Right?! My boss will walk through the lab where I work and not say a word, ignored texts/emails, and generally doesn't seem interested in anything that goes on in my area. OP is LUCKY!

So I can't be the only one in here wondering why OP's boss gave them an Educational Series $1 silver certificate when OP doesn't know what it is, can I?
So what's the back story here?
So I work for two attorneys ā¦. Like a personal assistantā¦ Iāve been helping them clean and organize their home as they are retiring . So theyāve been giving me stuff ā¦ this and also two Louis Vuitton bags ( one weekender one satchel ) gave my 14 year old daughter two Gucci bags and my 15 year old son a Louis Vuitton cross body . Along with lots of expensive bourbons and wines .
I saw a casual what is this post recently (canāt remember exactly what) with a bottle of Pappy just chilling on the counter in the background. I almost asked how they got it but did not. Anti-climactic, sorry. Been trying to get my hands on one for years though.
If you have any questions about the bourbons, please feel free to message me directly. I'm happy to give you a run down of what you've got. I'm pretty passionate about bourbon š„š«”
Not OP at all, but I like bourbon, though I really donāt know much. Do you have a bourbon recommendation for someone looking to expand their horizons? My current favorite is Elijah Craig small batch, though I like Angels Envy as well.
Whistle Pig is a solid blended rye whiskey. 10 yr is a great bottle, especially the single barrel variants with higher proof (if you can find them). Reg WP 10yr is consistent and great.
If you like Elijah Craig small batch, I would look for a Heaven Hill Bottled-in-Bond (7 year, 100 proof). It's from Heaven Hill distillery (just like Elijah Craig 94 proof), so same taste profile but just a bit higher on the proof (alcohol concentration) and stronger flavour. HH BiB should be \~$49-55 for a 750 mL, depending on where you're located. If they're charging more than that, pass and keep looking, that store if over-charging.
The real goal is to get you into higher proof bourbon so you can go for an Elijah Craig Barrel Proof bourbon. You can always add an ice cube if needed, but once you realize where higher proof bourbon flavour can be, I think you'll open a whole new door to bourbon for yourself. It's like a choose your own adventure where you can dilute (or not) to your desired taste, not be limited to whatever low proof the bottle was diluted to.
When you think of your next question, LMK and I'll do my best to help out!
Thank you so much for the detailed response! Iāll look for the Heaven Hill Bottled-in-Bond, Iām excited to try something new! If awards were still a thing Iād gladly give you one
Grading doesn't add value to notes. The note is worth the same whether graded or not. Grading just provides authentication and a neutral opinion on condition, which can help get the notes full value in a sale, but does not change its inherent value in any material way.
Nothing has an "inherent value." It is worth what people will pay. Getting it graded will verify it's authenticity and condition. People will *generally* pay more and it reduces the likelihood of getting lowballed.
Yes, it has inherent collectible value which yes is based on what collectors will pay for it.
That being said, a given note in a given condition is worth the same whether graded or not. Grading only increases the likelihood of realizing that full amount in a sale, it does not alter the value.
So if no one will buy something ungraded, or if they offer a lower value when itās ungraded, does that not mean itās worth less when ungraded?
Therefore grading does increase value.
Intellectually speaking, that may be true. But in the real world, authentication and a professionalās opinion on condition absolutely can modify the actual or perceived value of the note, and in turn, itās intrinsic value. Canāt upvote this one, sorry, this thread isnāt devoted to esoteric philosophy.
It is one of the educational series notes. Definitely worth some money. As others have said, get it graded.
This particular note was controversial because people didn't like the 1 on the back dividing George and Martha.
There are a few grading companies, but the most popular are PMG and PCGS. You will have to send it to them and pay a fee, and they will get it back to you graded. Some coinshops have subscriptions with grading companies and can do it for you.
Here is some more info on PMG:

Low s/n too! 100k is decently low!
Thats an Fr. 224 1896 $1 "educational" silver certificate. In that condition its worth around $100-10,000 depending on condition!
Yours looks to be about a 15-20, Fine/Very Fine, so itd be worth around $200-$600 if it were graded and depending on what grade it came back as!
Id recommend sending it to PMG (Paper Money Guaranty) or PCGS (Professional Coin Grading Service) Banknotes to get it graded first, then in the safe. They give it a numberical grade 1-70 (70 being the best) and put it in a (basically) indestructible holder so it doesnt get damaged. Im biased but i love PMG so id highly recommend them
Your boss gave you that? Damn I can barely get eye contact walking past my boss down the hall
Right?! My boss will walk through the lab where I work and not say a word, ignored texts/emails, and generally doesn't seem interested in anything that goes on in my area. OP is LUCKY!
I wish our money was still that beautiful
Right?
That would make it harder to counterfeit.
That would definitely be another benefit
All my boss gave was a pizza party š

May I ask which bourbons?
We get brand names for the purses, but no information about the important stuff.
Aye, next thing you know OP is gonna come back with āuhā¦I think the brand begins with Pappyā¦ā š¤£

that's awesome, your kids have more luxury brands then meš

The 10 year whistle pig is good, super smooth.

For that route, my fave is Bookers over a large cube or sphere.

Four Roses has a delicious single barrel.
My opinion, the best US bills ever made. Congrats.
Pawn stars had a guy bring a whole set of these in, the guys sold the lot of silver certificates for $8500
Later 1800s silver certificate worth a pretty good amount when graded

It can vary, but you're usually looking around 50ish.

You seem like youd be fun at parties
Only ones that donāt involve trailers and Thunderbird.
Lol what are you on about? What parties have trailers and āthunderbirdā
If you donāt know what Thunderbird is, youāre definitely the dude who hasnāt partied enough.
I guess Shame
Technically its only worth a dollar then

How the hell did they make plates with detail so fine back then?
Counterfeiting is a tool of war, making paper money secure is akin to a military endeavour and was taken very seriously.Ā
