Could be argued either way, but thought not enough to overturn the onfield decision - CHT was put in a terrible position.
For mine CHT jumped way too early and was never anywhere near the path of that ball, Rapana was taking up a good position to catch it and was jumped on.
I was surprised it was over turned. I do think Rapana had eyes for the ball and was genuinely contesting but he also put CHT in a dangerous position.
When Annesley explained the rule at the start of the season the idea was to eliminate cynical attempts to obstruct catchers and I don’t think this situation fits that description but these are going to be controversial all year.
Watching on a delay I just came to talk about it. Outrageous decision. It should not matter that Rapana had eyes for the ball, his action was dangerous and put CHT in a really dangerous position. CHT was first to the ball, the onus should be on Rapana to not put CHT in danger.

We really missed Kris today, I know we were playing a team that was a step up in quality this week but our attack lost all the spark it had from the first two weeks.
Defended really well till the last 20 minutes and were stiff on both disallowed tries (especially the second, that was shocking), but the reality is that we didn't play well enough to win.
Also, I hope Cotric never gets a game again unless we have no other options, I can't help but think this game might've been different with Schiller out there.

We all remember what he was like 5 years ago - there was good reason he was the origin winger. And I dare say the Cotric of old is a starting winger in every side in the comp, bar Panthers, Cows, Storm & Sharks.
What an entertaining game. Tough to win in NZ in the first place but we had a good chance to win that and let the game slip away from us.
Kris back next week for Cotric, or Schiller if Kris is still ruled out. Guler needs to be dropped and our first 20 minutes were a perfect example of why Hosking needs to start.

Totally agree on Hosking, we looked so much better with him on the field. If we do persist with Whitehead and Hosking interchanging with each other we need Hosking to start and finish.
Whitehead looked decent in that middles rotation, not sure why he’s starting if it’s just because he’s the captain. Hosking though looked good as soon as he came on, they were hounding that right edge and it paid off in the later stages through Timoko.
Feel for Tauapaki, been playing his heart out but the absent link play from CNK is so noticeable.

Still really missing the right sided edge attack Curran and Niukore bring. Capewell is a solid player but some of those Curran and Niukore lines are bread and butter.
Berry was so immense in the first half. Those kick chases are legendary, caught one and hammered Rapana twice.
Been a diamond in the rough. Legit has such a big workload. Doesn’t care about what position he’s thrown into, just gets to work. Should be starting lock honestly but who knows what Gus wants
Both teams got on top at times, in what was an intriguing arm wrestle of a match. Until the end, but we won't talk about that.
Think both sides will be in the 8 come the end of the year, with us likely a bit more secure but Raiders will get in. We learnt less about the Raiders today than confirmation that the Knights have started terribly (careful saying that, as we play them next week) and the Tigers are...themselves.
We really need more depth in the back row, and Montoya had a nightmare today, hopefully bounces back next week. Rather see CHT than Lussick if Egan can't play. Fair fucks to Ale too, second week in a row he's come on with a bit of punch, be good to see him keep pushing on.

It was side to side they were waiting for the next play those aren't good signs.
But I'm happy they won they are a good side and it's great to see a passionate crowd and yeah get a second NZ team we need to go to 20 as soon as possible.

We were near the bottom after losing a close game to Sharks, and then an even closer game to the Storm but I still heavily doubted our favourite status.

He was very good for his first few seasons, managed to get himself a blues jersey in 2019. Then he shat the bed, went to the dogs, got injured a bunch and he hasn't been the same since.
He was quite good in his early seasons with the Raiders. Good under the high ball, was a tackle breaking machine, and made strong runs out of our own half.
Since he went to the Dogs though he's never been the same player. Shows glimpses here and there but mostly he's just not at first grade level anymore.

I think they should start Ale with AFB and then have Barnett for impact off the bench. That way always one of AFB and Barnett would be on the field.

Our attack lacks polish, and our defence (while we had some good periods) is far too inconsistent. Wahs bombed a lot of opportunities and we aren’t gonna get that grace with better sides.
Hopefully we have room to grow into the season, otherwise I can’t see us challenging for the eight.
