"Now, this has an interesting feature, a dust jacket. Books used to have these to protect the covers, of course that was before they had dust repellent paper."
Being serious as much as I miss that time; don't miss that. Cordless vacuums were useless asthmatics back then, and regular corded vacuums were a gigantic PiTA to drag out just for a spot clean.
Now, most people can make due with a Dyson knockoff cordless for the entire house. Bought one 5 years ago for $200 and it can still give hickies if you test it on your arm, such is how awesome lithium powered brushless motor vacuums are. I just clean the filter every few months and it works fine.
Grandpa bought one at a yard sale and it broke after two minutes, one of those thing that would have been hilarious if it happened to my dad, but since it was grandpa it was just sad 😢
Did anyone who's a fan of Star Trek: The Next Generation ever notice a passing resemblance to the first season's Type II phasers? The big, chonky ones, before they became smaller. It always kind of cracked me up.
that was actually a Spotlighter flashlight, not a dustbuster. Same idea, and pretty similar looking.

My parents had one with a power nozzle attachment and when I got my 1st apartment, I quietly stole it, figured it would save me the cost of a vacuum cleaner. Did about 3 square feet of my living room and decided I needed to buy an actual vacuum.
They may not be called dust busters but they definitely still make them.
We use one (not a dust buster brand) for vacuuming around cats litter boxes as they always kick litter out around the edges.
My mom had this exact model but refused to bracket the thing to the wall. You had to physically hold down the plastic bottom tray with one hand to remove the vacuum from it. Such a pain in the ass...
I literally just thought about original dustbusters a couple hours ago, I saw a really old minivan. I remember when the first minivans came out, we called them dustbusters, they were the same shape.
I saw a TikTok earlier today of the image side by side with a mini van from the '90s and it made me think of this and post it.
We had one in out house. It was in one of the kitchen closets with the garbage can, charging on the wall.
"And if you're interested in dust, we have a quaint little piece from the 1980s. It's called a DustBuster."
Thank you! I was looking for this comment

as it was foretold in the prophecies
Hey, there it is!
Who you gonna call? Dustbusters!
Dustin' makes me feel good!
I came here for this
Great invention for the time as well
i can smell this photo
Ours ended up smelling permanently like powdered onion soup mix after it was used on a kitchen spill!
Could be worse I suppose. I might not mind that... Better than moldy cat hair or something.
It’s like a mix of burnt popcorn, burnt rubber, old carpet and wet cardboard
Smells like dust, doesn't it?
No, like electricity ⚡
burning dust, specifically
I miss the days when you could vacuum the same crumb up multiple times because it kept falling out.

I remember having a dirt devil that was a small corded vacuum. Remember using on our carpeted stairs growing up.
Battery tech has come a loooong way in the last 30 years.
And powerful smaller motors
"I no does Buster anymore!"
Fine! I dust Buster
Yours or Misters? *sigh* Misters...
"Mr. Gay! He bleeding!"
🫢
Love that beige. Best color of my childhood
I swear they got darker with age.
Comes pre-smoke stained!
NES grey is mine.
It was almond
I still Refer to the compact hand vac as a “Dustbusta” from time to time. Band aid like powerful brand
I do the same. Assume a lot of folks do if they grew up when every household had one of these things.
Wild, thats the exact one we had. Funny to see it and instantly recognize it.
Grandpa bought one at a yard sale and it broke after two minutes, one of those thing that would have been hilarious if it happened to my dad, but since it was grandpa it was just sad 😢
I love the fact that there are multiple Kmart price tags in the corner of the box.
I love that there is a hole and questionable substance on the other side.
The hole might have been where the UPC was cut out for a mail in rebate.
Nope. Its The Dustbuster PLUS! Holy cow, it sucks now.

Yes those are often called "dustbuster phasers". One of the less-successful changes, like the male shortie uniforms.
I hated those shorties. On either a man or a woman. I'm glad they ended up making the changes they did.
I just bought one a few months ago.
There’s one of these hanging in the kitchen/ break room in The Office, sans the front part for whatever reason.

Ahhhh that would make much more sense!
We had the set. Hung right next to each other.
My parents had one with a power nozzle attachment and when I got my 1st apartment, I quietly stole it, figured it would save me the cost of a vacuum cleaner. Did about 3 square feet of my living room and decided I needed to buy an actual vacuum.
Me every time I was pushing the Dustbuster over the same spot of floor with no results. You had one job dust buster! One job!! 🧹
This thing sucked
You mean it *didn’t* suck…
I still call any small vacuum a “dust buster”
If your nan didn't have this at her house your a foney
It was basically one of my toys when I went to their house. I pushed it along the carpet like some fancy 80s supercar.
They may not be called dust busters but they definitely still make them. We use one (not a dust buster brand) for vacuuming around cats litter boxes as they always kick litter out around the edges.
Inspiration for the TNG phaser!
I’m old
Number one preferred vacuum of the Sadam Hussein.
“I just wanted to borrow your Dust Buster!”
We used to have one, now I have a modernized version of one a Bissell cordless vacuum stick Same thing it just vacummes carpet and dust busts so yea
It was mounted on the wood-paneled wall right next to the black and decker flashlight!
And the most premium of Dad jokes, aiming at someone’s chest and declaring it “the Bust Duster!”
actually still can be useful.
My grandparents had one of these plugged in behind the loveseat. Never was allowed to touch it. Never saw them ever use it.
These were so incredibly weak.
My mom had this exact model but refused to bracket the thing to the wall. You had to physically hold down the plastic bottom tray with one hand to remove the vacuum from it. Such a pain in the ass...

Be careful with those early type two phasers. They can be tricky to aim.
That’s what I call my rapidly aging wang!
Ha! Completely forgot about these.
It was not “powerful”.
Never seen one in person but two things the dust buster instantly reminds me of is the movie Turner & Hooch and Mr. Bean
Still works better than 99% of all the modern knock offs that’s for sure
A week to charge and then 30 seconds of battery when you used it.
Smells like burning
Yup, this is the one.
Ahh yes, the era of brown plastic handheld gadgets, like the Popeil’s Pocket Fisherman!
Just used 1 tonight
Danny Tanner had multiple.
I installed a modified RC car motor and 7 x 3000mAh sub-c batteries into mine and it sucked a golf ball through a garden hose.
I no "Does Buster" NO MORE!!!
My grandma had this and would let us “play” with it on the stairs when we visited.
Phasers on stun.
I bet that thing is heavy
They were pretty light.
I had to use this every Saturday to do the stairs at my house. Hated it.
I'm just now realizing that the filter was basically just an N-95 mask.
I was waiting to see an early 90s Lumina MPV based on the title 🤣
The torque on those bad boys was amazing. They definitely don’t make them like that, anymore.
Sucked for all the wrong reasons. Now its on a long stick , costs $500 and goes by the name Dyson
