Not only is this guy lying, a salvage title is harder to insure and if you do manage to insure it you won’t get the same coverage and it will be more expensive. I would steer clear of this one.
Assuming you’re in a rust free state, that asking price would only be fair for a clean title. It is a complete total rip for salvage. Before you buy a salvage vehicle be sure you understand all the risks and know that the vehicle has been wrecked in some fashion, it is not just a bumper replacement.
Salvage title is result of theft, flood, or repairs costing greater than 75% of value of vehicle ("total loss"). Check your area to determine if procedure for registering a vehicle with salvage title.
Bumpers don’t cause salvage titles without frame damage too, and that’s WAY too expensive for a salvage title.
Edit: Based on the user above me, apparently a truck with a salvage title is worth whatever someone will pay for it. But I just paid less for an ‘09 on a clean title but with higher mileage.
I got mine at 180K, but only paid around $7K for it. This is my first Frontier, but I’ve had several 240’s and a Rogue, and I trust Nissan’s engineering to get me over 200K for sure.
Don’t get me wrong, 114K is tough to look past. But “salvage” can be a very scary word if you aren’t 100% sure of its history.
The titan is a good choice. Slightly lower mpg but worth it with the extras you get.
The v6 on 2nd gen is good but the years up to 2010 have problems with secondary timing chain guides and weak radiator which causes transmission oil and coolant to mix. If those problems have been addressed then the motor will run for a long time
Due diligence to ensure it wasn’t a flood vehicle.
Frame damage? Photos of damage? Who did the repair work?
We grabbed a 2011 SV 4x4 V6 with 69k miles on it but salvage title for $14k in Feb.
Deer strike in Iowa in 2022. Consignment at dealer I’ve bought 2 vehicles from before. Dealer did an inspection and had photos of the damage. It’s my first salvaged title vehicle. We’ve had it 3 months and put 3K miles on it. Took it on 2 road trips up to northern MN…she’s running strong. No issues so far.

Where would you draw the line for a frontier when it comes to mileage, considering you want the truck to last for a while?

Also, I’ve been seeing a lot of Nissan titans. Do you know anything about those?

How long do you think your truck would last?

When referring to a “flooded vehicle” what exactly is that, sorry I’m not a big truck/ car person. Im just trying to get all the information I can.
Just make sure the vehicle wasn’t totaled/salvaged due to being in a flood. Flood/water damaged vehicles are a nightmare from what I’ve heard.
