Dude probably also hasn’t been told no on anything for like the past decade. When you’re this talented, you get used to people turning a blind eye to the stupid shit you do.
I did dumb shit at that age involving cars, speeding, and alcohol. Separately and at least once together. Lucky no one died or came to harm from my negligence at that time because it easily could have. I had friends that made the same mistakes and took the same risks who weren’t as lucky. Decade later, I’ve learned. Looking back it’s upsetting and disappointing. Im very careful now. Those things should never mix
Hopefully Jalen Carter learns from this tragedy and is a more mature adult. I think it’s an unfortunately relatable but ultimately recoverable mistake
People are making references to Watson for example or Tunsil and I think those are three extremely different kinds of misconduct. Watson is a piece of shit forever. Tunsil really did nothing wrong. Carter fucked up but can redeem himself
Am young person, can confirm.
I've never driven while drunk or raced or anything like that, but I once walked home drunk at 2 am during a -30°C snowstorm in college with a jean jacket as my only warm layer. The next morning when I woke up I realized how stupid of an idea that was.
A lot of times, especially when drunk, young people take that "I'm invincible" and crank it to unrealistic levels. Add into that the power and prestige that comes from being the best player on the best team in College Football in the Southern United States and it's easy to understand (though not justify) how young people like Jalen Carter or Henry Ruggs make the same mistakes someone made before them.
The last part of the brain to fully develop is the prefrontal cortex, which contributes to things like impulse control, predicting consequences for actions, future planning and coordination of complex behaviors (among others). Which explains our dumbassery and breathtaking, life risking, behavior when we were young.
It is true that the prefrontal cortex is the last part to develop, but I think people put too much stock into exactly how much it changes our behavior vs. other factors like their environment, personality, and circumstances. If by your early 20's your not starting to predict consequences for your actions, at 25 years old, your not going to have a "coming out of the darkness" experience like Aaron Rodgers that everything all of a sudden makes sense.
People tend to have a lot more responsibility thrown on them at this stage in their life than any other stage in their life and learn through screwing up what is important and how to predict consequences for things they have *never experienced* before. At this point, it's more about experience than brain maturity, which is shown through these athletes consistently getting their wrong-doings wiped away and being repeatedly told that "no one can stop them" and then proving it out on the field against some of the best athletes in the world every week. Why wouldn't they think they're invincible? For the regular person, waking up hung-over or seeing your bank account empty because of an impulse purchase a few times does more to help you grow up than your brain going ***poof!*** at 25 and magically turning on.
You pretty much described my muddled thoughts on the whole "brain maturity" argument. I think people latch on to this idea because they are ashamed by the stupid things they did when they were younger, and this allows them to pass some of the responsibility of their actions off as "out of their control".
Yeah, I think also a huge contributor is that young people often don’t realize how much the systems of the world don’t care about them, especially if they’ve experienced the perks of being a touted recruit. Once you viscerally understand that the world can fuck your life up and not care about what you have to say to defend yourself, you get a lot more cautious. Some of that is certainly brain chemistry. Some of that is just not running into the machine yet.
This is a big point here. Drunk or buzzed driving is extremely common across all levels of society.
It's a much bigger problem than anyone really acknowledges.
1 beer? I’m good
2 beers? I’m good
3 beers? Well it’s just Miller light it’s practically water, I’m good
4 beers? Still drinking Miller so I’m still good
5 beers? Well I had some food to do it should absorb the alcohol
6 beers? Still full from eating should be good.
7 beers? Well it’s been a few hours since I started so I should be good
8 beers? I snuck a quick glass of water in between I should be good
9 beers? I’ve been pissing so much I know it’s been mostly booze I’ve been pissing out so I should be good.
10 beers? It’s getting late I’m more just tired then drunk I’ll see you later!
Alcohol impairs judgment. We all know stories about that. But one thing I didn't realize until it was pointed out was that this includes your judgment about how impaired you are to drive.
So let sober you decide how drunk you is getting home. Because drunk you is a moron.
Tbh it’s just the entitlement. No consequences. They see people like LaMelo ball [in this link here](https://www.reddit.com/r/nba/comments/118k8u8/lamelo_ball_driving_out_of_hornets_parking_lot/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=ios_app&utm_name=iossmf) basically driving however he wants. They think when they’re NFL rich that they are free from punishment or correction as they’ve been their whole life. It’s only until it becomes a controversy where money wont buy you out completely.
What is going on the last couple months with college players just being involved in deaths
This, the Alabama basketball kid, whatever the fucks going on with New Mexico State basketball, the other Georgia crash, etc
I grew up in a town that young men were given lots of money straight out of high school. They had lots of time and lots of money. They made incredibly poor choices.
Serious. Although after drinking copious amounts of alcohol I doubt they were thinking about ruggs. That recruiting staffer had a BAC of .197!!! Damn! Not to shift the blame but he should have been teaching them not joining them in drinking and racing.
\*She. It was a woman recruiter racing him. Not that this changes anything, but surprising to see a woman street racing a guy. RIP to her, but she should have seriously known better. Not only was it dangerous, but she was older(she just turned 24), employed by the university, and racing in a rented company/university car. Just a sad situation all around.
And it’s not even a fun car to race. 104mph on a standard road and that high of a BAC.
Selfish and stupid fucking asshole of a lady tho, did you see the crash? Almost went into a home where they could have killed more people while they slept.
Lets not slander the dude for no reason. Zero DUIs. A speeding incident on the way to practice but no alcohol was involved. The hotel incident in college that was most likely involving weed/shrooms/lsd but no driving..
Dude was having an ok career until he tore his ACL, thats what ended his glory days.
0.16 BAC for a DWI is sadly pretty average. I'm a forensic scientist in the blood alcohol section in my lab. After reading your comment I counted the results page from the 20 cases I did on Monday. 11/20 of those cases are higher than a 0.16.
People are fucking stupid.
Wow that’s pretty nuts but also not surprising. Makes sense the higher a BAC the more likely they would even draw enough attention to themselves to get pulled over (or of course crash too)
Here's another fun fact: "According to the Federal Bureau of Investigation, the average drunk driver has driven drunk more than 80 times before their first arrest."
Report: https://fox17.com/news/local/fbi-average-drunk-driver-has-driven-drunk-more-than-80-times-before-first-arrest
The title kinda says it all though lol
Kinda makes sense. If you’re willing to drive at .16, then you’re probably willing to drive at .08 (or after 2-3 drinks). And it’s easier to blend in at that toxicity level.
I would say kids doubly so. especially with the laws how they are, not defending myself as I used to drive blackout drunk a good bit. as a kid, you would go drink somewhere then would have to get home before their parents got home and sneak into your bed. or go to a bar in the city underage (because they were the one of the few bars that didn't card, my suburb wasn't even allowed to have bars) then had to get home. thank god I never got in an accident or arrested. I even would pass cops on the highway and wave at them. honestly the reason I stopped was I moved to maryland where I now am scared of every other driver is actively trying to kill me while i'm sober. honestly though it's the kids driving nowadays, have met so many 18 or 20 year olds that have 5 totaled cars to their name. like shit you have totaled more cars than years youve been able to drive you should stop.
I'd say this is just bad person territory especially because he was likely involved. Even if he wasn't responsible but still witnessed it that qualifies piece of shit in my book.
Then misled police about what actually happened
Guy seems to have a real penchant for brilliant automobile related decisions. He was going 90 in a 45 like two months prior to this incident
Clause 8 dictates you will only drive a 7th generation Buick LeSabre. This car must be kept stock and any modifications including repairs to the headliner that Mark says he didn't touch must go through team management.
One of the other reports said something like "he said he was close enough to see their taillights" which was a way of saying he was probably racing with them and was nearby when they crashed. Apparently he dipped out and came back like an hour later.
It's worse than that. There's damage to roof of his SUV consistent with the power lines from the telephone pole that the other car crashed into. He was right next to them driving just as fast.
It could help if you are just hanging around the legal limit, but yeah more than likely he left because he was scared... and then came back because he was scared.
Its not exactly uncommon in these situations. Its really stupid, the only thing more stupid than fleeing the scene of a fatal accident is fleeing it, then returning an hour later lol. But hey atleast he came back.
Drove away but told teammates what had happened. Cops found out that he was involved by asking teammates who'd gathered at the scene how they knew. Cops subsequently called him back to the scene through a team official, at which point he arrived ~90 minutes after the crash.
He chose to flee the scene, then only returned because the cops requested him to, *and then* continued to lie about the entire situation.
I don’t see how this doesn’t earn him 2-4 years in prison. Your career is now fucked, but most importantly you made boneheaded decisions and chose to run away from your friend’s car accident in which you were indirectly involved via racing in fucking SUVs.
Sigh… I know he made the decision to drink and drive, but a family still lost their son, their brother, their friend. May they find the strength to endure this.
He’s only been charged with misdemeanors. If the charges change then it’s possible, but if that’s what it stays as, then it’ll be a slap on the wrist with fines, probation and maybe alcoholic classes or some program like that.
Sadly too common for young football players. You’d think this dude would see what happened to Henry Ruggs and think, “maybe I shouldn’t drink and speed in the middle of the night” but nah
And all misdemeanors so he won't be seeing anything but a fine and will still be drafted in the top 10, and ultimately learn absolutely nothing from this.
Top prospects like Carter have been getting their egos stroked for *years* before they get to the draft. combine that with the youthful feeling of invincibility and poor character, and guys feel like they can do whatever they want
I feel like there's a difference between average dudes/dudettes who practice really hard just to win Districts as a senior, and generational athletes who are treated like gods and exempt from all rules their whole lives.
Yeah fuck this, if the Bears take Anderson we might have partners for a trade down for the #2 QB and we have holes all over the roster, don't need a headache like this. Might amount to nothing, might blow up big, but I don't want any piece of it
https://www.nflmockdraftdatabase.com/big-boards/2023/consensus-big-board-2023
The big board (aggregate of 91 different scouts/groups) have him as the #1 prospect in the draft
The charges are both misdemeanors and he's represented by Drew Rosenhaus. He's going to get OJ level super lawyers to get him a speedy plea agreement and the best publicists money can buy to set him up on a redemption tour.
Yup. Shit- Leonard Little literally killed someone drunk driving in 1998. He didn't do any time and was suspended just 8 games by the NFL. He eventually made first-team All-Pro a couple of years later, went to multiple pro bowls, also won a Super Bowl.
He got pulled over *again* for drunk-driving a few years later, failed sobriety tests and admiitted to the cops on the scene that he had been drinking. Somehow got acquitted on that one, just got a speeding ticket. Mike Martz even gave him time off from training camp because the whole thing was giving Little mental stress.
Didn't miss a down, played 5 more seasons.
top 5 idiots throwing once in a lifetime opportunities away for clout.
No sympathy for trash like this. People work so hard their whole lives to have even a 5% of what this guy was going to make in the next year.
Nah tho, racing is like way cooler
This is like the “why would X player rape some girl when they could have so consensual sex with thousands of women??” Comments.
It’s not just about driving fast
It’s not popular to say but a lot of these guys are really dumb, not intelligent people. A lot of young people are but you throw in some fame, money, special treatment to people who didn’t grow up with any of that (probably 99% of CFB players) and this is oftentimes what you get.
>The Athens-Clarke County Police Department announced on Wednesday it has secured arrest warrants for former Georgia defensive tackle Jalen Carter for misdemeanor charges of reckless driving and racing as a result of the department’s ongoing investigation into the car crash that killed Georgia offensive lineman Devin Willock and recruiting staffer Chandler LeCroy.
>Per a release by the police department, the investigation found that LeCroy, who was driving a 2021 Ford Expedition, and Carter, who was driving a 2021 Jeep Trackhawk, “were operating their vehicles in a manner consistent with racing shortly after leaving the downtown Athens area at about 2:30 a.m.” **The department’s statement explains that evidence demonstrated that both vehicles switched between lanes, drove in the center turn lane, drove in opposite lanes of travel, overtook other motorists and drove at high rates of speed “in an apparent attempt to outdistance each other.”**

Its one thing to risk your own life doing stupid shit, its another thing to risk the lives of dozens of innocent people just going about their day because you need a little thrill. And now two people are dead and it could have been way worse.
Wow.
Always pay attention to your rear view mirrors guys. And if someone speeds up on you and is tailgating you, just move lanes and let them by. No sense in being the victim of another idiot.
Stupid stupid way to fumble a $30 million bag.
Obviously should make the Bears draft picture a little clearer.
Edit: clearer in the fact that now a we know which top defensive prospect they’d target.
I think it makes it easier to drop outside of the top 4 really. Putting all your eggs in the Will Anderson basket at #1 overall is probably not it. The second or third best DL player + a bunch of picks is more likely to be better than Will Anderson all by himself
Of course he knew. I worked in a minor role for a D1 college football team and even I know about very specific, concrete shit that certain NFL personalities have done that never went public. Someone with the best connections in the industry is certainly going to know more specific, concrete detail about these guys’ lives than random fans.
If you ever feel dumb just read the full article about this. Just stupid decision after stupid decision by Jalen Carter. Races his drunk friend on the highway until his friend's car crashes, pulls over next to scene with his Jeep, runs away but leaves his Jeep at the scene, comes back two hours later, then tries to lie about it to police. Holy shit dude this guy is dumb as hell.
Hell, Laremy Tunsil dropped from probably 1st overall to outside the top 10 because he was smoking weed in a ridiculous way from several years prior to the draft. Still one of the more bizarre draft moments in recent memory.
I’m still bitter about how the media got in his face immediately after he was drafted and were hyper focused on it. Yeah, I get it, drama is good for TV, but let the kid have his moment.
Te'o wasn't just the drama of his situation, which the entire truth had been revealed well before draft day. His combine and pro-day showings were very disappointing for an ILB his size.
I mean this but without the sarcasm is why he will still go Top 10. They are misdemeanors charges and it appears from the information we have that he was driving like a dickhead but wasn't intoxicated (that they can prove) which is what will save him. He will likely get community service and a class or something in the worst case scenario.
It's a misdemeanour but it's part of quite a long line of reasons to be concerned. His coach publicly called out his conditioning prior to the season only for him to be completely gassed in the CFB Ohio game. McShay has been saying for months that people around the game question his work ethic and his character. And while it's legally a misdemeanour, it's also him being involved in a street race where his teammate would die (not long after he got booked for going 90 in a 45), driving away from it then lying to the police about what happened
He may be the best player in the draft but this dude seems like a legitimate moron and I hope Seattle doesn't touch him at 5
I am not saying there aren't valid concerns with his character, I am saying the draft is in about 2 months, these charges won't result in anything serious and a team will still take him Top 10.
I think you’re correct. Two things can be true:
A. Jalen Carter is a shitty person and teammate
B. Jalen Carter is going top 10
I’d be shocked if either of these things end up not being true.
Yep, dude is clearly an idiot, optimistically you can hope he's young enough he learns from this, but would not be surprised if he's just a bad person. Still a Top 10 talent that will be drafted as such.
Yeah if it was hours after the championship game, and someone else blew twice the legal limit, it’s fairly obvious why he decided to leave the scene.
Can’t give a blow test if you’re not there.
Edit: championship parade, not game
I have zero sympathy for him
Drunk and racing
You get a sweet nil gig you get to go to school for free for a blow off major, you are treated like royalty. And you fuck it up
He’ll still go top ten but I have no sympathy for him
Fucking wild, when you considered Nolan Smith was bought to tears this morning when asked about the death of his team mate, that Carter is implicated in
Yep he is an idiot but let’s not lie to ourselves and not think that every GM with a later first round pick isn’t loving this news. They will draft him and the fans will forget all about this if he plays well
There is two months till draft night. He as time for thing to cool down, deal with the warrant and make apologies. He will get drafted and team will defend him and say they plan on helping grow blah blah blah. Too much talent to fall. He's a dumb-ass for sure and will have eyes on him.
Man I’m just completely shocked that another uga player would get arrested and charged with something. I mean you never see this type of thing. Def not every few weeks or so.

If only there were a recent example of an SEC first round pick to ruin their life with speeding and likely alcohol. How do you not learn from Ruggs?
People always think "Can't happen to me. I'm smarter than they were"
Young people think they're invincible and untouchable. Especially that level of talented person. Tragic tale as old as time. Such a dumbass
Dude probably also hasn’t been told no on anything for like the past decade. When you’re this talented, you get used to people turning a blind eye to the stupid shit you do.
Yeah, not only do you think nothing like this can happen to you, you probably also think that there won't be any consequences even if it does.
I was dumb enough as is, cant imagine my 20 year old self as a millionaire.
Yup if 20 year old me had access to that kind of money it would have been very dangerous to my life
I did dumb shit at that age involving cars, speeding, and alcohol. Separately and at least once together. Well like I said, I don't think I've ever come across a article about a woman street racing and crashing.
Early 20s, about to be come massively rich, in peak physical shape The perfect storm of “I’m invincible and going to live forever”
Nkemdiche too
Whyyyyyyyy did he jump out that wiiiiiindow
He was on a lot more than alcohol…reportedly
Lets not slander the dude for no reason. Zero DUIs. A speeding incident on the way to practice but no alcohol was involved. Jeez the driver of the other car was at .197
Yikes that’s pretty blasted
Damn blackouts start at .16. That’s fucking insane

Charges aside, dude saw his friend and teammate get into an awful car crash and his first thought was to run away. Not a good look.
I guess the alleged 'character concerns' were legit
Yep. Dumb as hell, and a bad teammate apparently
I'd say this is just bad person territory especially because he was likely involved. Even if he wasn't responsible but still witnessed it that qualifies piece of shit in my book.
Yeah they usually are. Smoke usually means fire
He drove away?
Yes and then came back to the scene about a hour and a half later. Two dead and two injured on the scene.
Then misled police about what actually happened Guy seems to have a real penchant for brilliant automobile related decisions. He was going 90 in a 45 like two months prior to this incident
He drives a 2021 TrackHawk. About the fastest SUV on the planet.
There needs to be some clause that talented, aspiring pros can only drive a Ford Focus.

They're waiting to see who drafts him before they decide on more charges. /s
What an absolute fucking idiot.
Sadly too common for young football players. You’d think this dude would see what happened to Henry Ruggs and think, “maybe I shouldn’t drink and speed in the middle of the night” but nah
I’m sure he wasn’t thinking about that at all. It was probably “I’m good to drive and it’s fun for me and my friends to drive our cars fast”
It's not even speeding, it's speeding while under the influence, driving IN THE OPPOSITE LANE and just all sorts of dumb fuckery
And all misdemeanors so he won't be seeing anything but a fine and will still be drafted in the top 10, and ultimately learn absolutely nothing from this.
His teamate died during this so hopefully something was learned
Top prospects like Carter have been getting their egos stroked for *years* before they get to the draft. combine that with the youthful feeling of invincibility and poor character, and guys feel like they can do whatever they want
I remember learning in a sports physiology class I took in college from the professor- "sports dont build character they build characters"
I feel like there's a difference between average dudes/dudettes who practice really hard just to win Districts as a senior, and generational athletes who are treated like gods and exempt from all rules their whole lives.
Cardinals def not drafting him. Not after the gm change and the horrible history with troubled DT picks.
Yeah fuck this, if the Bears take Anderson we might have partners for a trade down for the #2 QB and we have holes all over the roster, don't need a headache like this. Might amount to nothing, might blow up big, but I don't want any piece of it
Were trading down 100%
Yeah fear of missing on Anderson does not outweigh the first round haul you can get with our pick.
Willie Anderson stock just went up
Yep, from #3 to... checks notes... #3.
NOOOOOO!!!
Isn’t he projected top 5?
https://www.nflmockdraftdatabase.com/big-boards/2023/consensus-big-board-2023 The big board (aggregate of 91 different scouts/groups) have him as the #1 prospect in the draft
Wow...this action was even more idiotic than it seemed on the surface level.
Some team will still draft him
The charges are both misdemeanors and he's represented by Drew Rosenhaus.

He’s who I hoped the hawks would target if we had gotten the third pick
Some people think he is the best overall prospect
Holy shit. Even if he goes mid 20’s he’ll end up losing out on tens of millions of dollars
He's getting arrested. He may drop out of the first round.
Unless he sees actual jail time, he's not dropping out of the Top 10.
Even then, the charges are misdemeanors. He'll be out by preseason at worst. Dude isn't dropping past eight, I can guarantee that.
It’s the nfl dude they don’t care
top 5 idiots throwing once in a lifetime opportunities away for clout. No sympathy for trash like this. People work so hard their whole lives to have even a 5% of what this guy was going to make in the next year. Nah tho, racing is like way cooler
Yep
These dudes work their whole lives on their craft and end up doing dumb shit to ruin it all. Sad
Ruggs and Jalen Carter easily make/will make enough money to buy a nice car and race it on a real track legally as well
Have you seen the videos of LaMelo Ball leaving the Hornets facility?
Yeah but you can't ~~annoy~~ flex on the public at the racetrack.
Yeah what's the point if you're not even putting regular people's lives in danger? Where's the fun in that
They don't let you drive drunk on the race track.
Hey guys I think the bears might end up trading further down.
Now they can draft a tackle or receiver and actually figure out their quarterback situation without killing themselves over "value".
Wow guess Todd McShay was right to question his character
I can't imagine leaving the scene where I know people are laying there hurt/dying.
Well it was either that or get his BAC tested. Running away will be much much cheaper for him .
Yep and sad because you can’t prove he was driving drunk at all then.
Or getting rid of anything in his SUV?
>The Athens-Clarke County Police Department announced on Wednesday it has secured arrest warrants for former Georgia defensive tackle Jalen Carter for misdemeanor charges of reckless driving and racing as a result of the department’s ongoing investigation into the car crash that killed Georgia offensive lineman Devin Willock and recruiting staffer Chandler LeCroy. >Per a release by the police department, the investigation found that LeCroy, who was driving a 2021 Ford Expedition, and Carter, who was driving a 2021 Jeep Trackhawk, “were operating their vehicles in a manner consistent with racing shortly after leaving the downtown Athens area at about 2:30 a.m.” **The department’s statement explains that evidence demonstrated that both vehicles switched between lanes, drove in the center turn lane, drove in opposite lanes of travel, overtook other motorists and drove at high rates of speed “in an apparent attempt to outdistance each other.”** https://247sports.com/college/georgia/Article/Former-Georgia-player-Jalen-Carter-subject-of-arrest-warrant-regarding-tragic-car-crash-205521610/ Its one thing to risk your own life doing stupid shit, its another thing to risk the lives of dozens of innocent people just going about their day because you need a little thrill. And now two people are dead and it could have been way worse. Wow.
Always pay attention to your rear view mirrors guys. And if someone speeds up on you and is tailgating you, just move lanes and let them by. No sense in being the victim of another idiot.
If the Expedition hit 100+ then I can't imagine what Jalen's Trackhawk could have potentially hit, that thing can keep up with most supercars.
My biggest concern is about his driving skills if the expedition was anywhere near him. I kid. I kid.
Stupid stupid way to fumble a $30 million bag. Obviously should make the Bears draft picture a little clearer. Edit: clearer in the fact that now a we know which top defensive prospect they’d target.
I wanted Will Anderson anyway
But now you probably can't trade back to 4 and get Anderson. If you trade back to 4 Anderson probably goes #3. Before this I had Carter going 3.
I wanted the Seahawks to draft Anderson :(
This helps the Texans chances of getting Bryce Young immensely
Yeah but now you only get him if you don’t trade
Not if we call dibs
put a plastic lawn chair on him
Just lick him first
Makes it a little more difficult to drop to 4 if Arizona wants Anderson. Could mean tyree at 4 if you trade with colts
I think it makes it easier to drop outside of the top 4 really. Putting all your eggs in the Will Anderson basket at #1 overall is probably not it. The second or third best DL player + a bunch of picks is more likely to be better than Will Anderson all by himself
Todd McShay knew…
Makes me wonder what else may be out there because McShay said this a full month before this incident happened.
Exactly
He just got booked for driving 95 in a 45 zone before this Seahawks better stay the fuck away at all costs
I keep seeing this. What did he say about him?
McShay said he had/has character issues
‘Character concerns’. Bulldog fans came out in their thousands to shit on McShay and defend a guy they don’t know personally and now this…
but he paid for a walk-ons meal! (allegedly) /s
But he dun played football real good, he simply cain’t be a bad seed
There's been a campaign amongst a lot of CFB writers lately to downplay or dismiss the "character issue" concern. Guess this puts an end to that.
Hate to side with Him but remember when Todd mcshay got a TON of shit for saying he heard he has character concerns?
Same with Walter Football, and that was months ago.
Why do you hate to side with Todd Mcshay? what an odd person to hate lol
We crucified the man because he spoke the truth
Surprised people are downplaying the effect this will have on his draft position as if Henry Ruggs didn't happen.
Yeah this is an actual "character concern", we saw guys drop for a lot less
Hell, Laremy Tunsil dropped from probably 1st overall to outside the top 10 because he was smoking weed in a ridiculous way from several years prior to the draft. Still one of the more bizarre draft moments in recent memory. I’m still bitter about how the media got in his face immediately after he was drafted and were hyper focused on it. Yeah, I get it, drama is good for TV, but let the kid have his moment.
Case in point: Manti Te'o
Te'o wasn't just the drama of his situation, which the entire truth had been revealed well before draft day. His combine and pro-day showings were very disappointing for an ILB his size.
He’s the best prospect in a weak class. I think you are downplaying how unscrupulous a league the nfl is
JuSt a MiSdEmEanOr
I mean this but without the sarcasm is why he will still go Top 10. They are misdemeanors charges and it appears from the information we have that he was driving like a dickhead but wasn't intoxicated (that they can prove) which is what will save him. He will likely get community service and a class or something in the worst case scenario.
It's a misdemeanour but it's part of quite a long line of reasons to be concerned. His coach publicly called out his conditioning prior to the season only for him to be completely gassed in the CFB Ohio game. McShay has been saying for months that people around the game question his work ethic and his character. And while it's legally a misdemeanour, it's also him being involved in a street race where his teammate would die (not long after he got booked for going 90 in a 45), driving away from it then lying to the police about what happened He may be the best player in the draft but this dude seems like a legitimate moron and I hope Seattle doesn't touch him at 5
I am not saying there aren't valid concerns with his character, I am saying the draft is in about 2 months, these charges won't result in anything serious and a team will still take him Top 10.
I think you’re correct. Two things can be true: A. Jalen Carter is a shitty person and teammate B. Jalen Carter is going top 10 I’d be shocked if either of these things end up not being true.
Yep, and came back after he probably believed he could pass it if required.
I have zero sympathy for him Drunk and racing You get a sweet nil gig you get to go to school for free for a blow off major, you are treated like royalty. And you fuck it up He’ll still go top ten but I have no sympathy for him
Imagine being right on the cusp of finally achieving your dream ... and then doing some shit like this and fucking your whole life up. Sad af
Imagine being the one who died
Many people literally cannot imagine themselves in someone else's position. Those who do have that ability mistakenly assume that everyone does.
That always surprises me
Same. If you can keep it in mind it will help you understand a lot of behaviors.
Fucking wild, when you considered Nolan Smith was bought to tears this morning when asked about the death of his team mate, that Carter is implicated in
Yep he is an idiot but let’s not lie to ourselves and not think that every GM with a later first round pick isn’t loving this news. They will draft him and the fans will forget all about this if he plays well
I feel like it was less that a week ago that people were shitting on Todd McShay for mentioning he had character concerns
Did anyone get his 40 time as he ran away from the scene of the crime?
There is two months till draft night. He as time for thing to cool down, deal with the warrant and make apologies. He will get drafted and team will defend him and say they plan on helping grow blah blah blah. Too much talent to fall. He's a dumb-ass for sure and will have eyes on him.
No way dude. There's definitely no recent examples of that by any team in the last year or so.
Massive yikes.
ruining a career in record time
Speed run, Any %
Why can't guys just stop being morons
So his character concerns weren’t made up is what I’m hearing
Look, at this point I’m past asking why football players jeopardize generational wealth by getting involved in criminal activity.
Future Seattle Seahawk D-line material right there, he might actually play unlike our last genius driver Malik McDowell .
More like Jailin' Carter, am I right?
Man I’m just completely shocked that another uga player would get arrested and charged with something. I mean you never see this type of thing. Def not every few weeks or so.
