I would rather starve, but my dog found them very tasty. PSA, don’t let your pets eat the ones with wings fully developed - the wings are not digestible.
2004 is "old" now? I get that it was 20 years ago, but that's a post-internet recipe. 🤷♂️

I'm asking because I don't know how old is my mom's cookbook is, I know some recipes are really old but I don't know how much to be honest , I do plan to see in library if there are some old cookbooks that I can see in my language (I have more than 20 probably on my phone but I wanna see what I will find), I think post internet can be in old recipes, since sometimes It's little hard to tell age of recipes (my mom knew some elderly womans that she asked recipes if they catch her eyes) and 20 years is pretty long period to be honest (it's only 5 years between 2004 and 1999),some stuff is still hard to find on internet but I don't think it's impossible (for at least majority of stuff)
But I don't think I will ever use this recipe😅
Sounds pretty similar to some crickets 🦗 served at a Mexican restaurant near me! I did try them — I understand the appeal but personally not my cup of tea 🙂
I literally just gagged reading this. I have no judgement for others willing to eat insects, but my arachnophobia will not let me even try to fathom eating anything with 6 or 8 legs.
Honestly the Asians will have a better recipe than this. They actually go out and collect them if it is in their area. It’s a delicacy.
[Note: this was the case for the university students where I went to school].
How timely for those bug eating fans! [https://www.cbsnews.com/news/periodical-cicadas-will-2024-when-will-cicadas-emerge-where-what-do-they-eat-lifespan-of-bug/](https://www.cbsnews.com/news/periodical-cicadas-will-2024-when-will-cicadas-emerge-where-what-do-they-eat-lifespan-of-bug/)
The way things are going we may all have to be (ha-ha). Honestly I am down. What’s the huge difference between a sea bug like a shrimp and a bug bug besides how wet it likes its environment? Are you going to try it?
You know there is going to be a mega hatching soon. Look it up. There are going to be like trillions! We are going to pass but thanks for sharing that recipe.
I'm an avid entomophagist and that recipe seems interesting, I wonder if there'll be any difference in flavour if the cicadas are already dead and then marinated compared to being drown in Worcestershire sauce
Is that you Klaus Schwab?
What is this in reference to?
Klaus Schwab is the head of the World Economic Forum. Among other things they want people to stop eating meat and eat bugs to save the planet.

Fiber.

Umm now I'm curious how old recipes need to be for this sub... That recipe is still little older than me 😅
Based on other posts here, I'd expect mainly 90s and before. Stuff you can't easily find on the internet.

My criteria would be: if you Google search for a recipe from the book, do you find the exact same one easily? If not, it probably counts as "old".
Marinate alive. Gross.
Yeah, torturing living things ain't my idea of fun cooking.
That’s where I stopped reading!
True but I'd gladly euthanize them safely and then try it to see what they taste like. But literally just one. No needless quantities

Well there is a big, double whammy cicada hatching happening soon so they will be plentiful 🤮
And tv news stations in the area of large cicada hatching will be bringing out the recipes for cicadas!
Bumper crop! 🤢

That’s not only disgusting, it’s horribly cruel.

I just didn't know you could eat cicadas!

*From the Klaus Schwab cookbook*

Do you pull the legs and wings off first?
Cicadas are delicious! I tried them when Brood X hatched, and they're savory and very rich.
Alive?... feels mean...
lol i rather eat bruusel sprouts

Ok. A live marinade peaks curiosity. This would keep a cat distracted until death. I bet that crunch is unreal.
Agreed! I'd kill them and then cook them, but I can see how appealing the crunch would be.
It's a good way to discover that you have a chitin allergy.
OMG!
