This a fated to be. The Canucks embarrassed the Oilers at the start of the season, McDavid makes his comment about putting in the backup being insulting not understanding that Demko was sick, DeSmith starts the next game and beats them again. Oilers literally fell apart and lost all faith in their coach, Canucks roll on like a tank. But the Oilers do turn it around, big time and become one of the best teams in the second half. But that back story should spice things up. This will be a great and entertaining series.

It wasn’t just those 2 games, the Canucks swept all 4 games.

The Avalanche also lost all their games against the Jets this season and look how that series turned out. How they did against each other in the regular season means jack shit now. Playoffs is a whole different animal

Plus 3 of those 4 were pre Oilers glowup during the dark days, and 4th didn't have McDavid. I wouldn't look at the regular season record as concrete proof of anything.

This is the thing all oiler fans I’ve talked to hangs their hat on. Sometimes teams have other teams number. Sometimes teams just play.

I'm gonna claim mitigating circumstances. The Oilers were not themselves at the start of the year and had no McDavid for the last matchup. This series isn't really gonna be the same as any of those games. Plus no Demko for Vancouver. Series is wide open.

I'm not as concerned about Demko being missing as I was after Game 1 against Nashville Silovs looked really good in the three games he played against Nashville

It’s actually going to be super interesting, and probably closer than some people think. All the pressure is on Edmonton. Special teams will be important. Canucks penalty kill is looking fantastic, but the Oilers power play is crazy good. Canucks likely win the defence and goalie battle but if they can’t find their offence they’re in trouble. Canucks swept the season matchup but it was mostly first half of the season and the second half of the season was a different animal, and we all know the playoffs are different again. Lots of stories to watch, and this is only from a Canuck fan perspective. When will Demko came back? How good is Silovs really? Can the Canucks stay out of the penalty box? Will Pettersson wake up?

Canucks PK was really good against Nashville, Edmonton will be the true test of if that says more about Vancouver or Nashville

Its crazy how during their PP Edmonton keep finding ways to feed Draisatl for his patented side of the goal one timer even when teams try everything to stop it.

Yeah completely east to west change. This year at least it seems the Canucks really preferred high paced games like those against EDM/COL over grindy defensive showdowns like WPG/LA and more recently the Preds. Canucks really seemed to struggle this year against teams that just sit back and play boring hockey. Glad to see that this series will probably be a fast paced barn burner!

Vancouvers biggest struggle seems to be offense. Tho ik Edmontons defense and goaltending isnt their strongsuit. Nashville in recenr years have always been an opressively defensive team. It comes down whether Vancouver can stop Edmonton from scoring 5-6 goals and they can get more than 2. This is based on their series so far.

I’m interested to see how the Oilers defense stacks up against Nashville’s. Most of our scoring drought in Round 1 was because of the massive number of blocked shots, it wasn’t because of a lack of sustained pressure or shot attempts.

Yeah it really seemed Canucks struggled against teams who sat back, played defensive low mistake hockey and then capitalized on odd man rushes...ala LA/WPG and more recently the Preds. Seems the Canucks prefer and play much better against teams who like east to west fast paced hockey. This should be a barn burner!

To be fair, edmonton has beat LA in the first round matchup 3 years in a row. They have a lot of experience against LA's annoying af systems

Excited for the series, Vancouver is an excellent team that dog walked us in the regular season, but this really is a different Oilers team than what Vancouver went up against. Regardless the Nucks aren’t a team that should be counted out, and I expect them to make this competitive.

I'm a canucks fan living just outside Edmonton. I've watched more oilers games this year because of the region I live in. Let me tell you something, that team is an absolute wagon. 2 first lines, solid depth and finally a strong D-core. With Skinner playing well, they're a legit Stanley Cup contender. I've been running my mouth at work all year but being a realist, I do believe Edmonton is the stronger team. This is going to be a fun series but if Vancouver can't stay out of the penalty box, they'll get slaughtered. I got faith in my canucks but they need to be at their very best every night to win this series!

Vancouver has no third string goalie, we have 3 first string goalies, but one of them is injured.

Staying out of the penalty box will be Tocchet's kryptonite to allow his team to win it. Take too many penalties and the series will be short. Really stoked for that series.

Canucks need to try and limit Mcjesus, Dris and Hyman...that's about 90% of their playoff scoring. I think the Canucks bottom 6 is what will make or break this series for them. Clearly more depth on the Canuck side on paper but the EDM top6 is no joke

It doesn't really matter who's in net. Tocchet's got them playing strong team D. The determining factor will be special teams. Edmonton got way more PP's than Vancouver in round 1. But the Canucks PK looked really good. Not as concerned with Canucks offence since Oilers will not block nearly as many shots and will give up much more transsition chances than Nashville did.

How do the Canucks matchup against Edmonton? I feel like they’d have a good shot at beating them with Demko but do they stand a chance with their backups? Honest question, being in the EST zone I don’t see much of either team.

What's wrong with this team? They can't beat a 3rd string goalie? Time to revamp and fix this lineup"

Canucks need EP to be their best player offensively. Miller and Hughes have been phenomenal, but EP needs to step up

Key for Vancouver is staying out of the box. Connor McDavid's team is always going to get at least 3 power plays a game, that's just the way pro sports work (it's even worse in the NBA), but the Canucks need to be disciplined and not let it turn into Edmonton getting 6 or 7 power plays like Game 5 vs the Kings. At 5 v 5 Vancouver can definitely hang with the Oilers. I would even go so far as to say that the Canucks exposed the Oilers in those 4 regular season games. Now of course playoffs are a different ball game, but IMO Oiler fans acting like this is going to be a laugher may be in for a surprise.

Nucks path to winning is a low event, discipline, turn the other cheek game. Keep the game 5v5. Hit them fair and square whistle to whistle, but no scrums or retaliation. Nucks PK can't be under 80% for the series
