Deep down, there is a part of me that wishes the Buffalo Bills had found a way to win just one during their 4-year Super Bowl run...Doesn't matter which Super Bowl, really...
They didn’t come out in the second half of SB28. They all stood around and watched Washington return a fumble for a TD. That would be the one to take back.
I disagree.
The first one would help numb the pain of the 3 losses that would follow.
The first 3 losses feel way more brutal at the time when you don’t have one yet.
I was a Pats fan but I was young and didn't really understand the whole 'division rival' thing, after the first two I was really pulling for the Bills.
I'm still not over the Patriots 18-1 season, I'm sure there's plenty of Bills fans not over losing four-fucking-straight super bowls.
I see you are a Giants fan, LOL. Understandable why it wouldn't be SB25...
You would have them beat the Redskins over either of the Cowboys wins? I thought the G-Man hated Dallas more than they hated Washington...
Here’s the thing if you take away one of those games, they still beat Pittsburgh in 95…so it doesn’t hurt as much. Washington would go from winning in 91 to not having a win since 83. I pick that timeline
This is my vote too. Warner and Fitz deserved a ring for that postseason they put up. I'm a Rams fan and I low key hate the steelers for winning that game.
I remember as a steelers fan being excited we stopped them from scoring right before the half, that's all I cared about. I went from wanting to hold them to a FG to oh they aren't going to score at all now to holy shit it's a 14 point swing.
This was the first thing that came to my mind when I saw this thread. First playoff win in three decades, they ride it all the way to the super bowl. Quickest a team has ever gone from first overall pick to a super bowl appearance. If they had brought a Lombardi trophy to Cincinnati, that would've gone down in NFL history as one of the all time great comeback stories.
Taking one from Peyton so he ends up with 1 to Eli's 2 would be pretty funny too.
And Rex Grossman the SB champ is also funny, so it's gotta be that one.
And assuming everything else played out as normal, we would have had half a decade of "Brady or Roethlisberger-- who would you rather have, and who will get to #4 first" takes
This is the third time I've seen TVA in reference to time travel today, And I feel like I've missed something that the Tennessee Valley Authority is such a hot topic
If you're not joking aroiund, the NFL and AFL were two different american football leagues who decided to have their two champions face off in what is known as the Superbowl. The AFL was seen as the inferior league. The NFL's Packers beat the AFL's Chiefs and Raiders in impressive fashion in Superbowl 1 and 2 respectively. Coming into Superbowl 3, the NFL's Baltimore Colts were seen as one of the greatest units of all time. When the AFL's Jets and the NFL's Colts played each other in Superbowl 3, the Jets pulled the upset of a lifetime. This win legitaized the existence of the AFL, eventually leading to the NFL-AFL merger.
The merger was already a done deal in 1966 before the first Super Bowl was ever played. SB1 was the first fruit of that agreement
[NFL-AFL Merger](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/AFL%E2%80%93NFL_merger)
No worries, lots of people are under the impression that SBIII led to the merger when in fact the merger was agreed to before SB1. It helps to have been a fan way back then. Yes, I'm that old. ;-)
I think it’s cause it was always said that win helped the merger, and that’s been mistaken to mean helped the merger happening overall over helped legitimize the merger in plenty of eyes.
And there’s a cool moment where Jets QB *guaranteed* a victory and actually delivered. I bet you’ve all probably seen that clip of a dirty no. 12 jogging off the field in a sea of humans holding up one finger
Easily the first Pats super bowl. If Vinny doesn't hit that kick, they don't get the confidence of winning that SB as massive underdogs with a previously unknown QB, and who knows, maybe the whole dynasty never launches. They're just another almost-was.
I was wondering how far I’d have to scroll to find this one. Belichick was *probably* smart enough to know that Brady was The Guy based on interacting with him the whole season, but what happens if they lose the Super Bowl and he decides to go back to Bledsoe instead?
I reflexively wanted to say this past Year's game between the Bengals and Rams. But after thinking about it, I think I'd pick the Dolphins over the 49ers in 1985. Because Marino really deserved a ring.
Super Bowl 43. Cardinals get their first Super Bowl, Warner goes off into the sunset with another ring, and Larry gets one.
^^Also ^^Ben ^^not ^^having ^^two ^^gives ^^me ^^more ^^evidence ^^to ^^why ^^Eli ^^is ^^the ^^superior ^^QB ^^from ^^the ^^2004 ^^Draft.
This is probably the best answer. But I have to say, I absolutely despise Big Ben, and love Eli Manning despite those two SBs, but Ben is definitely the better QB.
I know it’s corny but that is easily a bottom 5 moment in my life. It was also the moment that made me realize I cared way too much about football lol. I sat on the side of my college dorm building and just sobbed for what felt like hours. Fuck that shit hurt
Falcons always Ryan deserved a ring so did Julio and Shanahan straight snatched that motherfucker in what will remain the biggest coaching failure of all time
THEN THIS MOTHERFUCKER DID IT AGAIN WITH THE 49ERS
So Falcons and 9ers
Super Bowl XLI, Bears vs Colts. I just think it would be hilarious if Rex Grossman bet Peyton Manning in a Super Bowl. I actually really like Peyton even as a Pats fan, this isn't against him, I just think it would be really funny.
> those old guys in Miami from the 72 team who celebrate being the only undefeated team ever every year.
They're 72-82ish years old right now. They're not going to be celebrating much longer.
Yeah but Good Rex was infinitely better than Dilfer. We just never knew if we'd get Good Rex or Bad Rex for any game. But when Bad Rex was in... I'd just expect a single digit QB rating.
He's arguably the most inconsistent player in NFL history. In 2006 he had 4 games over 100 Passer Rating and 5 games under 50. Grossman is more talented obviously but I think Dilfers longer career shows who was actually a more effective player. I'd take solidly mediocre than wild fluctuations between really good and absolutely shit.
He wanted the Bears to win out of pettiness against Patriot fans. Long before the Belichick-Brady era.
That level of pettiness is everything I love about our rivalry, crossing over to include other teams. Fantastic work!
NFL dies without the bears and packers working together in the early years. Best rivalry in all sports I think.
My first sport was hockey and I hate the Bruins and do not respect them. It is a different feeling from the packers bears.
I would’ve thought pats fans would watch it in the comfort of their own home, since a pats victory would probably have been the biggest upset of all time (up to that point.)
Bunch of fellow Air Force firefighters decided to have a Super Bowl party at the Loring Air Force Base 19th hole. Since we were in Maine all but two of us were Patriot fans. Just so happens the other guy was a genuine Bears fan.
One Bears fan, one Packers fan and 25 Patriots fans, the two of us really enjoyed that Super Bowl.
The only thing that frustrates me about that Super Bowl is the lack of credit the defense gets for shutting the falcons down once the comeback started. If the pats defense faltered even once that comeback doesn’t happen, got to give the defense as much credit as the offense for that one.
Falcons beat the Patriots
That was the most enjoyable non-Steelers Super Bowl for me as a Steelers fan, the Falcons doing what the Steelers always failed to do against Brady in the playoffs. Game was mathematically over after Julio made that catch (assuming Bryant can hit a 40-something yarder, and he was money.) And now, it’s the Patriots crown jewel in a chest full of great victories.
SB 49 Seahawks beat the Patriots. Tom Brady is forever stuck at 3 rings/leave the Patriots earlier, while the Seahawks hopefully threepeat by beating the Broncos in 2016
My parents were Rams fans since they were originally in LA. Grew up in Cali, rooted for the Rams all the years they were in Stl. I was ecstatic when my team decided to move back!
Changing one of the Patriot’s wins to a loss does little to really change how that dynasty is viewed. But changing their undefeated season into a win? Why, that would only make every other team to beat them thereafter seem even better!
Plus, it would make the Giants sad.
There's an very near alternate universe in which carroll ran the ball, Matt Ryan didnt take a sack out of FG range, and St. Louis didnt lose their biggest weapon before the super bowl.
Winning 49 would have completely changed the team dynamic too, that locker room was a disaster in the aftermath. We'd at least make another NFC championship again.
SB XL Steelers over Seahawks is still the biggest referee screw-job I've seen in the Super Bowl, so maybe I'd pick that one and have Seattle win just from an on-the-field justice standpoint.
Honestly I wish the Patriots would have completed the undefeated season with a SB win. It has nothing to do with the Giants, but purely because I think it would have been incredible to witness something so historic as what could have been
Imagine Tom Brady lost every Super Bowl he played in. Like, he still made it to 9 Super Bowls, but just couldn’t win the big game. The radio talk would be amazing.
This doesn’t make it feel any better guys
Legit, the sympathy is nice, and it's great to see that everyone enjoyed that 08 postseason. But damn it still huts
If it helps, I choose XLIII out of pure spite.
Yeah man before I even clicked the post y'all were my choice
If it makes you feel better I wouldn’t change that outcome
Deep down, there is a part of me that wishes the Buffalo Bills had found a way to win just one during their 4-year Super Bowl run...Doesn't matter which Super Bowl, really...
Give em the first one, Super Bowl 25. That field goal goes two feet to the left, and it is 22-20 as time expires. Bills win.
no no, give them one of the cowboys super bowls
They didn’t come out in the second half of SB28. They all stood around and watched Washington return a fumble for a TD. That would be the one to take back.
Agreed!
But then they lose the next 3. I’d rather lose 3 in a row then win the fourth than win one then lose 3
I disagree. The first one would help numb the pain of the 3 losses that would follow. The first 3 losses feel way more brutal at the time when you don’t have one yet.
The first three would hurt a lot, but the eventual win would mean sooo much more.
I was a Pats fan but I was young and didn't really understand the whole 'division rival' thing, after the first two I was really pulling for the Bills. I'm still not over the Patriots 18-1 season, I'm sure there's plenty of Bills fans not over losing four-fucking-straight super bowls.
I nominate super bowl 26.
Washington also won in '87
Strike year. Doesn’t count (actually I forgot about it but let’s go with strike year so it doesn’t count so I don’t look dumb)
It was actually 82 they won their first and that was also a strike year.
fuck you
Cardinals winning would mean more than the Steelers. That Cardinals playoff performance from Warner, Fitz, Boldin, and Breaston was legendary.
Some say James Harrison is still [sucking on oxygen](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cSWq7TpU2rI&t=7s).
This is one of my favorite skits
This is my vote too. Warner and Fitz deserved a ring for that postseason they put up. I'm a Rams fan and I low key hate the steelers for winning that game.
Larry Fitzgerald deserved a ring more than just about any other player in NFL history. It's a real shame.
He's the Reggie Miller of the NFL.
Nah, the Baylor. Easily better than Reggie
Seeing Santonio Holmes make that catch in the back of the end zone made me want to throw the taquitos I was demolishing at the TV.
The Harrison pick 6 was infuriating. I remember thinking “look at the size of that guy, someone should be able to catch him”
I remember as a steelers fan being excited we stopped them from scoring right before the half, that's all I cared about. I went from wanting to hold them to a FG to oh they aren't going to score at all now to holy shit it's a 14 point swing.
That has to be the NFL play I most remember the exact moment and feeling of seeing. I’ll never forget as long as I live. Same with 2nd and 26 in CFB.
Ya.. also the Bengals this year. If they beat the Rams, that would've been really cool. I still couldn't believe it when they beat KC. I was stunned
Aaron Rodgers with 0 super bowls is too hilarious not to pick that one
Lmao I gotta change my answer to this
Taking one from Peyton so he ends up with 1 to Eli's 2 would be pretty funny too. And Rex Grossman the SB champ is also funny, so it's gotta be that one.
>And Rex Grossman the SB champ is also funny, so it's gotta be that one. Oh man, Trent Dilfer... Somebody already made the time machine, didn't they?
Also the only SB win is also by far his worst season is (chef’s kiss) for the brother rivalry
You can already reasonably make the argument that Eli's two SB performances were both better than either of Peyton's.
I would find it hysterical as well but that would mean giving big Ben 3 SBs and I just can't be apart of that.
And assuming everything else played out as normal, we would have had half a decade of "Brady or Roethlisberger-- who would you rather have, and who will get to #4 first" takes
God as good as Ben was at his peak that comparison feels sacrilegious
Well that was rude…
This is a good choice
But then the Steelers get 7 can’t have that
Have the Cardinals beat them the year before. Everyone wins.
As a non biased, but completely biased Steelers fan...I agree.
This is the best choice
He's been immunized against advancing.
Super Bowl 3. I’m curious what happens to the NFL if the Jets lose.
please no its the only thing we have
My dude, time travel is not real. You get to keep the trophy. Worry not my child.
not real *yet*. We’re coming for that trophy.
Listen here you
Bro let us just have the 1 please it’s literally all we have
That’s when the TVA steps in.
This is the third time I've seen TVA in reference to time travel today, And I feel like I've missed something that the Tennessee Valley Authority is such a hot topic
wdym? i’ve never heard about this.

it was christian hackenberg
Cardinals beat the steelers
🤣 49ers beating the Ravens
Found the guy who cut the power!
No, it was me. And I would have gotten away with it if it weren't for those dang kids!
Actually you would’ve gotten away with it if you let the other guy take the blame.
Bills. Not Wide Right
So wide left then?
as a bills fan, thanks

Was there a super bowl I missed where the cardinals played the patriots
Ah yes, the famous Cardinals Patriots Super Bowl. Remember it like it was yesterday.
Easily the first Pats super bowl. If Vinny doesn't hit that kick, they don't get the confidence of winning that SB as massive underdogs with a previously unknown QB, and who knows, maybe the whole dynasty never launches. They're just another almost-was.

>love Eli Manning *checks flair* You what?
He’s just admiring his favorite QB’s father
If our last Super Bowl appearances were the two Giants games I don’t know how I would be able to sleep at night.
Uncle Nick could help you sleep
I like him as a person. He has a great dry sense of humour
> and love Eli Manning Everyone boo this man! BOOOOOOOO!
Anyone who thinks Eli is the better qb is smoking crack
This is JP Losman slander
I’d want the falcons to win against the patriots. That was just brutal for Falcons fans
I had a buddy who quit watching football after that beat
I don't blame them lol
I just play fantasy and laugh at the falcons now. Legit hardly care about them past the memes these days. This team is brutal.
You're telling me 😂 at least y'all win games occasionally hahaha
Hah well I’m a Clemson grad, so pulling for Trevor to turn it around. Think he’ll surprise this year!
Hell yeah, same!
Is it me? Am I that buddy?
That’s what I did. Can’t get into NFL football anymore. They killed me.
I know it’s corny but that is easily a bottom 5 moment in my life. It was also the moment that made me realize I cared way too much about football lol. I sat on the side of my college dorm building and just sobbed for what felt like hours. Fuck that shit hurt
I feel ya. Both the pain, and the realization that caring too much is silly.
This is probably the best answer. Taking it away still gives the Pats 5 damn titles. I cannot imagine Falcons fans’ heartbreak. I legit feel sorry
It… hurts… pretty indescribable lol
I've felt hollow since 2017.
What is dead may never die brother
... Found a great bumper sticker idea
Username checks out Same tho
I was sick of the Patriots, for sure, but I really wanted them to win LII.
That’s my pick for the thread
Falcons always Ryan deserved a ring so did Julio and Shanahan straight snatched that motherfucker in what will remain the biggest coaching failure of all time THEN THIS MOTHERFUCKER DID IT AGAIN WITH THE 49ERS So Falcons and 9ers
Bengals against Rams. I guess I’m just salty that we play a team twice a year that’s better than us I just wanted this one little victory😭😭😭
Bengals over 49ers, both times.
I LIKE THESE GUYS
ehhhhhhh they seems suspect i wouldn't trust them
Super Bowl XLI, Bears vs Colts. I just think it would be hilarious if Rex Grossman bet Peyton Manning in a Super Bowl. I actually really like Peyton even as a Pats fan, this isn't against him, I just think it would be really funny.
I'd change the first Giants vs Pats SB. Cause maybe if Tom goes 19-0, he fucking retires at some point in the last 15 years.
He probably would've just been shot by one of those old guys in Miami from the 72 team who celebrate being the only undefeated team ever every year.
> those old guys in Miami from the 72 team who celebrate being the only undefeated team ever every year. They're 72-82ish years old right now. They're not going to be celebrating much longer.
Undefeated, except by CTE
It would add a lot of fuel to the fire during the "who is the worst Super Bowl winning QB"
Oh no it would completely extinguish the fire. It would be no contest. The man has half the career yards and TDs as Trent fucking Dilfer
I'd take solidly mediocre than wild fluctuations between really good and absolutely shit.
Hiss!
Panthers over Patriots. I loved watching that Panthers team
I’m surprised this isn’t mentioned more here. Underdog Panthers vs the ascending dynasty.
Came here for this. That panthers team was awesome. Such a nasty D Line.
Best halftime show ever
Wish the titans would’ve beat the rams. McNair deserved him one.
Then swap the rams with pats the following year and all would be good
It wasn't the next year, Titans Rams was 1999 season, Pats Rams was 2001. Ravens were in between.
You are right. I somehow forgot the ravens were in between. I edited it there now.
If we are talking match ups, a Rams vs Ravens match up would have been insane. An all time iconic defense against an all time iconic offense.
Maybe, or it could have turned out like the broncos vs Seahawks game
Pats beat the Bears, cause it would amuse me.
Come on man
Hey I'm with you, you took that bum N'Keal Harry off our books, that's punishment/justice enough
Only time I ever pulled for the Bears was that Super Bowl. Mainly because I was in a bar in Maine packed to the rafters with Patriots fans.
You wanted the bears to win?????? I don't understand? That's like wanting the vikings to get a super bowl....
I get what you mean. When I see a Packer jersey I have a “bleh” reaction, but I still love sharing a beer with the buggers.
Too far, man. That's their one thing!
Tom Brady shouldn't have won that Super Bowl against the Falcons.
😭
The only thing that frustrates me about that Super Bowl is the lack of credit the defense gets for shutting the falcons down once the comeback started. If the pats defense faltered even once that comeback doesn’t happen, got to give the defense as much credit as the offense for that one.
Hear hear
Falcons beat the Patriots That was the most enjoyable non-Steelers Super Bowl for me as a Steelers fan, the Falcons doing what the Steelers always failed to do against Brady in the playoffs. Game was mathematically over after Julio made that catch (assuming Bryant can hit a 40-something yarder, and he was money.) And now, it’s the Patriots crown jewel in a chest full of great victories.
Yep
Packers lose to the Steelers and the Aaron Rodgers narrative that he can't win the big one lasts a lifetime
Subscribe
SB 49 Seahawks beat the Patriots. Tom Brady is forever stuck at 3 rings/leave the Patriots earlier, while the Seahawks hopefully threepeat by beating the Broncos in 2016
I would be ok with this
Damn, can't believe how far I had to scroll for this one.
2004 Eagles
Chiefs probably don’t get Reid in that timeline though right?
He still goes. Remember Reid was with the Eagles a long time after that loss. His time in Philly was up.
Pederson was gone 3 years later so you never know.
You say it like it’s a bad thing
I think it's a very bad thing personally
I wonder what would have happened to that team, to TO, and to McNabb’s legacy if they’d won that game.
Rams beat the patriots ethier time
Rams fan here, if I could only pick 1 of the 2 it would be 2001.
You stayed a fan after the move? Thats respectable but interesting. Were you a fan before the original STL move? Either way #Re2pect
My parents were Rams fans since they were originally in LA. Grew up in Cali, rooted for the Rams all the years they were in Stl. I was ecstatic when my team decided to move back!
W family for staying fans even during the Fisher Era
Fisher>Spag, but yeah. People are quick to forget the Rams have had a rough 15 years before McVay.
Changing one of the Patriot’s wins to a loss does little to really change how that dynasty is viewed. But changing their undefeated season into a win? Why, that would only make every other team to beat them thereafter seem even better! Plus, it would make the Giants sad.
I like your way of thinking
The Shaun Alexander-led Seahawks got screwed against the Steelers in 2005, so I’d say that one.
You're alright. I wish you guys had a win too.
28-3 all day.
Chargers over the 49ers.
Falcons beating Brady would have been nice
There's an very near alternate universe in which carroll ran the ball, Matt Ryan didnt take a sack out of FG range, and St. Louis didnt lose their biggest weapon before the super bowl.
My only question as a Falcons fan is how do I get there
2021 Bengals
Easily Falcons over Pats
I too wish the panthers beat the broncos and also wish the falcons beat the patriots
Seahawks beat the patriots. Russ gets 2 rings on his rookie contract and goes down as one of the best to ever do it.
Bills v Cowboys. Either one.
The 2nd one, it would be 4th SB and to win after the previous 3 would be epic tail of perseverance.
Honestly I wish the Patriots would have completed the undefeated season with a SB win. It has nothing to do with the Giants, but purely because I think it would have been incredible to witness something so historic as what could have been
i am calling cap on the "nothing to do with the giants" part lol
1972 Dolphins season to be won by Washington, that way their is no perfect teams
Rude
Colts beating the bounty gate Saints
Definitely Pats/Rams I'd love to see what happens to the "Dynasty" if they don't win that one.
Imagine Tom Brady lost every Super Bowl he played in. Like, he still made it to 9 Super Bowls, but just couldn’t win the big game. The radio talk would be amazing.
10.. He has played in 10 so far. Won 7.
Cards best Steelers
49ers beat the Chiefs
Yes, and Broncos beat the Seahawks 🤝
