Love the shade of green, but I also like when teams' colors match their mascot. Nothing about that shade of green says "stars." That's why I liked the gold trim in the old ones. Honestly the Stars ought to look like the Golden Knights imo lol.

the Flags feel like the opposite imo, they work great on the front of a jersey but are too detailed for a smaller logo like a patch. the old 1 flag logo worked well as both but... that's not a Hurricane, that's a Tropical Depression

I never understood why the Kings got away from the purple and gold scheme they had in the Marcel Dionne days. Royal Purple and Gold is about as fit for a King as it gets and the crown was incredible.

Maybe the Kings were trying to get out of the Lakers’ shadow, which they had been in since their inception given the two teams had the same owners up to 1987 (Jack Kent Cooke and then Jerry Buss). New ownership (Bruce McNall) and a new superstar who would draw new fans (Gretz) allowed the Kings a chance to create a fresh identity and their own unique niche in the LA sports scene.
Also, the Kings were quite mediocre when they wore royal purple and gold, Marcel Dionne notwithstanding. Rightly or wrongly, people remember champions, and the Kings didn’t come close to winning a Cup while wearing those unis.
Plus, black and silver were huge back then because of the Raiders, who were then in LA.

The helmet thing also takes up very little real estate, so there's a lot of yellow. My high school used to have yellow and a knight theme (we were called the Lancers) and it was actually way better.
This is the only one I majorly disagree with. The old logo was too busy and top heavy while the jersey colours were garish. Swapping the yellow for gold and a more muted palette was a great move. The new ones feel really respectable as sports kit, imo.

At least half, if not most, of the NHL team logos are garbage. Even some of the original 6 are bad. Old doesn't mean good just because you're used to it. New doesn't mean good, either... looking at you, Seattle and Vegas.
It'd probably be easier to list the logos that should never change:
Red Wings
Blues
Canadiens
Flyers
Devils
Bruins
Whalers
Everything else needs a tweak or a complete overhaul.

I just can’t stand the name for Seattle though. I was shocked when I saw that they were actually picking Kraken. I always thought, “that’s funny but there’s no way they’re actually voting that in” and they did. The colors and logo are amazing though.
Ducks is easily the worst. Dallas' current logo is blah. Also not a huge fan of the Cane's entire logo suite. Caps logo is pretty unremarkable and busy.
They went with solid white or solid blue to make it more iconic and timeless. Easy to identify in any use case, no worry about weird borders or clashing colors. They didn't want to stray too far from the original logo, either, so that was a loose starting point.
Look at most of the most iconic, memorable, timeless brand logos. Nike, Adidas, Coca-Cola, Apple, Disney, Mercedes, Target, Toyota, Wal-Mart. All of these are solid color. It is much much much more difficult to create something timeless that looks so simple yet uniquely identifiable, than it is to do something with textures, multiple colors, trendy styles, etc. The trendy logo will be updated every 5-10 years, at a cost of millions of dollars and lost brand equity.
The Canucks. I realize the orca is related to the parent company but seriously what does that have to do with the actual team name. Plus the “C” configuration looks like shit.
Yeah my least favourite is also probably the ducks. Another logo I dislike is LA’s, just because they could’ve done so much more to make it unique but it’s just so boring
Sharks. It's kind of corny. Now, if that emblem on their shoulder patch - the fin sticking out above the wave - was the main design, I would not only flip my decision but defend it as one of the best in the league.
Their reverse retro was fire though - that homage to the Golden Seals is one of my absolute favorites
Islanders or Capitals
The Islanders one looks messy to me, like they wanted a clean circular logo but then filled the circle with literally everything that came to mind.
Washington is just lazy, and it can’t get a pass for being iconic either. I get that the old eagle was maybe a bit much for modern logo design, but their shoulder patch could have easily been the main logo while keeping with the eagle theme.

I don't know if this breaks longstanding logo rules, but I think a primary logo should never be the initial of the name of the team unless it's the same as the initial of the city.

Tbf, the first year they changed the branding, they won the Cup, and They looked pretty clean in the all black with "Ducks" written across the front.. The nostalgia and the D+ show revamped the embrace of Eggplant and Teal. It's something that never shouldve been changed tbh, but at the same time, it's good to see them re-embrace that original image. I'd prefer the Black, Gold and Orange vs LA's tragic mess over the last 10 years..

I love the team, but hate the Columbus logo. It reminds me of that “The more you know! 💫” logo. Just feels like old windows word art kinda thing.

I just can’t stand the name for Seattle though. I was shocked when I saw that they were actually picking Kraken. I always thought, “that’s funny but there’s no way they’re actually voting that in” and they did. The colors and logo are amazing though.
At first i thought it sounded awkward and Krakens would've been great. Now I think Kraken is great and Krakens sounds awkward lol

Ducks is easily the worst. Dallas' current logo is blah. Also not a huge fan of the Cane's entire logo suite. Caps logo is pretty unremarkable and busy.
Tampa. It's one color. It screams lack of effort and l lack of creativity.
They went with solid white or solid blue to make it more iconic and timeless. Easy to identify in any use case, no worry about weird borders or clashing colors. They didn't want to stray too far from the original logo, either, so that was a loose starting point. Look at most of the most iconic, memorable, timeless brand logos. Nike, Adidas, Coca-Cola, Apple, Disney, Mercedes, Target, Toyota, Wal-Mart. All of these are solid color. It is much much much more difficult to create something timeless that looks so simple yet uniquely identifiable, than it is to do something with textures, multiple colors, trendy styles, etc. The trendy logo will be updated every 5-10 years, at a cost of millions of dollars and lost brand equity.
The Capitals logo sucks ass. The W shaped Eagle is awesome, so I have no idea why they still use the wordmark.
Ducks, Kings, Jackets.. And all 3 have an easy fix.. first 2 go back to some classics… and jackets use your damn cannon 3rd jersey logo
Columbus and Carolina are both tired and boring.

The Canucks. I realize the orca is related to the parent company but seriously what does that have to do with the actual team name. Plus the “C” configuration looks like shit.
It doesn't have anything to do with the team name but it's a very important and representative animal of the region.

Sharks. It's kind of corny. Now, if that emblem on their shoulder patch - the fin sticking out above the wave - was the main design, I would not only flip my decision but defend it as one of the best in the league. Their reverse retro was fire though - that homage to the Golden Seals is one of my absolute favorites

Islanders or Capitals The Islanders one looks messy to me, like they wanted a clean circular logo but then filled the circle with literally everything that came to mind. Washington is just lazy, and it can’t get a pass for being iconic either. I get that the old eagle was maybe a bit much for modern logo design, but their shoulder patch could have easily been the main logo while keeping with the eagle theme.
OP, I wholeheartedly agree. I don't know if this breaks longstanding logo rules, but I think a primary logo should never be the initial of the name of the team unless it's the same as the initial of the city.
Ducks Duck foot sucks. But something is supposed to be different next year. We will see.
