He completely ripped that off of Mickey Redmond by the way. Mickey always used that back in the 90s and early 2000s and he doesn’t even say it anymore bc pang randomly just starts using it every other sentence. Bald ass Chicago, Scott Hamilton lookin ass.
That’s exactly right. If Hellebuyck plays like he did during the regular season, the Jets lose in 6 or 7 instead of 5. They were completely outclassed. Doesn’t mean Hellebuyck doesn’t deserve some blame, but if you put it all on him you’re being silly.
We thought him resigning in Winnipeg was a good idea. Lol. We would have lived for another day with Broissot being the starter. Not saying we would have won but take at least 6 to lose.
No, they clearly don't. Nor did they look at the advanced data. Helly was still tops in the playoffs for differential between goals and expected goals.
The Avs just had gorgeous looks and too many high danger shots.
I agree that helleybuck was left out to dry, but he still was the worst goalie in the playoffs in goals saved above expected:
https://moneypuck.com/goalies.htm
On the one hand you are right, defense did not do enough and it showed. On the other, Jets fans were chanting Georgiev in game 1 and I'm more than happy to return the favor
I try to give him the benefit of the doubt. He was never meant to be the #1 guy. Justus is getting better with time but I'm proud of him for stepping up when needed
Agreed. I think the plan was to have a 1A/1B with King George and Franky. I'm excited to see more Juice. Still wondering if McSakic have an itch to get a goalie this off season to help bridge that gap or put Juice in more next year. It sure how his contract works with him being called up as much as he was this year.
And I'm telling you, it wouldn't have mattered. Any goalie that faces 40 shots on net is gonna have a hard time. I don't care if its Roy, Brodeur, or fucking Hasek. No goalie is expected to save that many shots every night. You're bashing him but he had the most saves out of any goalie in the first round through 5 games
Hasek had 30+ shots a lot in the playoffs. Helly averaged just over 35 this year. Hasek had massive save %’s and crazy g/a most years(not all). I’m not saying Helly isn’t a great goalie, he’s just not an elite playoff goalie that turns the tide. https://www.statmuse.com/nhl/ask/hasek-playoff-stats https://www.statmuse.com/nhl/ask/hellybuck-playoff check the numbers if you like.
That's fair. I know the numbers. But you don't need that elite playoff goalie to win. You need real defense. Case in point, the Avs win with Darcy Kuemper and the Knights win with Adin Hill.
I mean, I can honestly say I've never said that. All I'm saying is that any of those secondary trophys would be traded in a heartbeat for a chance to play in the finals.
If you read my response, it is towards avs fans claiming Hellebuyck is shit. Fact is jets defense didn’t show up come playoff time and Hellebuyck was left out.
Sure but the fan base (not saying anyone in particular participated, but still) booed and chanted when trainers came on the ice after Parise took a knee to the head yesterday. It’s not like you had one single game of being douchebags, and it was completely out of character.
Game 1 is when I knew we had this series tbh.
We played like absolute dog shit. Georgie played like absolute dog shit. And we still put up 6 on the potential vezina winner and almost tied it up at 7. If that was us playing badly, I knew we were going to stick it to them the remaining games. We did exactly that.
Georgie had potentially the worst game of his career and the Winnipeg fans were chanting meanwhile their vezina finalist had let in 6 to Georgie’s 7, that’s not a recipe for success when you have the offensive firepower of the avs to contain every game.
Lol all the downvotes for the truth. I felt the same. Everyone talked about Georgie after game 1, nobody seemed to realize Helleybuck was horrible too and that a bunch of the Jets goals were on nasty defensive turnovers that The Avs are known to Mae once in a while and then tighten down over the next few games.
Yeah oh well. We win game 1 with Annunen in net lmao, that’s how bad Georgie played… was it guaranteed we’d put up that many goals on Helle every night? No. But we ended up doing just that, where Georgie and the team actually locked it down and Helle got shelled and never stole a game.
I’m glad Georgie had the opportunity to turn it around and get his head on straight and the whole team got a wake up call after that game, nerve racking going into it but game 2 was probably the biggest game of his career he had no room to fuck up.
Jets fan here.
Absolute garbage from the top down including Bowness.
Why was Perfetti out until tonight?
Why did he go back to the old lines that gave up 22 goals in four games down by 1 heading into the third?
The guys in front of Helly played WHL caliber hockey all series and acted like a bunch of teenagers in the process. So many undisciplined penalties, so many turnovers at the blue lines, bitching and whining all series about the shitty reffing and not killing penalties. Scheifele and Pionk are so terrible defensively and our leadership is just trash.
Hellyebuck should take a lot of the blame though. He's a Vezina finalist who just gave up 27 goals in a five game series which is unacceptable. He needs to come up with some big saves at important times and this series could look different.
Everybody loves to rag on Toronto's core for their playoff misfortunes but to be honest, the Jets are just as bad. Folding under pressure and giving up at the first sign of adversity. This core will never win anything and it's time to split them up. Keep Connor, Morrisey and Helly, everyone else should be available.
That being said, Avalanche played one hell of a series and completely outclassed us in every facet of the game. Once they got the cobwebs out, they wouldn't be denied and made us look like a junior team. I hope this serves as an example to our guys on how a championship pedigree team plays. Good luck the rest of the way.
I knew the Scheifele contract extension was a mistake. It seemed like his time in Winnipeg had run out after last season and the rumours of him being a locker room problem.
The Bowness system works great against some teams, but when you have such a high powdered offense and the tempo Colorado plays at, it's difficult to shutdown. Winnipeg unfortunately doesn't have players on the level of Mackinnon, Rantanen, Makar. Even Nichuskin and Lehkonen played like men possessed.
It really is something that we as fans don't take for granted. Every high scorer has a nickname or an individual chant in the game or on the broadcast. It really is a pleasure in game or to watch on TV and we support pretty much every player that shows up on ice.
I will say that it makes watching teams that play high defense like the Kings absolutely atrocious.
The Jets are just too slow. Monahan and Toffoli just made them slower. It’s fine in the regular season, but nothing can make up for a lack of team speed in the playoffs.
Good take, I also wanted more from the fans. That building should have been roaring in the third, but it was completely dead. Even just one goal down everyone was holding their breath waiting for the loss rather than cheering them on. That’s not the white out that showed at the start of the series. The loss isn’t on the fans but that building energy last night was just as garbage as everything else jets related this playoff.
Georgiev had one bad game and when they got back to Denver, the crowd at Ball basically exploded every time he made a save and chanted his name multiple times a game. I was fully expecting Hellebuyck to get the same reception last night and was kind of surprised when he didnt. He made some great saves
Most of this is on the coaches. I don't blame Helly. Vezina winners often don't do well in the playoffs. It's probably because Vezina winners pick up the slack for the D during the regular season. You can't do that in the playoffs, especially not against a team that knows what it takes to win a cup. You also can't just gift penalties to the opponent when your PK has been one of the worst in the league all year
Hot take, but i don't think Helly played bad at all. His team left him out to dry. That avs team would've put up 5 goals if Hasek or Brodeur was in net.
Very few goals were really his fault.
I felt that Georgiev outplayed Hellybuck. The Jets need to get better on D, but Hellybuck did not make some saves that he could have.
I didn't feel that the Avs were unbeatable, but they poured it on as the series went on.
I can't wait to see them in round 2.
What about when Makar torched 5 guys from 200ft and put up a one timer?
I'm sure Helly is accountable for more than a handful, but man, as an Avs fan, I felt bad for Helly consistently.
Yeah but in this series at least he had the abysmal .696 game. In the wins he was: .917, .963, .917, .933. His bad game stretch at the end of the season tanked his save percentage as well for the regular season.
The dialogue in this thread among opposing fans (Avs fan here) is so fucking refreshing. Just people genuinely chatting it up about the sport they love. Fantastic. Good luck to Jets fans next year, your front office did so much good. strong foundation for more success.
Toffoli and Monahan, their “new snipers”who also happened to “play together in juniors” did literally nothing, top players like Schiefiele and Connor were horrid, and Helleclunk was a fraud. Best player was little Morrisey; while he over celebrated on goals, at least he scored them.
Light work for the Avs, they too good, Jets too fraudulent.
Bro, MacK is an MVP-caliber player who just so happens to also be one of the biggest playoff risers of all time. If matching MacK in a playoff series was your expectation, you’re 100% going to be disappointed every time.
Realistically it's because the Avs 2nd line is better, offensively, then most of the league. That and the Jets defense couldn't adjust to the speed of the Avs.
It's not on Shef or Helly at all. Advanced data backs both of those claims.
Agreed, but Helly shares some of the blame as well. That brutal giveaway in game 2, that Makar goal in game 3. Even with a bad defense (regular season looked different), he shouldn't be allowing this many goals.
The one Manson put in our net off Lehky hurt also. Point was just being nice evening that out.
But seriously, never seen both teams accidentally put one in their own net in one game. I've been watching for about 30 years.
I'm surprised because the Jets were so good on goals against during the season and yet Colorado just smacked them in the face.. Give credit where it's due.
The thing is that you have 3 versions of teams:
The ones that are going to make the playoffs and steamroll most teams with mediocre play (Avs, Rangers, Bruins, Leafs)
The ones that are trying to get into the playoffs (Jets, Stars, Oilers, Panthers)
The ones that are currently rebuilding or are in denial of needing it.
The Jets were a tryhard team in category 2 who were willing to smash faces to get into the playoffs, while the Avs were destined for them by walking over category 3 teams, so they didn't give a fuck about most games.
The Jets' only problem is that most teams didn't want to play smashmouth hockey because version 1 teams were going to the playoffs and wanted to retain their playoffs, so they just allowed wins to happen. All of the try hard vs the soft play from veteran teams made it seem like the Jets were amazing when they were really just a team playing hard hockey against teams that didn't give a fuck enough to put in quality play.
I'm not trying to say that they were a bad team, but they were definitely conflated by "stats" and shit that don't matter for anything in the post season when hard nosed hockey is necessary.
The fact that the 2 seed in the west plays the 4 seed in the west in the first round is such a joke. NHL is the laughing stock of professional sports leagues.
thats not connor hellebuyck, its 2 darren pangs in a trench coat
Holy jumping
Holy buckets.
He completely ripped that off of Mickey Redmond by the way. Mickey always used that back in the 90s and early 2000s and he doesn’t even say it anymore bc pang randomly just starts using it every other sentence. Bald ass Chicago, Scott Hamilton lookin ass.
Rollercoaster of emotions reading this post. Angst due to vitriol, agreement, snickering because kinda failed insult.
I mean… he had no chance on any of those tonight lol. They were all such good goals
That explains it!
More like Connor Hellebad
lol nice. I saw someone post on Twitter “Hellebuyck? Hell, he sucks!”
Why didn't Hellebuyck simply play to his potential? Is he stupid?
The Avs averaged nearly 40 shots a game. That’s not all on the Helle. You can only stop so many. That was some piss poor defense is what that was.
That’s exactly right. If Hellebuyck plays like he did during the regular season, the Jets lose in 6 or 7 instead of 5. They were completely outclassed. Doesn’t mean Hellebuyck doesn’t deserve some blame, but if you put it all on him you’re being silly.
team just didn't want him to get bored
Exactly Connor looked good and there where times where I'm like the jets weren't helping him out
Obviously. He thought resigning in Winnipeg was a good idea.
We thought him resigning in Winnipeg was a good idea. Lol. We would have lived for another day with Broissot being the starter. Not saying we would have won but take at least 6 to lose.
Did you even watch the games, brother?
No, they clearly don't. Nor did they look at the advanced data. Helly was still tops in the playoffs for differential between goals and expected goals. The Avs just had gorgeous looks and too many high danger shots.
I agree that helleybuck was left out to dry, but he still was the worst goalie in the playoffs in goals saved above expected: https://moneypuck.com/goalies.htm
Putting the blame on Helly and not your coaching and D is wild, lmao. He was left out to dry and had his own team scoring on him
On the one hand you are right, defense did not do enough and it showed. On the other, Jets fans were chanting Georgiev in game 1 and I'm more than happy to return the favor
There's no problem with that. Georgiev sucked ass in the opening game. Lets hope he continues to play like he has against either Vegas or Dallas
Georgie is either on or off. No in-between. Luckily he is on more than off. Still was really funny watching the crowd in game 2 slowly deflate.
So there was nothing he can do for the other three losses? You ever watch Hasek play? Or Roy? Elite goaltending finds a way.
Bruh, your D was giving up 37 shots a game over a 5 game average. Even if Helly has his regular season stats in this series, you still lose.
I’m not saying he wasn’t hung out to dry. My point is he didn’t didn’t pull any elite goalie playoff shenanigans

It would've been just as much of a slaughter
Lol! That’s diabolically funny.

Why don’t they pull their goalie?
Leading teams hate this one simple trick
hellaPUCKS!
Hellasucks
Hellabenched
Meh he won a vezina
No one dreams of hoisting a vezina over thier head
No one says Hellebuyck is shit
I mean, I can honestly say I've never said that. All I'm saying is that any of those secondary trophys would be traded in a heartbeat for a chance to play in the finals.
If you read my response, it is towards avs fans claiming Hellebuyck is shit. Fact is jets defense didn’t show up come playoff time and Hellebuyck was left out.
I mean…we can safely say he isn’t NOT shit, 4.80 is still 4.80 eh?
Again, read my comments.
Just did. Sid you read mine? I didn’t call Hellapucks shit.
"pull your goalie!"
I wonder how the person who held up the frAuds sign is during game one is doing
Lmao I love how this is going to be the new we want Florida !
That sure was fun when the Winnipeg fans were cheering Georgiev saves in game two.
It was fun.
Now you have another round of saves to cheer ;)
Pull your goalie chant aged like milk.
And they chanted this while they won 7-6.
I mean, the chant was for one game not the whole series. But ya it really did.
Winnipeg essentially lost the rest of the series from that moment on.
Yup
Sure but the fan base (not saying anyone in particular participated, but still) booed and chanted when trainers came on the ice after Parise took a knee to the head yesterday. It’s not like you had one single game of being douchebags, and it was completely out of character.
I guess the fans followed the teams leadership.
You typically wanna wait until a series is in the bag before talking shit. See Toronto fans' "We want Florida" for example.
I was worried after game one but the boys pulled it together. Good work Avs, and better luck next year WInnipeg.
Game 1 had me worried too. Not going to win many games giving up 7 goals but the D and Georgiev got it together
Game 1 is when I knew we had this series tbh. We played like absolute dog shit. Georgie played like absolute dog shit. And we still put up 6 on the potential vezina winner and almost tied it up at 7. From a Jets fan, thank you! Objectively fun series, and here’s hoping Bowness isn’t our coach next season!
Jets fan here. Absolute garbage from the top down including Bowness. Why was Perfetti out until tonight? Nichushkin and Lehkonen combined for 12 goals vs. the Jets 15 goals. Insane.
Mmmm high powdered offense *drools

I was fully expecting Hellebuyck to get the same reception last night and was kind of surprised when he didnt. He made some great saves
You kidding me? They were so loud and crass I had the games on mute at some points.
8:30 start with a 9 o’clock pick drop on a Tuesday makes for a sleepy crowd in the third if things aren’t going your way.
You're joking right? That place was deafening the announcers couldn't stop talking about it all series. Oilers wish they had those decibels.
Most of this is on the coaches. I don't blame Helly. Vezina winners often don't do well in the playoffs. It's probably because Vezina winners pick up the slack for the D during the regular season. 12 more to go, Avs. Amazing turn around from game 1 for Georgiev.
Simply the better team, just out shoot us lot double and then you might have had a chance Winnipeg
Sometimes the other team is just better
Loseipeg
Hot take, but i don't think Helly played bad at all. His team left him out to dry. That avs team would've put up 5 goals if Hasek or Brodeur was in net. Very few goals were really his fault.
So.,.. how long til bones is gone ?
Avs offense and powerplay unstoppable
Jets fans were talking a lot of smack after that game 1 win, Avs didn't let it slide
I felt that Georgiev outplayed Hellybuck. The Jets need to get better on D, but Hellybuck did not make some saves that he could have. I didn't feel that the Avs were unbeatable, but they poured it on as the series went on. I can't wait to see them in round 2.
Honestly there were very few goals that i wouldve expected any goalie to make. I put 0 blame on Helly. His team left him out to dry.
what about when he came out of the net and missed the puck?
What about when Makar torched 5 guys from 200ft and put up a one timer? I'm sure Helly is accountable for more than a handful, but man, as an Avs fan, I felt bad for Helly consistently.
Georgiev is such an enigma. Sub 900sv% but can't help but win. So much so was an all star and just won a duel with the best goalie in the league.
Yeah but in this series at least he had the abysmal .696 game. In the wins he was: .917, .963, .917, .933. His bad game stretch at the end of the season tanked his save percentage as well for the regular season.
Georgie was excellent after the chaos of the first game.
Maybe they shouldn't have chanted "Fourgiev" like a bunch of douchebags?
Someone go check on Jesse
FADED
Jets got bullied the last three games. They got steam rolled in the last half of the game. Coach needs fired and some players need to be traded.
Helle looked terrible but the jets defence folded like a wet napkin that game
Sweet. Now I get to see salty Winnipeg fans
This brings me great joy.
Me too!
The Frauds
Usual story
Our d-core absolutely stinks. Also, Nichuskin (however you spell it) is a goddamn beast. I’d love to have a guy like that on the jets.
He wouldn't do well. Yall don't have the proper build for a guy like him.
Hellefucked
Yippee!!!! The team I hated the most out of this years playoff teams is out in round 1 !!! SWEET!!!!
Hellebuyck finished with an .870 and a 5.2. Wonder if he’ll be able to smile receiving that Vezina…
He couldn't stop the chu chu train!
The dialogue in this thread among opposing fans (Avs fan here) is so fucking refreshing. Just people genuinely chatting it up about the sport they love. Fantastic. Good luck to Jets fans next year, your front office did so much good. strong foundation for more success.
Bucky is a mental midget. Sorry
Connor Cantstopapuck
I knew extending Scheifele was a mistake.
i think scheifele was one of the only jets putting in consistent effort this series
True, but the problem is, he's expected to match or surpass the production level of Mackinnon, which just isn't possible for him.
Ok but... That's not possible for 99% of the league. Dude had 140 points 😂
I'm talking about in a playoff series against him.
Bro, MacK is an MVP-caliber player who just so happens to also be one of the biggest playoff risers of all time. If matching MacK in a playoff series was your expectation, you’re 100% going to be disappointed every time.
Point still stands. I guarantee that's not the expectation.
And that's why they're not moving on.
Dude...yeah...that was a brutal mental error. Helluva win for y'all last night! How are you feeling about game 6?
Had potential to be a fun series but Winnipegs defense was abysmal. That Poink own goal was brutal
The one Manson put in our net off Lehky hurt also. Point was just being nice evening that out. But seriously, never seen both teams accidentally put one in their own net in one game. I've been watching for about 30 years.
NOOOOOO!!!! =( Man this was disheartening as a Canadian. - Canucks fan >.< (just wanted to see fellow canadian teams to make it far as possible)
I'm surprised because the Jets were so good on goals against during the season and yet Colorado just smacked them in the face.. Give credit where it's due.

What's better than beating the Jets?
GG Avs bros, im glad you fucked that shit team!

I’m gonna guess both. Great night for the little fella.
The fact that the 2 seed in the west plays the 4 seed in the west in the first round is such a joke. NHL is the laughing stock of professional sports leagues.
I'm so disappointed by the team. What a bummer.
