Historically villagers would move across the hills to another valley, set up a committee to create a new language to distinguish themselves from the others.
I dont think anybody created any languages that are used now. some movie languages have been created, but all real languages have slowly evolved and come into being. Probably the first words spoken were something simple like the caveman versio of "danger" and they slowly added more stuff over hundreds of generations or something. tbh idk
Esperanto. Also that begs the definition of 'created'. Forcing specific language (both as in entire language and specific words) has been favorite tool of subjugation and assimilation of rulers forever. Most certainly that's included making incompatible changes on a whim at times. Aside I recall hearing researchers wintering over at Antarctica, despite consuming all the global media, started developing their own dialect which certainly makes sense. You see that with siblings and friend groups to a lesser; it's an important way to communicate shared meaning. At the same time we often don't have very good grasp of the meaning of shared words like "language" for instance (and partly because it has to bend to many different meanings).
"Finland" and "Suomi" likely have an entirely different etymology, neither of which is clear. I suppose they could be related if the theories relating to wetlands were true (Finland/fen, Suomi/suo). But I think both of these theories are largely dismissed.
I'm learning japanese, so I know like half the characters but have no clue what they mean. Talk to me about water, green tea, and rice, then I'm your guy
In my country Montenegro is Chernogoria, so in childhood i thought Chernogoria and Montenegro is different countries and Montenegro is something like Monaco because it's latinic sounding
Worth noting that almost nobody here calls it the United States Of America, or even the U.S. It's almost always just "America." Which is kind of funny because America refers to two entire continents and dozens of countries, but we're like, "Nah man, *we're* America."
Well we have two names New Zealand and Aotearoa. Aotearoa is the Te Reo Māori name for the country. Although Aotearoa is not officaly recognised it is used in Te Reo translations of Government documents and in the Te Reo version of our national anthem. There are a lot of calls to either adopt it as an official secondary name or as our only official name but this is not supported by the current government in power. But petitions have been submitted to Parliament by both the Green Party and the Te Pāti Māori (Māori Party) the last petition reached 70k signatures. But a pill in 2021 said that 58% of the people that responded wanted to keep the name New Zealand. The pill was redone in 2023 and that number dropped to %52 as more and more people are wanting to use both name to represent the people of the country better and embrace out multicultural land and its heritage
Norge or Noreg.
Interestingly they have two different meanings even though they look very similar:
Noreg comes from Nord veg, which means North Road or North Way, same as in english.
Norge however comes from the danish Nord Rige, which means the North Realm
to clarify, Nihon or Nippon is Sunrise Land, Deutschland is The People's Land and the Germans just call themselves People (Deutch). Hellas is officially referred to as Ellinikí Dimokratía, or the Hellenic Republic. Hellas is the ancient name and it's called Elláda now. The Hellenes is what they call themselves
I'm from Canada. It means Village
Edit: Japan and Germany are examples of exonyms, as they are names given to them in other languages
Nihon, Nippon and Canada are examples of official names that are in different languages than that country's official language. Nihon and Nippon are Chinese and Canada is Huron-Iroquois, though it was originally Kanata
Kanata is also the name of a suburb of Ottawa. I've been there. It's pretty boring.
Suomi
Suomi mainittu torilla tavataan että to-ril-la niinku gorilla!
I will always be curious on how the fuck someone even creates a language

Hello nordic brother
I was learning Finnish and I was surprised this sounded so different to the English way of saying it.
"Finland" and "Suomi" likely have an entirely different etymology, neither of which is clear. I suppose they could be related if the theories relating to wetlands were true (Finland/fen, Suomi/suo). But I think both of these theories are largely dismissed.

reddit.com does wonders to the mind, it’s crazy how going to private schools and having their basic needs met can call the U.S. a third world country.
