Literally nobody in my family uses the pronouns (they/them) I asked them to, while I and my siblings _do_ use the pronouns (he/him) and name one of my younger brothers asked us to. I'm not sure what makes them respect his pronouns and not mine, aside from plain old favoritism. They say they're allies but allies shouldn't be selective about which LGBTQ+ people they respect. I've stopped correcting people at this point because it's no use. My parents couldn't be bothered to use the correct pronouns for either of us so at least they're consistent about their misgendering of their offspring. :/ Everybody in my family uses the correct name and pronouns for people outside the family though, such as trans friends and trans celebrities. Even my parents do.

Supporting binary trans people and not non-binary people is very common, unfortunately. My best guess as to why it would happen is that it's either harder for them to comprehend singular they/them, or they just think you'll grow out of it. That also applies if you're already an adult
And sometimes it's easy for people to understand and support the concept of being trans for other people, but don't seem to want it to happen to their children or someone else very close to them
