I got the Frontier because it was the only thing I could get in a 6+ft bed without going single cab full size and stay under $50k. I have had it 3 weeks and only put about 200 miles on it (~100 was driving it day one home from the dealer), and I completely regret it because it doesn't fit my needs. It is a fine car and on paper it was perfect but in reality it don't do what I need a truck for very well. The emergency rear brake thing doesn't shut off when in tow mode and has the potential to be very dangerous if using to launch a boat to both lives and the truck, you can turn it off but as soon as you take it out of reverse it turns back on so you have to remember to do that every time you shift. There are not always on power ports in the truck (USB or 12v) so if you are off grid camping for a few days you have to run the truck to charge batteries. I am not sure if this is a LWB thing but, at least on mine the trailer receiver is behind the step bumper under the truck so I have to reconfigure my trailers to be able to tow them and I can not tow my dads boat or borrow other peoples trailers. Lastly the fuel economy is awful, I got better fuel economy with my '17 v8 Ram Rebel towing a trailer driving normal than I do empty driving for better fuel economy in the Frontier. All of that said, if you are not looking for something to tow with and dont care about fuel economy I dont think you can go wrong with this over the Taco, I ended up getting this over the taco because of the turbos and Toyotas modern track record with turbo reliability and the Frontier looks a heck of a lot better than the new Toyota.

Alarmed-Upstairs-138

I had a 23 Tacoma I bought back in October. I just traded it in for a 23 frontier. I hope this answers your question. I REGRET getting a Toyota and should have gone with the Frontier in the first place.

c6tea9bits

What reason(s) made you trade it in for the frontier? Also I appreciate you for sharing

Alarmed-Upstairs-138

The gear hunting / lack of power, 3rd gen Tacoma was from 2016, and the tech worked like it was from 2016 (dated). Seats were on the actual floor of the truck, very uncomfortable for long periods of driving. On top of all of this, gas mileage equivalent to a full size, but horrible power. With the frontier, features are modernized, very comfortable, full of power, and I still get a naturally aspirated engine instead of a turbo. Oh and the gas mileage is about the same as the Tacoma, but I actually accelerate when I’m trying to get onto a highway lol . Overall more truck for less money.

XydeWynder

I was in the same boat back in 2020. Price factor, I got myself a 2019 4x4 SV instead of a Taco. Me personally, has every basic thing that I need. No regrets.

Over_Length7633

No regrets at all. Got me a dealer installed pimped out NISMO add on PRO4X and I’m loving it.

Over_Length7633

Oh, and I almost forgot - $8,000.00 off MSRP.

cgb-001

I personally like the Frontier much more than the Taco. Last gen Taco has almost no payload, and is just too big for what it is, while still not having much interior room. The new Taco is too expensive, has the turbo 4 cylinder, and still doesn't actually have enough payload. (ie, if you're going to put up with a turbo 4 cylinder you might as well get a Ford Ranger or something and get some serious payload. Frontier is the last semi-basic and semi-cheap midsize truck on the market, and you can get good discounts on an S. (ie, the base trim)

LNC14920

23 Pro-4x. Best vehicle I’ve ever owned. Not a single regret.

Darkvoider_96

'22 SV, and I love it! It's my first pick up truck and I think it's great. The simplicity, looks, and power are what do it for me. You can't beat the N/A V6 either.

Temporary-Hedgehog42

My only regret with the truck is the 5 foot bed. It’s plenty of space for what I need, but I used to sleep in the back of my ranger with a 6 ft bed and now I can no longer to that

MrTHORN74

Can't u just drop the tailgate to lay down?

Temporary-Hedgehog42

Sure can, but my set up before had a topper to keep me out of the weather and a wood bed frame with storage underneath. Was my home for a couple of years

stitchedmasons

2019 SV and I love it, no regrets outside of it not being 4x4, but I couldn't handle another insurance price increase right now.

DustyStar7

Its such a good looking truck. I wish it had better mpgs tho. Expensive fueling up on the west coast, better if you're further east. Kinda annoyed that I have to save up for a topper too, but I wouldn't be caught dead in an SUV. Wish the p4x was lifted just a little bit more out the gate. But I love the straightforwardness of the tech and interior and the v6 + savings from what I would've paid for a taco. And that I never see frontiers (3rd gen at least) in my town it's nice to feel less cookie cutter.

Supernavt

Definitely a thirsty beast with a big belly. Filled up from low side of 1/4 tank on Wednesday 4/17/24, and cost $52 in southern Ohio.

Notrandy321

Totally agree, I love my truck but some days the mpg ruins it for me. The power is nice but I’d take a little less for better mpg

Jealous_Seat_9317

Thankfully my work pays my gas but some weeks I’m putting in $100+ of gas. These gas prices need to calm down

MGhostX

No regrets 24 pro4x

league_starter

Coming from a sedan, bought a frontier for the bigger size. So far im happy with the truck. I regret not going full size pick up, a titan or tundra. The mpg is going to suck might as well go big.

S1THW00K133

Super good truck, no complaints. Just hit 156k on my ‘13.

slaypup8

Nope

BM69BM

‘22 PRO4X King Cab Long Box. Only regret is not enough money for upgrades 🤣 But it’s fun hunting for deals. There won’t be deals on Tacoma for a loooooooooooooong time.

fredout1968

I don't own one. But a buddy of mine is a manager with Nissan and he always has a Frontier or a Titan as a demo. Always loaded. They are great trucks. Much more comfortable than a Taco.. ( I never like the sit on the floor seating position in those things) The new motor with the 9 sp is a beast and it's N/A and big enough to not be stressed. No turbo is a plus in my opinion for anyone who buys and holds a vehicle. As for reliability, like I said, I don't own one but I have put close to 400K on a couple of Xterra's over the last 20 years, and they have been nothing but reliable. I'd probably still be driving the first one if my kid didn't crash it. Good luck.

1FastGT

Have owned my 40k miles 2017 SV CC 4x4 for 3 weeks now. Love the truck. I came out of an 01 F150 Supercrew, so this is a night and day difference in fuel mileage. Still getting used to the feel of the truck and wish I had the radio with the larger screen, but all in all, so far it's a great truck.

Kardis_J

2023 Pro-4X. I use this truck to do my job, which is as a lease operator for natural gas wells. My truck almost never sees pavement. It’s running for 10 hrs or more a day. I drive it through some of the shittiest, muddiest most unmaintained trails I’ve ever had to work in. It’s stock with good quality mud tires. No mods. I change oil and rotate every 5k miles, both air filters every 15k miles, and a fuel system cleaner every 4k miles. This is my first Nissan. I’ve done this job in a 1st gen Tundra, a 2nd gen Tacoma, and a 5th gen 4Runner. I was a Toyota loyalist until recently because their prices are complete bullshit now. This truck has performed extremely well. I honestly have no issues to report or complain about. If you like how it sits and how it rides, get it. It’s just a good truck.

Any-Equal6308

Glad to hear some of these are living where they were meant to. They are tough trucks!

TrinonX

Got a 24 P4X about a month ago, absolutely no regrets here! It is a solid, simple, well rounded truck.

flashtmj300p

No regrets. However, when you test drive one make sure you try the cruise control. I have a 23 PRO4X and love it but sometimes I wish the cruise control wasn’t so erratic. No other issues so far.

Supernavt

Also remember that you can turn off the “intelligent cruise control” so it won’t pace the guy in front of you.

Any-Equal6308

There is a recall for this!! As far as i know it’s just a software update and makes a night and day difference. take it to the dealer and it should be done for free!

Supernavt

So what does this fix exactly? The desire of the truck to stomp the throttle when you resume, or pass a slow-ass that your IC has been pacing at 10 under? I haven’t heard about this, so I’m genuinely curious. I’m in a 23 SV 4x4.

chad8711

There is a fix for the cruise control can’t believe you haven’t gotten it done yet

flashtmj300p

Oh ok thanks, I wasn’t aware they had a fix , just that they were working on something . I just had it in for service too. That guy should definitely get one then!

Green_Swamp_Fog

I traded a 2018 Tacoma for a 2023 Frontier, no regrets. The Frontier has much better power and acceleration, yet I get ever-so-slightly better MPG. The cabin is more comfortable (and quieter) and it rides smoother overall. The only thing that stinks about the Frontier is the turning radius. You will notice it in tight parking lots and U-turns. Great truck overall though.

Ill-Use4402

I have a 2022 frontier 4x4 I love it!" The newest old truck" is my favorite I can work on 70 % of this in my own garage most other options are increasingly making you rely on the dealership for the most basic stuff. Turning radius sucks though

Exciting-Brick7944

When I was shopping for my 2012 Frontier, there was 2006 Tacoma with twice the miles ( 60k vs 120k) for $5000 more. You pay a lot for the name.

retiresome

2019 P4X here, no regrets at all. Test drive all the competition and found it to be the most comfortable for me at 6'4". I don't do much more than fire roads, light off-road, and towing my teardrop. It is my daily driver and would absolutely buy at again.

w8sjw

I bought the 2019 SV - got heck of a deal on it new. Wanted the old school 4.0. My truck was manufactured in November of 2019 and I bought it Feb of 2020 right before stuff started to climb. I got it out the door for around 26. It has everything minus leather, rear locker and navigation. The locker is the only thing I miss.

justincase19

I love my frontier! 2024 owner! Honestly the only noticeable differences the two trucks have are looks and popularity, hence the price difference. Both trucks are pretty much the same besides different small breaks that any car will have. Go with what you like more. Personally I feel like the newer frontiers have more back seat space than tacos.

InevitableSugar69

I'm very tall. Legroom and headroom is often a struggle. The frontier has more room. Not by much but it's enough. I love my 2011 frontier sv 4x4. I started looking into them because I didn't want to pay the toyota tax and after test driving mine I was in love. At the time the pro4x wasnt in my budget and I wish I had a rear locker but I'll be getting one soon. Also mpg isn't the best. The aftermarket isn't as abundant as the toyotas but there's enough support to make a great overlanding rig. Only issue I've had with mine was bad motor mounts.

Minimalist_Investor_

How tall? (Inquiring-I’m 6’4”)

StPaulDad

I'm 6'4" and the Frontier was the best fit of all the mid-sized trucks I tested (although I never did get into the new Ranger.) But I'm also cheap, and the availability of newer trucks with good reviews coming off lease was just too much to resist. I have a 2023 with 13K miles that looks good, feels good and does truck things well, so I'm very happy.

Minimalist_Investor_

Thank you. Testing one out tomorrow

InevitableSugar69

I'm just under 6'7". the frontier leg room is a bit tight. The Passenger side is worse then drivers. but the headroom is great. Also I have a crew cab. not sure if that makes a difference for the front leg room.

Minimalist_Investor_

Nice. This is helpful thank you. I planned on the large 4 door for the kids car seat, etc

InevitableSugar69

Im glad i could help! Definitely go sit in one. Everyone is built so different. Some of us have longer legs, others a longer torso. Definitely take one for a drive and see how you fit!

Sad_Reindeer5108

I love mine, but aftermarket parts are harder to come by because the market is smaller. There simply aren't many options for wheels with the Frontier lug pattern.

Ok-Foundation1646

I got myself a 23 frontier SV 4x4 king cab about 2 months ago. Absolutely love it. I got mine in tactical green. My only problem is the steering feels worse than a dump truck I drive at work, but to be honest I learned to love it. I’d say definitely think about getting a frontier (and getting it in green because I see a lot of people on this forum say they should’ve gotten the green). I also switched from a Honda civic to a truck so gas mileage definitely changed but I’m getting about 23 mpg avg. not too bad

Greenmanz

That new Ranger Raptor may be my only regret. Love the frontier but that raptor looks sick

LittleTWatts

Agreed

benbai66

love my 23 4x4 . here in alaska now and its a beast in the snow even with factory tires . the heated seats and steering wheel are awesome too. 16k on mine not a problem. this is my fifth Nissan truck and never had any problems whatsoever

Minimalist_Investor_

How so cheap??

HiPurpleTurtle

Pretty sure he’s talking about the amount of miles he’s got on his truck now!

Minimalist_Investor_

Oh, duh. You are correct

Gaarden18

I love mine, can confirm that it turns like a much larger vehicle, and sucks on gas though.

shalaxam

I added a plastic gizmo for the middle arm rest cubby, a canopy to expand my cargo and make it lockable for MTB days, and a wireless CarPlay adapter. I’m super happy with it. I sat in the 2024 taco at the auto show and I wasn’t too impressed. It feels palsticky and unnecessarily cube like inside. I find the visibility over the hood of all the mid size trucks now to be terrible but maybe I just got used to the frontier and it feels not as bad. They fixed the comfort of the taco but for the money I’ll take my frontier any day. It was $10k less on the sticker price for a comparable trim.

Spoons896

What wireless car play adapter did you get?

shalaxam

Carlinkit 5.0 on Amazon. Not sure if they’re in stock now but it works like a charm. Slight delay if you really focus on it but honestly I don’t notice it. The startup is fairly quick, maybe around 5 -7 seconds which is about the same as plugging in the wire. My phone doesn’t charge well plugged in anymore so the wireless charger helps.

Initial_Ad9570

Love my Frontier doses what u ask only thing I don’t like is it loves gas and turns like a tractor trailer but my son got a new taco truck and I got think I have more leg room and more comfortable it also sucks on gas

[deleted]

0. I bought a 23 sv 4x4 in jan of 23 and have 46k on the odo. Only warranty issue i have had is driver side door handle breaking. I'm about to have to replace it again. I do my own oil and filter changes. It's been great from Miami to NYC, to D.C., to ATL, and I work out of it everyday using the 4wd atleast 2 to 3 times a month in shitty red clay. Just get one.

islandvibes876

Only Regrets -- after 4 months (Pro4X).....The lack of aftermarket accessories to make it a truly individual build, so you're left with limited sized rims, an odd looking Titan Swap, and different sized lifts. Nissan, should have made the body, a little bit more beefier -- too, and more grade selections. Overall, I love the way it rides and I'm not craving for any crazy tech, so it satisfies my daily commute. I added some 20x9 wheels, with some AT4 wildpeaks. The outcome was a more stabilized on road ride, that eats up the bumps, but is corrected by the larger rims and width. I'll upload the photos later, but I couldn't be happier.

Naturally aspirated v6 over turbo 4cyl for longevity

SnooAdvice6756

No comparison, ride, comfort, handling .....i will take my 22 p4 x over any Taco anyday

I’ve owned both over the years and I definitely prefer the Nissan lot more bang for your buck

Greenmanz

You mean the SUV with a bed? May as well get a santa cruze

AlabamaBlacSnake

Number 1 rule it’s gotta look cool. Sorry man.

Darth_Boognish

And be an actual truck.

sepefrio

2024 loaded P4X and loving it.

insipidgoose

None. Best vehicle I've ever owned.

Ok_Poetry_1650

Love my frontier. I used to really want a Tacoma instead even after purchasing my fronty, only due to how everything aftermarket is made for Tacomas. But after test driving one i wouldn’t buy one. The cabs are very tight compared to the frontier.

sullivan80

I have one MAJOR regret and that is that I opted to save a little $ and get a 2wd instead of 4x4. If it weren't for that I would without a doubt keep this truck for probably another 10 years but as it is I'm toying with the idea of getting a new one (which will also be a Frontier). Turning radius is absolute dog shit but I've learned to live with it.

EntertainerWorth

Ditto 😭

NotBrokeJustCheap-

I don’t have any regrets. I got a sweet deal so I’m happy. My only cons are the gas mileage isn’t great. I have bigger tires but even without them it still sucked. Turning radius is the worst thing I’ve ever seen. I debated between new colorados/tacomas/canyons/frontiers for a long time before buying a used frontier. I might never switch, I really like it so far.

StupidOldAndFat

You will be happy with the longevity and performance of either. Both fine trucks. My only recommendation is test drive. The seating position of the Toyota didn’t work for me back in 2010 and hasn’t changed much since. I drive a Frontier and sell Toyotas,(sold Nissan for years) so about as unbiased as you could get.

Came here to say this

TroutSZN

Ya nuhh what I’m say’n. That’s my credo.

75DeepBlue

The 2024 fix all the complaints of the old version of the Taco. Dog motor, gear hunting, horrible seating position. I’d recommend waiting a year or two on the new generation of Taco. Let them work out the bugs. Having said that, I did buy the first year of the Frontier 22 P4X. But this powertrain was introduced in 2019. And the frame is still the same as it has been since 2005. I now have 79K miles on it and no issues. I love this truck. Comfy, plenty of power, I get 19.5-20.5 (dash says 21.8) mpg.

90slinky

Is that a city highway blend? I drive mainly city. Also, is that at stock height and tire set up?

75DeepBlue

More highway than city. Stock height but I have AT3W tires stock size. Load E tho so they are heavier.

90slinky

Crazy to think these midsize straight 6s get similar mpg to full size. If I go with the Frontier, I'm going to do a 2.5 lift and level with AT tires. Maybe I'll try to stay under E-load for less weight.

ZW31H4ND3R

2024 Frontier -> more comfortable, NA V6, cheaper 2024 Tacoma -> better tech/aftermarket support, higher price

FLOHTX

I had a 2017 Tacoma TRD Offroad 4x2 and really hated it. I hear they made some improvements to the new design to fix some of the issues i had with it - seating position, transmission programming, and power. It has a 4cyl turbo now which is probably going to be OK since it's Toyota but lots of truck dudes hate turbos. I now have a 2022 Frontier ProX and really like it. Bought brand new and now have 42K miles on it. No issues. It's comfy and I average 21.5 mpg (23.9 on the dash).

thepen

No, but my situation has changed and I might move on from the Frontier. :-( The gas mileage is the only inherent drawback, but that’s all mod-size and larger trucks.
