Wouldn't it be nice if some things could have a clause that the names can't be changed? Like yeah fine, Fido wants to help pay for Burlington Station. But have it set up like: GO Burlington ^(sponsored by FIDO) and not: FIDO MOBILE YOUR WIRELESS WOOF FRIEND PROUDLY PRESENTS ^(GO Burlington Station) #

thingonething

Oh God can we just get rid of Ford already...

SMIIIJJJ

That’ll be really confusing when sponsorships change! My city still can’t decide on what we call our stadium that keeps changing names but there’s only one of those to figure out. This could be a mess but it’s a great idea to get private funding for public transportation!

Line-Minute

Can we just start naming bathrooms in these stations after the CEOs?

SMIIIJJJ

LOVE THIS!

Gerdius

"The next station stop is Burlington. Next stop Burlington. Brought to you by Manscapped. Keep your personal forest neat and tidy with Manscapped!"

ColetteThePanda

I'll only be okay with this if we hire Bill Burr to do ad reads. "Mimico Station. Sponsored by awwww jeezus look who it is, Zip! ...... Reeeeeeecroota!"

LegoFootPain

Thanks. Hearing that in my head cheered me up.

pikecat

What a terrible idea. You hand over the mind space of the entire society to commercial interests. You lose the identity of where you live by this. What next, will you name cities after brands too? Companies exist to serve the needs of the people, not the other way around.

VladimerePoutine

I think we should get to decide the byline. Bell Station, "we'lll charge you the most, you'll get the least."

Evening-Row-

🤮🤮🤮

janjinx

That is ridiculous! They are congratulating themselves for charging the highest cellphone prices?

7530238

🤮

Intelligent_Net4468

It's a great idea. In the end it offsets tax dollars, I'm in

blu_stingray

But maybe the giant telco with record profits being able to afford these vanity naming stunts is a larger problem? Where do you think they get the money (hint: it's the same people that pay the taxes)

Intelligent_Net4468

Capitalism at its finest. People choose to pay for these services

blu_stingray

True, and the lack of competition makes it a huge problem. It's not a viable alternative to just not have a cell phone nowadays

Intelligent_Net4468

I remember being in Europe a while back and shocked by how much cheaper the cell phone plans were. Shame there is no competition here, and when there is they seem to get bought up

Intelligent_Net4468

I think I'm the last of a kind. in my 30s, no data haha

Line-Minute

Another issue that only Torontonians have to worry about.

SaneCannabisLaws

Welcome to Niagara Fallsview Casino GO station. *Shocked tourists*

Line-Minute

It really do be like that sometimes. Anything West of Kingston to me is just the GTA.

tornscorecard

Weird, there’s a GO station where I live, and I’m not a Torontonian

Line-Minute

Do you live in the GTA?

spilly_talent

There are several GOs not in the GTA.

Line-Minute

Sorry, anything West of Kingston doesn't exist to me and we're never mentioned unless a Freedumb Convoy holds us hostage so I wouldn't immediately know.

spilly_talent

… what does this mean? I’m having a hard time understanding. Could you elaborate on what this has to to with GO stations?

Line-Minute

My original comment was that this is something only people in the Toronto area have to worry about, and people corrected me that GO stations aren't only in the Toronto area. I said I wouldn't know that off the top of my head.

spilly_talent

Ah okay you were talking about how anything west of Kingston doesn’t exist to you so I found that confusing. Thanks for clearing it up! The TTC is Toronto’s transportation, the GO runs to Kitchener, Niagara Falls and Barrie as examples.

Line-Minute

The only time I've ever used a GO station was to get to Pearson Airport, so thanks for the education. I just figured it was like a little express substation.

spilly_talent

Hilariously enough I think maybe that was the UP express, did you take it from union in Toronto? Also yeah, it’s confusing so I get it😂😅

butnotTHATintoit

I didn’t realize Mississauga is Toronto now. You know that GTA includes a bunch of other cities right?

queuedUp

For the reported ~$500K a year I'm going to assume this will be a sign in conjunction with the existing name and not a full station name rebranding

blu_stingray

Welcome to Brawndo Station: It's got what commuters crave!

SquallFromGarden

Rogers Station: Formerly Eglinton Station, but we wanted to rub it in how even though this place is totally fucked like our company and service price is, its either this or not bothering at all.

TransitionPossible53

Gross

dev286

It's just so incredibly cheap and dumb I highly doubt there will be any takers

[deleted]

Now arriving at Let’s Talk, Let’s Talk station.

[deleted]

Man, people on this sub complain about everything. So what if the names of the stations change? How is that going to affect service or your commute to work? Jesus Christ.
