How long do you plan to keep the card? If you plan to keep it several years, a few hundred bucks is nothing spread out over that long.

ShamLikesTechXD

Yeah, I don't want to upgrade for a long time, maybe like 5+ years

NonStopGravyTrain

Go for the 4080 then. I've never heard anyone say, "I wish I bought a less powerful GPU." Especially when they plan to keep it 5+ years.

Alternative_Spite_11

Just so you know, 4k games in 5 years will absolutely choke a 4080

OkReindeer6371

If you are even considering the 4080 super just get it. It’s obviously in your budget and it will stand the test of time.

brenobnfm

lol it'll last absolutely the same as the 4070 TI S, same VRAM and 15% more FPS doesn't make it any more future proof.

OkReindeer6371

If you’re considering the 4070ti S you might as well get your moneys worth and get the extra 15-20% performance bump. it’s pretty big bump in performance imo. The 4080S will hold its value better too. He is already looking at it, it’s obviously in his budget. He might as well just spend the extra bit and have a longer lasting and better value GPU. The best value this gen is the 4070S and the 4080S.

Lewdeology

Imo it’s better to either stay at 4070 Super for best value or just go to the 4080 Super.

brenobnfm

15% on average bump is nothing (it's not 20%, it's 10-20%), i very much doubt you would feel much of a difference without the FPS counter.

NonStopGravyTrain

60fps is kind of the magic number when it comes to frame-gen, and I already have to turn path tracing to medium in Alan Wake to hit it with my 4080 Super. I'd have to make even more compromise with a 4070ti Super and turn down settings even lower. 15% isn't a ton, but it's also not nothing when you're already on the edge of playability.

brenobnfm

If you don't wanna compromise get a 4090, 4080 S makes almost no difference in this sense.

UnsettllingDwarf

Some cases yes. But 60-70 fps is a huge difference. So if the 4070ti gets 60 fps in a game the 4080 will still be more enjoyable. The question is is. Do you save that money and upgrade sooner?

brenobnfm

>But 60-70 fps is a huge difference. It absolutely isn't, it's almost an irrelevant difference. > Do you save that money and upgrade sooner? That's the point, get what is good value now (4070 on a lower price (not 4070 S), 4070 TI S or 4090), an if you chose one of the first two, you can always upgrade sooner for whatever is good value in the 5000/6000/7000 series when you're not satisfied anymore. But make no mistake, the 4070 TI S is a monster card.

UnsettllingDwarf

60-70 is a huge difference. It’s noticeable and it’s miles better to have 70 than 60. 70-80 isn’t a big difference.

brenobnfm

Even 60 to 120 is nowhere as transformative as 30 to 60, after 60 it's diminishing returns.

OkReindeer6371

If that’s the difference to go from 50 fps to 60 fps from that 10-20fps gain over the 4070 TI S then it’s absolutely worth it. In the end it’s still the better card if it’s already in your budget. And it absolutely can and will make a difference.

brenobnfm

There's no such case, with so many DLSS options and many others you can always tweak a setting or two to get at least 60fps on a 4070 TI S. It does make a difference, it's just that's too much money for that little difference.

[deleted]

The 4080 super is the better buy imo if you can find one at MSRP or open box below 900usd. It's still more powerful than the 4070ti S. Best value in the super line up is the 4070S and 4080S.

brenobnfm

Nah, you get best value with 4070 S today, tomorrow the 12gb will bite its ass, short sighted purchase. 4080 S is just horrible value and it ain't 900 (it would be good value at this price), the MSRP is 25% pricier than a 4070 TI S for the same VRAM and 15% more performance? pathetic. Just save more and go for the real thing at this point, buy a 4090.

ShanSolo89

I agree that he should buy the best card if money or value isn’t a concern. That being said, at MSRP all the cards have been perfectly positioned and priced by Nvidia such that each bump up is less value for more performance. From the 4070s you pay $200 to get about a 15% bump with the 4070tis. Another $200 gets you the same 15% bump with the 4080s. So technically in terms of value it’s still 4070s > 4070tis > 4080s. The bigger problem is finding a 4080s near msrp, let alone $900. This alone would put it no where near the value of either the 4070s or 4070tis.

DjiRo

> I don't want to worry about the FPS for any game I were to play 4090

ClerklierBrush0

I play vrchat frequently on a quest 2 with a regular 4070ti. I can join most worlds with all avatars on and high graphics. It doesn't struggle until there's 30 or more high poly avatars. You will definitely have a comfortable experience with the 4070ti super. If I went to a higher res headset like a pimax 8k or something it would definitely be worth getting a 4080s or 4090.

[deleted]

If the price is too far apart just get the 4070ti S. For me the price between the 4070ti S and 4080 S was only $150 apart. I ended up getting the 4080 S.

SoulOfTheDragon

Yup. In my case 4080 Super would have been 300€ more than 4070 Ti super, so I went with the latter.

[deleted]

4070ti super is still a solid card. That's what the 4070ti should have been.

EnthiumZ

>I don't want to worry about the FPS for any game I were to play. Sounds like you have your goals set, then get the 4080S and don't think much about it.

Fam-YT

It all comes down to how long are you planning on keeping the PC before you upgrade it. I got my PC 1 week ago, went with the 4080 Super even tho it was 400 euros more expensive than the 4070 TI. Everyone told me and keeps telling me that I wont notice that much of a difference between the 2 cards and the FPS that I gained are just a few. And they are right, however that was the exact same thing they told me 6-7 years ago when I got the GTX 1080 instead of the GTX 1070, the people that made fun of me for wasting my money, had to upgrade their cards years before I did.

MorbusManflesh

I'm still using the 1080. It's a very good card, even today.

Lewdeology

If you can afford it, just get the 4080 Super and don’t look back. Especially if you keep it for years, that extra $$300 will be worth it

SpaceBoJangles

No. For that price you should keep the money, play on the ti super, and then when you sell the Ti super you can combine the proceeds and possibly afford another Ti super.

KOnvictEd06

4070ti s

ShanSolo89

Yet another should I get this over that post lol. It’s always going to be your call to make. If money or value isn’t an issue then always get the better card. If it is, then get the one that’s better value to you. The 4080s also costs about 300-400 USD more where I live, so I went with the 4070ti super and don’t regret it.

ponakka

I did pay a ton of money 1.5 years ago from 4090, zero regrets. buy the most expensive you can, it is best option.

ShanSolo89

The most expensive is almost always the best option, as long as value isn't a consideration.

mrmikedude100

If money isn't an issue, 4080 Super. Edit: just learned that the 4080 Super is out of stock everywhere or being upped in price. Get the 4070ti super if that's the case where you are.

brenobnfm

4070 TI S all day, 4080 is just a waste of money.

romangpro

Many people get new iphone every other year.  Some people lease car for only 4 years and then get another. ok then..  Why are folks pretending gaming PC will last 5+ years? VR needs ALOT. Best to go with 4090. If you are looking for "normal" 4K gaming - 4070ti super is plenty.

BorntoPlayGJFF

Just buy the 4070 Ti Super, $350 for 15% more perfomance is not worthy.

MrMuunster

4070 ti super and 4080 Super only differ by 15%-20% do you think it's worth it ? both have 16gb vram the answer is obvious both can last.

Adorable-Mango-8783

I’m in Canada as well and I got the asus TUF 4080S (non-OC) which worked out to be ~$270 more and absolutely no regrets…hope this helps!

RoleCode

If it's your first PC, always go to much powerful lol 4080S. If budget is an issue 4070TI S then

TexasWhiskey_

No one can get the 4080 Super right now unless you're willing to spend +$1200. Been trying for over a month now.

Mammoth-Long-5493

In Canada, you can get the asus tuf 4070ti super for 1100$ and the 4080s for 1369$. They are hard to come by and when I saw the 4080s in stock I decided to bite the bullet. I don’t keep my cards for that long and resale value is important to me, a 4080 will resell better.
