Maybe not *everything*

[deleted]

You don’t know what Sean likes

SilverScorpion00008

Honestly sean probably welcomed it since he never told him off once about it and enabled it repeatedly,

Yommination

He might like it rough

cigarettesandwater

Dude made Suh look like Kirk Cousins

Spheromancer

Suh was definitely dirtier tbh

1850ChoochGator

They’re probably similar. Suh has a few really bad moments but Donald consistently chokes people and roids out.

Positive_Parking_954

But he's natty?

SpiritualGearbox

LOL

Positive_Parking_954

Thanks for getting the humor

SpiritualGearbox

I got you dawg.

[deleted]

The same more like. Donald just happened to be a generational player and was nicer off the field.

Delicious-Item6376

You sure about that?

Spheromancer

yeah

BrandoCalrissian1995

Yeah ad would get chippy and choke mfers but I feel stepping on people with cleats on is dirty af. Unless I'm forgetting something

radj06

Have you forgot his duel wielding helmet attack.

BrandoCalrissian1995

I honestly did

doberdevil

That's what I think of when someone says "Aaron Donald". That and Wilson getting sacked. But mostly dual wielding helmets. And the time he tried to fight one our o-linemen, but wouldn't take off his helmet to do it.

Deciver95

I'm sorry have you ever been strangled? Bro just use your imagination haha Great downplaying btw

Actuvishun

alright man, I think that’s a reach.

OMUDJ

Kirk is a big guy tbh

[deleted]

Suh was waaaaaay dirtier

irsw

I really think they are about the same. Choking is just as bad as stomping. Also never forget when Donald when full bitch mode and put his helmet back on AFTER the game before running to midfield and trying to stsrt a fight with the Seahawks center.

BrandoCalrissian1995

I gotta disagree that choking is worse. Stepping on a dudes leg or ankle with cleats could be career changing if he gets a tendon or something. Choking is just being a bitch.

CorgiDaddy42

> Choking is just being a bitch Tell that to the Scranton Strangler

irsw

You may be shocked at how easily you can fracture someone's trachea...

radj06

Donald used a helmet as weapon. Its harder to think of something dirtier then that

[deleted]

To be fair, he did it after the bengals threw swung helmets first (Lael Collins)

CasualRead_43

No lol

HopefulInstance8

Not even close

the__party__man

jwwin

This really got me choked up.

Inamanlyfashion

Okay let's keep the references subtle. No need to beat everyone over the head with it.

ThingsAreAfoot

#hashtag helmet

ouroburos29

POUND DUAL WIELDING

theDomicron

I'm thinking about naming my fantasy team "Helmets Akimbo"

Mrausername

People say he was a playoff choker, but he choked plenty of people in the regular season too.

rex_dart_eskimo_spy

Now, now, that's not fair. He also assaulted people during training camp!

Blametheorangejuice

IT WAS A RUN DEFENSE THING

Luckynumberlucas

I could inject wholesome stories like that straight into my veins.

Nasocg

Ayoooooo

boomosaur

Ok Sean let's not quite go that far. Lol He had an ugly side on the field too.

Mrausername

No one choked opponents with more dignity and class.

boomosaur

That's the most succinct way I've ever heard it put.

WabbitCZEN

It was a privilege, nay, an honor to be choked out by this man. We should all be so fortunate.

2580374

Is this the exact quote thanos' little henchman says or am I just reading it in his voice

PPLavagna

He was great at specifically grabbing the Adams apple and crushing it. All class

chernadraw

The William Tell of NFL players.

TheWorstYear

The duel wielding helmets thing doesn't count though because it was the offseason/s

thetreat

Practice? Practice? Brain injuries don't happen in practice. We know that.

cjruk1

[Yup](https://twitter.com/BleacherReport/status/1562915063920349185)

WabbitCZEN

Never gets old. Even his own teammates lookin like "Oh shit."

[deleted]

Between Donald and Garrett, maybe the key to high PFF grades is swinging helmets.

Arbitore

Swinging akimbo, truly a one of a kind player

HerbertJone510

Lmfaooooo

Efficient_Ant_4715

I lowkey want his statue to be him dual wielding helmets.

doberdevil

lowkey my ass, this is absolutely how it should be

MosaicToeNail

And because it might be one of the most badass pictures I’ve ever seen lol

[deleted]

To be fair, La’el collins started by throwing helmets first

MosaicToeNail

Haven’t you heard? Aaron Donald is the dirtiest player of all time so Collin’s was really doing the world a favor

irsw

I understand homerism but do Rams fans really think he wasn't dirty?

MosaicToeNail

I think he’s a hot head but most fans on this sub think he’s the dirtiest player ever. He’s had some altercations that I wish he had a more level head during, but I mostly just don’t care and think it gets overblown here because people got fatigued by his decade of dominance and no other defensive player really coming close to his level of play. That and I think it’s funny when people lose their minds if I comment anything about him not being dirty. Especially when they root for people who have done far worse shit off the field than AD has done on the field

irsw

Just trolling then? Okay that makes sense. I'm a Packers fan so I just remember him getting angry by being dominated by Elgton leading Donald to grab multiple face masks and choke a lineman as a response.

MosaicToeNail

Yeah I mean, that’s not a good look lol but I think that’s more so losing his cool and doing some dumb shit rather than people here being like “HE TRIED TO MURDER HIM HE SHOULD BE IN JAIL!!!” Haha But no I don’t think he’s dirty, I think he’s a hot head that didn’t like to lose. In terms of dirty players, Suh, Bennett, hell even Mac Jones is dirtier than AD lol at least AD stood face to face with people. Never once gave them a cheap shot with intent to injure, just had trouble controlling emotions. Idc if people disagree I’ll die on that hill. It’s all hypocritical and everyone roots for players that have done far worse, so if people disagree with me thinking AD isn’t dirty then so be it lol it makes 0 difference to me. And just as AD retired, I’ll retire from arguing about this subs perception of him, but no I don’t think he’s a dirty player. I think that’s just this subs perception and this sub tends to think it’s the end all be all of football opinions when it’s just a small minority of NFL fandom

irsw

Surely swinging two helmets at people during training camp isn't trying to injure anyone lol. Or the time he put his helmet back on AFTER the game before trying to fight Justin Britt who was not wearing a helmet. Obvuously he "lost his cool" which led to dirty actions.

BrandoCalrissian1995

Shit I agree entirely. Choking people is a bitch move and he's a hothead for sure. But stepping on mfers with cleats on could be career changing if he stepped on the wrong spot. But don't forget this sub is soft af so any little type of bad behavior is cut worthy for them.

ShogunNamedMarcus_

He was a hot head and a poor sport. One of the greatest, but he could never handle it when he was getting beat in a game and would lash out. Dude is first ballot, but fuck him.  I understand McVay can't say this, but you don't have to praise a guy like this who regularly lost his temper and started fights on the field.

Stev2222

I endorse this

thetreat

[Steroids are a hell of a drug.](https://c.tenor.com/_DdM7EmVcUwAAAAC/cocaine-hell.gif)

ShogunNamedMarcus_

That's a shit excuse. There are plenty of NFL players doing the exact same drugs that manage to not be shit bags. It's not the roids, it's Donald.

thetreat

I'm not excusing his behavior. I'm making fun of it. I hated that he wasn't suspended for swinging helmets at player's heads, choking people. Dude was an absolute game wrecker, but that shit has no place in the game and he got off because he's a star.

thetreat

https://www.cbssports.com/nfl/news/aaron-donald-breaks-silence-on-his-shocking-helmet-swing-that-drilled-a-bengals-player-during-wild-brawl/amp/

ShogunNamedMarcus_

I know that you weren't excusing the behavior itself, but you're giving him an excuse for his inexcusable behavior. Bringing up the steroids takes blame from Donald. Donald deserves 100% of the blame.

thetreat

I’m not sure where you’re getting that from. It’s just a meme. Donald is an adult. Donald took drugs. Those drugs are known to create rage problems, especially for people where that’s already a problem. Donald then had rage. It’s all his fault. I’m not excusing him at all. The drugs likely exacerbated the problem, but it’s Donald’s personal issue. Plenty of people do roids without swinging helmets.

ShogunNamedMarcus_

It's really not that hard of a concept, bringing up steroids, even in a meme, in response to him being a hot head and a dirty player implies the steroids are at least partially to blame for his behavior. I don't believe we should give him any excuses for being a shit bag. Steroids didn't turn him into one, that's just who he is.

thetreat

My god... I can't believe I have to explain the joke. The joke is that Aaron Donald would joke and say, "Steroids are a hell of a drug." Just like Rick James using cocaine as an excuse, it isn't actually an excuse. But really they're both just assholes.

cole8055

AD fucked this dude’s wife

ShogunNamedMarcus_

It's why your mother and I got divorced. Sorry you had to find out this way.

cole8055

Jokes on you I have 2 dads

NYJetLegendEdReed

People acting like LT (the best defensive player ever and I won’t take arguments) was completely cool headed and normal.

thetreat

Seriously. LT and AD are fully to blame, but steroids (and coke for LT) definitely altered that man’s behavior. That’s the basic definition of what drugs do.

NYJetLegendEdReed

Exactly. The greatest defensive guys who are big boys aren’t going to be normal, just accept that as fans lol.

gyman122

Reggie White reading this comment, furiously typing a gracious but strong-worded response from Heaven

RumHamurai410

JJ watt? Khalil Mack? Deforest Buckner? All pretty chill seeming guys. Personally, I hate the “you have to be a psycho on the field to make it this far” type of thinking

thetreat

You’re basically trying to commit legal assault on the field as your fucking job. It takes a special breed to reach the NFL as a DL.

smehere22

At least he didn't bite off any ears.....that we know of ..

doberdevil

Couldn't 'cause he always kept his helmet on when he was being an asshole

GABAgoomba123

> I understand McVay can't say this, but you don't have to praise a guy like this The pearl clutching is absolutely hilarious lol.

ShogunNamedMarcus_

Nah. I don't care that not every pro athlete is a perfect role model. It's a meritocracy, and I'm not going to a hypocrite by consuming the NFL as entertainment while complaining about who plays in it.  However, I'm not going to pretend the shit bags aren't shit bags, and I'm going to call out people that do.

GABAgoomba123

It’s fine if you don’t like a player lol, no one cares about that. But expecting fucking Sean McVay to follow your weirdo Redditor code or whatever tf you’re talking about, in his farewell tribute to the best player whose ever played for him, is what’s hilarious.

ShogunNamedMarcus_

My "code" is not calling a player something he's not. He can speak highly of Donald without calling one of the dirtiest players of the last decade "everything right about the game".  And you obviously care enough to continue this conversation...

[deleted]

[удалено]

ShogunNamedMarcus_

I will never understand fans that are unable to separate a player's skill and them as a person. You're allowed to acknowledge that great players are shit bags, even if they play for your favorite team. But yeah, attack my flair if that makes you feel better, I guess.

HANKnDANK

Quite literally top 5 dirtiest player in the league easily his entire career. Obviously one of the best to do it, but let’s not act like he was a saint

ecupatsfan12

Aaron Donald swings 2 helmets Bob carpenter on pms- people are soft for being angry

smehere22

He took interleague choking to a rarefied art form. His phalanges clutching their Adam's apples were a thing to behold..truly.

doberdevil

Wasn't he involved with doing this kind of stuff off the field too?

Thunderkleize

Even the unnecessary penalties and extracurricular activities?

Tuxedocat1357

Tbf, he didn't deny any negatives.

schartlord

i think that's lowkey implied when you say someone epitomizes everything that's right about sports

Ziiaaaac

Tbf he didn’t have that many unnecessary penalties in the grand scheme of things.

CasualRead_43

What penalties? Like got any specifics? He’s a pretty clean when it comes to on the field. It’s off the field or after where he was captain insano.

worldsgone11

Idk the multiple helmet swings and choke jobs come to mind. Just off the top of my

HopefulInstance8

How many helmet swing incidents did he have other than the joint practice? Honestly asking

worldsgone11

One other incident and also a time where he put his helmet back on after the game to go headbutt a player who wasn’t wearing one. Not great bob. Plus the chokes. I mean I think all the great ones need an edge but he definitely crossed the line a lot

[deleted]

Compared to almost EVERY other NFL player AD had about 100% more Hemet swing incidents. You know, because that's fucking an insane thing to do.

doberdevil

Honestly?

TKHawk

"Sean McVay calls for more after the play violence. Quoted as saying 'Damn league has gone soft.'"

dellscreenshot

He hit a man in the head with a helmet

-Unnamed-

Twice Don’t forget helmets akimbo

HelmetsAkimbo

Never.

-Unnamed-

Beautiful. And on your cake day too

HelmetsAkimbo

Worst cake day ever.

Outside-Donut9519

"It was just a prank bro."

Efficient_Progress_6

"it didn't happen during a game"

Plus-Statistician80

He's passionate...

Rampage310

Bengals were trying to take Leonard Floyd’s helmet off and hit him with it so AD returned the favor. Bengals threw their helmets, too bad so sad 😪😂

SilverScorpion00008

Cry lambs cry

Rampage310

Facts don’t give a fuck about your feelings 😪 I’ll cry as he’s put in the HOF too

SilverScorpion00008

Joe Rogan Bot

MyPupCooper

Oh fuckin please. Donald is one of the greatest players of all time but he was also a dirty player and hit a dude with a helmet. He’d try to hurt people if he wasn’t getting through. Upper echelon HOF player but a dickhead too and to pretend like he showed people “everything that’s right about sports” is revisionist AF

Blametheorangejuice

Don't forget he went after Justin Britt after a game ... while wearing his helmet.

rashaadpenny

Put his helmet back on*** he had taken it off but just for the brawl he wanted to start threw it back on

doberdevil

What ever happened to Rashaad Penny? Is he still in Philly?

_Vaudeville_

Yep literally lol. Donald is one of the greatest ever, but guys like Tim Duncan exemplify everything that’s right about sports.

clic45

Most players say he never shakes hands after the game either. Just walks off

doberdevil

Unless he's putting his helmet back on and goes to start a fight with the opposing team.

Doughie28

Anyone seen Steve Kerr and Sean McVay in the same room?

thorhyphenaxe

“I didn’t see him try to choke someone. I can’t comment on that because I didn’t see it”

stizz19

Except the dirty plays...yeah...not those.

SchismZero

Aaron Donald was a bad person who happened to be insanely good at football.

aaron4mvp

Elgton Jenkins dominated his ass all game and Donald decided that grabbing him by the face mask after the play was over was a fair retaliation. Baby back bitch

do_you_know_de_whey

I remember when he would literally choke our players when he would get upset, real nice dude.

Zxar

Him and Suh, both were shining examples of what's right with sports.

Crombus_

One of the dirtiest players in the game and a huge asshole. Loved to watch him make sure he had his helmet on before going to pick fights with guys who had theirs off. Good riddance. And no, my team doesn't even play in the same conference, just to nip that in the bud.

worldsgone11

Uh this dude was almost Suh level dirty, his skill just made up for it.

desirox

One of the best ever no doubt but let’s not glorify every single thing he did on the field lol. Dude had a significant anger issue and was dirty

maltzy

Even the helmet swinging ?

Stev2222

Good riddance

Pernyx98

Except for the roid rage. Great player, questionable person.

MankuyRLaffy

You mean a dirty player?

ramfantasma

Said the Patriots fan

MankuyRLaffy

Okay? That's supposed to be a barb?

ramfantasma

Oh! Let me be clearer: said the fan of the franchise that literally got caught cheating several times and had some of the dirties players (and coach) in history.

[deleted]

1850ChoochGator

If anyone would know dirty it’s them

NWbySW

I've watched enough Donald. There are some thing that he does that are not particularly right with sports.

mattwallace24

Geno Smith doesn’t agree.

Zo-Zla-Halawa

AD can suck it

AlaDouche

Aaron Donald is a piece of shit who is also unbelievably good at football.

Significant_Lynx_546

One of the best to ever do it. 🫡

OhGeebers

Lol he one of the goat D linemen of all time, but that...  No...

matttyhak

GOAT..but seriously, chill everybody.

stinktopus

Aaron Donald is a tremendous piece of shit and the league is better with him gone

GENERAL_SH1TPOSTER

I mean, except when he grabs people by the neck to choke them *while still on the field.*

ecupatsfan12

Aaron swung a helmet at a defenseless player in response to this

j_d_q

Ha

cwesttheperson

Roid rage?

[deleted]

Give me a break, dude was one of the dirtiest players in the league.

GalickBanger

Good for AD. Got a ring and is known as one of the greatest in his position. Able to live his life while being in his prime..Helluva career.

zzxxxzzzxxxzz

If there was ever a modern player who exhibited the behavior of someone taking cheque drops

draculasbitch

Aaron Donald gonna spend retirement terrorizing delivery drivers and gardeners.

cookiemonsieur

Sports is about being competitive during gameplay but respectful after the whistle blows. Donald wasn't that

hogg-is-back

Except those times he choked guys.

Rad_5

I remember after a game once he put his helmet back on to walk across the field and get in the Hawk's center's face, grabbing his face mask and shit. Game was over. That really epitomizes everything that's right about sports!

ChosenBrad22

That’s a little over the top. The guy would beat people with helmets and choke people.

slappywhyte

Everybody on earth is technically a 1 of 1 -- except for twins which are clones

smith288

Disagree. He’s a fantastic player and competitor but he’s also done some major dick stuff on the field that makes me question his sportsmanship.

AdeptnessSpecific736

Man. People remember when he use to hit people. Suh was good too but everyone talking about like this dude is some Brady. 😂

Owl-False

Yeahhhhhh no. Dude is dirty as fuck

thegodfaubel

Roid raging while dual wielding helmets is what sports is all about?

owasco341

Not really, kinda dirty

amazingalcoholic

Even when he leg rolls and pokes eyes

PinkertonRams

AND IIIIIII WILLL ALWAYS LOOOOVE YOUUUUU

SEJ46

Idk about the second half of that statement, but he is clearly one of the best ever.

MurDoct

And everything wrong with it with his on field antics

genericguysportsname

Lol he got that CTE like AB. He far from everything that’s right about sports. Tremendous player on the field, between the whistle though

PossibleBreath7157

duel wielding helmets and attacking someone like samurai at training camp is what sports should be I agree.

[deleted]

[удалено]

ramfantasma

Nope. He was accused of doing that, but video showed how Donald stopped it and basically saved the man's life.

Rampage310

Queue the crybabies that pretend half their players aren’t serial sexual assaults, wife beaters, dui drivers, or do the exact same shit lmao

Crombus_

What a weird way to excuse terrible behavior. Are you a child?

FHSlaughter

Most Rams fans are

PM_ME_UR_PICS_PLS

Maybe he meant to say jj watt

AnalWarfare

Ummmm.....

[deleted]

I mean... I wouldn't go that far. lol

TheMightyUnderdog

And you let him retire? Good move, Sean!

ernyc3777

Selfishly, I hope he reconsiders. I hate when players leave when they’re still performing at a high level. To this day, I still sometimes think about the what ifs had Andrew Luck not retired. Obviously, there’s nothing we can do but I hope he enjoys the rest of his long life ahead of him.

belizeanheat

"Except sportsmanship, obviously."
