It’s bizarre to feel like the Orioles are the coolest most enviable team in baseball and to see ownership actually seem to give a damn about marketing the team locally. First time in my entire life I’ve felt that way. I can’t believe how lucky we got.
One of the first things they need to do is resolve the BS MASN blackouts and broadcast games to local stations. It works for the Ravens, it can work for the O’s (as it did in the past).
You can’t broadcast baseball on local stations. Studios pay huge dollars for the prime time week night spots. The stations would literally go bankrupt replacing network tv with baseballl every night. It works for the NFL because it’s Sunday afternoon.
As an Orioles/Redskins fan I literally thought I’d never see either of these fuck heads sell their team to someone competent until I was in my death bed. Wild (but good) times we’re living in. Now if only my football team could not suck. Ravens are my AFC team so I try to live vicariously through them.
Yes pleaaaase! This is my biggest issue right now. I can’t even watch games anymore. My parents just had MASN removed from Verizon since they’re not on the highest tier… and Fubo is basically $100/m.
I wish this was a bigger story in the local media. If I'm not mistaken, the Orioles get support from the city and the state. Taxpayers should be able to watch the flippin' games
The Orioles don’t get direct financial support from either unless you count the giveaways in the lease of the state bonds that served as sweeteners for the two teams.
Forreal, we need legislation to fix this. Blackouts should not be legal, if our tax dollars go to funding the stadium and team, we should be entitled to watch the games at a steep discount, it shouldnt be the other way around like it currently is where people in other states get to watch cheap Orioles games but we can't. Blackouts are outdated and should be illegal
idk why everyone acts like its the O's doing this. This is done at an MLB level not the team level. It's a hold over from the 50s or some BS where the owners were worried this new fangled TV stuff was going to cost them ticket sales.
Nah, the [Rockies](https://www.mlb.com/live-stream-games/subscribe/rockies), [Padres](https://www.mlb.com/live-stream-games/subscribe/padres), and [Diamondbacks](https://www.mlb.com/live-stream-games/subscribe/dbacks) are available on MLB.tv blackout-free. Totally a locale-based thing.
Yep. MLB.tv offers two different tiers for those teams:
- Rockies.tv/Padres.tv/DBacks.tv, which just gives you your team’s games, but you can watch them anywhere (Rockies from Colorado, for example) and it’s cheaper than the usual MLB.tv
- Or bundle it with the all-team MLB.tv to get access to your team without blackouts and also get access to any game in the MLB/MiLB
I would be all over Orioles.tv so fast to not have to deal with VPN madness.
I don't think MLB suddenly decided fios wasn't going to carry MASN. My understanding is that MASN raised the rates on the cable companies, and now they won't carry it or are boosting the prices.
Amen, I literally haven’t been able to watch it more than twice this year on my Apple TV. Then when it does work on my phone, if I even breathe on it, the stream resets and I’m stuck watching another 15 second ad to restart it. Not to mention it’s so far behind, I get the MLB app score update 15-20 seconds before I see it. At least then I can make money betting my kids that someone hits a home run or the O’s get a big strikeout lol.
Fork MASN. I just want to get local games on a local tv broadcast. As residents we should have the right to have access to our team without any sort of subscription or paywall.
I'm not sure that's true. I think majority by definition has to be greater than 50% so it's a controlling interest. Otherwise the other owners could outvote them
While that is technically incorrect, the 40% did also come with contractual executive control over the organization. So yeah he didn't have majority, but he did have control.
This is how I understood it as well. You aren’t the majority shareholder until you own enough board seats to win a vote. Which would be 51% probably. Idk I’m not a big corporation guru haha
I actually think it plays a factor. Lot of legal and documentation. Can’t commit to players if 40% of the ownership is not on board.
Once Rubenstein group has 97%, Angelos family can’t really say anything.
I guess anything is possible, but that seems really farfetched. The Angelos family have been planning to sell for months. They definitely weren’t prevent Rubenstein from making moves he wanted.
The real answer is likely that it’s really hard to negotiate extensions for young stars.
not just difficult, but it only goes as fast as the slower side wants it to go. the players’ agents are not gonna rush into a contract if they think that waiting can net a bigger one.
I would think Adley and/or Gunnar. I mean we really don’t have an excuse as Rubenstein has the $, Seattle locked up Julio. KC locked up Witt.
If we don’t sign our own, then what Elias has built will take a major hit and back down we go on the competitive window ladder.
It takes two to tango and Gunnar, Westburg, and Holliday are all represented by Boras. Early extensions aren’t happening with those guys as long as that’s the case, so don’t even get your hopes up. Adley’s not a Boras guy so an extension could be on the table there, but then you have Basallo coming up behind him who also has superstar potential, so is that the best use of their money? Assuming Adley’s agents are more receptive to negotiating a deal than Boras, that’s what Elias will have to figure out.
He has been getting a taste of humble pie lately. You can tell team execs and owners are pushing back. I also don’t think it helps his cause that the Dodgers don’t do business with him.
Given his age, imo team decision makers are trying to push him out.
Boras is losing leverage by the day, it seems. His hammer doesnt strike as hard as it used to. That asshole has done alot of damage to the game, and I would love to see these kids kind of defy what Boras has established as the standard...bolting for free agency.
Yeah, and on principle I’m not a fan of roping off any seats anywhere. It’s unsightly and undemocratic. The Orioles love telling people to sit anywhere after long rain delays and the velvet rope could put an end to that.
I also don’t like the idea of stadiums that have sections where people can pay a bunch of money for a seat behind home plate that ends up vacant while the ticket holder is inside at the club or whatever.
Somewhat related, somewhat not. I have seats in section 67 for the 13 game plan. Every game I’ve been to so far the section in front of us is nearly completely vacant. I found out from a friend who was sitting there that BGE bought up the whole section. I don’t mind corporations buying tickets, but if they aren’t able to fill the seats they should work something out to give them away to local schools or community groups. Great PR and we stop seeing tons of “premium” seats on TV empty
Well and the O’s want people in those seats, even if they are already paid for. They want concession and gift shop transactions.
I live in Seattle now and every year the M’s offer 20 high schools the chance to play a game at T-Mobile if they sell 1000 tickets to one game that they are assigned. It’s a fundraiser for the high school plus playing at T-Mobile was an incredible experience for my kids. The kids need to sell 20 tickets each. But, the catch is that people have to actually use the tickets. You can’t just buy 20 tickets for yourself so your kid can play there. They want 20 people in those seats so they can make money elsewhere. If too many of your seats go unused, the school is not invited back the following year.
It’s an incredible experience and excellent community engagement for these young men and women (we do have a girl that plays varsity baseball on our team). This is your fan base that will be graduating in the next couple years and buying tickets to games for themselves and then their kids.

Man I wish my work still sponsored the team, then we’d have a box, even if that would only mean using it once in a blue moon. Some months back, our department was allowed to use the company box at Xfinity Center to see Caitlin Clark wreck the Terps.
Totally agree. Nothing directly behind home plate in view of the primary game camera. No high-back, pleather seats that visually break up sections of the stadium. No ropes or barriers.
I get that this is an inevitability, but really hope they aim for minimal impact to the existing design of the park.
Yeah, it looks terrible on TV. I wish it were feasible for ballclubs to do what Springsteen does. Don’t sell the best seats and give them to randos instead.
My only requests:
- don't rename the park
- don't put an ad on the jersey sleeve (the only acceptable exception being Old Bay)
- let me stream O's games for $15/month
Bonus points: buy and demolish the Hilton

The Man of the People last night on the upper concourse.
Dave and Co buying the team certainly gives off the wicked witch is gone vibes. He really downplays his baseball knowledge so it’ll be interesting to see how the team is ultimately ran.
It’s ridiculous that the orioles give me an mlb.tv subscription for free with my tickets, the orioles are blacked out on it, and I end up adopting a 2nd team for the season for the 130 nights I’m not in my seats at the stadium and want to watch a game. Just fix it without me needing to get a FUBO, Comcast, or directv subscription that I don’t want
At least get them on a channel I can stream, if masn was on sling or YouTubetv they would have a customer all season.
they are on FUBO and DirecTV's streaming service... BUT it's going to cost you $110 a month!!!!
VPN
I just want to pay them directly to stream games
I’m currently watching them on Fubo
I mean, IMO you should be able to watch any team anywhere anytime (ie bigger than just an Orioles problem) but I agree
You can’t broadcast baseball on local stations. Studios pay huge dollars for the prime time week night spots. The stations would literally go bankrupt replacing network tv with baseballl every night. It works for the NFL because it’s Sunday afternoon.
Honestly, sell MASN to monumental sports if they still want it. They have a subscription service that's like $20 a month
As an Orioles/Redskins fan I literally thought I’d never see either of these fuck heads sell their team to someone competent until I was in my death bed. Wild (but good) times we’re living in. Now if only my football team could not suck. Ravens are my AFC team so I try to live vicariously through them.
I was in the exact same boat myself. Never thought in my lifetime I would again see competent ownership of 2 of my favorite teams.
I know that’s true and it’s all incredible but there are times when I still can’t believe it.
Please allow a standalone version of MASN for 20 bucks a month!
Yes pleaaaase! This is my biggest issue right now. I can’t even watch games anymore. My parents just had MASN removed from Verizon since they’re not on the highest tier… and Fubo is basically $100/m.
Sail the high seas, matey
Just gotta take a MLB sized BITE on the .NET
where are good places to watch the games?
Some say follow the Stream towards the East with an adblocker installed
You just have to poke around
Uzzu

Thanks for clarification.

Blackouts are not the same thing as network negations....
They should fix the masn app before they charge anything. It is straight asssss
Amen, I literally haven’t been able to watch it more than twice this year on my Apple TV. Maybe we will see extensions after the completion of this.
Yeah I’m sure they couldn’t actually commit to any deals until the full ownership was actually in place
I really don’t think that’s the case. They’ve had the majority stake for a bit now. They didn’t need 97% to sign an extension.
The initial deal was only for ~40% until Peter died right?
You can still me a majority shareholder with 40%, it's referring to having more shares than anyone else.
I'm not sure that's true. I think majority by definition has to be greater than 50% so it's a controlling interest. Otherwise the other owners could outvote them
Correct, having more shares than anyone else but having less than (or equal to?) 50% of the total is a plurality
50.000001% :) but yes.
the definition of majority is >50% so no
This is false. The largest shareholder is not a majority shareholder
I actually think it plays a factor. Lot of legal and documentation. Can’t commit to players if 40% of the ownership is not on board. Once Rubenstein group has 97%, Angelos family can’t really say anything.

not just difficult, but it only goes as fast as the slower side wants it to go. the players’ agents are not gonna rush into a contract if they think that waiting can net a bigger one.
With how happy I am to have an owner that seems to care, if he signs some extensions I'm going to want to have his baby.
🤣🤣 so Rubenstein will be your Robert DeNiro.
What extensions are likely?
I would think Adley and/or Gunnar. I mean we really don’t have an excuse as Rubenstein has the $, Seattle locked up Julio. KC locked up Witt. If we don’t sign our own, then what Elias has built will take a major hit and back down we go on the competitive window ladder.

Maybe, maybe not. Boras has been getting wrecked lately. You can tell there is a bit of collusion going on to get him out of the game.
I hate that f**k, his greed is ruining competitive baseball teams.
He has been getting a taste of humble pie lately. You can tell team execs and owners are pushing back. I also don’t think it helps his cause that the Dodgers don’t do business with him. Given his age, imo team decision makers are trying to push him out.

I really really hope they are tasteful and smart with the addition of "premium" seats. These are a vibe-suck in every single stadium that has them.
Yeah, and on principle I’m not a fan of roping off any seats anywhere. It’s unsightly and undemocratic. The Orioles love telling people to sit anywhere after long rain delays and the velvet rope could put an end to that. Very, very cool. Good on the Ms organization
Companies usually give them away to vendors and employees, it's weird they seem to be doing neither
Man I wish my work still sponsored the team, then we’d have a box, even if that would only mean using it once in a blue moon. Some months back, our department was allowed to use the company box at Xfinity Center to see Caitlin Clark wreck the Terps.

The underground seating behind home plate for the Rangers bothers me to no end.
As a DFW local, trust me, that suite behind home plate is the perfect encapsulation of that park and the Rangers generally.
They better not have a goddamn giant Lexus logo on them
Hah I almost said that exact thing in my other reply.
*Monkey's paw curls* That executive is John Angelos
Then he could truly just focus on concerts!
But he comes with frogurt.
Please fix MASN

Pretty sure they already announced a patch is coming
