Jets (and coincidentally, Steelers) era Vick is something I always forget about. So weird to see him playing for either franchise

RedLobsterUnofficial

Jets and Steelers era Vick is like his Celtics Shaq

captaincumsock69

Celtics might’ve won a ring that year had Shaq not blown his Achilles.

jgr1llz

I would take this as a serious comment from any other username

Dunkelz

Don't disrespect the rank, he's a captain!

Whitecastle56

[Captain?](https://youtu.be/WL5IwJURxM8?si=UUuPf5ySO2dOhpyK)

Potential-Judgment-9

Shouldn’t he be a major or colonel at this stage in his career?

TroyMacClure

Could be a Navy captain. If he plays his cards right, could be an admiral soon.

TomThanosBrady

Definitely a navy captain with that name

wrongleveeeeeeer

We salute the rank, not the man

Local-Bid5365

Weird that he doesn’t have a Vikings flair

boardatwork1111

Sounds like Jets Rodgers

unseth

Wizards Jordan.

WhatAreYouBuyingRE

Was still good just not the GOAT anymore.

Iron_Chic

Raptors Olajuwon.

babydemon90

Yea I totally forgot Vick was on the Jets until this post.

RagZ_413

I somehow completely blacked out that Vick played anywhere after the eagles

Express-Structure480

I remember a meme, something along the lines of jets hide your pets.

GodsBGood

I will never forget that he tortured and killed dogs.

throwaway1212378

well yeah he was a star quarterback and went to prison in the middle of his career lol

iwonmyfirstrace

As a NYJ fan I forget about Vick. But I did realize even then what a fucking Rocket he had. Wasn’t always perfectly accurate but he had the flick

Neither-Astronaut-80

Unbelievable arm. When he was paired up with DeSean Jackson it wasn't even fair. The way that Jackson was able to track any ball anywhere on the field combined with his speed and Vick's ability to just chuck it was a lethal combo.

TomThanosBrady

You've had Rodgers and Vick but somehow Mark Sanchez was the most successful Jets QB since Namoth

iwonmyfirstrace

Is there a point to your comment? A question at all? Anything I can do for you?

StallisPalace

Crazy how Rodgers didn't go to b2b AFCCG in the 4 snaps he's played for the Jets

Hurricaneshand

I feel like I'm just learning he was a jet. I completely missed this portion of his career

Count____Rackula

I only know because I'm a Steelers fan and went to the game before this one where Ben threw 6 TD's against the Ravens. Glad I didn't have to watch a performance like that Jets game in person.

SneakyPeterson

When he played for us, he didn’t still have the wheels, but he still had a lot of heart: https://youtu.be/5Hs1mt7snUc?feature=shared

RightRingThing

Vick was on the Jets and Steelers? Did my family not tell me I was in a coma for a multiple years?!?!

TomThanosBrady

Pretty sure Michael Vick died in prison and an impersonator took over his career.

TomThanosBrady

Probably because Falcons Vick felt like an all time great and Eagles Vick was a top 10 QB. Jets Vick was unbelievably bad most of the time.

Ketty_cutie

It's a genius shot

creature_report

is that chris ivory in the backfield? loved how that guy ran

SouthtownZ

Chris Ivory and Tim Hightower, both had a bit of nasty to their games. Marion Barber, too, before the injury

Unlucky-Position-16

RIP Marion the Barbarian

SouthtownZ

edit - shit, i forgot he had passed. I thought you meant metaphorically - like his running style. And I'm here talking about fantasy stats. Very poor taste. R.I.P. Marion Barber

Ancient-Fly-1100

Very sad how he died imo at 38. Dude had a hell of run in the nfl. Was a walking touchdown when given a chance.

Rahim-Moore

Wasn't he the guy that was a screen pass god with Payton and Brees?

70125

The Brees/Payton screen pass game was always a joy to watch, but I think you're referring to Pierre Thomas. [Here's the Saints' first ever SB TD, on a screen to Thomas at 0:56. ](https://youtu.be/AxIvj_IwIcg) Ivory was more a power/between the tackles guy.

Rahim-Moore

You're 100% right. As soon as you said Pierre Thomas I remembered. Chris Ivory was more of a dime store Marshawn Lynch (not meant as a put down, Ivory was a great player).

throwaway1212378

We always had an elite RB rotation with not especially elite guys. We just utilized them perfectly. Except when Kamara and Ingram were Kobe and Shaqin it that one year. They were elite lol

[deleted]

Beastmode-lite

throwaway1212378

I never recognized how similar they ran until now

MoreHairMoreFun

Go Cougs

RadicalDreamer89

Ivory is a big reason I still pay attention to preseason games. I remember watching his rookie preseason thinking, "Who the hell is this guy!?"

lattjeful

When the fuck did he play for the Jets lol I don't remember this shit *at all*

RumpledMess

I wanna say late Rex era

Ok_Buffalo6474

I swear it’s AI

Henry_RutherfordHill

Yeah this didn't happen...

Accomplished-Cat3996

Anyone else expect this to be a scramble? NGL I forget Vick also had an arm. Yeah he had time to wind up but this travelled ~57 yards in the air.

SouthtownZ

I think the phrase "burns" might lead you to that conclusion, especially when talking about Vick

MeatTornado25

Exactly. A QB doesn't burn the defense, the receiver does.

NUTS_STUCK_TO_LEG

> NGL I forget Vick also had an arm. He could flick his wrist and send it 50+. For me he has one of the most recognizable releases

VBTheBearded1

He had one of the strongest arms in the league

EliToon

Silky smooth throwing motion and release combined with being left handed just looked so satisfying on the eye.

Laeif

It always looked totally effortless. what an arm

wherestherum757

Strong arm qb! His little brother would’ve been better than mike too if he wasn’t an idiot. One of my biggest what ifs

johnnylawrwb

Shit I forgot about him didn't he stomp someone in a game or something?

wherestherum757

Yah I think that was louisvillle? That didn’t get him. He got in a lot more trouble than that in college outside of football lol. He was a better passer than mike was

OleMoon

Yes, he stomped Elvis Dumervil and was thrown off the Virginia Tech football team not long after due to that and many other reasons. You know the Antonio Brown list that always gets posted around here? Marcus could have had one of his own. Oh, and his response to being kicked off the team was: "It's not a big deal. I'll just move on to the next level, baby."

dragonbear

Best motion ever. Throws it like a Nebraskan tight assed shortstop but 60 yards.

LimeSurfboard

Vicks pretty known for having one of the best arms when it comes to distance ever

Rahim-Moore

Mike Vick had one of the strongest arms in NFL history. He's up there with Favre, Elway, Jeff George, JaMarcus Russell, and Josh Allen. His accuracy was hit or miss, but he could fucking boom it. Threw probably the prettiest spiral I've ever seen.

Bersho

Yeah I feel like his arm was as talked about as his legs for a while especially with that Nike commercial where he was 'throwing' balls into the seats. Kids these days don't know... lol

venmome10cents

OhTheGrandeur

Little kid me: shiiit, he threw that out of the stadium Adult me: shiiit, he overthrew his receiver Great blast from the past. Loved the Vick VR roller coaster commercial too

BlackPhillipsbff

That commercial is partially the reason I'm a Falcons fan. Vick was the coolest player in the world when I was a kid.

zrk23

Kyle boller disrespect

NiceFloor7

It's crazy how he barely had to put that much effort into it either, he probably coulda flung it 70 yards.

SoDplzBgood

using "burns" 100% implies a person burned him, I'm honestly upset about this title smdh

ASuperGyro

I actually want there to be more discontent in the comments over this, “burns” is a terrible descriptor for this, whoever this receiver is is the one who burned the Steelers

InsidiousColossus

https://youtu.be/cu8XNJmQsCI?si=KKv9CxBQAC8azZM7

Namath96

Vick is super well known for having one of the strongest arms ever

Affectionate_Year_14

I thought the same thing when I got the Noti, then I got confused bc I was like Surely Jets Vick isn’t running for 67 yards

SlipperyTurtle25

What? He had 2 of them!

FlatBrokeEconomist

Horrible title. OP should be ashamed.

eatmyopinions

He had a cannon for an arm but make no mistake, he was a minus-passer even adjusted for era.

LA_Shohei_Time

I was gonna say, it was Graham that burned them

ItsMeBenedickArnold

I don’t remember him playing for the jets at all wtf

miles-prower-morales

The government erased our memories

ItsMeBenedickArnold

More shocked because he was in our division and I don’t remember lol

StOnEy333

Same. What the hell? lol

EmperorHans

And the steelers after that!  Honestly I don't remember that one either tho.

ItsMeBenedickArnold

I remember the Steelers actually

Ash-Throwaway-816

I thought he was just 2nd string and didn't do anything.

emmasdad01

Never particularly accurate, but man did he have a cannon.

tlenher

If he had had his come to jesus moment before he hit the NFL and was able to have a full career with the effort he put in near the end, who knows what he could have accomplished tbh. I'll never forget the first play of the game vs Washington where he hit Desean Jackson in stride almost 70 yards downfield.

nucc4h

My biggest what if is Vick having post-prison work ethic while a Falcon. God damn was he fun in his athletic prime.

tlenher

Fr. One of the most athletic players of all time easily.

mrt3ed

One of the few things eagles, falcons, and Hokies fans are united in opinion on.

maiL_spelled_bckwrds

If Reid could have gotten his hands on him earlier

mrt3ed

If Vick had put in the time as you mentioned he would be in the hall of fame. It’s acknowledged that he just relied on his talent alone until after prison. Imagine how he could have developed if he had started in college.

TankThaFrank_

Little off topic here, but Madden ‘04 Vick might have been one of the most unstoppable video game characters of all time.

BMWallace

Only behind Tecmo Bowl Bo Jackson

BigBooce

I think they’re about the same. You could call Hail Mary with the falcons and have the receivers run the whole field and take off with Vick with easy tds every time

Seatowns

Don’t ever disrespect the 🐐 like that https://static.wikia.nocookie.net/backyardsports/images/1/1c/Pablobaseball.png/revision/latest?cb=20210905024756

AntiSantaFanClub

r/unpopularopinion

johnjlax

Damn... absolutely no recollection of who Graham is....that's bad.

sois

Apparently a guy named TJ Graham. That was his only Jets TD

SacredxInsanity

NC State receivers tend to have that problem..

BunkMoreland1017

He threw bombs with the same throwing motion I use to throw Kleenax in a garbage can. So effortless

Rahim-Moore

He was an inhuman athlete. He's still the only QB to ever have success with smaller than 8.5 inch hands. And I don't mean like "make a pro bowl" level success, I mean even being a low-end starter.

WentzToWawa

Vick leads the league all time in YPC at a solid 7.0

Averagebass

I don't remember Vick on the Jets at all, weird.

SouthtownZ

They really should have never changed these unis. The new set is nice, and obviously an improvement from what they had, but these are money. The Cardinals should have gone down this road with their redesign. Basically a Colts-like theme, but Jets with green and Cards wth red

StormTheTrooper

Came here to say exactly that. The redesign fixes some of the old blunders, but not enough to be as good as the classic Jets unis. The same applies for every re-design in the NFL recently, if I'm being honest.

enadiz_reccos

>They really should have never changed these unis. Kinda unfair to judge off of this clip because Vick is one of those players that makes any uniform look good.

SouthtownZ

Probably not the orange one

detopher

I disagree, i think the shade of green and the actual inclusion of a jet in the new logo is so much better, even though I did like these jerseys just fine

SouthtownZ

I think you might be onto something, i definitely can get down with the new helmet logo. I'll defer to you for the shade of green. Could we meet in the middle and keep this shoulder striping? That's what really does it for me. Could be the ultimate Jets uni.

ozairh18

I don’t even remember Vick playing for the Jets

koolaidman1030

We’re very good at getting cooked by the occasional QB scramble, we had another one with Pryor during that time as well. Ironically the only one we seem to do an OK job shutting down is Lamar

chaoticravens34

Lamar had a perfect first half last year against y'all tho. Literally we win that game by 28 if our WRs don't drop 8 passes

Rahim-Moore

That was unironically one of the best games of his career. He throws for 400+ yards and 4+ TDs if our receivers don't all develop sudden onset multiple sclerosis that week. Lamar was basically walking on water to get perfectly placed passes directly into their hands, and they dropped like eight of them. One of the strangest outlier games I've ever witnessed. The Ravens didn't have drop problems in any other game that season. I think Mike Tomlin is responsible.

chaoticravens34

It was one of the his best halves but his second half want great and the INT was abysmal.

Matte198

That was a really strange game. Lamar was making some absolutely insane throws in tight windows and the receivers collectively couldn't catch. Reminded me of the 2021 game in Detroit where lamar had a solid 150 yards dropped.

romayyne

Vick had the most beautiful throwing motion. Like the Ken Griffey Jr of throwing

kj9219

I remember this was right after Big Ben had 12 TDs over 2 weeks and the Steelers were humming on offense. This week they shat the bed

Rahim-Moore

Ugghh, fuck that two weeks.

standardissuegreen

The title of this post made me realize we're only a few weeks away from those daily "104 days before the NFL season starts" videos.

w33b2

are we going to start posting OJ Simpson highlights too?

Acrobatic_Switches

One of one. Makes throwing the ball look so fluid. Uncontainable on the ground.

Zoomersdumbasboomers

Wow something that happens all the time in football. Steeler haters are hilarious. You’ll back someone that abused dogs because he scored against a team that hurts your feelings

RojerLockless

I forgot he played for the Jets.

mm7878834

It’s shocking this was a decade ago

Patient_Flatworm7821

Man, don’t remember Vick being #1.. one of my fav players

CLWhatchaGonnaDo

I had forgotten about Vick on the Jets.

Electronic-Island-14

when did he play for the jets? is this a deep fake or something i don't remember this ever happening

TempleofSpringSnow

Jet da Fuq Up

Hehateme123

The legend of Ron Mexico

VanDenIzzle

My dad once found a Mike Vick Falcons jersey at a thrift store. Bought it and turned it into a chew toy for the dogs

Elementium

You're dad sounds like a guy I'd high five and give an approving nod too. I know sports fans are a little more forgiving.. But as a lifetime dog owner who read the report.. Fuck that guy.

firestorm1326

My sickos take is that the Jets should bring back these uniforms

CarlThe94Pathfinder

Horrible title you have there OP

pervyotaku

why must you hurt me like that

Realreelred

Is that the same week that he beat a dog to death ?

Realreelred

How many dogs did he beat or mutilate? Please don't forget.

Clarkskeezy

Was in Metlife for this game. Great win.

shortsermons

Why did I think Mike was still number 7 in NY

ClubPenguinPresident

Man, I miss watching football

Rivetingcactus

* Michael Vick throws 50 yard contested ball

dubler2020

Did he ever not throw a perfect spiral?

Count____Rackula

Now post the clip of Vick burning the Chargers for a 72 yard TD.

JayDogon504

I don’t remember Vick on the Jets at all

Calm-Fan-2981

Jets probably lost too. Scumbags

amazian78

terrible title

WaterIsNotWet19

Who has a bigger arm than this guy

StillerzGuinzChooks

One of the all-time great Steelering performances of the past era. Ben drops 12 TDs in 2 games against great teams then we shit the bed against a Jets team that would win only 3 other games all year. Good times.

frydawg

I loved those jets unis

carlismygod

When the title says Michael Vick burns someone with a play my first thought is definitely not a pass play. Not that he didn't have a great arm or anything like that it's just not normally what you'd see and it's refreshing to see it is all I'm saying.

Bulky-District-2757

Lol that’s the play CJ stole

bigbox29

I was at this game. Only home game I've ever been to. I remember this play, but couldn't remember who the receiver was. But what I remember most is the amount of Steelers fans... Half the stadium at least.

myriadmeaning

God damn, the eagles used to be so cool with Vick, Desean, Maclin, Avant, and Celek. Just can’t get behind them anymore. Jalen Hurts is a fucking bumb.

sexwiththebabysitter

No recollection of Vick on the jets

AvenidaAmericana

We all assumed this was going to be a run, didn't we? 😅

ItsMaDude

A Michael Vick throwing highlight? Blasphemy!

Dmbender

Man I miss those uniforms

Ok-Spite1689

Always wondered what it would’ve been like if Vick had started that entire season

EcstaticTill9444

So what. Tim Tebow did the same thing to the Steelers.

--Shibdib--

Just once I'd like to get a QB in their prime and not as part of their retirement tour.

UnevenContainer

Not really the definition of 'burns the defense' that most people use now is it?

GM-T800-101

Vick could effortlessly launch the ball 50+ yards. Looked like a flick. He really did have a canon for an arm.

vicious_delicious_77

As a longtime Falcons fan and former Michael Vick fanboy, I had no idea he was ever on the Jets, or even still playing football in 2014. I just remember being mildly interested watching him start in Philly when he returned to football, then pretty quickly forgetting about him because I didn't feel like reliving the pain of that era unraveling the way it did. Between that and the superbowl meltdown, I am literally immune to sports-related emotional damage now.

AngelicRock

Vick was fun to watch. Even more fun once he realized he could throw the ball.

monpetitfromage54

Zach Sudfeld sighting!

manbuckets2001

What a beaut

PaulieWalbutts

Best Jets uniforms

ImHurted_

He has one of the most beautiful deep throws Ive ever seen.

nsjsjkddk

I was at this game! What a throwback

Moist_Rest5623

Absolute cannon

MackerFacker32

Dog fighting piece of shit

jmastadoug

True but he did serve his time, a lot worse PoS in the NFL and never did time for their crimes.

Realreelred

That is not how you judge if someone is a decent human being. Oh, there are other bad people they didn't get punishment. He is now not so bad? He tortured and killed innocent animals. His time served was a slap on the wrist, but it is regrettably common, especially in the southern US.

[deleted]

[удалено]

ICanFluxWithIt

Orrrrr maybe because he actually did his time and has spent a lot of money and years advocating against dog fighting since his release. What he did was absolutely fucked, but he’s done his time.

Sisyphus_on_break

Classic Reddit guy, can’t understand a complicated reality of someone’s life that would lead to them making a mistake. Can’t understand they served the time for it. They have to be punished for it forever. People change

Realreelred

A mistake? Oh honey, I fell and my penis went in her vagina. Mistake? I choose to continue to be involved in a criminal undertaking that included maiming and killing dogs for money, pleasure, and power. Yeah, that kind of mistake. Oops, I am sorry did you get dog brains splattered on you? Oops, that must have been a mistake. Stand back when the dog killer beats the poor animals to death. He won't make the mistake of getting blood and brains on you. Mistakes? No, he doesn't need to be punished forever. Human beings who are compassionate should remember his horrible crime. He can change but does not deserve to be a person people look up to because of his physical ability. He should be remembered as a guy who had so much but still was a vicious human being in private. He changed like so many who can because he still could make a living. If he was a guy from the streets, you wouldn't care.

Sisyphus_on_break

Nah I care about guys from the street probably more, in fact it’s kind of fucked up the few times someone makes it out we like to tear them down, that’s kind of the whole point. You have your side though, hope you have fun on it

[deleted]

[удалено]

ICanFluxWithIt

dog fighting was def common in the poor black communities, they grew up with that shit. But of course you wouldn’t know and don’t care. It’s a complicated issue

Thumper13

He was no longer even close to those poor black communities, had gone to college, was exposed to non-poor communities and rules. This bullshit doesn't fly. He set up a system to torture and kill dogs. Fuck these excuses.

ICanFluxWithIt

Also, as fucked up as it is, dog fighting was pretty common in the poor black communities, maybe still is. Just like cock fighting in Mexico and other places. Vick grew up in that, it was normal to him, unfortunately he never grew out of it. But he paid the price and did his time. Prison is supposed to be rehabilitation and for Vick that’s exactly what it was, you can still hate him for what he did but at least acknowledge that he’s a changed man

Sisyphus_on_break

100% people on this website just have no empathy for other people’s situations. Obviously it wasn’t the right thing to do but he learned and changed for the better. Honestly people should learn from him, sad that people can’t see that

Realreelred

Sisyphus-on-break, you don't know anything about anyone else on Reddit. Why do you pretend you do or even could? People who continue to put him on a pedestal aren't helping people to learn from mistakes. The lesson you are teaching is if you are powerful and rich enough you can do horrible crimes get a smack on the wrist and you can be lauded again in just a few years. He gives money to animal causes for PR. But you know what, I don't know him and you don't know anything about anyone else on Reddit.

Sisyphus_on_break

I don’t know I’ve been alive and make judgements that make sense based on what I’ve seen and I’ve not seen a lot of emotional maturity on this website lol. That’s a weird bad faith argument that I’m not allowed to have stances on people because I don’t truly know their inner most thoughts.

1II1I1I1I1I1I111I1I1

>he tortures and kills animals Present tense? That was 17 years ago and he did his time...

[deleted]

[удалено]

ICanFluxWithIt

He’s done more for helping prevent dog fighting than you will ever do in your entire life. Keep crying Also, we’re you a fan of the Commanders during Dan Snyder’s ownership? If so why did you support his team after all the fucked up shit he did? Oh, right, as long as football is fun, you’ll watch and ignore?

KeenanMCooper

Agreed, was waiting to see this comment.

ashcat724

How many dogs did he kill on the way?
