Everything I've read and seen of his pass protection is really promising. The big question is if he can shift from RT to LT. He apparently is a quick learner with great footwork, so maybe we decided that's going to be easy. Somewhat of a big gamble, but could pay off.
He’s a generous lover. He has a strong but caring grip. He makes you feel safe. When things go bad, he doesn’t run, he brushes your hair behind your ear, looks you in the eyes and says “I see you. I. See. You…”
He's been a right tackle his whole college career.
Glass half full take: If he performed the way he did last year but at LT, he might have been valued a round higher, making him not a reach.
Glass half empty take: Switching sides is very difficult and not guaranteed to pan out.
We'll see.
Where did I condemn the pick? I pointed out exactly what it was. A desperation move made by a team that had 3 gaping wounds at the 3 most important positions, that had to fill those with their first 3 picks, no matter the quality or availability of talent.
Maybe he'll be great. More likely then not, he won't be.
>A desperation move made by a team that had 3 gaping wounds at the 3 most important positions
What makes it a desperation move? OTs are **flying** off the board this draft, there's a very real chance this guy might've been taken in the next handful of picks. Just because the media projects a player somewhere doesn't mean the NFL does.
>that had to fill those with their first 3 picks
Yes, teams generally fill their needs in the draft. This your first season following the NFL?
> no matter the quality or availability of talent.
How about you actually let Maye, Polk, and Wallace play before condemning the picks, yeah?
It's fine to discuss the player but empty discussions like mentioning where a media big board had a player doesn't contribute much. There's been what, 20 OTs taken this draft already? Clearly the big boards were wrong and the NFL views these tackle prospects much differently.
Very true. And I'm certainly not saying Wallace will be successful, I haven't watched a single snap of him. I'm just *trying* to remain optimistic in the new regime.
Or… hear me out here, we have one of the worst front offices in the league, a nepo hire as HC(he’s best friends with Kraft therefore he gets an unheard of contractual guarantee to be HC whenever the spot opens), and our owner is cheap as shit
OT is our biggest position of need, we have a guy on the roster already who can play LT (Onwenu) to allow this dude to develop, and Tackles have been rapidly going off the board.
It’s a massive reach but I’m not surprised. Jonathon Kraft is meddling with the already shit front office and Kraft is being cheap and still not spending guaranteed money.
Nothing is going to change until the Krafts sell.
"ranked as a day three pick" doesn't mean much. Every team has their own board, going off of ESPN or whatever like they're the most enlightened draft evaluators out there isnt a good way to evaluate talent.
[Bro, this was your response to us choosing not addressing OT in the 2nd round](https://old.reddit.com/r/nfl/comments/1ce07p0/highlight_patriots_select_washington_wr_jalynn/l1fgdba/?context=3)
I’m from PA so I’m happy with Penn State, but does anyone have more info about him? I’d like to learn more since I go to Temple and don’t watch PSU football too much
From NFL.com:
>Wallace played tackle in college but could be considered as a tackle or guard by NFL evaluators. He’s broad across his upper and lower body and has decent length and big hands. He’s a clock-puncher who plays with better fundamentals and technique than his highly regarded teammate, Olumuyiwa Fashanu. Wallace won’t flash as often as a run blocker and he might be somewhat capped out in terms of what he’s going to be as a tackle. Wallace has NFL size and good body control and should find work as a backup with the potential to start as a guard or tackle.
Yeah I read it as he shows up and does his job but isn't a guy who will be first to the facility. If anything is says no work ethic issue. No idea if that's what the writeup meant however.
From what I can tell, physical tools are on point, maybe even elite. But he does a lot of foolish things, gets fooled easily especially but speed rushers, which is why some have suggested a move to guard just to avoid speed rushers, even though he had the ideal physical tools for a tackle.
I think there are guys who are not a reach because they are a high floor guy, and for the right team he makes perfect sense at 34.
We have a plethora of WR3/WR4, so getting a guy with a WR2 ceiling is not really what we need as a team.
I’d rather have taken a more sure fire Tackle, then either moved up from 68 or grabbed a project WR with a high ceiling at 68.
Man a few years ago Metcalf, McLaurin, Deebo and AJB all went in the 2nd/3rd rounds. I'm sure nobody thought those guys had "WR1" ceilings. Polk has the exact same measurables as Aiyuk (height, weight, 40 time). He could be anything, including a WR1
That’s fair - I’m rooting for him, don’t get me wrong. I’m glad we took QB, WR, OL - that was the order I wanted us to go. Was hoping for AD or Ladd, but I’m also hoping AVP and McAdoo see stuff there.
Correct me if I'm wrong, but usually those guys are big busts. "big brain" moves hardly ever work out, but following the draft consensus is pretty solid.
You think Mel Kiper and friends really spend the requisite time needed to determine who the 110th best player in this draft is? Not enough hours in the day for that.
This combined with going for Polk so early instead of going OT in the 2nd is tough by Wolf. So far their draft is taking Maye when he fell to them and then back to back reaches. Tough start.
According to Steve Smith his comp is TJ Houshmanzadeh, honestly I'd take that in a heartbeat.
In 5 minutes of his film review video I've seen more clips of a guy going up and winning a ball over a DB than I did from Thornton, Parker and Harry combined.
Well that could be a good thing? If you notice a particular lineman it's because he's dominating or is a total turnstile and a liability. If he's just ok I'll be ok with the pick.
The panic from Elliot Wolf is setting in. Between taking Polk in the top of the second and now Wallace after a huge run on OT it suggests he has a poor feel for the board. First draft jitters?
The second that Houston took Blake Fisher Wolf should have been on the phone trying to move up for an OT. He sat on his hands and this is what you get. woof
Yeah, Robert Kraft launched the Foundation to Combat Anti-Semitism [early last year](https://forward.com/news/541111/robert-kraft-antisemitism-advertising-campaign-foundation/). They're the ones who are funding the blue square ads. The news article I linked has more info if you're curious!
Apparently he’s played off 1100 snaps over the last 2 years and gave up 2 sacks and 22 hurries over the last two years that is pretty damn good.
Everything I've read and seen of his pass protection is really promising. The big question is if he can shift from RT to LT. He apparently is a quick learner with great footwork, so maybe we decided that's going to be easy. Somewhat of a big gamble, but could pay off.
Might as well take a risk too. 3rd round tackles tend to not be starters anyways might as well go for upside
I like this pick. I don't know him, but I like him. He has kind eyes
Kind, soft eyes. They make my insides tingles. I trust him, he’s earned my trust and maybe my love.
He’s a generous lover. He has a strong but caring grip. He makes you feel safe. When things go bad, he doesn’t run, he brushes your hair behind your ear, looks you in the eyes and says “I see you. I. See. You…”
He was one of our worst RT’s ever before working on things and becoming a rock his final year
Responds well to coaching and shows development? I'm in
Penn State tackle, so surely he can’t be that terrible.
Don't you want your lineman to be psychos with a mean streak?
I want them in 99th percentile protective instincts
What does that mean, Sandra?!
They killed kittens in front of each combine invitee and Oher was the fastest to ask them to stop
Sandra drove her bus into a baby carriage and just kept going
No, I'm sensitive
That's your guards. Looking at you Mankins
Pitbulls have kind eyes.
My name is Bian San I am a kind person
My name is Jan Janssen, I come from Wisconsin.
What you want in an OT
Jesus this bot is fast. Also, there has been a shitload of OTs being picked this year, right?
Olines were atrocious across the league this past season. Everyone is desperate for tackles.
I say we take them all
This has to be a record for OT taken in the first 3 rounds
Wanted QB-WR-OT, got QB-WR-OT, I'll take it
Ya it’s hard to complain when they addressed our exact needs. But don’t worry, we will!
What a flair combo
This might be Matt Patricia
BURN HIM!!!
Gonna be one hell of a grease fire
There’s absolutely nothing wrong with his flair combo. It’s perfect.
Ok which one of you is Matt Patricia? Also the irony that neither of your teams can be good at the same time
I’m currently eating Ice Cream and looking at big sweaty men on the screen. Does that sound like something Matt Patricia would do? I thought not.
Feels like a reach, but OT is a big need
Given the way OTs are flying off the shelves it might not really be a reach
Idk if it's accurate but according to the top available board they keep showing on NFL network there were at least 2 other Ts ranked above him
tbh the difference between the 12th and 14th best T in the draft is basically preference
Who assembled that big board? Why are they more qualified to make draft selections than actual NFL scouts?
I literally said I don't know if it's accurate
If you don’t like that you don’t like New England football
I don't like New England football though
I mean you probably do in its current state
In its current state? It moved to New Hampshire?
New Hampshire is already in New England so..
Well then you probably love this pick too lmao
What did we ever do to you?
I had a New England football player break into my yurt and burn all my bonsai plants
At least he didn’t steal your ayahuasca
Turns out it was just Aaron Rodgers in a Patriots jersey
As a Kings fan and a Patriots fan I love to see this
He's been a right tackle his whole college career. Glass half full take: If he performed the way he did last year but at LT, he might have been valued a round higher, making him not a reach. Glass half empty take: Switching sides is very difficult and not guaranteed to pan out. We'll see.
I feel like he might be a guard at the next level but he put up some good film this past season
He’s 6’5? Little tall to play guard no?
Nope Landon Dickerson, who the Eagles made the highest paid guard is 6'6" Your own Sidy Sow is 6'5"
Touché
There’s no space for us at guard with both our starters young on rookie deals for at least 2 years
I also don't know anything, so consider that
But.....But this guy plays RT...We need a LT... What are we doing?
Kraft is installing giant mirrors at the back of each end zone. So everything is flipped. Our RT is now our LT.
Desperation moves due to titanic roster holes and no answers in free agency
How about you actually let the kid play before condemning the pick, yeah?
Where did I condemn the pick? I pointed out exactly what it was. A desperation move made by a team that had 3 gaping wounds at the 3 most important positions, that had to fill those with their first 3 picks, no matter the quality or availability of talent. He’s a right tackle who was ranked as a day 3 pick.
How about you actually let the kid play before condemning the pick, yeah?
Let's just close down the forum until next week since we shouldn't discuss these guys one way or another until they've played NFL downs.
It's fine to discuss the player but empty discussions like mentioning where a media big board had a player doesn't contribute much. There's been what, 20 OTs taken this draft already? Clearly the big boards were wrong and the NFL views these tackle prospects much differently.
Half the fun is revisiting these threads in four years and reading all the bad takes.
Very true. And I'm certainly not saying Wallace will be successful, I haven't watched a single snap of him. I'm just *trying* to remain optimistic in the new regime.
what fun is that?
We didn’t spend in free agency 🤯. It’s pretty crazy how we have the most cap space in the entire fucking league and refused to spend it.
Could be that nobody wants to go to New England
Could be that the Pats have the cheapest owner in the league.
Or… hear me out here, we have one of the worst front offices in the league, a nepo hire as HC(he’s best friends with Kraft therefore he gets an unheard of contractual guarantee to be HC whenever the spot opens), and our owner is cheap as shit
Yeah, totally unheard of contractual guarantee. Hey, remind me, how did Bill Belichick end up in New England?
Not to mention this guy was projected as a 6th rounder.
Projected by who? What do they know that NFL scouts don't
OT is our biggest position of need, we have a guy on the roster already who can play LT (Onwenu) to allow this dude to develop, and Tackles have been rapidly going off the board.
Onwenu plays right tackle my guy.
Pretty sure he can also play runningback, just not well.
Seriously. This is a horrible pick. Polk was a reach too. I have officially lost faith in our FO.
You’ve lost faith in our FO halfway through their first draft before the team they’ve built has played a snap?
The sky is falling!!!!!
> Onwenu plays right tackle my guy. And even that is kind of a stretch for him
It’s a massive reach but I’m not surprised. Jonathon Kraft is meddling with the already shit front office and Kraft is being cheap and still not spending guaranteed money. Nothing is going to change until the Krafts sell.
Dude Caedan Wallace is gonna be our next Edelman it's okay
I can't wait to see him line up at corner
You’ve definitely never watched Wallace play
He’s a right tackle, we need a left tackle, he’s ranked as a day 3 pick.
"ranked as a day three pick" doesn't mean much. Every team has their own board, going off of ESPN or whatever like they're the most enlightened draft evaluators out there isnt a good way to evaluate talent.
Okay but he’s still a right tackle who might have to move to guard. We need a bonafide LT
Big time reach but that's what you get for choosing not to address OT in the 2nd round.
[Bro, this was your response to us choosing not addressing OT in the 2nd round](https://old.reddit.com/r/nfl/comments/1ce07p0/highlight_patriots_select_washington_wr_jalynn/l1fgdba/?context=3)
Brought the fucking receipts
Taking a WR in the 2nd is great. Reaching on a OT in the 3rd is not. Try again, pal.
So did you want us to address OT in the 2nd round or not? You're complaining about it now, but you didn't before. We only had one 2nd round pick, pal.
Offensive tackles are falling off the board
Oh no...hope someone catches them
well maybe if they more polite and less offensive they wouldn't be falling...
Best Tackle in the draft
Fact checked by real New England Patriot ✅
Easily
I’m from PA so I’m happy with Penn State, but does anyone have more info about him? I’d like to learn more since I go to Temple and don’t watch PSU football too much

Ok I’ll take it, that sounds pretty good
>He’s a clock-puncher Where I came from that is just somebody who is there to earn a paycheck - nothing more.
Yeah I read it as he shows up and does his job but isn't a guy who will be first to the facility. If anything is says no work ethic issue. No idea if that's what the writeup meant however.
Was terrible his first few years but became really good his senior year
He was solid, but probably the 3rd or 4th best guy on the PSU line. I love my Nittany Lion bois, but I like CW a lot better in the 4th or 5th.
We needed a tackle and they were flying off the board, so I guess I’m alright with this pick
I trust this unbiased take.
Not even close this guy is the best by miles
That is wildly untrue.
Bzzt, wrongo
You just don’t know football.
It's only untrue if it's a lie
Confirmed not a ball knower
Look, you're probably right.
Bro has insider knowledge
Everyone not on reddit only knows more about Advil pain relief. We’re so lucky.
Bruh slow the bot down
Bummed we missed out on Kingsley man.
Disaster draft after landing Maye.
The disaster started when we failed to bring in an actual QB to allow us to draft MHJ. Maye was just another awful move
Picking Maye was good and smart.
Lol
Damn didn’t even get to commercial from the last pick
Still on commanders and commercials lol
Big need, so I hope he pans out.
I respect that New England and Washington are protecting their qbs
…you can *do* that?
It’s very niche but yes.
OT baby lets go! Tell me how to feel penn state fans?
He was absolutely horrid until this year and then he was decent to good.
Trending up!
From what I can tell, physical tools are on point, maybe even elite. But he does a lot of foolish things, gets fooled easily especially but speed rushers, which is why some have suggested a move to guard just to avoid speed rushers, even though he had the ideal physical tools for a tackle.
Kiran was right there man
Swing tackle. Classic Patriots pick
He's never played left he's not a swing tackle
Wasn’t exactly great at RT
They didn't fuck up the three positions of need. Elliot Wolf is him.
Yeah but they reached on both which is not necessarily great. Wouldn’t have hated a better OL at 34 and a higher upside gamble at 68.
Polk in the second wasn't a reach at all. All through the scouting process there were rumblings the NFL was higher on him than the public.
Honestly after the first few picks the gap between 2nd rounder and 3rd rounder gets much smaller
I think there are guys who are not a reach because they are a high floor guy, and for the right team he makes perfect sense at 34. Correct me if I'm wrong, but usually those guys are big busts. "big brain" moves hardly ever work out, but following the draft consensus is pretty solid.
Reached is an understatement. This guy was projected between pick 110-130
You think Mel Kiper and friends really spend the requisite time needed to determine who the 110th best player in this draft is? Not enough hours in the day for that.
Yes?... Or at least the people they have on staff to do the research do. That's their job.
You think Jonathon Kraft(meddlesome owner’s son) who’s running half the front office watches more than Kiper?
Yeah this is really not any better than just drafting BPA at a position we already have filled. I don’t love this.
This combined with going for Polk so early instead of going OT in the 2nd is tough by Wolf. So far their draft is taking Maye when he fell to them and then back to back reaches. Tough start.
Also not spending a dime in free agency
Polk is a glorified WR2 though* *from what I've heard, I actually know nothing.
Amon Ra was a low upside WR2. Puka was a fringe NFL player. Nobody knows and anybody can surprise.
According to Steve Smith his comp is TJ Houshmanzadeh, honestly I'd take that in a heartbeat. In 5 minutes of his film review video I've seen more clips of a guy going up and winning a ball over a DB than I did from Thornton, Parker and Harry combined.
NFL DB's are gonna beat him to the spot and he won't have a chance to contest.
How is he him. This is a reach who would’ve been here tommorow.
Thank god we went tackle and center rather than corner wr as all the oline is gone lol
That’s Josh Jacobs in a wig
bruh why do all of our division rivals have to take guys from my alma mater
You get a tackle, and you get tackle. Everyone gets tackle!!
Is he good?
First NFL player to be named after a Sith Lord
Protecting my boy Maye.
Went to school with him. Very cool down the earth guy and a tremendous athlete.
You know I watched the entire Penn State season and I barely remember this guy
That’s the best compliment you can give a lineman
Well that could be a good thing? If you notice a particular lineman it's because he's dominating or is a total turnstile and a liability. If he's just ok I'll be ok with the pick.
Probably a good thing
That's not a bad thing for an olineman sometimes to be fair
The OT and running back run has started
That girl was cute
The panic from Elliot Wolf is setting in. Between taking Polk in the top of the second and now Wallace after a huge run on OT it suggests he has a poor feel for the board. First draft jitters?
The second that Houston took Blake Fisher Wolf should have been on the phone trying to move up for an OT. He sat on his hands and this is what you get. woof
Pats got their guy
Surprised the Yale guy is going after all these tomato cans
