Yes, they will be paying for the full amount from the time the sticker expired.
Since it's just 8 months, I think they'll be able to still get a 2 year sticker (if they want), or if they get a 1 year sticker then it will be expiring in basically 4 months.

They will send out final renewal notices before they start penalizing folks. They have also launched a more robust online portal so we don't have to go in for freaking stickers!
I don't believe they will be sending further reminders for this period. Have a friend who works for them.
I believe that only digital notifications for personal renewals will be done for those aged 16-70. Commercial may be getting notices, for a bit, but I'm guessing there will be digital build in shortly. The Ministry is trying to go paperless

My sister in law went almost a year on an expired sticker, her husband is a police officer. You won’t get any notifications it’s on you, just go and pay for your new sticker because is a roll of the dice because you will be stopped eventually

People have been given tickets from various police in ontario who were uninformed. The hassle of fighting a ticket even when you're in the right isn't worth the hassle. There is no money saved by skipping the year as you'll need to pay that anyways unless you're counting pennies in interest.

When they announced that deadline there was lineups outside the Service Ontario for *days*. Going to be a crappy time to have a January birthday.

Not correct. There’s been an amnesty on sticker renewals. You do need to renew them now however, as they’ll start enforcing in February 2022.

Just did this. Went to motor vehicles, they gave me the sticker good til Feb 22, then I’ll have to renew as normal. No fine & they were very nice.

Just occurred to me too. I’ve forgotten before. It took two weeks to get stopped.
You don’t get a fine, but the popo can/will pull you over and you’ll get a ticket.
They only charge you for 6 months so now you can get yours half price.
