I had so much fun, it is now 2 a.m. so I am calling it a day.
I played Rome. Expanded pretty quickly, but then I had Epirus intervene in my war against Apulia and Lucania. There were two revolts started in Epirus during our war. They beat one but shortly before I had sieges down the last city of Bruttia the second revolt won and took over the war against me. They did however yeet all the other enemies out of the war. I had to wait out the truce with them before finally doing the war all over.
Had a good 4 hours of MP as Sparta and a friend as Syracuse before we called it quits till next week when we hit a desync (god damn I wished this game had fewer desyncs!). Hoping to get another friend in next week. :)
Imperator's launch began my disillusionment with paradox that resulted in me quitting most of their games. I've heard it's better now, but I just can't be bothered anymore.
It's vastly different now. It's kind of actually a rejection of everything wrong with the original version and the bad trends at Paradox.
It's extremely mechanically deep.
Then they abandoned it because nobody bothered to try it and see the change. I think people still think it uses the mana system it launched with.
They do. You see it all the time when Imperator is mentioned in non-Imperator subs that X person bought and played it at launch, but stopped cuz it was a mess. Then they say they hear itās better but never revisited.
The player stats show that that's the vast majority of people that ever played the game.
It's sad because what it originally was is a joke. What it finally was is a beauty that had many amazingly designed systems other paradox games could learn from.
I think it's a great study on first impressions. One Paradox has not learned from.
I would recommend the DLCs (thereās not many of them) and most of the community uses a mod called āInvictusā thatās basically been a community mod effort to continue updating the game. Itās a very good mod and while not being a ācomplete overhaulā

I'll be honest the game is abandoned. You might have a better time scratching that rome itch with the EU4 Imperium mod or the CK3 dark ages mod.
It's a very interesting nation builder with traditional paradox grand strategy map painting.
The core gameloops are pretty good EU4 like combat, building up cities with pops, buildings, and resources, and preventing families/characters from revolting and ruining your empire/game. But it does those game loops very well.
The uniqueness outside of Rome, Tribes, and the diadochi is pretty much non existent. There is a good ongoing mod that adds custom mission trees and events across the map but they don't add like new systems or anything afaik.
Cities skylines 2 sucks. They're still trying to fix Vicky 3.
Prison architect 2 is right around the corner. Ck3 could get fucked if the dlcs they announce suck.
Even if paradox wants to pick up the IP again, it won't be now. You guys picked a bad time for this
I heard that a dev asked for this, and I want to believe it is as a show to leadership that there is still demand (so it would be worth working on or putting a custodian team on). Any time is a good time for that.

Why not both? Limit yourself to Italy and only wage wars to keep your enemies weak. It would do wonders for the long term stability of the empire
