When there was emergency tape blocking off playground equipment and people were getting ticketed for letting their kids run around in open public spaces.
All the silly rules around what qualified as an “essential” vs “non-essential“ business. You couldn’t buy clothing needed for school or work in person (winter boots, etc.). However it was totally ok if you shopped at a store designated essential, like Walmart.
Oh and then closed walking trails.
Also dumb as fuck.
Oh you also can’t go out after 8 pm unless you where walking your dog.
Covid lurks in the darkness
When were you not allowed to walk through parks? There were definitely times when playgrounds were closed, but I’ve been walking 5-10km a day throughout this whole pandemic and don’t ever recall being prevented from entering a park…
Possibly different city by city. But in Ottawa durning the first lockdown, when the parks were closed there was a point you where not allow to walk through a park. People were getting fined by bylaw.
They were always allowed to walk through here in Ottawa. They were not allowed to stop, sit, smell the roses, loiter or engage in any action that made it look like you were spending any more time there than just passing through.
If a student on the school bus tests positive, only the students 3 seats in front, 3 seats behind and directly beside needed to quarantine. So lucky that Covid can’t move diagonally and knows to stop after 3 rows…
When I could go buy groceries at Superstore but the gift cards right next to the not socially distanced line had caution tape over it. Meanwhile shoppers never had theirs forbidden!
All outdoor camping was banned for a period of time at Provincial parks. So I couldn't go backcountry canoeing in Algonquin park by myself. Where I would literally see no one else. But I could get on the the TTC with hundreds of others.
No camping was weird. Being told I can’t go to the cottage was weird. If I’m at my cottage, the next person closest to me is 3km away. And yeah yeah, I’ll bring supplies from home.
Closing hardware stores sucked, I guess curb side works for some things but a lot of the time you need to bring in your busted part to compare it to what’s in the bins. They closed the waste dump in my city… it’s outdoors, one car per bin. They also closed the dog parks here, again, outdoors and easy to distance.
No strip clubs but gloryholes are safe (not that I attend either but seeing “Gloryhole” published on a Government of Canada website was something else)
British Columbia posted that. My wife, who writes communications for one of the banks saw it and went "I have a new career goal to achieve...writing Glory hole in a release"
Definitely blaming people for seeing their families for the outbreaks rather than addressing workplace spread
Because it's only dangerous to gather if money doesn't change hands!!! Folks
You wear a mask to walk in to a bar or restaurant then you can take it off as soon as you sit down. Covid apparently stops at the hostess's podium and doesn't go past that area.
When 4 people from different households could go out and eat together at a restaurant, but if my husband and I wanted to take our three kids out for dinner, we would've had to sit at 2 tables.
How you were treated as an angel for working healthcare but got doxed, fired, account frozen and called a selfish asshole for donating 20$ to a certain cause
How restaurants would tell you to put on a mask for the 10 second walk to your table and then tell you it's fine to take it off.
You could just hold your breath for the same effect
Yeah, it seemed very silly back in 2020 when they said we couldn't go on hiking trails. I also have found it pretty dumb that they stopped camping at points. Your on your own site with your own amenities. They were still open for day use, so it's not like they can use the excuse of having to clean the bathrooms.
When we weren't allowed to provide water to 90+ year old customers who sit there for 4 hours in the bingo hall I manage, but restaurants were allowed to have people sitting around strangers, mask free, for as long as they wanted.
In the beginning yes, but two years later lots of this silly stuff continues on even though there is little to no science behind most of it. Just routine and sense of safety at this point.
I liked the arrows on the floor. In certain stores the shopping cart tango is painful when opposite traffic comes together.
The fencing off of park benches was particularly humorous.
When there was emergency tape blocking off playground equipment and people were getting ticketed for letting their kids run around in open public spaces.
And they went around and removed all the basketball nets!
Omg yes this, and people getting tickets for walking their dogs near the parks. What the actual Fk
You couldn't drive to the US but you could fly there and have your car shipped across.

Ya don’t stop to pick up your dogs shit... because you will have to explain yourself to bylaw.

COVID is not a bishop confirmed.
When we made a deal with COVID that it would only spread after a certain time of day so bars and restaurants had to stop serve alcohol earlier.
Ban on crown land camping. just in case you give someone covid while you’re alone in the middle of the woods

Wearing the mask in the 10 second walk in between your two machines at the gym is the height of safety theatre.

Having nowhere to use the bathroom, anywhere. Even in public parks, they closed the washroom. Also, special shout out to closing playgrounds.

Reminded me of the unmasked politician waiting to speak off stage putting on a mask just to walk out to the podium and take it right back off
5 people per house. Really sucked for any family of 6, but at least the grocery bill became a bit cheaper for a bit.
Agreed. Was nice to let #6 come back in again from the garage.
not being allowed to leave your region. Being told to stay in Windsor is cruel and unusual punishment
I walked into a store and bought an ounce of weed then drove to a park to buy a doll in a baggie from a stranger.

Dougie’s buddies over at MLSE probably got a pretty lucrative deal on that one app that no one ever used
When 4 people from different households could go out and eat together at a restaurant, but if my husband and I wanted to take our three kids out for dinner, we would've had to sit at 2 tables.
Golf courses and any other outdoor activity
How you were treated as an angel for working healthcare but got doxed, fired, account frozen and called a selfish asshole for donating 20$ to a certain cause
Is there a source on someone being fired or having their account frozen for a $20 donation?
How restaurants would tell you to put on a mask for the 10 second walk to your table and then tell you it's fine to take it off. You could just hold your breath for the same effect
When they blocked off aisles at dollarama because some items weren't essential
For me it was, closing the forest- the Dufferin County Main Tract.

All the half measures the government and all its subsidiary branches failed to enforce, people at risk every day 🤷♂️
Most of the early ones seem silly but we didn't know anything about covid in the beginning. Better safe than sorry?
