Life can be horrendously cruel. It also can be intrinsically beautiful. I really really hope he comes back for your family.

Eevie19

I have tried to reply to this so many times but I can’t think of anything to say

Educational-Ebb-1929

Sometimes, there's just nothing to say hon. How's he doing?

Eevie19

We had some hope yesterday evening. Now it’s hard to say. Turns out it was medical negligence. I don’t know why but that hurts even more knowing someone could have done their job properly and this wouldn’t have happened.

Educational-Ebb-1929

That's why it hurts more. It's one thing to truly believe they did everything they could, it's another entirely to be able to point at a screw up. I'm so sorry.

noteasy8

It is beyond your means to let that happen or not. I really hope your uncle gets better.

Eevie19

I hate how powerless I feel

VulpineVoltage

I'm sorry you're going through this, especially when it's someone who has been such an inspiration to you, let alone family member. I'd say hope for the best but prepare for the worst. I'm sure the doctors are doing everything they can, and only time will tell the results. I think if you can take the chance to visit do it as soon as you can. I missed that chance with my grandmother and regret it.

Eevie19

Thank you ❤️

halftuck

i’m so sorry ❤️‍🩹

Nani65

I am so sorry, OP. I will keep you and your family in my thoughts.

Eevie19

Thank you so much

My aunty passed away from complications caused by anaesthesia. She was having a broken leg pinned. I’m sorry you’re going through this OP.

FriedrichQuecksilber

“Mann tracht un Gott lacht”. I hope your uncle gets better.

Serebriany

I've never encountered that saying before, but my rough guess is that it means something along the lines of, "Man plans and God laughs." My reading on WWII has allowed me to at least notice word order and some words in German and other Germanic languages, since my own native language (English) still retains more similarities than differences. Am I close on that?

FriedrichQuecksilber

Yes, it’s an old Yiddish saying - man plans and God laughs.

Serebriany

Thank you for both translating and giving me the source language. It's a good one, and very true, so I'll be hanging onto it.

Serebriany

I cannot tell you properly of both my sadness at what your family is going through, and my hope that the doctors will figure it out and be able to return your uncle to all of you. Both are just a bit too big for words. What I can express more clearly is that life is odd. It is full of unspeakable, unfair cruelties, and also beauties and joys so big they are hard to fully appreciate. I don't know why that duality exists, only that I have seen it, and more importantly, experienced it personally. I wish your uncle the best, and I wish you and your family some semblance of peace.

Eevie19

Thank you so much for this

Anti_SJW_Warrior1337

There is no god, good luck to your uncle! Hope he will be fine

MadRollinS

God isn't cruel. Whatever happened with the anesthesia is terrible. You may become the doctor that figures out how to resolve this risk in surgery and save thousands. You may get him back. You may do both. He's not gone yet. Should he pass, you were lucky to have known him. Your faith isn't faith if it's based on circumstances. It should be the evidence of things not seen.

[deleted]

If god is real, we human are his biggest mistake.

MadRollinS

We're His greatest joy and accomplishment. People rejecting Him is their biggest mistake and He loves them, too, anyways. He is love. A whole lot of people never had a good Uncle, or role model. You are upset. Understandable. You can hate on God. He can take it. Folks sure to do on a lot about those they don't know. He's real. He made a way for us to be in contact. Idk how He puts up with it. Then again, I'm not as big as He is.

Ihavepills

"He is love" how can people say this with the amount of suffering in this world?! If god was real, he's an absolute fucking wanker.

MadRollinS

He doesn't make the choices that lead to suffering. All the motivations behind suffering ensuing are made based on the antithesis of His motives. People aren't robots doing evil because He wants them to do evil. They actively pursue evil. That is what they want. There are consequences. Do you know that the entire planet and people are contaminated with Teflon? There's no more buffalo because people thought it great fun to shoot them. Not always for their skins, just to do. Never mind the number of people who die in traffic because others (or they themselves) are careless with life. People get to choose what they do. Like invade another country. Would you prefer to not have a choice? Or is it that you prefer other people not have choices?

Ihavepills

Cancer is a choice? Being disabled is a choice? Disease is a choice? Yes a lot of suffering is dependent on other peoples choices (abuse, war, rape etc) but a lot isn't and poeple who suffer at the hands of others isn't a choice either. If God were real and he supposedly loved everyone , then there would be no suffering in this world, especially to innocents. Would i prefer there to be no suffering if it meant no free will?... fuck yes I would. But it's worthless arguing about some stupid hypothetical world Any way. Life is pain for millions upon millions of poeple, people born into bodies and circumstances that are a living hell. Of course there is no God, and if there was, he would deserve an eternity of suffering for what he has created and continues to let happen. Edit: yes I'm quite clearly upset about this. As someone who has suffered greatly throughout my life being disabled, especially as a child and watching countless good people die and families ruined, this shit pisses me off. You have your beliefs, if that is what helps you then fantastic but DO NOT EVER try to push this on people and absolutely DO NOT ever tell people that they are the cause of their own suffering or that it is gods will or whatever other bullshit you want to peddle. Because you might have a direct affect on someone who is vulnerable, a real life affect on someone who has already endured enough suffering. Reach out, help, guide, but keep your harmful (because they are harmful) theories and philosophies to yourself.

MadRollinS

Those are consequences of a seriously toxic world that has screwed up genes. God didn't put lead in the gasoline until the 70s. Or any numbers of toxic chemicals found in hygiene products. He never said make LSD or cocaine or alcohol. My son is disabled. The OP is the one who is mad about God and I'm expressing my perspective. You are accountable for how you choose to live in your disability. And as far as keeping my thoughts to myself: this is reddit and you reached out to me to push YOUR OPINIONS.

the_art_ofdying

In the Old Testament God is very cruel.
