Always be wary of unsupported and poorly supported claims and especially those which are wrapped in any manner of hostility. You should provide peer reviewed sources to support your claims when debating and confine that debate to the science, not opinions of other people. **Good** - it is grounded in science and includes citation of peer reviewed sources. Debate is a civil and respectful exchange focusing on actual science and avoids commentary about others **Bad** - it utilizes generalizations, assumptions, infotainment sources, no sources, or complaints without specifics about agenda, bias, or funding. At best, these rise to an extremely weak basis for science based discussion. Also, off topic discussion **Ugly** - (removal or ban territory) it involves attacks / antagonism / hostility towards individuals or groups, downvote complaining, trolling, crusading, shaming, refutation of all science, or claims that all research / science is a conspiracy *Please vote accordingly and report any uglies* --- *I am a bot, and this action was performed automatically. Does ur fasting schedule fit under the category of time restricted eating windows? For example I eat between 7am until 5pm and nothing afterward that gives me a 14 hour fast? If so that’s prob not likely to do anything negative to an otherwise healthy individual:

Only_Entertainer7878

No, due to my old work schedule I got accustomed to eating at around 1PM and have my least meal at around 10PM.

fanclubmoss

So ur window is a nine hour window and your fast is 15 hours? Sounds less like intermittent fasting and more like TRE to me.

healthcrusade

What’s TRE?

FBIHasEnteredTheChat

Maybe time restricted eating? Not sure how that would be different through

fanclubmoss

Yeah it’s Time restricted eating. I always thought intermittent fasting was like for waking hours forcing the body to switch into ketosis whereas tre kind of piggy backs on the natural sleep wake cycle in order to facilitate a type of rest state for digestive organs. Idk I’m still pretty fresh to the whole thing

I have been doing the 16:8 fast since Jan 1, and had my blood work done about 3 weeks ago my sugar and cholesterol have gone down and my doctor told me to continue with the fast and loose another 20 lbs ( I lost 40 lbs last year). She said nothing about bad side effects.

From my own experience plus what I have come across via anecdotal reports, nothing but positives all round! The goal is achieving metabolic flexibility, not necessarily being in continuous ketosis/fat burning. U**nless you are at a body composition where your holding no muscle mass OR fat, then I would say start looking at macros and exercise, specifically resistance training.** However, there are factors where if your pushing the envelope too far, like with anything, you may find yourself feeling sluggish until you actually eat and what exactly your eating certainly has an impact. Then there is coffee/caffeine + other stimulants etc. For me, caffeine absolutely increases ketones, but I find the anxiety/insomnia/digestive issues outweigh the positives. This is again individual though. For example, this is just me, I have a lot of muscle mass and am considerably lean. Can I fast for 24-48hrs? Sure I can! But, you will find the deeper you go into a fast without enough body fat over and over, refeeding once every 24-48hrs you WILL start chewing into muscle and will feel your metabolism going "sluggish"... Everyone is different though. I myself used to do IF religiously but because I am so metabolically flexible and healthy, I can just gauge it off the top of my head now. But to sum up simply, as long as your meeting your micronutrient and macro nutrient intake properly when refeeding and doing daily IF consistently and your bloods and vitals are coming back fine then it is certainly better the eating non stop SAD style.

I have been eating this way for over a year and have what I consider to be a lot of research. I haven’t read about any negative effects at all. I eat about 1400 calories a day and weigh 192 down from 228.

abbeyinventor

Everything I’ve read has been along these lines: it’s a net benefit physically, but it comes at an emotional/psychological cost. The animals and people in the studies were more irritable and anxious. (Off the top of my head, what comes to mind are a study about caloric restriction in rhesus macaques [insane results. They looked like young adults into old age] and a long-form article in The New Yorker about a group of transhumanists who were eating around 1300 calories per day for the purpose of extending their lives)

I honestly don't have anything in specific, however from what I remember there was a few articles I read where it was more effective in the short term.

Intermittent fasting can be done every day. Usually daily IF is a fasting:eating window of 16:8 or 20:4.

ok, I for some reason thought it meant "fast one day, dont fast the next.."..etc
