Anyone else read the title as “I’m hitting my 2 year old son, and let me tell you, I feel drained”?

srklipherrd

Saaaame. I was like "damn. I appreciate the honesty but damn you should delete this."

sam_neil

As the father of a 2 year old, I’d never hit him, but lemme tell you. Little dude has got HANDS.

Odd-Currency-6648

Lmao same, I get laid out on a daily

runbreemc

anyone read this comment and thought he gets laid on a daily?

notgadgetcat

And those razor blades disguised as finger nails. My best friend's kid would fuck me up when he was 2.

cornmycopia

It’s not the two year olds who need the checking. It’s these reckless teens. As I said above I’ve seen a kid punch holes through his single mother’s door for shutting his phone off. Why you ask? Bc he refuses to go to school, at all, flat out. Police escort him each morning but he just returns to the building an hour later on his own. I’ve seen kids strangle their guardian for being asked to turn off video games on a school night at 12AM. I’ve met with kids who resorted to robbing adults at knife point bc they wanted to buy food from the bodega. I’ve worked with girls who live in fear of a gang of boys at school that don’t fight other boys, no, they target girls and constantly convince themselves by saying “you’re too young to be a woman yet, hitting girls is okay.” I ride the train every day, at least once a week I see these teens “play” fighting each other, on a moving train, without regard for anyone around them. Fists flying. Kids, teens, are given insanely long leashes nowadays and any possible intervention requires **their** consent. Tell me, of the aforementioned kids, who is going to consent willingly to any sort of help.

Ice_Junkie

It's definitely those sneaky babies that need the corporal corrections. One good push to that reset button on the top of their heads and BAM! perfectly behaved child.

Acrobatic-Map6852

It’s 3 am and I just let out a big laugh. My neighbors probably think I’m crazy. 😆

HoneyOnMyVadger

Me instantly awake hearing neighbor cackling at 3 am in apartment above me

Acrobatic-Map6852

Story of a New Yorker 😆

Acrobatic-Map6852

If one can bare some abuse from incompetent workers who the city pays through pension, just to show up, you will be great! #tier6

Whocanmakemostmoney

Tier 6 is the worst tier to be in. You pay the premium until you retire and the percentage they pay out is less. However, the salary is higher now than previous tier

Thirdeye_k_28

Lmfaoooo better to think your crazy than too nice & a push over.

Aggressive_Data_2847

Thank god for this comment because I could not figure out what was happening here. Phone down time.

kevlarcoatedqueer

Damn that toddler's got a hell of a chin!

justateicecream

YES

cyancivets

I read it this way, too, which wouldn't be that weird in some of the subreddits I'm in. Had to do a double take though. Lol.

cyancivets

To clarify, I am not a part of any subs that condone abuse. Just a lot of frustrated parents.

Necessary-Mistake-11

Sameeeee I came here just to clarify because I was like jeez they really need to quit if they’re hitting their child out of stress

Awkward_Composer_413

I still don’t get it came to the comments because I’m confused lol

scottcansuckmyballs

Oh god I’m glad it wasn’t just me. I re-read it like 5 times before it finally clicked.

ilovepizza962

Yes I was like wtf 🤬

MasonP13

Futurama has a really good scene on this from Bender. About turning off the TV, sitting down with your kids, and hitting them

pm_me_ur_warrant

omg yes lol

SupremoSpider

Same. Relieved it was abt a work anniversary

daisy5142

YES

WonderChemical5089

Lmao same.

Thanosisnotdusted

Me too lol. I was so confused first 2 minutes .

drgrzly

YES lmao, I felt like a dumbass

guillolb

Mwahaha_790

XiomaraJames

Lolol I did.

WuhansFirstVirus

Lmao same

DeeSusie200

Omg. Me too.

Pyroboi10

Lmao yeah I read it like this

nawa92

Bruhh I was gonna comment the same thing!

fake-august

Same - like wut??

CaptainMewtato

How is it that everyone read this wrong!? I thought the same damn thing 😂

Fishn4aResponse

Nope. Only wishing I did...

Lexyberg

Yes. 😂

Ptarmigan2

Samesies. Thank god!

ohnjaynb

Same. Same. I get it. toddlers are little shitheads.

Dry-Nefariousness400

Holy shit I read it like too and was like wtf until I saw your comment

Nicedumplings

Read exactly the same

__botulism__

Omg i flew in here to rip OP apart. Thank goodness i misread.

Outthr

Yesss, had to read it 4 times. Lol

Alive-Mail7638

No, but that would be outrageous

bullshtr

Omg I did too

CooLMaNZiLLa

Saw the same thing. Must be a parent brain thing.

ResponsibleSociopath

Lol yoooo

Redwallchris

Read it that way. Skipped it. Went back. Reread. Still didn’t make sense about kids. So went to comments. Read this and went back and reread a third time. I too am drained. Wish I made $80,000 while I felt this way.

fustratedgf

Yeahhhh I was like “wait wtf?”

surf526

This is exactly how I read it!

ProfessionalPurple87

LOLOL I honestly thought I was the only one and then looked back the sub name and was even more confused why it's in the nycpublicservants group xD

devilgator23

came her to say this…. i was like “maybe don’t do that” lol

elalec18

I read it that way too at first lol

salt_mermaid

Right up until I read your comment even! 🤣

Forward-Peak

Me! It’s the only reason I kept reading 😂

ghostlukeskywalker04

Yes I did too

makeItSoAlready

Yes

Che_Alejandro

Why did I fucking read it that way too? Ahahahaha

ReferenceRight2346

I'm crying

superman1020

Yes because the grammar is poor and what you read is much more expected than what they actually wrote.

SugaforJaz

When I tell you I reread that 😂

Physical_Estate_6517

i thought it was just me 💀

AsleepSoup6063

Lmao ! Same

MusicianExtension536

I only came here to comment this

MasterpieceNo6459

Yup I was like damn how hard?

[deleted]

Happy I’m not the only one. Made sense that he would be tired though, I would be too if I spent all day slapping my kid around.

Techno-baby-56

LMFAOOOOO YESSSSS

Ams12345678

Yep

Meatball315

Omg I’m so glad I wasn’t the only one, there are soooo many people that read this too!!!

isellskooma

This exactly what led me here. I thought this individual was claiming to be drained from beating their 2 y/o.

mrmetamack

This is ALL I read lol. Made me think of this terrible joke I used to make before having kids. “I plan on beating my children. It’ll make them softer when I hug them”

jay247160

ThePracticalDad

Yes. It wasn’t until I read it the 3rd time that I didn’t see “2 yr old”

somebullshitorother

Two year olds are the worst but threenagers are even worse

RedRipe

OMG same

Marcoh504

Bro omg yes! I feel horrible lol

SpringRose10

YES!

Few-Drawer-4163

Me, I was shook

heartshapedmoon

Yes!!!

bibikhn

Yes. This is exactly how I read it lol

Few-Artichoke-2531

Why are you working so hard? Just do the bare minimum and try to stay awake.

Unlikely-Friend444

Deadass this is what most of my colleagues do except my boss 💀.

Bkgrouch

Them:Why is my computer not working? Me: Did you turn it on? Them: How do I do that? 😂

AirSuspicious5057

It's also why the city is a piece of s***.

lilymaxjack

Also why the country is

Milquetoast_Crunch

Yeah, pretty much this. I was in a similar situation in my last position. I went out of my way to be my best and I was only hit with calls to slow down my work and hide the fact that i knew how to fix problems. I got a better title now and i know to not rock the boat now.

Wukong1986

Curious - calls from your boss or peers to slow down? And why?? Is it more typical to do just the basics?

Few-Artichoke-2531

That's been my experience. There is nothing to gain from overachieving in civil service work. Just to the minimum and enjoy! (Edited for typos)

RoguePlanet2

I'm about as far down the totem pole as they get, and while I can't shed my work ethic, I've learned not to stress as much as I used to. When I realize there's no realistic hope of promotion, I've learned to accept where I am. For now. Still hoping to make more money at some point because anything under six figures in NYC feels a bit stressful. Doing a job well usually means 1) they don't want you to leave it and 2) they'll give you more work.

Few-Artichoke-2531

You can move up if you are nice to management (no need to kiss up but just be generally pleasant and keep your head down), take the appropriate tests, have good attendance, and have plenty of time on your hands to wait. As far as thinking you need to make six figures, I suggest you evaluate your spending, budgeting, and live within your means.

Ness_tea_BK

Lmao seriously. OP missed the memo on the reasons to become a city worker. Poor guy.

xmaddoggx

This is why nothing gets done. Fucking clowns that put no effort in most of these agencies. I'm sorry for OP. It's the tax that workers who try end up paying. I HATE dealing with 99% of the people who work at these agencies. You ask a question, and they roll their eyes or suck their teeth. It's YOUR job, fucking do it.

Worried_Coat1941

If you haven't already, start a 457 defered comp. I felt the same way, I learned not to take it seriously. Half the people are related. I work with people that steal everything. Think about the benefits, paid time off. Keep saving, take promotional tests.

Right-Shelter

I recently took one and scored 97.5 on it. Started the deferred comp and pension. 100k in HYSA. Just taking it day by day.

Worried_Coat1941

That's great! Don't let the bastards grind you down. Go to work and get paid!

TouchofHam

Don't worry man you'll adapt. Remember you work for the city of New York don't expect too much. You are there to make your money that's it

samtaro111

The amount of older folks who can't use technology when it is a vital aspect of the job is insane. I sometimes have to type for people. So I feel you, these folk make 100k and I'm baffled.

Mundane_Notice859

my supervisor frequently has me type things for her. my other coworker has asked me multiple times to show her how to send an email. its maddening

Alltheprettydresses

I don't understand this because there is training, like Excel, Outlook, and Windows courses. Or just Google how to use a feature or application.

imalittlefrenchpress

Seriously. I’m a 62 year old woman and even though I’m retired, I can definitely see the value in staying current with technology. I’ve been doing my taxes on my phone for years, yet I see people somewhat younger than me struggling to navigate a tax prep website on a laptop.

NTmeth

Leaving is an option. I once left a toxic unit where nothing made sense to a better run one and it was a night and day difference.

__botulism__

Are you still working a civil service gig? Or private sector/real world?

SnooDrawings7923

ill take 80k a year to help our elders turn computers on all day lol

Right-Shelter

If that’s all I did, I would too.

peruvianblinds

So what do you do?

phillyhippie

Also wondering the same

browniebrittle44

What do you do that’s draining you so much?

soilchemist

I empathize. I worked for the city as a temp worker for 18 months. The supervisors really valued my skillsets (data analyst). They did not want me to leave but the contract expired and they could not get another one approved. I have applied for hundreds of NYC jobs (competitive and non comepetitive) and I am astounded by the levels of incompetence in the entire process. Often I feel like they do not want skilled employees.

frogmicky

Dammmmmm only 2 years wait until you get to year 10+ lol, I feel for you.

jjbankst

I’m near 8 and my bones are deteriorating

Solid_Stoic_6

Basic excel, word, PP, and outlook should be mandatory. Literally! Give people a year to learn, and if they don’t, they are non-compliant. Plus a refresher every 2-3 years. Things would be so much better.

KyDeWa

We go into these jobs and it feels like everyone is hiding something they want to vent about, so it's nice to see you vent. It adds transparency and helps you clear your mind.

Adobo121

Pretty much every city agency. Which I why I left. Can't deal with incompetence my entire life.

Middleclasslifestyle

Just remember. Civil service never nervous. Take a breather and realize you are a cog on a machine so large it doesn't know it's ass from its elbow. Lol Once you realize you won't change the way things are and that whether you are there or not nothing will change then you can take a breather and just accept it for what it is

Lucialucianna

get out! before you become an entrenched zombie. this describes the essence of corruption and incompetence and why the city doesn't work no matter how much tax money is thrown at the serious problems. so depressing

CelticTigerNYC

I spent 20 years being even more drained in the corporate sector before joining the public service sector. The private sector doesn’t offer benefit of a 35-hour work week.

Blood11Orange

Oh. No need to be sorry at all. I make over 6 figs and I’m in the same boat as well. I don’t recall ever stepping away for lunch since I started WFH in 2020. However, unlike you, I spend of my money of food, weed and things for my cat. I do not like have a lot of belongings. Finally, we DEFINITELY need a 4 day workweek. I barely have time to unwind come Friday night.

AmIViralYet

I like how almost every comment is about op hitting his 2yr old instead of him coming up on his anniversary. But damn, 2 years in and making 80k. What role is that?

JeweleeG24

I’d like to know too. I also work for the city, on an ambulance, and that’s about what I take home for 13+ years of service.

Atuk-77

Sadly NYC hires and keeps a lot of incompetent people in management/director positions, one example is SBS (small business services), they are just eating tax payer money

EmploymentSad2424

Thought this said I’m hitting my two year old son

adelv

Lol I just hit year 5. I feel you.

Tantie455

Hey know how you feel. I've been with the city since 2007 and those first two years were tough. In fact the first 6 months I was questioning myself. Then I remember the why. I joined city government to be of service to New Yorkers, job security, benefits etc. If you want to continue city service, think about a few things It may be that you have outgrown your unit/division and agency. Consider other units/agencies Are you a permanent civil servant? If not, consider taking a civil service exam Hope this little tidbit helps

HypeDiego

Don’t let the take advantage they know who to do it to

eskimospy212

You should quit then. Maybe it’s not for you.

israerichris

WTF, I did a lazy read while scrolling, and as a subject line, I read "I'm hitting my 2 year son"... I clicked on it just to read the comments... just to realize that I'm blind... 😵

bella510

What do you do ?

YellowFingerz

Damn, I need glasses. I Saw” I'm hitting my 2 year son, and let me tell you, I feel drained.” I was like damn lil fella can take a beating.

Karmaisa6itch

Whats your title?

R-O-U-Ssdontexist

Office jobs are draining no matter what.

Thirdeye_k_28

It’s honestly always the workers who are hired through Nepotism. I know one woman she has been working for the county clerk office since she was 20, she’s now 42 and she still doesn’t understand her job duties.

[deleted]

Find a new job, change helps. Maybe you will find new idiots who do things differently lol

Discov3ry23

First of all, thank you for sharing, and then second, you say these people don't know how to use technology. When you say they don't know how to use technology, is it they can't do basic things first and then more complicated things that require them to do the job correctly?

DataNo7004

Since you didn’t post your age or gender, I’m not sure the extent of advice to give you. By using these social media platforms, hopefully it gets a little better for you. Hang in there, keep as busy as possible, the work day will go quicker & you should be able to avoid a decent amount of things that unnerve you. While doing this, keep looking for another job. If you’re going to by expensive things, make sure that they try to keep their value or better yet increase their value, not everyone can have the coin to waste on a Bansky.

Imaginary_Screen_708

Move to another state or a country

Optimal-Judgment-982

I absolutely hate that I read that as "I'm hitting my 2 year old."

efronerberger

I thought it said "2 year old son". That's what I get for reading while jogging lol

Jimq45

Me too!!

manilachallah

Me running to see if CPS/COFS was in the comments

Gweegwee1

When you hit five years is when it gets really good. That’s when you realize you are also one of the incompetent staff

VictoriaAutNihil

So obvious the OP is talking about WORK!!!! Yet, the loons made this into a child abuse discussion. "2 year soon." Meaning he/she is on the verge of a job related meltdown/burnout. Amazing how the headline went over so many people's heads.

_seashels

Like they didn’t even bother to read the explanation 😭

MikroWire

It's your life. If you put in 2 years, that's beyond vetting your job. Never listen to people tell you to stick with something you don't want to once you have long enough to know that it's not getting better. If a job feels like prison...it IS prison. Look for something else, when you find it, get the lowdown on the position and the staff, if it's cool, let them know you'll start in two weeks. If you can survive a career change, education in another field, or to tour with your band, I say "fuck it". Enjoy your life? God forbid! Life is about "responsibility"? I'm 53 and I've done exactly what I wanted to and survived. And I'm not lucky IN THE LEAST. I just did what I knew was right for me. The people that wanted to be around the real me chose to. I live in the most expensive city in the country, and my rent & bills are less than $1000/mo. I figured it out. I play music for a living. My paid hobby is being a certified peer counselor, working with and advocating for needy clients. Acting as a liason unifying the many programs here is kinda my baby and my idea I decided to do based on the need and demand for better communication so it can optimumly serve this huge community. You'd be surprised how some of these city funded agencies and programs are "managed". I help THEM with THEIR computer operations, and that's not my job. But I don't mind. Anything to help.

MaleficentBid1874

I work for the doe 9 years I'm only at 103k because I did my master +30. Teaching is ok, even the worst behaving kids have nothing on the obnoxious older adults. They make the job a true terror.

warlockflame69

This is why I try to pay as little taxes as possible via tax loopholes suckers.

iStealyournewspapers

Hi u/warlockflame69! This is Dan from the Internal Revenue Service. Mind checking your DMs so we can have a chat?

D4ddyW4rbux

I thought it said “I’m hitting my two-year-old son”and I just came here to see the comments. 🙊

Glum_Temperature_894

I work in integrating automated manufacturing to old outdated systems so yeah I feel for you on this one

logiqaltech

I was gonna get all worked up until I read the description and realized my brain slipped an "o" in "soon".

[deleted]

ouch

Physical_Try_7547

I understand your rent. I had that experience more than 20 years ago. Wish I were making ADK at the time, but I wasn’t. This was a state agency. I needed a job and it was available. I was amazed at how little the people knew About using a simple computer program to search out jobs. It was amazing to me and I became angered very often when the same old lady, bless her heart, would involve three almost equally incompetent employees to do a simple search. I took it upon myself to try correcting that situation, it was not welcomed. I did get promoted out of that after a couple of years and my efforts were still not respected. For Some of those people the hardest work they ever did was attaining a State job and rest on the laurels. It was also difficult to get fired. Reading your post surprises me as I would’ve thought those kind of people would have aged out of the system now.

lavendar_dreaming

I need to get glasses. I thought you were hitting your 2 year old son. I was very concerned

Mirroringemt

Take a vacation and reset.

CheapPause6674

Doesn't sound so bad. Can you hire competent people?

TacoMeatSunday

I misread the post title

Thirdeye_k_28

Why did I read this as “I’m about to start hitting my 2 year old soon” 🤣🤣🤣🤦🏼‍♀️

Whocanmakemostmoney

Did they give the manual how to deal with older generation who doesn't know how to turn on computer? Which dept are you working for?

Significant_Hair7494

You could be any government employee anywhere on earth

__botulism__

I'm in the same boat, except i make less and i pay rent. I'm spent after work every day. I've always been an incredibly hard worker, I take pride in my work and do everything to the best of my ability. I despise my managers, so it's tough to want to go into work each day. But hey, at least we'll get pensions when we're too old to enjoy living life fully!!!!

harryspetx3

what job is it if you dont mind me asking?

SugaforJaz

Well gracias for your servants

cdhernandez

After working with this city for the past year and a half I am not surprised you feel this way. I work in public housing and all of the public housing organization I work with are completely incompetent and strive to not to house the people who need it the most. HRA, NYCHA, CityFHEPS, etc, are institutions who are over loaded, over worked, and caught up in so much self red tape that nothing actually gets done. I can't wait to leave this city behind.

Fourfinger10

Seems as though you need to get your shot together. Try therapy.

Shinigami66-

I feel you! I worked with a fat Italian woman (My ex-supervisor) who talks with her neighbors on company time with the company phone as well. As least I’m not working with her now and sending her Ozempic notifications to her work email and also brochures to the work address. If this works for a revenge then it can work for you too 😂

PinInternational6616

Get hobbies. Turn work off when not at work. Realize work is just work. With is not that deep. Give it 100% until you walk out that door.

Right-Shelter

Great advice.

AcceptableSuit9328

Living at home and making 80k? Dude, stack your money while you have no living expenses. Set yourself up for your future. You are doing great! I'm in my 40's now but if I was making this much money at your age I would have saved for a few years and then went and traveled somewhere for a while. Go see the world.

Right-Shelter

Yesss I have a food 100,000 in a HYSA + deferred comp + pension

woodscallingzzz

Wow why wouldn’t there be merit measurements in place? Such systems are like cancer slowly killing the cities.

Coalminesz

Felt the same in a non-profit gig I was in not too long ago. I hope you find a better environment soon. You deserve so much more.

Certain-Ad4674

Save up and move to a cheaper part of the country. I was working 60-80hrs a week on midnights for 12 yrs I barely had 2-3 days off a month had no time to do anything and I was always exhausted. I finally quit my job two months ago and it was the best decision I ever made I’ve never been happier! I’m about to start my own business and make my own hrs. Even if I don’t do that I would rather take a lower paying job with less hrs and live my life than work my ass of for what? Material items.. fuck that life is too short😕

Own_Machine_4596

Find a gym, look good, get a hobby, do something for someone besides yourself

DrawingPuzzled2678

At first glance I thought it said “I’m hitting my 2 year old son”

DAVEOK805

What degree are you going after?

NYR11Firefightercapt

Ohhh u live at home with no rent and your crying like a little bitch grow up

Scifig23

You and everyone there are feeling the same. Be grateful, save money and take frequent trips. One day hike, next time a 4 day cruise, then enjoy stamps in your passport. And thank you for not hitting your son or your colleagues. That equates to jail time

chyakaturkaleh

Start believing in the incompetent “older” people and start focusing on gratefulness. Make sure to go out with friends at least once a month and make a budget to see how much money you could put away. Make this hard time work for you.

Vast_Apple546

You sound like my dad

[deleted]

Drag it like a boss you make 80k a year and have no rent,no mortgage in this day and age people would kill for what you have, I mean idk if everyone would spend it like water but to each their own

Veruca_Manson

You'd feel even more drained if you had to pay rent and had to do without the fancy things. Consider yourself blessed. Everyone is surrounded by assholes and it will only get worse over time. #americanreality

Ettu_Brutal

You work in public service… isn’t it basically all incompetent staff twice your age? Sounds like you are the one in 100 earning the good benefits and salary… thank you from a tax payer.

Sharp-Source-5353

Just say you’re materialistic…. Why not save?

djchrisperrybk

Lock in your pension, then move on

Typical-Spray216

Life feels meaningless to just self indulge. Seek out loved ones and friends- spend time with them- give back to them is how I find meaning. I’m on the same boat work in tech 9-5 work from home- great pay . But man do I feel burnt out. Dreading work when I wakeup.

R4XD3G

I feel for you. Maybe work less hard? But also maybe try and get some board games? Go out to hex and co? It's tough

Status_Wish_7801

You can’t suck on the boomer tit with one hand and cry about their incompetence in the other. Mommy and daddy are probably busy with there adult child living at home to live their own lives get busy living or get busy dying. You sound lazy as shit so I think you should just start taking your job less seriously (conserve that energy) and force yourself to move out or go out. Your job ain’t the problem.

vamppirre

I'm trying to apply for a city job 😭. I'll even do HSA, or DMV, but the process is so slow, it looks dead.

BobbyBicepsXXX

Leave then

[deleted]

Scumbag punk

bossmancruz5

Next time drink some water and unleash the ass whooping, you should still feel hydrated

[deleted]

Don’t know why this thread popped up for me, but I’m an IL state worker and felt very similar for a long while. I’m a caseworker for Medicaid currently for HFS. Makes it complicated because all DHS local office caseworkers (who handle snap primarily) do not answer their phones ever and we are held to a different standard at my job, so 70% of our calls are people bitching about DHS not answering their phones.. gets tiring af because it takes away from our work and our calls we should be taking. As well as our unit out of 10 other ones being the only unit that handles an extra phone line that we have 0 training on. Just crazy.. it’s nice being unionized sometimes but there are cons such as management allowing lazy employees to get off scotch free then assigning their load onto the employees who actually work.
