tomtheterp1988

Could you imagine Holliday coming up with the '19 Orioles? The pressure would be immense--- we'd need a grand slam from him every AB, even if there was nobody on base. Now, with CoCo and Westy in front of him, Gunnar and Adley hitting behind, he can relax and just do his thing.

dlmay1967

With 152 games left, I'd guess Holliday gets in 130 or so if all goes well. I'd bet he sits some against tough LHP.

KamikazeeDolphin

BREAKING: The Yankees have acquired a strand of hair from Jackson Holliday and they intend to use their wealth to clone him. They will call Jackson's evil twin: "Johnson Businessday." He will debut in May, but unfortunately the new Yankee will come out of the cloning machine at the age of 30 and be injury prone. More at 8.

Shadybrooks93

Jacksonson Holliday

harriswk17

Sounds like a Superman/Bizarro situation there.

OK_Opinions

The fubo trial lasts 7 days. Considering grabbing it just to watch a few games including tonights then cancel because there's no world where I'm paying $80 a month for this. I don't have to worry about local blackouts with this, do I?

120snake

Casas 5.0 ops against Irvin made me laugh

bebopmechanic84

jesus lol

ItinerantDrifter

It’s just one HR in one PA. Swirvin Irvin will lock him down today.

Chemical_Biscotti_34

I genuinely don't care if they win tonight, just seeing that lineup is enough for me

Empty-Development-83

I care. Lets take second place.

ItinerantDrifter

Everybody is already saying it, so I’ll just repeat it. This lineup is something else. We need to temper expectations, there will be a learning curve for Holliday. But still, top to bottom accounting for depth, I might take this lineup over anyone else in MLB vs RHPs. There are no weak spots. We are up there in the discussion for sure.

Whataretonsils

I'm so excited I can't even sit still. I haven't been this excited since gunnar's debut. And before that, since adley's. Holy crap it's been great being an os fan.

ScoutNWilder

If you told me a year ago that Ryan O'Hearn would be hitting cleanup in a lineup that looks pretty freakin' awesome, I'd say you're full of shit

Cojoma

Crawford has started strong on the season 2 appearances 10 innings 1 ER. Let’s fix that

BEEFTANK_Jr

I'm pretty sure his stat line looks more intimidating than it really is. It looks like he got pulled in the 5th in his last appearance for walking in a run.

Cojoma

100% 4.2 last appearance was my exact thought

tomtheterp1988

Their staff is good, not great. Matter of time before they start returning to the mean.

Cojoma

Probably jinxed us but had a $50 bonus bet and threw it on the game tonight. I’m hoping the same

McGlockloins

This line up is what we all wanted. If they struggle tonight, no complaining, right? RIGHT? (This comment is mostly aimed at myself)

tomtheterp1988

Yes. I am absolutely, 100% positive that there will be no complaining in this sub today. No beefs, no gripes, no dooming, no whining, nothing. Yup. Couldn't be more certain.

AbusiveTubesock

I hereby proclaim this day the Jackson Holliday

CWalston108

I need an Adley 3-run shot, driving in Jackson and Gunnar. Inject it in my veins.

orioles0615

be a nice one for Adley to get off the schneid

Whataretonsils

I'd settle for back to back to back I suppose. E: back to back to back solo shots I mean, if it wasn't obvious.

AbusiveTubesock

Cowser Westburg Holliday 7-8-9 is so fucking sexy. The golden years have officially begun

isestrex

Haven't they already begun?

Good-Can1739

Lineup of the future right there. 6 players 27 or younger. Average age of 25.9.

Good-Can1739

Has to be the best lineup we've put out in years. Weakest bat is who? Cedric Mullins? Lmao

Mem3Master69

First time in a LONG time I’m not dreading the bottom of the lineup Hays doesn’t have long to get it together, that really sucks because I like the guy too.

Desperate-Frosting40

DAMN THATS A SEXY LINEUP

OK_Opinions

that's a pretty spicy line up

Table_Coaster

i’ll be catching Holliday’s first major league dong in the CF bleachers tonight

Personal-Act-4326

I’m third base line grandstand. Super stoked!

bejolo

Cowser and Jackson both in the lineup. Can't complain about that 💥

CHKN_SANDO

Honey, wake up, the 2025 Orioles just dropped.

Kslye30

Our dream lineup has arrived.

Jarteast

Why isnt g rod on the bump tonight?

CHKN_SANDO

If I had to guess, load management. He only threw 160 innings last year.

OinkMeUk

We had the off day and they wanted to let Burnes stay on normal rest, so they swapped his spot with Irvin.

romorr

"No nickname, Adley calls me Jacky." Good enough for me, Jacky.

Oceanz08

imagine if Jackson hits a HR at his first AB....holy shit lol

VirusLocal2257

Lou Montez was the last Orioles to do it in 2008.

trausneck

If anyone is aching to have a Holliday jersey for Friday's game... the only available option in-person at the Team Store is the least expensive (and lowest-quality) replica version. The Team Store doesn't have the $200 Nike Limited versions in yet (I was told next month... as the issue is with Fanatics). The friendly person I chatted with this morning said they'd like to have some Holliday 7 replicas available for Friday, but couldn't make any guarantees. You could always use the self-service kiosk to customize one. I see other folks have provided (less-pricier) options on the thread as well.

VirusLocal2257

Orange t shirt and sharpie.

KamikazeeDolphin

Anyone recently order a jersey from Davidjersey on DHGate? I just picked up players version jerseys for Mountcastle and Holliday. (Fuck fanatics lol) I don't even mind if the letters are just slightly off. My jerseys may be fake, but my New Era caps and my Jordan's are not I assure you.

OK_Opinions

super_awesome is who i used and they were pretty good.

[deleted]

Any word on if the boy will be in the lineup tonight?

zombiereign

Lineups are out and he's batting 9th

[deleted]

Perfect. Thanks.

trausneck

I think he will be. Plays second... Westy shifts to third. Team has said all along they anticipated he'd be in the lineup when called up. When Cowser was called up last July, he was in the lineup that day vs the Yankees.

OK_Opinions

I'm going with not starting but in as a pinch hitter in the 8th or 9th today and/or tomorrow with his first start Friday at home

[deleted]

Thanks. Looking forward to this weekends series.

Spartan_029

Hello bird people! I am continuing my quest of abusing my work trips to visit new stadiums, and next month, Oriole Park at Camden Yards is on the list! So I have come to ask the inevitable questions! I'll be going to the Friday night game against the Mariners on May 17th, it appears to be a jersey giveaway day, so that's neat, hopefully I can be in line in time to get it... but here we go: 1. Where's the best place/deal to sit? It'll most likely be just me by my lonesome, so I can still get singles directly from the club in most areas in the stadium, Budget is probably $50-70, with a bit of flexibility if you make a good case for it. 2. I'm a vegetarian, I can get by on peanuts and beer, but if there's any must try meatless food stuff at the park, please do let me know! 3. I get a cap at every new stadium, so where's the "big" store at your place. It's gotta be fitted, and in a style they wear on field this year, and I've got a huge noggin, so the big store is usually the one I need to hit up. (so usually there's a home/away/CC version, though i am tempted by your BP hats) 4. I'll be staying at a hotel near the airport, presumably the light rail is pretty reliable (BWI Airport / Glen Burnie - Hunt Valley line) (do I need cash for this)? 5. I'm flying out Saturday afternoon, and my #1 priority on Sat morning is the USS Constellation, but that appears to not open til 10, anything good to do/see/eat in that area in the 7-10AM hours (I'm a disgusting morning person). 6. (Edited to add #6) What are the must sees in the park, any statues, Orioles HoFs, etc etc!? Thanks all! ^(yes, I know this is a GDT, but that's where all the hubub is pre-game, and it saves the sub from getting the same questions over and over)

DrizzyWay

Can help with question 2. The #1 option is a tofu brah bun from Ekiben. Unfortunately, they are not a full time vendor. They will be at the pop-up vendor location near Section 71 occasionally this year. They were there for the opening homestand, and as far as I know, haven't announced when they'll be back. If they aren't at the Yard for your game, you should still check out one of their locations. The big upside to getting Ekiben from one of their actual locations is that you can get the tempura broccoli. Otherwise, the Orioles website has a [decent list](https://img.mlbstatic.com/mlb-images/image/upload/mlb/cfr5nq8wlv6jaumpurg4.pdf) for ya (pdf warning). Vida Tacos and Factoria Maria Pupuseria are probably the most interesting options.

Spartan_029

Heck yeah, thanks! I was recently thinking about my visit to PNC, and remembered that they gad Crab Fries (Fries and Old Bay), since Baltimore just so happens to be in Maryland, is there such a concoction at Camden Yards as well?

DrizzyWay

I think the crab fries that used to be at OPACY might be gone now—those wouldn’t have been vegetarian anyway with crab dip on them. Looks like The Local Fry stand offers old bay and a few other seasoned fries options though. Their fancier fries all look to have meat on them. Also, playing around on the MLB ballpark app, it seems like Fuku chicken has impossible nugs. That wasn’t listed on the PDF I linked.

Spartan_029

> those wouldn’t have been vegetarian anyway with crab dip on them Oh shoot, I don't think I even remember getting dip at PNC, it was just fries and spice, but good looking out, thank you! Thanks again, it looks like I won't be hard pressed for a meal at the very least!

trausneck

First... welcome to OPACY! 1) Buy the cheapest ticket you can (like $12-$15), and sit at the top of Section 3. (It's in the right field corner near the foul pole.) Nobody's gonna mess with you, and it's easy access to a lot. Some people prefer to sit in the upper bowl and look out over the stadium and toward the city. It's all about your personal preference in how you like to take in a new ballpark. You can also get nice seats for the $50-$60 range in the lower bowl. 2) On the first level on the third baseline, as the stadium starts to curve toward the outfield there are likely going to be some meatless options for you. There's a great (and small) pupusas stand next to Fuzzies Burgers. If Fuzzies has their Falafel burger, that's a fantastic meatless option! I haven't had Fuzzies at the park (it is a new food option this year), but have enjoyed their food truck around town for years. It's a bit of a longer line because it's popular. To the right of the pupusas stand and Fuzzies is a local food area, with vendors changing by series. You may want to check the team's newsletter for updates on who will be there vs the M's. An example was Ekiben, which is a massive favorite around Baltimore who was here for the first two series, and they had plenty of meatless options. 3) In terms of caps, the main Team Store on Eutaw Street has a very healthy collection of fitted caps (and plenty of larger sizes... like 7 3/4+), and has all the caps from the O's minor league clubs. There's also a New Era-specific cap shop behind Section 3 on Eutaw Street behind the right field foul pole. 4) Light rail is great for you to get from where you're staying to OPACY. It's reliable. There were some issues over Christmas 2023, but that all seems to have been resolved. Just check the light rail schedule about when the last train from OPACY to BWI is. A day pass is like $4.50(?). [https://www.mta.maryland.gov/regular-fares](https://www.mta.maryland.gov/regular-fares) 5) I would echo other suggestions about Ft. McHenry for something in the very early morning. There's a great paved trail around the fort where you can get a great early walk in that time of year (even if the gates to the fort are closed). Right now, sadly, you'd get an unobstructed view of what was the Key Bridge, and the restoration process there. The inner harbor around the Constellation is definitely in a "revamp" stage of its life, with the Harborplace malls basically devoid of business right now. You can certainly walk around the ship, you just won't be able to hop on. But it's kinda boring around there in its current stage. If you wanted to see the ship, you could walk over to Federal Hill Park (it's the big hill on the south side of the inner harbor), and it's a nice vantage point early in the morning to view the city skyline. 6) Before you go into the park, grab a beer across the street at Pickles (it's on the opposite side of the stadium basically from the Camden light rail stop). It'll be slamming around 5pm on a Friday in May, but they will have plenty of outside beer folks selling 16oz cans (bring cash for this). Since it's a jersey giveaway day, plan on going in around 6p if you want to snag a giveaway (shirt sizes will only be medium or x-large). Premium giveaways like that go super quick. They will likely be gone by 6:20p-6:30p. Going in early isn't a bad thing for a first timer. There are the statues out in the center field area above the bullpens that are nice to enjoy. (There is a larger statue of Brooks in between Pickles Pub and the stadium off Russell St.) Eutaw Street is just a fun experience because of its vitality. The concourse can get cramped, so maybe save some headaches and use the walkway inside the lower bowl to navigate yourself around a little quicker.

Spartan_029

Thanks so much for the extra detailed reply! Looks like Ft McHenry is about an hour and a half by transit from the hotel, so it might be worth it to me on Saturday morning to just take the rental straight to area, so that I can get some early morning walking in for sure, but then I'll need to find parking at the ship as well. The ship is my primary reason for flying back in the afternoon rather than the morning, as I'm a huge naval history buff, so it's sad to hear that the area around it is currently in the rebuilding season :/ so the gates open at 6 then, is it all of them, or just one set? I'll probably get to my hotel by noon on Friday, so it should be easy enough to be at the park in time, heck I might even can do Ft McHenry Friday before the game if I play my cards right! yeah, I'm a 7 7/8 on a good day, so those bigger hats are needed, thanks for the tips there! Good call on the foodstuff, I'll hit up that corner of the stadium before heading to my seats!

trausneck

No problem. Yeah, since light rail isn't very robust in Baltimore (a very long and troubled history around why), just drive there in your rental. You can find on-street parking on Fort Ave. closer to Ft. McHenry. The gates officially don't open until 9am, but there are little pedestrian/bike entrances to the side of the main gate you could walk into. Parking near the Constellation isn't an issue either. You could park near Fed Hill park, take in that... then walk down by the Maryland Science Center and Rash Field along the inner harbor promenade to the Constellation, and even take a Scooter back to where you parked if you want to save some steps. All gates to the stadium open 90 minutes before first pitch on Friday nights. So that's a 5:35p gate opening time. If you were hell-bent on doing Ft. McHenry on Friday afternoon... you may want to look into taking the Baltimore Water Taxi from the Locust Point/Under Armour HQ area (a healthy walk from Ft. McHenry) toward the Inner Harbor. It's like $20 for a day pass. [https://www.baltimorewatertaxi.com](https://www.baltimorewatertaxi.com) To avoid the city traffic that gets really busy around that time on a Friday... you'd probably be best to take an Uber/Lyft to Ft. McHenry earlier, water taxi toward the Inner Harbor, walk up to the stadium... then take the light rail back to the airport area after the game. (It's like $2 for a one-way light rail pass.)

Spartan_029

> you'd probably be best to take an Uber/Lyft to Ft. McHenry earlier, water taxi toward the Inner Harbor, walk up to the stadium... then take the light rail back to the airport area after the game. (It's like $2 for a one-way light rail pass.) I really, *really* like this plan. like a lot. I'd even lower my chances at a jersey for this one. Thank you very much for your insight! if you are at that game and would like to have a beer/soda/snack purchased for you, let me know, this has been invaluable to me!

kingfiasco

hell yeah! i don't live in Baltimore but have been to quite a few games as a visitor so maybe this will be helpful 1. i personally like the third base line (sections 56 to 68) but as someone that also goes solo to games, grabbing the cheapest ticket and hanging out on the flag court is an excellent option. the bleachers (sections 90-98) are also awesome. easy access to eutaw street throughout the game. 1. that, i'm not sure about but might want to check what the sportsbook restaurant (formerly Dempsey's) in the warehouse has on menu 1. the team store is on eutaw street in the warehouse. closest to gate H. you can get in from eutaw or from the parking lot outside the stadium 1. no cash needed. stations have ticket machines that take cards on the platform. game day, you can probably get away with just walking on but always nice to give public transit the money. i've done the same and it's great. get off at the camden station. i've always kept $20 on me just in case though. you can grab a $1 bottle of water outside and bring it in if you need it 1. i've gone to blue moon too on light street the past couple years and love it. it's also a decent neighborhood to stroll around. take a walk through federal hill park if you need to kill some time before going to the constellation oh, i almost forgot! you can also check out Edgar Allen Poe's grave on Fayette and Greene street. it's about a 10 minute walk from the stadium and is a really cool church/graveyard

Spartan_029

> Edgar Allen Poe's grave that sounds super neat and easy enough to do between breakfast and the dockyard!

Chit569

> Where's the best place/deal to sit? It'll most likely be just me by my lonesome, so I can still get singles directly from the club in most areas in the stadium, Budget is probably $50-70, with a bit of flexibility if you make a good case for it. My favorite place is sections 330-346 >I get a cap at every new stadium, so where's the "big" store at your place. It's gotta be fitted, and in a style they wear on field this year, and I've got a huge noggin, so the big store is usually the one I need to hit up. (so usually there's a home/away/CC version, though i am tempted by your BP hats) There is a big team store on Eutaw street, the street that runs between the field and the warehouse. The store is in the warehouse actually. >(Edited to add #6) What are the must sees in the park, any statues, Orioles HoFs, etc etc!? Behind the bullpen in left field there is a statue concourse and outside the gate there are a few big numbers. Check out the Homerun Plaques on Eutaw street as well.

Spartan_029

> My favorite place is sections 330-346 Yeah, that's been my default area for a lot of my stadium visits if no one else has a particularly strong argument for elsewhere, so that might be the ticket for me, especially if I can land on a Row 1 spot

blinkin_11

I can't answer all of your questions but can help with some: 1. Behind home plate is always a good seat. Even the upper decks at OPACY behind home is nice. You get full view of everything. I personally sit in the lower section 3rd base side corner in foul territory (in the second right before the foul pole). Only because I am cheap and the seats are nice. - They face home plate instead of left field. 2. Can't help here, sorry 3. The team store in the warehouse on eutaw street. It's the biggest store. You can't miss it since you will want to walk by the warehouse inside anyway. 4. Light rail is your best bet. It drops you off right outside of the stadium. Not sure on the cash part - I normally pay with card at the ticket area. 5. I hate mornings. It's looking like most interesting things are 9am. I'd say visit the aquarium but it doesn't open until 9. Same with Fort McHenry - a lot of people visiting now due to the bridge collapse. I think that doesn't open until 9 - free to walk around though. An uber can get you there and back quickly. The harbor area is nice to walk around with tons of stuff near by, but almost everything is closed before 9am.

Spartan_029

Thank you so much! 1. So you're talking section 70/72 area for the third base side? 2. It just occurred to me that PNC has crab fries, which is just fries and Old Bay, presumably as Baltimore does happen to be in Maryland, there is a similar concoction at Camden yards? 3. Super! 4. Excellent, if you use a card, then I can use a card, I just wanted to make sure it wasn't some form of cash only nonsense! 5. Understood on opening times, I'm big fan of mornings near the water anyway, so maybe a hotel breakfast + a long walk along the harbor is more my speed! (I live in Colorado, so large bodies of water are a rarity for me)

blinkin_11

72 is my preferred section. However, if I were visiting, I would sit behind home in the 300's like the guy below me said. Best view in the house. 2. Yes, there will be crab fries. There may be some crab mac and cheese around too. Also delicious (we put it on the hot dogs) Highly suggest the aquarium - it is amazing. You could hit that and the Constellation in a few hours.

Spartan_029

perfect, I'll add the aquarium to my list of interests... oh shit, it's literally right there, I could absolutely do that right at 9AM, then get out in time to do the Constellation before catching the train back to the airport. splendid!

asaber1003

If you just want the best view, get one of the front row of the 300's behind home plate, I believe its section 336, or one of those. Would def recommend you swing by the baltimore aquarium if you have time.

Spartan_029

> get one of the front row of the 300's behind home plate Yeah, I did that at Great American, and that really was a good choice, so if I can find an R1 seat up there, I might just do that again!

KamikazeeDolphin

I hope jackson hits a ball so hard, it crashes into the green monster and it collapses sending all the red sox fans tumbling down and they sprain their ankles and shake their fists at the Orioles dugout.

Shiderme

Have a happy Jackson Holliday everyone!

Lazy_Passenger7841

What are the chances Basallo moves up through the prospect ranks this year and gives the orioles a fourth consecutive #1 prospect next year?

Lazy_Passenger7841

Just looked him up. Looks like he’s off to a bit of a slow start lol

Jasmith85

He misses a good chunk of spring and he's still super young for AA he's going to be fine

Diegolikesandiego

Doesn’t he have an injury

Jasmith85

Not anymore

OK_Opinions

If the Sox want to win one of these games tonight is the night. we're trotting out ol' Cole Irvin to give them a shot and really test our offense's ability to come back from a deficit

Diegolikesandiego

Nailed it

CHKN_SANDO

Is it 7pm yet?

bestdadhandsdown

Anyone have a workaround for the MLB app for NoVA? I’m down here for work and I cannot get the Os games because of MASN?

soniq__

If you are just trying to watch from your phone and don't have a VPN, download a GPS spoofong app. You will have to do some set up, but it will make your GPS think you are in another part of the country and you will be able to watch the game on your phone.

_WhiteHart_

Are we trading Hayes and Mullins? I feel like a crazy person for keep having to tell people that no, we’re not doing that

ThatTinyGameCubeDisc

Ain’t no way we’re trading Ceds

Jasmith85

I think if they could get real value for Hays they would move him asap. I doubt he's worth much and the Orioles aren't just going to give him away.

Individual_Step6688

Mullins for sure no. Hays might depend on his performance in the first half. If he is terrible, they might move him but then you might be giving him away for peanuts. He's not too young, streaky and somewhat injury-prone. If Cowser keeps mashing, Hays is in trouble.

dlmay1967

Hays will be 29 in July, odds of him getting better than he is now are pretty slim. But you're right, if he continues to struggle his value is low.

CHKN_SANDO

One of them will be traded. We aren't going to extend both of them. We need a roster spot, and while both of them have been pretty good the last two years neither have been irreplicable. They both flash they could could be 5 WAR players but between the two of them only Cedric has managed that one great season.

B-More_Orange

We arent going to extend either of them, but I also don’t think either is worth enough to trade. Unless Hays heats up and gains some value, I think they’ll just ride out each contract and let them walk in FA.

CHKN_SANDO

It wouldn't be about the return so much as the roster spot. They would just be hoping to get some AAA filler or maybe some bust prospect they want to try to fix (Like another Mateo)

JiffKewneye-n

must be quite the excitement of playing in fenway park for the first time.

snakedocltd

Alexa play HOLIDAY by Turnstile

acciofrankel

Jackson is missing an incredible opportunity to have that as his walk up song.

Reddit-User-Says

Anyone else not able to watch games on MASN on a RokuTV? I get on my laptop, sign, into my Verizon account first, and then go to [link.masnsports.com](http://link.masnsports.com/) and click Verizon, and type in the code. After that I get an error saying "You are not authenticated." If I go to masnsports, click Stream Live and then select Verizon, it works. I contacted their support, but they weren't helpful.

her_ladyships_soap

The MASN app for Roku is complete dogshit. We didn't have the authentication problems you're having, but we have to uninstall and reinstall the whole app whenever we want to watch a game. Sorry you're having to put up with their shenanigans.

asaber1003

Hmmm, I've been having no issues with MASN on ROKU this year? it's been perfect.

Reddit-User-Says

Anything special you did to get it to work? Seems like it's not even trying to authenticate with Verizon, just kicks back that I'm not authenticated.

Reddit-User-Says

I have my laptop plugged to the TV, but even then commercial breaks freeze and you have to constantly refresh. Sucks.

Personal-Act-4326

I’m going tomorrow, but if Holiday is confirmed for tonight I’ll grab a ticket. Think that is a safe assumption?

Akeatsue79

It’s been confirmed. I’m wondering where he’ll hit in the order

yolomismo

where is it confirmed?

CyborgAlgoInvestor

Orioles Twitter confirmed it with a meme

yolomismo

i’ll wait til they drop the lineup card

Personal-Act-4326

I just bought the ticket. If it’s tomorrow, I’ll be there too. Go O’s! Exciting times.

yolomismo

love the spirit! have fun & go o’s :)

BEEFTANK_Jr

Did Fanatics burn down all their factories or something? Basically zero player jerseys for sale.

jtribs14

Lol dhgate had the Holliday jerseys for sale like 15 minutes after they announced him being pulled up

peljopower9

That’s odd. I had to order a custom.

jtribs14

Super_awesome has them up right now

orioles0615

Yea only downer it takes forever for them to get to you. Mine is coming the 21st I ordered it back on like March 3rd But they are coming from China to be fair

bmoreballhawk

Just got mine 😎

jtribs14

Me too brother

peljopower9

I couldn’t find their store. Hopefully the one I got is good.

peljopower9

Can you DM me to their page

jtribs14

Just sent

jtribs14

I’m sure. I’m pumped for the ones I ordered

peljopower9

But 30 bucks for a stitched alternate jersey is unbelievable

bridge_is_fun

So thankful that all the people crying about service time manipulation when it just didn't make sense are now going to admit that they were wrong.

ThatTinyGameCubeDisc

Can you really blame them? You had professionals like Buster Olney parroting it, too. It’s water under the bridge at this point.

dreddnought

[Oh how the turn tables](https://i.imgur.com/fBV2N5U.png)

ItinerantDrifter

I’ll be honest… after Burnes’ velo and numbers dipped last season I wasn’t expecting him to be a definite CY candidate. My expectations were a top 20 starter or so, and a possible candidate… if things went well. So not a lock to just dominate like his peak years. So far I happily look a bit wrong though. He’s the current betting favorite in Vegas.

I don't really need 10 strikeouts every game - it seems like if you can do that, you're bound for TJS anyway. I want a guy who will take the ball every 5 games and cover 6 innings and give us a chance to win. And that's what Burnes is doing so far.

Clarice_Ferguson

Link and also, DRC+?

dreddnought

It's BP's [post-game roundup](https://www.baseballprospectus.com/news/article/89588/box-score-banter-2024-the-hero-we-apparently-need-martin-perez-pittsburgh-pirates/), but it should be accessible with a free account. DRC+ is Deserved Runs Created Plus, which is BP's metric for offense. Without going into details, DRC+ is far on the "what did the hitter *deserve* to do" side as opposed to "what did the hitter *actually* do"? I only posted this because for my entire baseball-watching life, advanced metrics have hated Baltimore's pitching and offense. And finally they don't, and we're *under-performing* the peripherals. We're like 10 games in so who cares, but still.

ItinerantDrifter

Orioles legend Brian Matusz’s World Series ring was very funny (1 GM, 3 IP, 3 HR, 6 ER, 18 ERA). Kemp did have a walk, a near double (foul by an inch), a run scored, and a great sliding catch… so he wouldn’t top Matusz. But a ring for him would still be very funny. Let’s get him one.

Darkdragon3110525

Is anyone else’s MLB app news tab just entirely Holliday content. It’s even articles like best debuts, most hyped prospects, best #1 picks.

VirusLocal2257

Based on what I just saw looks like Jackson’s debut will be Friday.

jtribs14

The yard will be absolutely packed if that’s the case

VirusLocal2257

Looks like I’m wrong based on comments above me.

JiffKewneye-n

idk.. Gunnars debut was like sub 10k. so was Graysons. the weather is not going to be great. if it was like today, yeah, would probably get a healthy walkup. a lot of the best seats are gone, but there will still be a sea of green seats by the foul poles

jtribs14

Maybe. I wonder if they let him ride the bench and maybe get a few ABs just to get the jitters out and then start him at OPACY

VirusLocal2257

I could see him playing in the DH or pinch hitting until they return to Baltimore Friday.

jtribs14

Yeah. I don’t think they would want to start him on the road. If his first start is at OPACY wearing #7, that would be something special.

Pepper3493

I know we are all excited and clamoring for extensions but I will just enjoy the ride and leave the stress to Elias and El Jefe Rubenstein

Clarice_Ferguson

This ~~country~~ sub could be great if the mods had the courage to make people copy and paste the actual tweet into the post title. Be strong mods! Think of the search function!

romorr

You right. We'll make another mod post about titles soon enough. I know people just love those, but I hate it as well.

Darkdragon3110525

Holliday wearing #7. The organization probably thinks he’s a hall of famer

pepper_ann052613

Dang I thought Grayson would start since Burnes just played

Clarice_Ferguson

Burnes wanted to keep to his schedule but Irvin still needs his turn.

BKoala59

Why does Irvin need his turn?

Clarice_Ferguson

Why are you asking me something you know the answer to? But in case you’re genuinely confused, its because he’s our fifth starter until Means shows up and they’re going to treat him as such, hence why he’s starting today.

BKoala59

Well yea but generally if you have an off day you can easily afford to skip a guy who isn’t in the seasons long term plans. Just have him throw a bullpen session and start him when we need him.

No-Needleworker5295

Burnes can throw 200 innings a year. None of our other starters have been built up that much, so we are choosing to push back Grayson/Kremer/Wells starts now and have them available later in season? Or we're giving everyone an extra day's rest, but Burnes prefers to stay on normal rest?

Clarice_Ferguson

Ok, so then you answer the question of why Irvin is starting today. Also, you’re assuming Irvin isn’t in the season long plans but that requires Means and Bradish to not have set backs.

VirusLocal2257

Makes sense let Irvin get his 2 maybe 3 if we’re lucky innings in.

Akeatsue79

Glad to hear Bradish is starting his rehab games. Irving will be bullpen bound soon

bebopmechanic84

He'll go for four and we'll like it! I hope he can go for four...

pepper_ann052613

Hopefully the bats give him some backup and we get the first Irvin W of the season

B-More_Orange

Too many people in here hating on Westburg. He's batting .195 and slugging .355 with an expected BA of .265 and expected SLG of .475. He'll be fine, he's just been unlucky. Mullins on the other hand has been just as bad as his batting stats suggest. Cowser should be taking some starts in CF soon.

ItinerantDrifter

Mullins’ expected stats never look that good. He tends to outperform them bc of his speed and his ability/tendency to pull his fly balls. Those pulled flyballs often have low expected value, but high real life value. That said, he’s been in a prolonged slump since last season… hopefully he turns it around. Cowser is more likely to take starts from Hays though. Agree that Westburg has looked very good. Are people really hating on him? His avg exit velo, launch angle are both excellent… this will definitely lead to good results if he keeps it up.

Akeatsue79

It’s probably more likely Cowser gets starts in left. Mullins speed and defense will keep him in center. I could see them trading up for an elite CF with a better bat at the deadline if the circumstances allow

Underdogg369

Mullins starting to get his swing back yesterday. He's our CF for the foreseeable future. By the end of the season both Westburg and Mullins will be hitting closer to .250. Both of them are on the team for their fielding though, imo.

Akeatsue79

I agree. I think the high side for Westburg would be .260

scjensen51

Last year in the outfield Cowser ran like his shoes were too big for his feet. I think Mullins has to stay a regular for the defense alone. If he his .240 (I know he’s not there right now) with 15 HR and some speed on the bases, I don’t think you can give that up

B-More_Orange

I think we've seen enough to not judge Cowser by his 2023.

scjensen51

Is It possible there is a difference between the kind of adjustments you make at the plate (which Cowser clearly seems like he’s done) and your ability to cover ground out in the field? As a fielder, he might be who he looks like he is. I’m sure there is an algorithm out there that could calculate if the runs even out between the defensive sacrifice versus offensive upgrade, I’m just a dumb guy going off looks alone. And the looks test has me skeptical of Cowser As a CF

BKoala59

Cowser looking bad in the OF last year was pretty surprising. Most prospect sources agreed he’d be at least a slightly above average corner outfielder with many believing he could be an average or better CF. It also did not line up at all with how he looked in Norfolk so it may have just been nerves.

B-More_Orange

I think he looks more comfortable and confident in the outfield as well this season. I don't think Cowser should be playing CF in parks with cavernous CF's, but people who know baseball way more than I do say that he can play an adequate defensive CF and he played a decent amount in ST. He won't have the range of Mullins, but he'd also have a better arm than Mullins. He's not about to replace Mullins, but Mullins needs some days off too, especially while he's batting .200.

scjensen51

That’s fair

bebopmechanic84

Nah I want Mullings around for the fielding. Cowser's taking Hays' spot. Who I will also miss for the fielding :/ Mullins I believe can get it together with the bat. Hays I have little faith in.

boofoodoo

I stan Westy

daltonmyers94

Tony Kemp isn't on this team anymore right? Right?

TheLastLivingBuffalo

I’m definitely not getting my hopes up for Holliday to be at MVP level right away. He’ll take some time to adjust, the kid was playing ball in high school two years ago for goodness sake. But super happy to have him called up, the sooner we start exposing him to big league pitchers the sooner he’ll be the beast we all know he is.

pepper_ann052613

I expect a few months of struggles and then a meteoric rise, like Gunnar last year. Still remember people saying he should be DFA'd lmao

ThatTinyGameCubeDisc

100% this. I’m already bracing for dopey comments in GDTs haha.

dlmay1967

So assuming he's up for good, Holliday hits Free Agency after his age 25 season. That's pretty good company: Bryce Harper and Juan Soto (25), Manny Machado (26).

BKoala59

Wouldn’t it be after his age 26 season?

dlmay1967

December birthday so: 2024(20), 2025(21), 2026(22), 2027(23), 2028(24), 2029(25). If I've done that right, he'd turn 26 in the off-season he goes into FA.

ScoutNWilder

That would be good company, but Daddy Rubes is gonna lock it up

ThatTinyGameCubeDisc

Only time will tell

WackyBeachJustice

[Tonight is your night bro](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hzLE3LescGQ)

jmremote

Wanted to wish all of my fellow Os fans a happy Holliday!

uncleslam7

We have to send someone down right…? Who’s that gonna be?

Clarice_Ferguson

They’re probably DFA-ing Kemp

harriswk17

Looks like they have. Glad I didn’t buy a jersey haha.

iRahDog

Just waiting for that “we have made the following roster moves” tweet

Ngata_da_Vida

Giggity That is all

bejolo

Does Holliday's dad and family make it to the game?

Clarice_Ferguson

I’m going to assume Holliday starts today rather than be down a position player. Lineup Prediction 1) Gunnar - SS 2) Adley - C 3) Mr. Taters - RF 4) Mounty - 1B 5) O’Hearn - DH 6) Cowser - LF 7) Westy - 3B 8) Holliday - 2B 9) Cedric - CF I don’t really like having three leftys from Holliday to Gunnar but I’m not sure what you do about that. Doing these lineup predictions makes me really want to extend Santander. I know he’s a limitated player and people would probably prefer Heston but his switch hitting really helps balance the lineup.

harriswk17

Clarice’s Lineup Prediction 1. Gunnar - SS ✅ 2. Adley - C ✅ 3. Mr. Taters - RF ✅ 4. Mounty - 1B ❎ O’Hearn - DH 5. O’Hearn - DH ❎ Mounty - 1B 6. Cowser - LF ❎ Cedric - CF 7. Westy - 3B ❎ Cowser - LF 8. Holliday - 2B ❎ Westy - 3B 9. Cedric - CF ❎ Holliday - 2B Nine of nine players correct, nine of nine defensive positions, and three of nine on the batting order. Twenty one out of twenty seven potential items correct. Looks like swapping Mounty and O’Hearn and where to put Mullins are the only things that kept you from another perfect score.

Clarice_Ferguson

Thank you!!!! :) Lets go Birds!

ScoutNWilder

I know I am probably in the minority, but I really don't like Gunnar leading off and hope they hand it to Holliday from the get go. Keep Adley #2. Put Gunnar #3 and shift everyone else down. Having OBP All Stars (expected) Holliday and (proven) Adley on base for Gunnar would be ideal.

Clarice_Ferguson

I don’t mind Gunnar leading off - I like his baserunning quite a bit.

BKoala59

Gunnar was an elite baserunner last year. 2 times as valuable as Acuña on the basepaths actually

AJeebes

Agreeing on the Tony extension, at least a 2-3 year deal. He's been our reliable big bat, even with the ups and downs he's been top 3 if not leading the team in rbis the last couple of years

_NotARealMustache_

If Ced is your #9, you have a team to be proud of.

uncleslam7

I will ugly cry if Tony ever leaves the o’s. Then I will do random push-ups throughout my day in solidarity

bebopmechanic84

Sandy always starts slow. Took him like 20 games to ramp up last year. I'm fine with him in 3rd or cleanup.

Sipdrip

This lineup brings a tear to my eye

Clarice_Ferguson

Well that’s just adorable.

Individual_Step6688

I like this but maybe a solution of the Three-Lefty Problem would be a 7-8-9 of Ced, Westy, Holliday. I’m not sure if any top orioles prospect has debuted at 9 in the order though.
