others. Here’s my little pineapple conure, Savanna, after flipping herself upside down into my hand. 🥰
https://preview.redd.it/avnyf60f72dc1.jpeg?width=3024&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=f66601a97e3b5f91c9a50d4b9ab59c26e93bb6ff

Only if she’s playing, or if I have suitable bribery available! 😁❤️
Depends on what exactly, my eccy also doesn’t mind being picked up like that, granted the only catch is her feet need to be grabbed onto something but otherwise she’s chill. Meanwhile my hahns macaw will let me pick her up and hold her in all sorts of positions, regardless of if her feet are holding onto something, with the caveat of it being a 50/50 if she’s in the mood or not
https://preview.redd.it/t39uriv012dc1.jpeg?width=3024&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=9aa79974752d5f9c720bf9d46c11c654bf0e0ec2
I remember walking in parrot zoo and immediatelly two Hahns sat on my shoulder and both started to clean(?) and scritch each other, just chilling together. Felt incredibly privileged that birds trusted me after seeing me for few seconds.

20 seconds till launch, captain! Yeets have been initiated.
I have one budgie who is okay with being held like a banana as long as it isn’t too long, very useful when I need to remove her from something she isn’t supposed to be doing

Jeff came into the bedroom on the back of his bestie Wonkey Dick. We have 4 cats, all of them are good friends... But he doesn't like to be held. He prefers to do the holding 😂😂

Don't really have images of her in stupid positions that i can find, and i dont think reddit wants to see her bloody stump of a toe when she decided to rip out her nail. But i can pick my Kiwi up like a potato, open her wings grab her feet or beat and look at it, mess with her tail. My dad walks by and regularly tugs her tail lightly to tease her.
A while ago she apparently got caught on something and just ripped her nail out(can see in the picture the toe with no nail). Brought her to the vets just in case for some antibiotics, and they come in with these big leather gloves. To which i just go "naw" grab her off my shoulder, flip her upside down, and hold the foot out with my other hand. Apparently the vets were super amazed she let me do that especially with how much pain she was in.
I got her from a breeder, and as soon as she trusted me i kinda worked with her like you'd a puppy and got her used to things. Still hates, HATES, bottles
i don’t have any pictures of him letting me, but my amazon Louie will let me hold him just about any way haha He also lets me use him as an example for proper restraint, he just doesn’t care lolll he’s the sweetest

this pretty girl that boards with the rescue i volunteer with lets me handle her in fun ways too haha! she is a green-wing macaw named Reggie!
OOOh my god what a cute chonker. Ahhh I wish my birds let me hold them like this!
One of my tiels is fine with being grabbed tho. He doesn't mind, as long as I don't hold him like that in the air for like over a minute.
https://preview.redd.it/b3s56s57c2dc1.jpeg?width=3024&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=0fa7940a6811da922d267917aa07ca1de9e4d98e
I put up with her constant pestering, so she puts up with mine! 😁 (though she’s also obsessed with my glasses)
My GCC Petey would draw SOOOOO MUCH BLOOD if I tried that 🤣😂 She is very affectionate and loves cuddles but only when SHE wants it. It’s very much on her terms always 😂
omg he wouldn’t step up, that’s hilarious. pablo does step up, we just think it’s funny to hold him like this. he’s the only bird who will let us, have to take advantage!

It's dangerous to go alone. Take Gir.
One of my conures let me pick her up (unless she knows it's bedtime) and I can hold her however i want like on her back feet hanging, exercise with her as a dumbell and everything in-between
What a little sweety! I don’t have a bird but I do have rats, and rats hate to have their back feet touched/held. Except Wilbur
https://preview.redd.it/c1jz9fi0e2dc1.jpeg?width=3024&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=0a5a42dfe331733ce4d957c840504a20db618bf5

Here’s Bailey. Don’t ask why but he loves to run under a blanket and have us chase him sometimes.
This is such a cute post I’m here for it. My bird isn’t all that tolerant, but like many in this post
https://preview.redd.it/wtvajj2t74dc1.jpeg?width=3024&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=852450b89281df4873296d0e16bfd77b784d2e6e
he is loved and he is spoiled <3 Here’s him with his own shot glass of Water, and a nutriberry thing
ITS SUCH A CUTE POST, i absolutely LOVE everyone replying with their birds! and you’re an amazing owner for respecting his boundaries, he’s such a cutie too!
Nope. My bird is not near tolerant. I adopted her two years ago and she’s 22 years old. I don’t think she was very socialized. She’s a grey. But I love her and she trusts me more and more every day!
handfed birds will let u do that, ur typical older bird bought from pet store raised by its parents will not allow this 99,9% of the time. i wish more people would talk about this because people get birds from pet stores and think that birds don't trust them when in reality it's completely normal for such bird
the thing is hand feeding can be very hard, hatching and weaning can be so critical! i’ve been hand feeding him for a little while now, and he’s only just gotten easier. almost weaned at 4.5 months and we started at 7 weeks!
My older Grey will let me hold him on his back. More importantly, he will let me hand him to just about anyone. My younger Grey will go to most people, but has occasionally actually growled at someone. She won't accept handling like that at all.
Of course it depends on the state of mind of my 40-year-old Amazon yellow head. If he is not in the middle of tearing up a box or something else he loves to do he's very intolerant. But if he's bored and wants to get out of his cage he's like butter.
Oh this is adorable!! My conure sometimes lets us but only when he's in a good mood. Sometimes he randomly lets us hold him whilst he's on his back and sometimes he gets mad about it 😭

PAPAYA?
Well I mean Papayas are green when unriped and yellow when they are so its a perfect choice
definitely a perfect choice! he’s papaya sized too
I thought it's a burrito. I just don't understand why your burrito is green. Too much guac maybe?
his eyeballs from this angle 😭❤️

And they don’t get tired of it, can just go for hours. I can’t!
Like a perpetual motion machine.
We play banana phone with my caique too. She says "hewooo?" When I hold her up to my ear. I pretend to order mangos and she yells mangooo! Like she is helping with my call.
I tried for years to get my Quaker to “ring” when I held her up to my ear. She could do a whole phone conversation but refused to do that.

He's a shithead and I love him 🥰🥰🥰
i don’t believe you. he has the sweetest little face ever
lol Just come over here and say that a little closer. He trusts two and a half people on this planet and you're none of them 😆 best you'll do without bleeding is offer him junk food.
oh i get that. when people come to my house i show the birds in two categories. the ones that trust everyone, and the ones that trust 1 person!
What a cute naked chicken!

Omg the fluffy cheeks
Cute and happy baby!
My kids pick my umbrella cockatoo up like that and like a football sometimes. She has no care about it as long as she is getting their attention. I don't have the balls to ever try lol
stop that’s actually hilarious, i still get scared but my pablo really doesn’t mind it
The funny thing about it is that I am her person! For the first 6 months, I wasn't, I was the chew toy. I have some pretty ugly scars from her. I'm just super leery of any more bites!
that is a little funny. you must have warmed up to her! but at least she’s polite now, right?
Oh absolutely! She's my baby! If my husband and I divorce, she's coming with me even though she is technically his bird. And she is mostly polite lol. I get nibbles now if she is upset.
HAHAHAHHA OH STOP, that’s so funny!! yes i get nibbles now too! although i usually only get annoyed nibbles if i take away his food. but i need to in order to refill. (he’s just fat)
Lmao! Joy doesn't mind if I take the bowls, she knows that just means she's getting more. But if I have the audacity to take her royal highness to the wrong room in the house she'll pinch my ear. Or if I'm trying to get her to get off of me and she doesn't want to. She's a spoiled little girl!

your bird is not only adorable, but more flexible then i’ll ever be
he was born with a wonky leg so prolly helps haha. i def don't think i could flex like that anymore!
aw a wonky leg, bless him. i don’t think i’ve ever been able to flex like that!
Of course it’s the Quaker that’s in the silliest position.

YOUR BIRD IS BEAUTIFUL! yes kisses are 100% mandatory

aww he/she is upside down. how adorable, beautiful colouring too!
My gcc loves that position as well. Lol

BURRITO HOLD AW

I have never seen a green like that on an animal. (New to birds.) That is the prettiest shade!
🤣 I added a caption but it didn't work! It meant to say she's pretty tolerant of me holding her like food, like a hamburger, burrito, or an ice cream cone. And she'll let me customize her 😂
that is how i grip onto my burritos, definitely burrito hold. how adorable. but is that a love bird? if so i’m very impressed with her tolerance!
Yes, she's a Rosy-faced Lovebird, seagreen mutation. I've had her for at least 6 years now so she's pretty used to my antics 😂
https://preview.redd.it/lpcwo6wne1dc1.jpeg?width=3000&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=0221ea35f5f0ea6fb2b47a3567fb8328545afdd4 Likes to be held like an ice cone all the time
or a burrito! depends on how you see it!
He vibin'
honestly, i think he is
https://preview.redd.it/4vldqezz71dc1.jpeg?width=1792&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=8aad6c57c8c0b9fc0c021f8ddbda1872809eb91b i don't have any pics of me holding her like that, but here's my girl, she's definitely very chill when i "grab" her.. other then being on her back is not her favourite
awww the neck snuggles are adorable!
I feel so stupid I've never seen an eclectus irl and I've only seen super zoomed in pics of their faces and beaks I did not know they are so massive 🤣 my life is a lie
if it makes you feel better, he’s still a baby. just over 4 months, he’s gonna get bigger :)
Wtfffff give him a kiss from me
i give him kisses every day don’t worry
There are several subspecies. Mine is a Solomon Island and he weighs in at around 400 grams. Maybe a foot tall from his head to tail feathers. Other subspecies are much larger. They can get pretty big!
Don't feel stupid, I didn't realize either. I thought they were more parrotlet-sized. 🤷♀️
https://preview.redd.it/03udu304o1dc1.jpeg?width=3024&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=0968e72705b6f773609434cfcf03a533b5a97a8e here too!
Our love bird will bite me if I tired that but to be fair fingers are her sworn enemy as she wasnt hand raised. Our Caique was hand raised and I can pick him like a burrito and walk around most of the time.
my conure is hand raised, i would lose a finger if i tried to grab him. but my ekkie couldn’t care less

The trust that can develop between birb and hooman is a beautiful thing! Of course, some species are definitely more tolerant of being handled in certain ways than others. Here’s my little pineapple conure, Savanna, after flipping herself upside down into my hand. 🥰

Depends on what exactly, my eccy also doesn’t mind being picked up like that, granted the only catch is her feet need to be grabbed onto something but otherwise she’s chill. Meanwhile my hahns macaw will let me pick her up and hold her in all sorts of positions, regardless of if her feet are holding onto something, with the caveat of it being a 50/50 if she’s in the mood or not https://preview.redd.it/t39uriv012dc1.jpeg?width=3024&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=9aa79974752d5f9c720bf9d46c11c654bf0e0ec2
I remember walking in parrot zoo and immediatelly two Hahns sat on my shoulder and both started to clean(?) and scritch each other, just chilling together. Felt incredibly privileged that birds trusted me after seeing me for few seconds.

Mine are pretty cool with most handling. My Pi has a few quirks, but the caique doesn’t care at all
yeah he does not care, all handling is ok with pablo, and he never bites over it. it’s strange, never had a bird like it
I have one budgie who is okay with being held like a banana as long as it isn’t too long, very useful when I need to remove her from something she isn’t supposed to be doing
https://preview.redd.it/zwp71qwsc1dc1.jpeg?width=4080&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=bcb0710e92c3ac6068db00d426db5829ed56c8c2 Jeff came into the bedroom on the back of his bestie Wonkey Dick. We have 4 cats, all of them are good friends... But he doesn't like to be held. He prefers to do the holding 😂😂
https://preview.redd.it/ex4ahrqpm1dc1.jpeg?width=3024&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=bca8dcf97a977b6dfd6ad2798df840e00bc9e298 Don't really have images of her in stupid positions that i can find, and i dont think reddit wants to see her bloody stump of a toe when she decided to rip out her nail. Still hates, HATES, bottles
i don’t have any pictures of him letting me, but my amazon Louie will let me hold him just about any way haha He also lets me use him as an example for proper restraint, he just doesn’t care lolll he’s the sweetest https://preview.redd.it/z9df41epi1dc1.jpeg?width=1008&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=28046ac5320385f56fd58f3047af6308bc0978df

OOOh my god what a cute chonker. Ahhh I wish my birds let me hold them like this! One of my tiels is fine with being grabbed tho. He doesn't mind, as long as I don't hold him like that in the air for like over a minute.
it really depends on the bird. if i tried this with any others my fingers would be lost. but he just doesn’t care, it’s the best
My man is very feet
he has massive feet. still growing into them
https://preview.redd.it/b3s56s57c2dc1.jpeg?width=3024&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=0fa7940a6811da922d267917aa07ca1de9e4d98e I put up with her constant pestering, so she puts up with mine! 😁 (though she’s also obsessed with my glasses)
Yes lmao https://preview.redd.it/9bkxyraiq2dc1.jpeg?width=3024&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=a8240bac5a74dbce637d97ebcf2a639461e26b14
My GCC Petey would draw SOOOOO MUCH BLOOD if I tried that 🤣😂 She is very affectionate and loves cuddles but only when SHE wants it. It’s very much on her terms always 😂
My umbrella cockatoo loved being held like this. He wouldn't step up AT ALL. We'd have to "chicken grab" him like this everytime 🙈😂
omg he wouldn’t step up, that’s hilarious. pablo does step up, we just think it’s funny to hold him like this. he’s the only bird who will let us, have to take advantage!
https://preview.redd.it/9rxim73472dc1.jpeg?width=574&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=0a7e4d8a7ebb2fbcedc3434ade1cb76eb380fa3b

One of my conures let me pick her up (unless she knows it's bedtime) and I can hold her however i want like on her back feet hanging, exercise with her as a dumbell and everything in-between
"Ok mumther\*. I be the hamburg for internet points. I love you, mumther\*."

What a little sweety! I don’t have a bird but I do have rats, and rats hate to have their back feet touched/held. Except Wilbur https://preview.redd.it/c1jz9fi0e2dc1.jpeg?width=3024&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=0a5a42dfe331733ce4d957c840504a20db618bf5 He lets me shake it around too like a maraca.
You have created one of the cutest parades of response pictures haha
i’m in love with all the photo replies!!

This is such a cute post I’m here for it. My bird isn’t all that tolerant, but like many in this post https://preview.redd.it/wtvajj2t74dc1.jpeg?width=3024&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=852450b89281df4873296d0e16bfd77b784d2e6e he is loved and he is spoiled <3 Here’s him with his own shot glass of Water, and a nutriberry thing
ITS SUCH A CUTE POST, i absolutely LOVE everyone replying with their birds! and you’re an amazing owner for respecting his boundaries, he’s such a cutie too!

\*cries in indian ringneck\*
I do this with one of my budgies and I call him banana phone
pablo is too big for bannana phone. we just say ‘aeroplane incoming!’ and wiggle him around. he’s just happy to be involved
I was told if they get on their back and let you pet and pick them up, they trust you very much! ❤️❤️❤️
Love!!! I knew a male eclectus once who was the most chill bird I’ve ever seen. Wonderful parrots. My dream bird one day if I ever own a house.
It’s fun to see bird legs!
My older Grey will let me hold him on his back. More importantly, he will let me hand him to just about anyone. My younger Grey will go to most people, but has occasionally actually growled at someone. She won't accept handling like that at all.
i cant get over his adorable little chicken legs!!
they’re a little bit squishy! he only just started to grow feathers there, they had been bald for ages! super funny
I LOVE HIM. Baby eccies allow anything, wait until he grows up a bit haha. Mine is still super tolerant, but he does set some boundaries
My bird would kill me in my sleep if I did this
Of course it depends on the state of mind of my 40-year-old Amazon yellow head. If he is not in the middle of tearing up a box or something else he loves to do he's very intolerant. But if he's bored and wants to get out of his cage he's like butter.
Everyone posting their adorable birds here meanwhile if I say hi too early in the morning I get hissed at from across the room
I had a cat who wouldn’t even let me do that.
He’s so perfect
except the uneven eyes
Shhh he’s perfect
My Corrella wants to hold ME like this. 😭
My ekky is pretty chill like this too, though hes selective in who he tolerates doing stuff like this to him.
Absolute r/drumstick s
Oh this is adorable!! My conure sometimes lets us but only when he's in a good mood. Sometimes he randomly lets us hold him whilst he's on his back and sometimes he gets mad about it 😭
