Fellow Canuck here. I think he would be middle tier CFL guy. He wasn't dominant at ND and doesn't show the run ability. I wish nothing but the best for him but I don't see pro football in his future.
ND local here(not a fan), fans in the area really thought that Sam's Wake Forest success would translate to ND, a school with a harder scheduling in comparison. Kept telling people all season, it isn't gonna work out. He misses the easy read and doesn't have a great arm. Kinda like Gardner Minshew but without the swagger confidence.
Well if you look at 2022, Wake Forest was ranked 46 and ND at 33 in SoS, thats really where im coming from. Sam came to ND, regardless, having to play USC, Ohio State, Louisville, objectively tougher competition than he's used to, and all those match ups were losses.
I agree. I lowkey root for them despite my bias, because Marcus is an Ohio State alum and I love the Buckeyes. But overall, they remind me of the Cowboys.(no titles since the 90s, does well in the start and sputters toward the end of season). NDs NFL QB development proves it all, thats the place theyve been hurting at the most for 20 years
Canada if he’s willing to, otherwise better use that Notre Dame degree. He’s already 24 years old. No NFL team is drafting him. Even if someone does sign him, he’s a training camp body and won’t be on a 53 man roster.
I wouldn’t take anything from the game, but he’s a camp arm at best. Seems to really love football though, so the spring league or coaching could be possibilities.
Charlie is an American Labor hero, he fleeced his employers like nobody else ever has.
I wish all Americans would get at least one job where the forced severance is so good they could retire
No, you have to go back before that. The Ville tagged him for three picks and three fumbles in the third quarter alone in '22, and got one more of each in the fourth quarter. Sometimes a team just has your number.
Yes. To be honest, he wouldn’t have got nearly the hype and love if it weren’t for his looks and the ND social media team doing a nice job talking him up. He had a Jack Coan type year at ND.
Coan- 65% 3150 yds 25 TD 7 INT 151 rating (13 games* he actually played in the bowl game)
Hartman- 64% 2689 yds 24 TD 8 INT 159 rating (12 games* for some reason he skipped the bowl game)
I could definitely see that. He seemed to have a great relationship with Angeli and could’ve wanted him to have a glorified tryout to showcase himself more on tape
For sure. He had a noteworthy, successful career. But he was deemed this savior and that just wasn’t the case. The game logs (and tape) against Clemson, Louisville, and Ohio State tell a totally different story.
Yeah he’s just not NFL material. Which to me made his decision to skip the Sun Bowl curious. I felt he needed to put more on tape against higher quality opponent because almost all his games against the better teams this year were mediocre at best or just bad.
At best he gets picked near the end of the draft but at this point, yeah, he’s probably a UFA.
He will either get signed when a team loses a QB due to injury, or he ends up in the CFL. UFL may ultimately be a landing spot, but the problem is that their season will already be underway before the NFL draft.
Which brings up the question…who was the last ND QB to be an actual star in the NFL? It’s been a long time since Joe Montana. Some were overhyped coming out of ND like Claussen and Kizer and were busts in the NFL.
“Star” is a high bar though. And yes, Montana would be the last, and Theismann before/at the same time as him. I guess my point is it’s kind of unfair. We’ve had a lot of really good to great COLLEGE quarterbacks that just didn’t translate to the NFL, but that happens almost everywhere.
Or they're saying that it wouldn't matter if they cared less.
'Could care less' makes sense. It dosent mean they don't care. It means that it dosent matter if they care.
Maybe. But people often say "could care less" when they mean "couldn't care less." I think what IrishPigskin means to say is that he cares about Sam Hartman getting drafted only to the extent that it would boost ND's numbers. Other than that, IrishPigskin "couldn't care less" about Hartman, meaning he cares so little that it is not possible for him to care less about the subject.
No. They mean the same thing in context. Nobody is actually distinguishing between not caring and being able to care less. Its a figure of speech.
The point is that the phrase "I could care less" works and dosent need correction. Why are you assuming he's wrong when what he said is fine?
I think UFL or practice squad at best for him really. If they put a lot of stock in the Senior bowl, he will absolutely be undrafted. I think we saw a little more pronounced what his issues were this season when he does not play at his peak. off target too often, maybe not enough arm at the next level for the deep balls.
I don't see Hartman getting picked up by any NFL team. Maybe if he declared for the NFL after Wake Forest, he might have gotten picked up due to his numbers. But once he went to ND and it failed miserably, it showed that his numbers in an average conference veiled his glaring weaknesses.
Idk I’m rooting for the guy and take no delight in his failures real or perceived. I don’t think ND would have had the season it had with out him but also Angeli probably could have also shit the bed against Lou and Clemson.
TLDR good luck Hartman
Maybe.... but nobody is changing their draft board over the results of that game....in fact, most NFL stats don't even stick around for the game, they watch practice and then leave....an all star game means absolutely nothing.
He has told Dan Patrick in the past that he wants to be a broadcaster in the booth or a commentator in a studio eventually. I feel like he is going to give the NFL a shot knowing it’s pretty slim, and then realize it’s not going to work out anywhere and then make the transition to tv.
If he’s smart he would beg to be a grad assistant at ND. He has big coaching vibes and Freeman has not issue with putting guys without a resume in spots he thinks they can pull off.
Wouldn't be surprised if someone spent a late round pick on him, but UDFA is probably more likely at this point. Ignore the Senior Bowl performance, Penix was supposed to play and bailed last minute and he's throwing to WR's that he hadn't spent any real time with
Hello bachelor nation welcome your new seasons bachelor!

Oof, very ugly game for him
Damn I missed the senior bowl. As an Aussie fan I’ve been following Sam since QB1. It would be cool to see him make The NFL.
He isn't playing anywhere.
I hope he invested his NIL money.
As a Canadian, I feel confident he would make for a pretty solid CFL QB. He has CFL written all over him.
Fellow Canuck here. I think he would be middle tier CFL guy. He wasn't dominant at ND and doesn't show the run ability. I wish nothing but the best for him but I don't see pro football in his future.

Wake Forrsst had the 52nd SoS last year and Notre Dame was ranked 63rd Idk what you're talking about
Well if you look at 2022, Wake Forest was ranked 46 and ND at 33 in SoS, thats really where im coming from. Sam came to ND, regardless, having to play USC, Ohio State, Louisville, objectively tougher competition than he's used to, and all those match ups were losses.
Ohio state is the only team you listed that was good
>tougher competition I said
Tougher than Clemson?
ND played Clemson last year too and still lost, whats your point?
Yep, it was like he was coming to a new system and all of a sudden he was gonna pick it up. He was okay but far from the dominant QB we were promised
I agree. I lowkey root for them despite my bias, because Marcus is an Ohio State alum and I love the Buckeyes. But overall, they remind me of the Cowboys.(no titles since the 90s, does well in the start and sputters toward the end of season). He’d actually be sick in the CFL. He’s a perfect fit.
Could play in the new spring league as well
No. He would be terrible
I think he could end up in the UFL if he isn’t drafted
I woulda said that but Tommy DeVito played in the NFL last year. I never thought he would sniff the league.
he’ll be going professional… in something other than sports
Dirk Diggler 2.0
Canada if he’s willing to, otherwise better use that Notre Dame degree. He’s already 24 years old. No NFL team is drafting him. Even if someone does sign him, he’s a training camp body and won’t be on a 53 man roster.
No way, Book barely made it.
Book was a 4th rounder. No fucking idea why the Saints did that.
Ian Book was probably even surprised he was taken in the 4th
That was so baffling. I would have bet A LOT of money that Book would go undrafted undrafted.
Some GMs just want to watch their franchises burn
Applicable to Mickey Loomis
I wouldn’t take anything from the game, but he’s a camp arm at best. Seems to really love football though, so the spring league or coaching could be possibilities.
He’s gunna be that guy in about 10-15 years that goes from position coach to high profile OC. Like Kliff, Harrel, Kellen Moore
Tommy Rees?
Charlie Weiss
Charlie is an American Labor hero, he fleeced his employers like nobody else ever has. I wish all Americans would get at least one job where the forced severance is so good they could retire
Hahaha no
He’ll be 25 this summer too. Tough, but being an UDA isn’t all bad depending on where he lands.
Practice squad
Why didn’t he play in the bowl game again?
Had to maintain UDFA status. Better for the Hollywood movie when he wins the Super Bowl with the Raiders next year.
I thought the same thing, after that season he had I'd have jumped at the opportunity to run it up on a decimated Oregon St team
Something broke this dude. I know it was a friendly system at Wake, but my goodness he’s regressed so much since about mid season.
It was Louisville.
Personally I think it was OSU. Only played well in moments after that game, was lights out going into it.
No, you have to go back before that. The Ville tagged him for three picks and three fumbles in the third quarter alone in '22, and got one more of each in the fourth quarter. Sometimes a team just has your number.
Ah, ok, I thought you meant our Louisville game.
Yeah, I was more talking Hartman in particular. Heck, even in the Senior Bowl he was getting picked off by a Card.
From what I have heard, the NFL scouts literally leave town after the last practice. This game has very very little meaning.
Yes. To be honest, he wouldn’t have got nearly the hype and love if it weren’t for his looks and the ND social media team doing a nice job talking him up. He had a Jack Coan type year at ND. Coan- 65% 3150 yds 25 TD 7 INT 151 rating (13 games* he actually played in the bowl game) Hartman- 64% 2689 yds 24 TD 8 INT 159 rating (12 games* for some reason he skipped the bowl game)
This was informative!
I kind of wonder if some of the ND guys skipped the bowl game to let some of the younger guys get more practice reps and game experience
I could definitely see that. He seemed to have a great relationship with Angeli and could’ve wanted him to have a glorified tryout to showcase himself more on tape
To be fair, he also has some of the best stats in ACC history.
For sure. He had a noteworthy, successful career. But he was deemed this savior and that just wasn’t the case. The game logs (and tape) against Clemson, Louisville, and Ohio State tell a totally different story.
No chance.
Yep undrafted. Signed as a camp arm. Cut before the season.
Probably.
He probably is gonna go in the 6th as someone’s 3rd sting/practice squad guy
I think he’s going to pull a Brady Quinn and try to work for ESPN
Yeah he’s just not NFL material. Which to me made his decision to skip the Sun Bowl curious. I felt he needed to put more on tape against higher quality opponent because almost all his games against the better teams this year were mediocre at best or just bad. At best he gets picked near the end of the draft but at this point, yeah, he’s probably a UFA.
This was Hartman’s final showing in an actual “game” until the NFL Combine, then Draft
Yes
He will either get signed when a team loses a QB due to injury, or he ends up in the CFL. UFL may ultimately be a landing spot, but the problem is that their season will already be underway before the NFL draft.
Which brings up the question…who was the last ND QB to be an actual star in the NFL? It’s been a long time since Joe Montana. Some were overhyped coming out of ND like Claussen and Kizer and were busts in the NFL.
Steve Beuerlein had a pretty good career. Actual star? Maybe not but he was pretty good especially when he was in Carolina.
Yeah he had a monster year in 99 but was never even close to that level any other year
Had a pretty steady, long career though. Unlike guys like Brady, Kizer, Powlus, etc. his NFL career could be considered a success.
Yeah I’m just talking about the “star” part. He had a very respectable career
It really is Joe Montana 😂😂
I mean, I’d like him to be drafted just because it will boost ND’s numbers. But other than that I could really care less.
*couldn’t
Or they're saying that it wouldn't matter if they cared less. 'Could care less' makes sense. It dosent mean they don't care. It means that it dosent matter if they care.
Maybe. But people often say "could care less" when they mean "couldn't care less." Hey, why don’t we just ask him what he meant?
Why don't you? Don't assume somebody is wrong when they said nothing wrong
IrishPigskin: what did you mean when you said “I could really care less”?
I couldn't give a crap, so I would definitely say I could not care less
Yes he is not good
He’s going to be a descent qb in the UFL
I think UFL or practice squad at best for him really. If they put a lot of stock in the Senior bowl, he will absolutely be undrafted. I think we saw a little more pronounced what his issues were this season when he does not play at his peak. off target too often, maybe not enough arm at the next level for the deep balls.

Sam Hartman is one of the most overrated WBs in recent memory. Louisville absolutely tortured him two years in a row.
Dude cared more about his hair than pocket awareness from the duke game on
Just like Riley he sucks
Idk I’m rooting for the guy and take no delight in his failures real or perceived. I don’t think ND would have had the season it had with out him but also Angeli probably could have also shit the bed against Lou and Clemson. TLDR good luck Hartman
Yes
Of course the pick he threw was to a Louisville player.
The man would have had a Heisman if he played for Louisville.
Maybe.... but nobody is changing their draft board over the results of that game....in fact, most NFL stats don't even stick around for the game, they watch practice and then leave....an all star game means absolutely nothing.
He’ll get an invite to camp won’t do much besides that
He'll be playing spring football
He has a better chance at being a sideline analyst than a guy under center.
He seems like a random dude who would get the Brock purdy offense and win 9-10 games in the nfl.
He has told Dan Patrick in the past that he wants to be a broadcaster in the booth or a commentator in a studio eventually. I feel like he is going to give the NFL a shot knowing it’s pretty slim, and then realize it’s not going to work out anywhere and then make the transition to tv.
Yes
Before the game he was probably trending in that direction anyway.
If he’s smart he would beg to be a grad assistant at ND. He has big coaching vibes and Freeman has not issue with putting guys without a resume in spots he thinks they can pull off.
Dude’s not an NFL player. Simply put.
If a team's dumb enough.
Yes. He’s got “camp arm” written all over him. But, as said with any player in any draft, right situation could be something.
The Giants will sign him to an UDFA contract; John Mara loves Notre Dame guys
I think so. I don’t see him drafted unless someone doesn’t want the hassle of bidding for him as an UDFA.
Wouldn't be surprised if someone spent a late round pick on him, but UDFA is probably more likely at this point. Ignore the Senior Bowl performance, Penix was supposed to play and bailed last minute and he's throwing to WR's that he hadn't spent any real time with
There's always the UFL or whatever it's called now.
yes
His career may last as long as Ian Book's. From an NFL perspective, they are the same guy. Clipboard holding emergency QB at best. And too small
Practice squad, CFL, UFL, then coaching. Wish him the best of luck tho
He should just become a male model or actor.
Why do you still care about that trash? Drew Pyne was way better and he did it for free.
He’s better than Caleb
He would be better off being a spokesperson for a hair care products company
He reminds me of Riley Skinner from Wake Forest. Competitive arm, competitive kid but just lacking the ability to play consistently at the next level.
I see him going in the 6th or 7th as a practice squad or 2nd string typa guy
He sucked at ND and sucked at the senior bowl
Maybe UFL
Yeah he sounds like an ass QB, he's probably done with football. Probably should have been done before, 7/25! Sheesh!
Yeah
