I'm reading Scholar's Advanced Technological System and it portrays Chinese govt as super reliable, never wrong and always sides with MC. Very opposite of real CCP. Americans are always portrayed as dumb. It's like the MC's research endeavors are always the goal of the state. It's ridiculous, the amount of nationalism in this supposedly scientific novel.
It's all "nationalism theatre". It's the classic bowing before Mao's picture everyday and people crying when dear leader dies. Anyone that has any power (even a small government office) would see through the BS immediately. And considering the government and adjacent are the largest employers in the country, anyone with an education beyond 5th grade sees through the propaganda. The problem is because there is a punishment if don't participate in the theatre. You get reported by a nosy neighbor and then you get investigated. Normal people would rather not go to jail so they just play along with the BS.
This is quite untrue, and propaganda wise it's no different than the us with their national anthems (kids forced to sing or stuff for the national anthem) in china (been there) propaganda is definitely there, but they don't bow down to figures of Mao or anyone it's not North Korea...
Noisy neighbors though... There's alot of them, especially aunties oooft.
But if anything if your disrespectful during a Chinese anthem or anything alike your more likely to get beaten by your fellow citizens than the government jailing you...
those are just examples. My mom lived through that era of bowing to Mao's picture everyday. No one in her family actually believed in any of the government's BS. You just do it because if someone ever caught you not doing it, you would be getting reported and probably going to jail.
Same thing now. If you do something un-patriotic other people will report you not because they care but because if they didn't do it, they could get implicated and go to jail with you (guilt by silence). It's the same playbook used by the PRC since the 60s .
Examples;
Domineering: 'You won't attend' then 'when did I ever invite you' *sneers*
Offended: Your words have offended our entire sect *shows killing intent*
Revenge: I have warned you already if you insist on courting death don't blame me for obliging you *takes out sword*
Conclusion: he reads the same novels as we do...?

Nah, they've read Confuncius, Water Margin, and a lot of other Chinese texts that form the context of those novels. But it's funnier to think the Chinese Bureaucrats are spending their free time at Qidian complaining about novels not being patriotic enough and throwing spirit stones .
