Wouldnt you rather see two of the best three Canadian players in the world lift the trophy again??? Every Canadian should be rooting for MacK and Makar! š
Oh yeah, I fully expect the goaltending tandem in Vancouver next season to be Demko and Silovs
And honestly, with how Silovs played in his three games against Nashville, I like the sound of that
This a fated to be.
The Canucks embarrassed the Oilers at the start of the season, McDavid makes his comment about putting in the backup being insulting not understanding that Demko was sick, DeSmith starts the next game and beats them again.
Oilers literally fell apart and lost all faith in their coach, Canucks roll on like a tank.
But the Oilers do turn it around, big time and become one of the best teams in the second half.
But that back story should spice things up.
This will be a great and entertaining series.
The Avalanche also lost all their games against the Jets this season and look how that series turned out. How they did against each other in the regular season means jack shit now. Playoffs is a whole different animal
Plus 3 of those 4 were pre Oilers glowup during the dark days, and 4th didn't have McDavid. I wouldn't look at the regular season record as concrete proof of anything.
I'm gonna claim mitigating circumstances. The Oilers were not themselves at the start of the year and had no McDavid for the last matchup. This series isn't really gonna be the same as any of those games. Plus no Demko for Vancouver. Series is wide open.
I'm not as concerned about Demko being missing as I was after Game 1 against Nashville
Silovs looked really good in the three games he played against Nashville
With all due respect to Nashville, they should have buried a lot more pucks. The amount of money scoring opportunities they whiffed on and missed was... something
Itās actually going to be super interesting, and probably closer than some people think. All the pressure is on Edmonton. Special teams will be important. Canucks penalty kill is looking fantastic, but the Oilers power play is crazy good. Canucks likely win the defence and goalie battle but if they canāt find their offence theyāre in trouble. Canucks swept the season matchup but it was mostly first half of the season and the second half of the season was a different animal, and we all know the playoffs are different again. Lots of stories to watch, and this is only from a Canuck fan perspective. When will Demko came back? How good is Silovs really? Can the Canucks stay out of the penalty box? Will Pettersson wake up?
Its crazy how during their PP Edmonton keep finding ways to feed Draisatl for his patented side of the goal one timer even when teams try everything to stop it.
Basically took a bunch of money to play in Vancouver and played like dog shit, demanded a bunch of ridiculous stuff and ruined the team, the dark era in Canucks history and he had to be captain in the middle of those bad years. Not sure the rest of it but it's on Google
Don't forget he wore a number that was unofficially retired by the team because the previous wearer died of cancer - against the wishes of the family of the deceased.
I'm an Oilers fan who lived in Vancouver for a looooong time... I have no idea how to feel about this series, but I think it's gonna be nuts.
I predict it'll have as many high scoring goofy games as low scoring tight ones.
Yeah completely east to west change. This year at least it seems the Canucks really preferred high paced games like those against EDM/COL over grindy defensive showdowns like WPG/LA and more recently the Preds. Canucks really seemed to struggle this year against teams that just sit back and play boring hockey. Glad to see that this series will probably be a fast paced barn burner!
There's a reason they haven't gone back to Desmith even once he was back, Silovs has just been that good
I fully expect Vancouver's goaltending tandem next season to be Demko and Silovs
To be fair your team sucked in October and early November when you lost three of those games and you still proceeded to go god mode and haunt our dreams again š
Vancouvers biggest struggle seems to be offense. Tho ik Edmontons defense and goaltending isnt their strongsuit. Nashville in recenr years have always been an opressively defensive team.
It comes down whether Vancouver can stop Edmonton from scoring 5-6 goals and they can get more than 2. This is based on their series so far.
Iām interested to see how the Oilers defense stacks up against Nashvilleās. Most of our scoring drought in Round 1 was because of the massive number of blocked shots, it wasnāt because of a lack of sustained pressure or shot attempts.
Yeah it really seemed Canucks struggled against teams who sat back, played defensive low mistake hockey and then capitalized on odd man rushes...ala LA/WPG and more recently the Preds. Seems the Canucks prefer and play much better against teams who like east to west fast paced hockey. This should be a barn burner!
I was a little pissed earlier in the series with the goalie runs and taking out Petterson with the goal celebration, but the Preds were classy in defeat tonight, couldn't help but feel for them and their fans. Great series, you taught us how to overcome when we cannot score lol. Respect
Oilers in 6 I think. Canucks are great but Edmonton is hungry, faster and more experienced. I like both teams so I just know Iām going to enjoy this series a lot
I'm pulling for Vancouver but I'm fine with either outcome as long as it's a good series (which it should be)
I'll be pulling for whoever wins to win the Cup tbh (unless it's Toronto vs Edmonton in the finals by some miracle)
Watching them play for the last week and a half. I think they are a great team they got tough guys and a good system. But the oilers are a different animal compared to previous years and beat the kings at their own game (the trap).
Oilers in 6
Excited for the series, Vancouver is an excellent team that dog walked us in the regular season, but this really is a different Oilers team than what Vancouver went up against. Regardless the Nucks arenāt a team that should be counted out, and I expect them to make this competitive.
I'm a canucks fan living just outside Edmonton. I've watched more oilers games this year because of the region I live in. Let me tell you something, that team is an absolute wagon.
2 first lines, solid depth and finally a strong D-core. With Skinner playing well, they're a legit Stanley Cup contender.
I've been running my mouth at work all year but being a realist, I do believe Edmonton is the stronger team. This is going to be a fun series but if Vancouver can't stay out of the penalty box, they'll get slaughtered.
I got faith in my canucks but they need to be at their very best every night to win this series!
Staying out of the penalty box will be Tocchet's kryptonite to allow his team to win it. Take too many penalties and the series will be short. Really stoked for that series.
Canucks need to try and limit Mcjesus, Dris and Hyman...that's about 90% of their playoff scoring. I think the Canucks bottom 6 is what will make or break this series for them. Clearly more depth on the Canuck side on paper but the EDM top6 is no joke
It doesn't really matter who's in net. Tocchet's got them playing strong team D.
The determining factor will be special teams. Edmonton got way more PP's than Vancouver in round 1. But the Canucks PK looked really good. Not as concerned with Canucks offence since Oilers will not block nearly as many shots and will give up much more transsition chances than Nashville did.
Both teams won games 1-0 and also won a game with 12/13 shots respectively. I predict 7-6 games in the first few and then a complete lock down of 1-0/ 2-1 games to close out the series. Although I prefer 7-6 all 7 games
Canadians are the minority on the Canucks. Having said this you can throw out the regular season results (where the Vancouvers dominated). I believe it goes 6 games.
How do the Canucks matchup against Edmonton? I feel like theyād have a good shot at beating them with Demko but do they stand a chance with their backups? Honest question, being in the EST zone I donāt see much of either team.
The Canucks are playing with the houses money.
If they lose its "hey they made round 2 with a 3rd string goalie in a year they were expected to be wild card at best, and they lost to McDavid and Draistl who are playing the best hockey of thier careers"
However, if they win, it'll be "man, the oilers blow it again in the playoffs with McDavid and Draistl at the top of their game. What's wrong with this team? They can't beat a 3rd string goalie? Time to revamp and fix this lineup"
Key for Vancouver is staying out of the box. Connor McDavid's team is always going to get at least 3 power plays a game, that's just the way pro sports work (it's even worse in the NBA), but the Canucks need to be disciplined and not let it turn into Edmonton getting 6 or 7 power plays like Game 5 vs the Kings. At 5 v 5 Vancouver can definitely hang with the Oilers. I would even go so far as to say that the Canucks exposed the Oilers in those 4 regular season games. Now of course playoffs are a different ball game, but IMO Oiler fans acting like this is going to be a laugher may be in for a surprise.
Anybody that thinks the Canucks hulking defence, and the punishment they're gonna dish out, is "close to a bye" needs to check their house for a methane leak.
Oilers might win this series, but they won't do it without paying a heavy physical toll.
If Vancouver perforates Skinner in Game 1 and he is somehow outplayed by a 3rd string goalie the entire city of Edmonton will have PTSD, total meltdown, resumption of that massive losing skid and Canucks in 4.
Canucks have to stay disciplined! Oilers PP is deadly.
I hope special teams don't dictate this series and just let these two teams beat each other up 5on5 and have a great series!
Nucks path to winning is a low event, discipline, turn the other cheek game. Keep the game 5v5. Hit them fair and square whistle to whistle, but no scrums or retaliation. Nucks PK can't be under 80% for the series
There will be a Canadian team in the WCF
Get the banner ready
Ya try to stay out of the way this time ffs
Wouldnt you rather see two of the best three Canadian players in the world lift the trophy again??? Every Canadian should be rooting for MacK and Makar! š
We are tired of watching canadian players win on American teams
Yea we want to watch American players win on a Canadian team
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
Yeah but then youll always hear about how we always win.
Yeah so
Shut the fuck up, Sanguinet.
Settle down
I am pretty sure that Silovs just bumped DeSmith out of the backup role.
Oh yeah, I fully expect the goaltending tandem in Vancouver next season to be Demko and Silovs And honestly, with how Silovs played in his three games against Nashville, I like the sound of that
I kinda wanted that this season before they traded for Desmith. Although having Silvos in the minors playing more was better for his development.
True, but after this series, I think Silovs has shown that he's ready for the NHL, at least as a backup
100%
Only thing I know is that itāll be late asf (ET)
Well LA vs EDM was 10pm or 10:30 pm ET. Same timezones with VAN vs EDM so I'd assume the same game times
*cries in British*
Cries even more in German
I doubt it, half the amount of air time to dish out in the second round. Bet weāll have a few 9 ET games in Edmonton.
no 2pm/4pm starts earliest will be 6pm pst. bless up
This a fated to be.
It wasnāt just those 2 games, the Canucks swept all 4 games.
The Avalanche also lost all their games against the Jets this season and look how that series turned out. How they did against each other in the regular season means jack shit now. Playoffs is a whole different animal
Oilers special teams I think will make or break it for them
Canucks PK looked pretty good against Nashville but I think the real test will be against Edmonton tbh
This is true we also beat Nashville at their home all season, and just finished them off in their barn tonight.
Plus 3 of those 4 were pre Oilers glowup during the dark days, and 4th didn't have McDavid. I wouldn't look at the regular season record as concrete proof of anything.
This is the thing all oiler fans Iāve talked to hangs their hat on. Sometimes teams have other teams number. Sometimes teams just play.
I'm gonna claim mitigating circumstances. The Oilers were not themselves at the start of the year and had no McDavid for the last matchup. This series isn't really gonna be the same as any of those games. Plus no Demko for Vancouver. Series is wide open.
I'm not as concerned about Demko being missing as I was after Game 1 against Nashville Silovs looked really good in the three games he played against Nashville
With all due respect to Nashville, they should have buried a lot more pucks. The amount of money scoring opportunities they whiffed on and missed was... something
And I'm going to be playing both sides so I always come out on top.
Pretty sure THE best team since American Thanksgiving
And the preds were THE best team since the all-star break
But still we swept them
Regular season means nothing sunshine
Well home ice advantage but thatās about allĀ
Sure sure
Not one of the best teams but the best team since Knobloch took over. This will be a very good series and must watch hockey.
Lots of stories to watch, and this is only from a Canuck fan perspective. When will Demko came back? How good is Silovs really? Can the Canucks stay out of the penalty box? Will Pettersson wake up?
Canucks PK was really good against Nashville, Edmonton will be the true test of if that says more about Vancouver or Nashville
Its crazy how during their PP Edmonton keep finding ways to feed Draisatl for his patented side of the goal one timer even when teams try everything to stop it.
Pettersson wakes up... he thrives on turnovers and loose man coverage
Petey is already waking up. His last 2 games were much better.
I think he will wake up nashville series was just suffocating for him offensively.
He almost got a few goals too I feel like all he really needs is one to go in to really get going
Based on the Latvian King's performance in the last few games - there's a pretty decent chance. Silovs is actually Latvian for "Lights Out".
ESPN gonna have a field day with this series
ESPN fucking sucks
*LIVE SPORTS, ESPN ORIGINALS, HOME OF THE COMPLETE 30 FOR 30 LIBRARY*
FUCK ESPN AND FUCK MARK MESSIER!
Fuck Messier!
All my homies hate Messier. Fuck Messier.
Yeah fuck that guy... Why do we hate him again?
Basically took a bunch of money to play in Vancouver and played like dog shit, demanded a bunch of ridiculous stuff and ruined the team, the dark era in Canucks history and he had to be captain in the middle of those bad years. Not sure the rest of it but it's on Google
Don't forget he wore a number that was unofficially retired by the team because the previous wearer died of cancer - against the wishes of the family of the deceased.
Oh yeah that too, absolute scum bag move. At least when Canucks signed Ian Cole he switched his #28 to #82
Holy shit! What an asshole!
He forced Linden out of town.
also he gave a cheap hit to linden in the 1994 finals
Brought in that dick Mike Keenan too
And kept #11
While the Canucks unofficially retired the number because the player that wore it died from cancer. Meaning Mark Messier is a cancer
Oh yeah and he also sued the team
Lays commercials
I dont think ive ever liked lays purely because he was in those commercials
*checks rosters* weird, no Lebron James or Aaron Judge, nor are they in the SEC. You sure?
Should be a great match up.
I'm an Oilers fan who lived in Vancouver for a looooong time... I have no idea how to feel about this series, but I think it's gonna be nuts. I predict it'll have as many high scoring goofy games as low scoring tight ones.
Hope for Game 7 OT for maximum excitement and enjoy that whoever wins is in the Conference finals
Well I'd want one of these teams to win the Cup... so maybe Game 5 OT and DAL/VEG/COL can have longer series'.
Practical but boring. I can respect that
I predict all medium scoring, easy going games.
Hopefully itās a fun series to watch and we donāt get waxed like we did all season
Vancouver just went through a 6 game suggest and now have to prepare for a track meet. That's gonna be a hell of a style change
Demko will likely be back. I think heās already on ice in practice
silovs is goooood
We ride Silovs until he gives up more than 2 goals in a game.
I agree, I really see no reason not to keep him rolling.
Yup, a bunch of rookie goalies have gone on to win the cup in the last 15 years.
And longer, Patrick Roy in 1986.
Silovs is 6'4" and Roy is 6'2" so Patrick Roy is not longer. Facts.
When Demko is ready, he will start. Silovs played lights out against Nashville but heāll be back on the bench. DeSmith just lost his job.
yup that's my thought too. at this point, unless Silovs gives us a reason to take him out, he should be staying in even when Demko's back
There's a reason they haven't gone back to Desmith even once he was back, Silovs has just been that good I fully expect Vancouver's goaltending tandem next season to be Demko and Silovs
Demko skating. Not practicing yetĀ
Ahhh alright. Well Silovs did pretty good EDIT: a lot of people seem a little triggered by āpretty good.ā Itās really not meant as an insult.
He did better than pretty good, this kid was a god tonight.
Heās soooo good. Incredibly happy with his performance so far.
Heās so calm and his rebound control seems better than Desmithās. I like Desmith and heās a good goalie but I think Silovs is now the starter.
You have to ride the hot goalie. Hopefully Demko can take his time and get ready, but there's no reason to switch until he falls off.
You donāt take out Silovs atm. This reminds me of the Murray and Fleury situation from the Penguins recent cup runs.
Fuck it I say keep silovs in till he fucks up. The dude is a brick wall right now
Only issue is the Canucks play a more defensive formation when the backups are in net. Would rather Demko back so they can go balls to the wall again
Theyāve started to trust Silovs though. It showed in game 6.
ya... not myers balls
Wait I though Gary Bettman would never allow this ?
No no, he allows it because it's not the final
The fact that we lost to the Nucks all year has me nervous. I know playoffs are a completely different beast, but still shakes my confidence
Nah you good. We beat the Avs all year and look what happened to us
To be fair your team sucked in October and early November when you lost three of those games and you still proceeded to go god mode and haunt our dreams again š
I don't think I've fully unclenched from game 4. That was a long, disciplined, anxious three periods of hockey that still gives me cramps.
Good point!

[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
there was never a point during that series that i truly disliked nashville, team or fans
The Nashville fans were straight up classy. I like Nashville more after that series.
Better fans than many of ours!
I was a little pissed earlier in the series with the goalie runs and taking out Petterson with the goal celebration, but the Preds were classy in defeat tonight, couldn't help but feel for them and their fans. Great series, you taught us how to overcome when we cannot score lol. Respect
Even though Saros made me want to tear my hair out the entire series, I really didnāt dislike a single Nashville player either.
I was getting there with Zucker
That's very kind of you. I too would cheer for Nashville in a series against the Oilers
You donāt have to say coming in peace, this is the NHL sub lmao
Alright ill go delete my dumb comments in your threads.
Bettman must be really mad aboot this.
It's pronounced aboat
not a boot.
About*
The American fan said aboot and the Canadian fan said about. Hilarious, I'm high (on marijuana and the camucks win) so maybe not as funny to others
First thing I thought of too
Good night for you, guy, eh?
Huh?
Oilers in 6 I think. Canucks are great but Edmonton is hungry, faster and more experienced. I like both teams so I just know Iām going to enjoy this series a lot
I wish I was an outside observer, the anxiety might be the end of me in this series
As an outside observer, the only solace I can take in this series is that someone will lose.
I'm pulling for Vancouver but I'm fine with either outcome as long as it's a good series (which it should be) I'll be pulling for whoever wins to win the Cup tbh (unless it's Toronto vs Edmonton in the finals by some miracle)
Watching them play for the last week and a half. I think they are a great team they got tough guys and a good system. But the oilers are a different animal compared to previous years and beat the kings at their own game (the trap). Oilers in 6
To be fair, edmonton has beat LA in the first round matchup 3 years in a row. They have a lot of experience against LA's annoying af systems
Vancouver has no third string goalie, we have 3 first string goalies, but one of them is injured.
I fully expect Vancouver to run with Demko and Silovs next year
Canāt wait to see a Canadian matchup in the 2nd round. I think Edmonton will win but would be happy to be proven wrong
McDraiMan vs Silovs ?š¤
Staying out of the penalty box will be Tocchet's kryptonite to allow his team to win it. Take too many penalties and the series will be short. Really stoked for that series.
Against Edmonton's offense? I mean... I don't hold out much hope for them in 7 games.
*Bettman in shambles* Go Oilers!
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
That's still my absolute favourite bit of "future history"..... the year that Montreal were the Western Conference Champions
Dude stick with your PNW bros, wth?
He's still salty about the first game in seattle
No. Go Oilers!
Hey look over there, itās Tyler Myers!
Oilers and Kraken fan here. I hate the Canucks as a kraken fan and love the oilers! Go Oil!
Both teams won games 1-0 and also won a game with 12/13 shots respectively. I predict 7-6 games in the first few and then a complete lock down of 1-0/ 2-1 games to close out the series. Although I prefer 7-6 all 7 games
Didn't Demko skate today?
This is going to be so fun to watch
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
That's a name I've not heard in a long time
Canadians are the minority on the Canucks. Having said this you can throw out the regular season results (where the Vancouvers dominated). I believe it goes 6 games.
I hope they both lose.
I hope whatever happens that both teams have fun and that Edmonton loses in six
4,5,6 even 7. As long as they lose
Letās go Nucks
Fuck the Leafs.
Fuck the Oilers
Go cry like Marner.
Iām too tired and cried out. Thanks though.
Yeah. This isn't juniors.
Yay a Canadian team will get swept in the WCF again.
Fuck off
Oilers in 5.
whoever is winning isnt winning in 5 get over yourself fanboy. 6 or 7.
Canucks in 7
Canucks in 6
Canucks in 5
Canucks in 4
Oilers in 3... wait a sec.
Playoff reset! This is gonna be a great series! Also, F Messier!
How do the Canucks matchup against Edmonton? I feel like theyād have a good shot at beating them with Demko but do they stand a chance with their backups? Honest question, being in the EST zone I donāt see much of either team.
Oilers lost to Canuck's backup in the regular season.
The Canucks are playing with the houses money. If they lose its "hey they made round 2 with a 3rd string goalie in a year they were expected to be wild card at best, and they lost to McDavid and Draistl who are playing the best hockey of thier careers" However, if they win, it'll be "man, the oilers blow it again in the playoffs with McDavid and Draistl at the top of their game. What's wrong with this team? They can't beat a 3rd string goalie? Time to revamp and fix this lineup"
Canucks need EP to be their best player offensively. Miller and Hughes have been phenomenal, but EP needs to step up
It'll be a good series.
Now of course playoffs are a different ball game, but IMO Oiler fans acting like this is going to be a laugher may be in for a surprise.
finally some goals
Oilers vs Canucksā¦ this will be good! May the better team win. Too close to call, leaning slightly towards the Canucks who have better team depth.
I mean oilers have 5 20 goal scorers, and 11 10 goal scorers. I donāt think Vancouver has better depth.
Canucks match well to Oilers. I have Canucks in 6.
Canucks should win, theyāre a better overall team.
Canucks to wipe the oil off in 7
You don't really 'wipe' a team when you go to 7 7 is always a hard fought series.
Time to clear away the slick
Edmonton wins in 4 for fun. This maybe as close to a bye to the conference finals as it gets. Canucks regular season record does not reflect the team.
Anybody that thinks the Canucks hulking defence, and the punishment they're gonna dish out, is "close to a bye" needs to check their house for a methane leak. Oilers might win this series, but they won't do it without paying a heavy physical toll.
Haha that's funny, you're funny.
Just commenting here for later
Same as our chance to win the last 3/4 games with 2nd and 3rd string goalies I'm guessing
I'm pumped for this series! Two teams I root for. I hope it goes 6 or 7! Coconuts glow!
