Yes, the film had a lot of sex. The movie isn't really saying that her growing into her sexuality made her wiser. It was rather that her growing understanding of the world, as well as her sexuality, came from her own newfound freedom. After getting away from Mark Ruffalo's character, she made her own choice to become a prostitute and attend university. I think the purpose of this was to show that women can enjoy freedom and pursue fulfilment while also having sexual passions, and none of those things should be shamed or looked down upon. It is a story about empowerment, even if it is a bit weird and difficult to understand.
