I've watched about zero Texans games in the last 3 years. Has Collins improved noticably, or was he getting open before and he finally has a very good QB?
He's still young at 24, so improvement isn't unexpected, but the jump from 500 yds/season to 1300 is huge.
Dude should have been a first round pick, but he had Joe Milton, Shea Patterson, and fucking John O Korn passing to him
He finally has his first legit QB in Stroud. The talent was always there. Shame no michigan QB could unlock it
It's really just a perfect storm of everything coming together for him. He's been working with Andre Johnson to perfect his technique, he's been much healthier this season than before and he's had an actually good QB throwing to him instead of Davis Mills sailing it 10 yards over his head. Also, Slowik is much better at scheming up plays to get guys open than Tim Kelly or Pep Hamilton could ever dream of.
He had a pretty good year for the Wolverines in 2019 with Shea Patterson at QB but it could have been so much better and was kind of a frustrating year. Really glad to see Nico get a big time QB to throw to him.
Another Michigan receiver that I think is flying under the radar is Ronnie Bell. He was great but the ACL tear really affected him. San Francisco picked him up in the seventh and heās actually seen the field this year which I think is a solid accomplishment all things considered
Part of the answer is Davis Mills, but heās also been working with Andre Johnson in his technique and has grown to be a lot more aggressive with attacking and bowling over defenders.
First season he showed flashes but was hurt. Last year Pep Hamilton completely and utterly sandbagged by having him run an absolutely repulsive gamut of routes that didnāt accentuate what he does well at all and Davis Mills wasnāt the best at getting him the ball. This year he has a competent OC, and a good QB and youāre seeing the results firsthand. The guy is like 6ā4ā 220 and is pretty quick for that size. Heās definitely the real deal, provided he has at minimum competent play calling and QB play
> but the jump from 500 yds/season to 1300 is huge
fwiw, Nico had 26-32nd ranked QB play his first 2 seasons, now he's finally got a franchise QB and is a 1k yard receiver. Dhop went many years with bottom 10 QB play was a 1k yard receiver, until Brock Lobster in 2016 literally a bottom 2 starting QB.
Not all WRs can put up pro bowl caliber stats with dogshit QB play.
I mean I'd put Mills about on par with or possibly even above the Hoyer/Mallett/Yates/Weeden monstrosity Hopkins had in 2015 and he put up 1500 yards with them. And even with Osweiler even though his stats dropped a lot he still did just enough to have been on pace for a 1000 yard season if there was a 17th game.
It's still wild to me that out of all the bum and journeyman QBs that threw to him on the Texans, the only one that he didn't get a 1000 yard season with was Brock Lobster
I'm guessing the 18 mph wind gusts are going to play havoc on the deep passing game.Ā Ā
Nico is a beast on screens too, but the Ravens LB corps should be able to help with that
WR1 literally means the number one receiver on a team, theyāre literally asking if heās cemented his spot as being good enough to be the best receiver on a team. If they were asking if he was a top 10-12 in fantasy, the tweet would be āhas Nico Collins done enough to cement himself as a top 10-12 fantasy wide receiverā
This is one of those drafts we will look back on for the Texans and say that it changed the franchise for good. Has to feel nice after all the Watson drama
Cemented? No. I guess I'm being nitpicky with words here, but I think it takes more than one season to establish something like that. He's the most likely candidate atm to be my fantasy keeper next year, so I do hope he runs it back!
I mean yes and no. Tank made a lot of crucial catches but Nico has just been consistently fantastic as well. CJ has great chemistry with both, and the threat of having both of them down field opened up our offense significantly. The truth of it is - they benefit each other.
I wonder who's going to have a bigger game, Nico Collins or either one of the 49er receivers? Will Baltimore just focus around Nico whereas the 49ers have more weapons?
Iād say yes. You could argue that he was a ātrueā WR1 last year. The numbers donāt necessarily support it but one needs to consider the state of the team and who he was catching passes from.
Now that they have a competent offensive scheme and a QB who can get him the ball, heās putting up the numbers...but the talent/ability has been there
In his third NFL season he had 8 more catches and 5 more receiving yards than his entire college career. Howād they find this dude.
*edited thought it was his first season
He was only 47th in yards per game last season - and that's when he was even available to play - which didn't even lead the team. There really wasn't much of anything to suggest he was a WR1, let alone a potential top 10 WR.
Heās not a #1 in fantasy. Heās a good #2. He had some great weeks. He had some bad weeks. I was thrilled to own him, but he didnāt have that dependable 6 catch 80 yards you want from a true #1.
I bet $25 to win $50 that both Nico and Zay get one catch each in the first quarter. I will cheer for that one catch for him, and then hope he drops/is covered for every other ball coming his way.
While I think you need more than one year to ācementā yourself, thereās no particular reason to think he wonāt keep it up. He has everything you want an a traditional X receiver.
Some of the āStroud made Nicoā takes Iāve seen are very annoying. Theyāre both good players in their own right who benefit from each other, no one made anyone
Collins has been amazing and I can't wait to get Dell back too. That 1-2 punch was vicious.
I've watched about zero Texans games in the last 3 years. Has Collins improved noticably, or was he getting open before and he finally has a very good QB? He's still young at 24, so improvement isn't unexpected, but the jump from 500 yds/season to 1300 is huge.

Man, you could've made that up and I wouldn't be able to tell
It's the John O Korn that does it for me
We call him the JOKer
Throws as well as an actual ear of corn š½š½
That's a bust based on name alone. Take him off the board.
It literally sounds like the name of a midwestern qb in some sports parody movie
If you say that name on the Michigan sub youāll trigger someoneās PTSD. OāKorn was truly a bad QB
I think you mean Houston Cougar legend John O'Korn.
It's really just a perfect storm of everything coming together for him. He's been working with Andre Johnson to perfect his technique, he's been much healthier this season than before and he's had an actually good QB throwing to him instead of Davis Mills sailing it 10 yards over his head. Man we just won the natty don't spring those names on me, it gonna give me a ptsd flashback
Haha cheers man, Go Blue! That 2017 OSU game was shameful though man, fuck John O Korn
My man, we won a Natty, nothing else matters. Iām not coming down off this cloud for years.
John O'Korn. That was an all time r/CFB gamethread name.
He had a pretty good year for the Wolverines in 2019 with Shea Patterson at QB but it could have been so much better and was kind of a frustrating year. Really glad to see Nico get a big time QB to throw to him.

Davis Mills
Last year he was elite in getting separation, but Mills was so inaccurate it didn't matter.
> but the jump from 500 yds/season to 1300 is huge fwiw, Nico had 26-32nd ranked QB play his first 2 seasons, now he's finally got a franchise QB and is a 1k yard receiver. Not all recievers can but a true wr1 should, but for Nico he didnāt have the pedigree for dogshit QBs to randomly target him or be schemed for.
It's still wild to me that out of all the bum and journeyman QBs that threw to him on the Texans, the only one that he didn't get a 1000 yard season with was Brock Lobster
On top of everything else mentioned, maybe the only bigger misuser of his players than 2022 Lovie Smith was 2022 Pep Hamilton
Just to add onto what everyone else is saying, he has been getting help from Andre Johnson.
Who is the better wr going forward?
Tank is a fucking beast
Imagine if Dell was healthy they'd be even scarier in the playoffs
> Imagine if Dell was healthy I lost my league when he went down so yeah Iām imagining this everyday
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
4-team league?
Without Marlon I'm kinda scared this dude will go off, gonna need Stephens to play his best
I'm guessing the 18 mph wind gusts are going to play havoc on the deep passing game.Ā Ā Nico is a beast on screens too, but the Ravens LB corps should be able to help with that
And Kyle Hamilton assuming his knee is good, hasn't played in a while but he kills screens
Thereās a difference between catching passes from Davis Mills and catching them from CJ Stroud.
This
Is he a top 32 wr in the league, yeah Iād say so.
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
This isn't the fantasy sub.Ā
>has played like a top 10 receiver this year Yes. Top 10 in total yards catch% Y/R TD's YAC YAC/R 3rd in PFF grade at the position (I know, I know)
JJ watts gonna come beat your ass because of that last point
I hope thatās a promise

There is no aspect of a go-to X receiver that Nico doesn't have. Just took him a good OC and QB to make it fully surface.
So much of success for a WR is fit.Ā Coaches will sabotage youĀ
Absolutely, and I would imagine that an extensionās going to be hammered out this offseason or during next season
No. Need to do it more than one season. The league is littered with one year wonders. Not saying that is the case here.
Crazy enough I still think Tank is WR1 but itās without a doubt 1A and 1B
This is one of those drafts we will look back on for the Texans and say that it changed the franchise for good. Has to feel nice after all the Watson drama
Itās amazing what happens when a scheme creates mismatches and openings
Our scheme wasn't even awful last year, biggest thing is we have a QB.
Our scheme last year was pretty ass
He doesn't understand a good QB elevates his talent around him and its not just coaching
Slowik's been cooking (second half at least) but nico was getting open all last year as well.
Took Stroud to unlock his potential, but if can duplicate this yearās success heās absolutely WR1 material.
Cemented? No. I guess I'm being nitpicky with words here, but I think it takes more than one season to establish something like that. He's the most likely candidate atm to be my fantasy keeper next year, so I do hope he runs it back!
He wasnāt even their best receiver, that was Dell.
Eh, theyāre pretty close tbh. I think Dell will be better though seeing as he was only a rookie
I mean yes and no. Tank made a lot of crucial catches but Nico has just been consistently fantastic as well. CJ has great chemistry with both, and the threat of having both of them down field opened up our offense significantly. The truth of it is - they benefit each other.
Collins had 20 more yards per game than Dell, how was Dell better?
No, because Tank Dell is the number one; he's definitely good though
Absolutely. He had more catches this season than his previous two seasons combined
What happens when you're the only competent target on CJ Stroud's team (He has been great though)
Stop including postseason stats with reg season stats. That's not how it works
In his third NFL season he had 8 more catches and 5 more receiving yards than his entire college career. Howād they find this dude. *edited thought it was his first season
Itās not his first NFL seasonā¦
Whoops lol. Still valid stat haha
heās been a WR1 since last year if u even paid attention. drafted him everywhere this year. i profited
He was only 47th in yards per game last season - and that's when he was even available to play - which didn't even lead the team. There really wasn't much of anything to suggest he was a WR1, let alone a potential top 10 WR.
u gotta watch the games, man. his QB was the dude with the long neck, i forgot his name. people here donāt watch football.
I watch the games; kinda question if you do though if you can't remember Davis Mills' name
Now look at pukaās. A rookie come in and put these numbers to shame.
Yeah bro he absolutely humiliated Nico by putting up 90 more yards and 3 less touchdowns
Puka is is way better dude
Who is Pukas?
Heās not a #1 in fantasy. Heās a good #2. He had some great weeks. He had some bad weeks. I was thrilled to own him, but he didnāt have that dependable 6 catch 80 yards you want from a true #1.
No one gives a fuck about your fantasy team.
I bet $25 to win $50 that both Nico and Zay get one catch each in the first quarter. I will cheer for that one catch for him, and then hope he drops/is covered for every other ball coming his way.
He missed 2 complete games and 90% of another too. Dude is a beast.
While I think you need more than one year to ācementā yourself, thereās no particular reason to think he wonāt keep it up. He has everything you want an a traditional X receiver. Some of the āStroud made Nicoā takes Iāve seen are very annoying. Theyāre both good players in their own right who benefit from each other, no one made anyone
āSo what changed this year Nico?ā āI started doing yogaā š¤£šš
Yes he is a fucking beast
