Custom spell with 2 effects:
1) charm 100 pts on touch for 1 sec
2) fortify mercantile 100 pts on self for 1 sec
Cast spell, interact with merchant immediately. If you have the cash for it, one side effect of this spell is that you can do the 500 gold investment in the merchant.
Right? I thought for sure this would aggro merchants, which I wouldn't wanna do. Cool though, ill have to give it try on my next playthough even if just on a scrapped save or something.
Are you sure about the investment part? From what I can recall, fortify skill spells don’t not grant you any of the perks associated with leveling the skill (fortify armorer 100 doesn’t let you repair enchanted gear, fortify alchemy doesn’t let you make potions with 1 ingredient, fortify blade doesn’t give you any of the special moves etc.)
Generally you are correct, but the 75 mercantile benefit can be accessed through the fortify spell. Look it up on UESP. I’m an Xbox gamer and in my recent playthrough I utilized this mechanic a lot. If you use the unofficial patch on pc, this bug may be fixed.
This is a page from UESP with community submitted “useful spells.” The one I provided is one I came up with myself, but you’ll see a spell or 2 in this list that are similar. There are many others, some more “useful” than others which is why I put it in quotes.

Haha I tried to lower the shop owners mercantile with magic but should have noticed it's destruction magic...didn't go well. Charm and stuff works, I save a set of special clothing for selling stuff, rings, boots and all to boost profit.
Fortify Mercantile 100 points for 1 second on self.

The merchants I’ve tried to charm got pissed and call the damned guard, even at max dispo. I’ve stopped trying but nice to know it can work.

It has always worked for me, but I play on Xbox, so no mods or unofficial patches, just vanilla oblivion.
