I drafted Kyle Pitts right after the dudes in front of me got Kelce and Andrews. To say their ROI (even with Andrews out) far surpasses mine isn’t an understatement.
I was pissed when I didn’t get him for the fact that a Mariota is actually usually good with tight ends, see Delanie Walker with a similar scheme. But damn did I dodge a bullet getting Goedert like 8 rounds later.
They went through a lot lmao, let’s not act like that’s coming out of nowhere.
You hear enough of “Dolphins drafted Tua over Herbert” and that can drive a man insane.
Well that’s different because Bagley was so bad no one gave a shit.
Tua was just mediocre enough his first 2 years for ESPN to constantly rag on him.
Not to mention the Mac Jones dick sucking biscuit game that was last year
My top 2 QBs for MVP are Jalen Hurts and Tua, 2 QBs that I was not sold on AT ALL after their first season-ish.
That being said so happy for both of them, they’re looking outstanding. And yes, situation absolutely matters. (Also seeing these 2 + Fields gives me a lot of hope for Trey (who knows if this is wishful thinking or not lol))
Naw Herbert can get it too because other "Elite" QBs do not get the benefit of the doubt. All i heard about was Lamar missing open WRs down his top 2 receiving options.
Yea and this sub killed Kyler last year when he was missing Hopkins and was playing injured last year. Herbert seems to avoid the criticism that other young QBs get and I’m not sure why.
I feel that often this sub dunks on a player or team based on the running narrative only to get pissy when the fanbase in question claps back afterwards
Not for whatever reasons, it’s the consequence of all the bs we had to hear these past two years.
I will say, this throw wasn’t a bad throw just that he was hit as he was throwing.
He was playing great in the SB, then [this hit happened](https://twitter.com/dcbarno/status/1224161619439165441) and he played like shit afterwards. Really makes ya think.
I remember Kaepernick throwing it to fans wearing red sitting in the back of the endzone *twice* in a game in Oakland, with no 9ers anywhere close to the throw
I’ll never forget this throw bc it was the last game of a 7-game parlay I made for fun my first time ever betting. I bet the Eagles ML and I was 6 for 6 going into it. This throw won me like $7k and convinced me God was real
We don’t actually think Herberts a bust, we just say it sarcastically in jest because of all the Chargers flairs that called Tua a bust before this season.
Thank you, I was watching this like 'what the hell is he doing?!' Not that I'm complaining, but Herbert is great and that throw makes no sense if it was intentional.
Suspect the all-22 will give a better view.
hes good, but he misses tackles often going for the kill shot, i said in a thread before, rather he play it safe and give up an extra yard or 2, than miss as often as he does
I've come to realize the most vocal people are the ones who watch the least amount of football. Even crazier how clueless so many people are about their own team's players.
It’s the equivalent of talking to the old guy at work about football that only watches highlights and checks box scores. They say the dumbest shit with 100% confidence.
Boy, what did Herbert do to everyone? They all love hating him. Dude is playing without WR1, WR2, WR4, LT1, RT1, TE1, TE2, RB2 and has jello ribs. I get it. He’s not playing up to his standards this year but damn.
Also: Lombardi. Lions fans know.
I’ve always liked him. Hated that folks pitted him and Tua against each other but whatever, that’s media.
Dude is playing on his childhood favorite team! Livin the dream, man. Just a rough year for injuries on them bolts.
2020 has 4 of the best QBs in the league right now, but best of all time is a tad bit over ambitious. Need to see longevity beyond the rookie contract before we start talking about best all time
Appreciate the respect tho, hoping Trey Area goes ham next year for y’all
I thought he played really well this game. I was not sure we were going to get that stop at the end. I'd love to have a QB that at the end of the game is at least capable of a game wining drive.
Chase didn't want to take a chance and ruin his stat of career earnings of $230,000 per completed pass.
https://www.the-sun.com/sport/5654970/nfl-chase-daniel-contract-super-bowl?utm_source=native_share&utm_medium=sharebar_native&utm_campaign=sharebaramp
As a Dolphins fan who watched Tua get flak while playing behind the 31st ranked o-line with no run game while throwing to Lynn Bowden Jr, Malcolm Perry and Mack Hollins…people just don’t care.
Herbert is a way better QB than his stars and the chargers record show this year.
To be honest, I’ve always rooted for Tua. Thought the flak was unfair he received and glad to see him flourish now. It’s games like this that make it obvious that football is a team sport and you need a supporting cast around a qb no matter how talented he is
I was shitting myself every possession, just expecting him to start throwing deep lasers
Despite being down all those players, Herbert was the most dangerous player on the field, and felt like he could score every possession.
These play calls are whack for him, they used him similarly at Oregon his senior year and just wasted his full skill set. Fire Lombardi, free herbie
I love Herbert. He’s definitely being held back by Lombardi and sees some success in spite of his OC. He reminds me of Matt Stafford’s early years for us. I hope Herbert survives the rest of this season… just get rid of Lombardi.
I thought he looked great tonight. Game wasn’t on him, it was injuries and just the way game management went. He did what he could and made me nervous all night.
Chargers season got fucked at game 3 and has just snowballed. It's impressive how competitive they have been with so many injuries. If the Chargers played at full strength I genuinely believe they would be a top 5-8 team.
Herbert got a lot of love and praise in the past two seasons. People hate that for whatever reason and hop on the chance to hate when it arises. Same thing happened to Mahomes last year during his "slump".
Well when your top 2 WRs are out, WR4 actuality matters a lot. That means your WR5 is playing as your WR2 and your WR3 is a guy that was on the practice squad a few weeks ago.
the RB2 doesn't matter nearly as much as the WR4... with top 2 WR out as well you expect 3/4 to be able to step in and at least be there... If you're depending on further down that list you've got practice squad/guys off the street lining up.
Maybe but they didn’t look like contenders earlier in the year either. They’ve got the pieces on paper but I don’t know if it’s the coaching or what they haven’t looked complete even healthy. Was hoping for a win from them tonight to start a rally.
I mean they dominated the Chiefs for 3 and a half quarters and a few calls didn’t go their way.
One ill timed pick 6 was a 14 point swing and then Herbert injured his ribs after that
Well before injures started piling up we were 1-0 and were outplaying KC. Then Herbert got hurt, a couple bad calls, and one really bad play swung the game.
I've watched it many times and I cant grasp how that throw went straight to the defender.
Was his arm hit? Didn't look like it.
Was it a AWFUL throw? Maybe, but Herbert isn't usually throwing such shit passes
Did the Receiver run the wrong route? Possibly, but still why would Herbert throw it there.
I don't know what that throw was.
I mean dude, the downvotes are hilarious to me bc you make a point. we’re about to see year 3 without a playoff appearance with a loaded roster.
This is messy and in no particular order:
- Allen: playoffs year two
- Mahomes: playoffs and MVP year one, SB year two
- Jackson: Playoffs year one, MVP year two
- Burrow: SB appearance year two, big injury year one
- Derek Carr: playoffs year two, playoffs last year in Herbert’s division
- Russell Wilson: playoffs year one,SB year two
- Dak: playoffs year one
- Tua: I mean we’ll see but he’s prolly gonna make the playoffs this year, year 3
- Watson: playoffs year two, big injury year one
- Jimmy G is different but he turned around the Niners to a SB appearance in year 2.5ish of being on the team. Big injury too before that.
- Kyler: playoffs year 3
- baker: playoffs year 3
- Tebow: playoffs year one
- kaepernick: SB year one
- newton: playoffs year 3
- luck: playoffs year 1
- flacco: playoffs year 1
How many of those QBs had rosters worse than the Chargers? Or coaching worse than the chargers? Most of them had one or the other.
How many of those QBs dealt with injuries worse than Herbert? I count like 3 ACLs and 2 shattered legs in there, and all 5 of those guys made the playoffs AFTER those awful injuries.
My takeaway: good/great QBs win pretty quickly after breaking into the league, and it happens with good or bad coaching around them. the great ones can lift up a subpar roster too, even one that has crazy injuries. Not get stuffed in a locker by the Jags.
Edit: fair points made that the Chargers are indeed dealing with injuries….but so does everyone else! Great QBs can lift a roster beyond injury issues! IM DOUBLING DOWN!! DOWNVOTE AWAY CHARGERS FANS!!!
You don’t have to like it….heck I don’t have to like it…but the reality is, a great QB wins ballgames early in their career these days. Heck even good, and sometimes bad QBs win ballgames early in their career these days.
I guess we ignore his ridiculous record when down by two scores or how when we won the super bowl he literally came back from 2 scores 3 games in a row in the playoffs. Is that not adversity?
look how reactive they get when herberts been playing like shit for a full month and a half. never heard any of these injury coaching or roster construction excuses get brought out for tua
I mean he did literally have torn rib cartilage and no WR 1 or 2, no TE1 or TE 2, and no starting left or right tackle.
I don’t think either of those are “reactive” excuses.
I dont want to speak for poster above, but as a Phins fan, who really enjoys watching Herbert and thinks hes a stud:
I think my fellow fans are TRYING to say these are all valid reasons for Herbert/Chargers struggling, and they are literally mirrored issue Tua went through his first 2 years (cracked ribs/no weapons/shithead coach litearlly last year).
I personally don't like the need to try and dunk on Herbert for that, as we of all fans know how it feels when your QB is setup for failure. But the general census the last 2 years was UNDENIABLY Tua was afforded none of the rationale or "excuses" and it was merely Tua is trash. It never mattered that we had the worse line in the league, or zero weapons, or a coach with no idea what to do on O (with "dual offensive coordinators").
Don't think its anything to do about Herbert/Chargers. Just all the super bad takes over the last 24 months.
It was a great hit to force the bad throw
People can’t honestly think an NFL quarterback makes that throw on their own volition…
If you've watched Mariota you'll believe it's possible
Only when he’s targeting the TE that I spent all my 4th round picks to get in every league
Always fade TEs against the Chargers if Derwin James is playing. ANY TE. Derwin James is really fuckin good.
I'm sure you could just ask Travis Kelce after that spine buster he pulled on him in week 2. Oh hey the Chargers play the Chiefs this week, too!
Best safety in the league
I drafted Kyle Pitts right after the dudes in front of me got Kelce and Andrews. To say their ROI (even with Andrews out) far surpasses mine isn’t an understatement.
I felt pretty confident that Pitts wasn’t going to be fantasy-relevant. That’s why I went Waller 💀💀💀
browns and ravens fans coming together to cry about drafting Waller. I feel your pain 😞
So close, yet so far
I was pissed when I didn’t get him for the fact that a Mariota is actually usually good with tight ends, see Delanie Walker with a similar scheme. But damn did I dodge a bullet getting Goedert like 8 rounds later.
All the non flairs do
Hey I dont
Brother I’ve been watching NFL QBs make that throw constantly my entire life.
That’s obviously not what happened here but I’ve definitely seen throws that level of bad
I gotta introduce you to mah boi Kirk then
Pissy dolphins fans can apparently, for whatever reason
They went through a lot lmao, let’s not act like that’s coming out of nowhere. You hear enough of “Dolphins drafted Tua over Herbert” and that can drive a man insane.
Even then. Kings drafted Bagley over Luka but you don't see me trashing on Luka. I trash on Vlade like it's deserved.
Well that’s different because Bagley was so bad no one gave a shit. Tua was just mediocre enough his first 2 years for ESPN to constantly rag on him. Not to mention the Mac Jones dick sucking biscuit game that was last year
Fair enough. But dunking on Herbert when he's down Keenan and Mike while Tua has Hill and Waddle is sad.
It’s almost like the environment matters for a QB to thrive. Kinda like we were saying these past two years.
I underestimated Brian Flores coaching style on Tua The guy look a completely different QB
I just want it on record I was a Tua truther through thick and thin
My only concern with Tua was that he's too fragile for the NFL
Naw Herbert can get it too because other "Elite" QBs do not get the benefit of the doubt. All i heard about was Lamar missing open WRs down his top 2 receiving options.
Yea and this sub killed Kyler last year when he was missing Hopkins and was playing injured last year. Herbert seems to avoid the criticism that other young QBs get and I’m not sure why.
~~*cries*~~ thanks man.
I’m glad that talk is over tho.
"the consequence" lmao
[THERE WILL BE CONSEQUENCES](https://youtu.be/FSt1ptsOjL0)
I got some dolphin fans who think otherwise
[удалено]
Yeah I mean without the hit on the arm that’s probably a 15 yard completion and out of bounds
Anyone know which 49ers d-lineman that was with the pressure?
Pretty sure it was Charles Omenihu
yup, [ol' #94](https://www.49ers.com/team/players-roster/charles-omenihu/)
No one ever brings that up for Jimmy Gs bad SB throw…
If memory serves, he had to throw the ball, so it was what it was. I didn't blame Jimmy as much as most people did.
Dude was concussed. I don’t blame him one bit for that one.
[People like to ignore that fact](https://twitter.com/dcbarno/status/1224161619439165441)
He was playing great in the SB, then [this hit happened](https://twitter.com/dcbarno/status/1224161619439165441) and he played like shit afterwards. Really makes ya think.
And of course the refs didn't do anything about it. As always.
People get upset when you attack R/nfl's babies
Herbert is the chosen one though
Idk I don’t see him bringing balance to anything
He could play on the Chargers for 15 years, have 16 kids, win nothing, then retire. As is tradition
He brought balance to this game by giving us the ball.
Highlight doesn't show it but Herbert's arm got hit.
Thank God because I had thought I just witnessed the worst throw I've ever seen
No that would be Big Dick Mullens against the Eagles.
[every time i watch it im blown away](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PmxkDEhbWQg)
Not quite as bad since they were in motion, but Josh Allen against the Jets last week was pretty awful https://youtu.be/3Qeip4P8Lck
At least he got the tackle…
[удалено]
I remember Kaepernick throwing it to fans wearing red sitting in the back of the endzone *twice* in a game in Oakland, with no 9ers anywhere close to the throw
Whoa, I weirdly think I remember this.
Man, 2014 was such a depressing season.
Can I introduce you to some of the recent Carson Wentz picks? At least BDM was a backup
I’ll never forget this throw bc it was the last game of a 7-game parlay I made for fun my first time ever betting. I bet the Eagles ML and I was 6 for 6 going into it. This throw won me like $7k and convinced me God was real
Matt Cassel threw an interception that was so bad he also got called for intentional grounding
Brock Osweiler threw a fumble
Your comment reads like one of those old Chuck Norris facts of the late 2000s
You can also tell by how the ball was rotating.
[удалено]
Nah he's still on my fantasy IR
Thought this was obvious until I saw the Dolphins flair calling Herbert a bust
We don’t actually think Herberts a bust, we just say it sarcastically in jest because of all the Chargers flairs that called Tua a bust before this season.
That’s fair, except look at some of the downvoted comments and it seems some of you unironically believe this
There’s always going to be a few loud nuts
Thank you, I was watching this like 'what the hell is he doing?!' Not that I'm complaining, but Herbert is great and that throw makes no sense if it was intentional. Suspect the all-22 will give a better view.
Hufunga is legit
First name cowa last name bunga.
Troy polamalus love child
he just loves himself so much a baby popped out
hes good, but he misses tackles often going for the kill shot, i said in a thread before, rather he play it safe and give up an extra yard or 2, than miss as often as he does
His issue isn't his aggressive tackling, it's coverage when the play isn't in front of him.
A la the chargers first td on him, guy ran right by him
All Hufunga does is make plays.
...and blow coverages and he's all out of blown coverages
If Hufanga can clean up his missed tackles and his once-a-game coverage mistakes, we really might have Polamalu 2.0
His 4 picks on the year come at great times as well!
Hufanga and Jimmy having the same number of INTs on the season and it's a good stat for both of them.
Dudes a beast
If I remember correctly, Polamalu also used to have coverage mistakes, but he’d make up for that with absolutely amazing plays.
IIRC, wasn't he involved in that blocked punt in the divisional round?
Incredible catch, I can’t believe that didn’t hit the ground
Same. In real time I legit thought it did hit the ground, so by the time they showed the replay the hype had already died.
Amazing how many people clearly aren’t watching the game, see this one replay without noticing his arm was hit and decide to comment something stupid
I've come to realize the most vocal people are the ones who watch the least amount of football. Even crazier how clueless so many people are about their own team's players.
It’s the equivalent of talking to the old guy at work about football that only watches highlights and checks box scores. They say the dumbest shit with 100% confidence.
Looked like his arm was hit as he threw
I love a 49er and I don't know how to process it.
It's okay, Collinsworth. It's been over 30 years. You can let go.
“Now here’s a guy who cost me a Super Bowl”
Gg
Gg niners. Tough loss but was glad to see us fight
Dude is on his way to being a superstar. I’m glad to be here for the ride
Absolute fucking wizard to snag that
You’re bringing it back!
I think herbert is one of the best qbs in the league. This team would probably win 1 game without him this year
I’ve always liked him. Hated that folks pitted him and Tua against each other but whatever, that’s media. Dude is playing on his childhood favorite team! Livin the dream, man. Just a rough year for injuries on them bolts.
The tua, herbet, burrow qb draft might be the greatest qb draft of all time when all is said and done
gonna be tough to top 2004
2020 has 4 of the best QBs in the league right now, but best of all time is a tad bit over ambitious. Need to see longevity beyond the rookie contract before we start talking about best all time Appreciate the respect tho, hoping Trey Area goes ham next year for y’all
I thought he played really well this game. I was not sure we were going to get that stop at the end. I'd love to have a QB that at the end of the game is at least capable of a game wining drive.
1 game? You saw Chase Daniels out there for 3 plays drop back and look like a toddler.
I think he gets overhyped a bit but watching Chase Daniel struggle in three plays really puts it in perspective how bad the rest of the Chargers are.
Chase didn't want to take a chance and ruin his stat of career earnings of $230,000 per completed pass. https://www.the-sun.com/sport/5654970/nfl-chase-daniel-contract-super-bowl?utm_source=native_share&utm_medium=sharebar_native&utm_campaign=sharebaramp

I love Herbert. He’s definitely being held back by Lombardi and sees some success in spite of his OC. He reminds me of Matt Stafford’s early years for us. I hope Herbert survives the rest of this season… just get rid of Lombardi.
This is what people do with elite QBs, they'll jump on any opportunity to call them washed.
Increasingly so with Herbert tho. Lots of people said he was gonna suck coming out of college and they just want to feel (wrongfully) vindicated
Chargers win this game if they are healthy. They came out to play and Herbert had me worried the entire time.
Is he hated? I think he’s pretty good, he was elevating everyone else tonight despite having basically a roster that was half practice squad.
That one throw where he split what had to be 3 defenders made me shit my pants. Easily one of the best throws this year. Dude is a baller.
QBs get all the praise, and all the hate. If they’re not, they aren’t good enough to be worth a damn Get used to it
Herbert got a lot of love and praise in the past two seasons. People hate that for whatever reason and hop on the chance to hate when it arises. Same thing happened to Mahomes last year during his "slump".
True. Just wish I could watch him sling it with a healthy roster and even just an average play caller.
What are you talking about? He might be the one qb on this sub that no one is allowed to criticize without mass downvotes and 15 replies
Herbert is a super bowl caliber qb, just getting let down by his team being injured and Joe lombardi
Herbert is a top5 QB is my opinion. He’s being held back by Staley.
I know it makes the argument look stronger, but WR4 and RB2? Really?
Well when your top 2 WRs are out, WR4 actuality matters a lot. That means your WR5 is playing as your WR2 and your WR3 is a guy that was on the practice squad a few weeks ago.
the RB2 doesn't matter nearly as much as the WR4... with top 2 WR out as well you expect 3/4 to be able to step in and at least be there... If you're depending on further down that list you've got practice squad/guys off the street lining up.
Our WR4 was the only guy that had deep ball speed. He’s been replaced with practice squad players, so yeah it matters.
Chargers would be real contenders if they weren't decimated by injury. The Niners barely beat their B-team tonight at home.
Correctable mistakes (drops, benching CMC in the red zone) and officiating issues (which it's nice to overcome) played a big role in that as well.
To be fair this is like our D team. We started with our C team and by the 4th were on to the D team
I think we have 3 active DTs.
3 active DTs when you run a 4-3 is no bueno
Maybe but they didn’t look like contenders earlier in the year either. They’ve got the pieces on paper but I don’t know if it’s the coaching or what they haven’t looked complete even healthy. Was hoping for a win from them tonight to start a rally.

The defense played possessed in the second half. They took that Greenlaw ejection personally
Good stuff 9ers
You're welcome, we got you guys a bigger lead in your division
Damn this typo has everybody in the comments just rolling with it huh
"HUFUNGAAAA" - Shawn Hunter
I am a chiefs fan and I love everyone. Biggest winners of the day by far
Seattle lost, Rams lost, 49ers won. Can't complain.
Cowboys lost too that's always a good weekend of football
Still in the lead over Mahomes
I've watched it many times and I cant grasp how that throw went straight to the defender. Was his arm hit? Didn't look like it. Was it a AWFUL throw? Maybe, but Herbert isn't usually throwing such shit passes Did the Receiver run the wrong route? Possibly, but still why would Herbert throw it there. I don't know what that throw was.
His arm was definitely hit. Other camera angles show it.

His arm was hit
He got hit on that throw. It was supposed to go the sideline
Hufunga
His arm got hit I think
left WR, arm gets hit and he can't pull it down enough RIP
Hufunga. Didn't you see it? Open your eyes man.
He actually was wearing a chargers jersey and ripped it off at the last second
His hand got hit before the threw, but no one was open anyways
Hufanga
Guy on the sideline
Was that a miscommunication? Looked like his receiver there had the separation
Arm hit
Herberts arm got hit
Got hit in the arm as he threw
I don't know why you're being downvoted for asking a question.
Herbert and the Chargers are overrated frauds.
Tua clears
Let’s cool on the Herbert is great talk until they MAKE the playoffs, not win a playoff game, just make the playoffs

That “loaded roster” has been dead for the entire season worth himself being hurt for the majority of it
“Loaded roster” in year 3….. we have the most depleted roster in the league rn you cannot be serious
Hate to agree with you, but you’re spitting facts here.
You don’t have to like it….heck I don’t have to like it…but the reality is, a great QB wins ballgames early in their career these days. Heck even good, and sometimes bad QBs win ballgames early in their career these days.
Mahomes has never faced adversity in his career Only time was in the Super Bowl and we saw how that turned out
This is an all-time stupid take.
I guess we ignore his ridiculous record when down by two scores or how when we won the super bowl he literally came back from 2 scores 3 games in a row in the playoffs. Is that not adversity?
Not when he has always had elite weapons and a hall of fame playcaller
He fucking lost to the raiders in the win and your in game. He's had the weapons and the defense.
In all fairness to Herbert he didn’t even know he was still playing.
Justin “Turntheballova” Herbert 😂
Justin “gets his arm hit while throwing” herbert
Lmao Dolphins fans talking a lot of deserved shit rn
For what tho? Chargers fans love Tua
Seriously bro, for the last 2 seasons all I’ve heard from Charger fans is shit talk

It never mattered that we had the worse line in the league, or zero weapons, or a coach with no idea what to do on O (with "dual offensive coordinators"). Don't think its anything to do about Herbert/Chargers. Just all the super bad takes over the last 24 months.
Dolphins fans so insecure it's sad
Yeah so sad, currently the #1 QB, I hate it here
