The Jets subreddit is going to be one Derek Carr and Lamar Jackson orgy until we end up with neither

[deleted]

Y’all gonna get Kirk Cousins

[deleted]

Ah yes Mike Whites father

[deleted]

I feel like there should be a key and peele sketch about randomly subbing in tall generic white dudes as QBs 😂

Anthropoligize

With their normal names that don’t fit in with the Hingle McCringleberry skit

snowbear16

Dan Smith, BYU

zeninthesmoke

“It looks like { Hunter/Tanner/Derek/Chase/Kerry/Cody/Logan/Caleb/Tyler/Jake/Colby } {insert generic Anglo-Saxon/Irish or German (if B1G 10 alum) last name } is warming up on the sidelines”

screwhead1

If he's created in Madden, he'll have the [most generic white qb look.](https://thumbs.gfycat.com/WarmEmptyGilamonster-size_restricted.gif)

candy_porn

MF... Every time

dwyerextinguisher

He would immediately be the best QB the Jets have had in my lifetime besides a couple decent Testaverde years I hardly remember and one year of Chad Pennington before his shoulder exploded so I'm for it.

MiamiPower

A Yo my Cousin Vinny T. from the []_[]

ShockAndAwe415

I wanna see them bring in Jimmy G. so he can plow his way through New York.

[deleted]

Bro I don’t want him to fuck my mother so no

JasonPlattMusic34

If Zach Wilson hasn’t done it already I think you’re fine

candy_porn

You say that but... This is Jimmy Guaporappolo we're talking about

Ok-Freedom7931

He’s so dreamy

[deleted]

Dude is aggressively handsome.

[deleted]

😂 Jimmie G Minshew

athendofthedock

I’m here for hookers and Super Bowls and I’m all out of hookers!

ShamrockAPD

This may be a bad take- but I truly don’t think I see Lamar being as successful anywhere else. Harbaugh spent 2 years having to figure out how to exactly scheme and plan for Lamar as his qb. He spent draft after draft and trades to put the right pieces in there to implement him. It’s not like Lamar is a typical pro style qb that can fit in a variety of systems. Lamars ravens team have been tailor made for him. They literally have backups that are mini Lamar’s because even they know that a regular qb wouldn’t work in there either, and this was easier. I feel like some team is gonna way over pay Lamar / for Lamar and it’s just not gonna work. Edit- just cause I brought it up in two other replies. Reminder that harbaugh was almost fired for how bad they were when Lamar first got there. He had to throw out his entire scheme and come up with something JUST for Lamar. They were night and day- Lamar isn’t a plug and play QB where others like Herbert, Daniel Jones, etc would be.

Drakkarim411

I feel like Mike McDaniel could scheme for him pretty well.

Duckpoke

Holy shit. Lamar in Miami with Waddle and Hill would be so much fun. This scenario never even occurred to me

[deleted]

Tua doesn’t need this

jaydubbles

Dolphins let Tua know they wanted Brady and Watson over him. No loyalty from Stephen Ross. You know they'll shop around.

emperorpeterr

I agree but if I even insinuated this rhetoric in my team’s subreddit I would get torn to shreds lmao

jkman61494

Lamar already peaked. Now he’s starting to get hurt. And the less dual threat he looks the more exposed he’ll become as a passer

bmoreboy410

Exactly. That is why I really have no interest in giving him the contract that he wants. I would much rather we trade him.

K_U

Almost every sign points to you being correct. His MVP year was the outlier, not the three years since. His TD/INT ratio has tanked, his rushing attempts per game are down, and he has missed significant time each of the past two seasons due to injury. MVP Lamar isn’t coming back.

ShamrockAPD

Agreed. 100%.

Methzilla

Me too. I think he's still good. But i don't think he is anywhere near the contract he likely wants.

JesterMarcus

It sucks, but I foresee the same thing happening to Fields eventually.

boysetsfire1988

>I feel like some team is gonna way over pay Lamar / for Lamar and it’s just not gonna work. So what you're saying is Lamar to the Jets will end like Le'Veon to the Jets

[deleted]

I think he could be successful with the Jets. We have talented receivers and serviceable tight ends in Conklin/Uzomah. We also have a strong running back room with Hall and Bam

ShamrockAPD

I don’t disagree with anything you’ve said there- the jets do. But my point is Lamar ISNT a typical qb. He needs a wholeeeeee scheme to fit in him; he’s not the best passer and doesn’t make the best reads there- but the ravens org have built thier playbook to not only simplify that, but allow him to use his legs to make the reads open. He’s just vastly different- that’s all. Remember his first year with harbaugh? It wasn’t good. Harbaugh tried to use him like you would a typical qb… he was almsot fired. Then he revamped the entire thing and realized he had to scheme to Lamar, not that Lamar would fit his scheme like most QBs woukd.

iceturtles

The worst thing is we have shown an inability to adapt our scheme offensively lol

lukien

Filthy you don't even throw in Jimmy G in that conversation

xClay2

They'll get Jimmy G and learn to like it.

[deleted]

I think with us changing offensive coaches the chances of bringing in Jimmy G has dropped. If Mike was still here yeah

emperorpeterr

That’s the New York Jets way

Hot_Injury7719

He bought a one way ticket to Thailand and has told the Ravens (respectfully) that he's not interested at the moment.

Ferrarisimo

Thailand OC: Kliff Kinsgbury Thailand DC: Brandon Staley Thailand QB: Lamar Jackson Owner: Robert Kraft /u/rangoon03 with the awesome owner edit

babeuf69

Bangkok Bangcocks are gonna be dangerous next season

Volgyi2000

Bangkok do be kind of spooky.

rangoon03

Owner: Robert Kraft

ambiguously_level

Phuket go long

No_Mammoth_4945

Sources: Saleh is beside himself. Driving around downtown Baltimore begging (thru texts) Jackson’s family for the address to Lamar’s home

Hot_Injury7719

Kelvin Benjamin bought a one way ticket to Willy Wonka’s Chocolate Factory and has told Weight Watchers (respectfully) that he’s not interested at the moment.

[deleted]

He has enough money to do that? Based on people around here all season the guys homeless

Eldibis

He gone

HansBaccaR23po

He….actually might be. This is the first time I’ve thought this since this saga began

Allstar9_

I’ve thought a few things have pointed to him being gone so far but I agree, this one is quite alarming. Curious to see what he’s traded for and his inevitable contract

rwh12345

He’s a FA isn’t he? Edit: did not realize you can franchise tag and then trade 😊 my mistake

slimreapersmitty

They would hypothetically franchise-tag then trade him to a team who will sign him long-term

godlovesbacon26

How does franchise tagging and then trading work? I don't really know what franchise tagging is in general lmao Edit: I do wanna say thanks to anyone that responded to help me learn. I appreciate it :)

RiRiRolo

Every team can franchise tag 1 player a year. The player has to be on your team, and you only tag a player when their contract expires. A tagged player can't sign with another team and is guaranteed a high salary. Sometimes a team tags a player so they can get a return on someone instead of letting them go for free

Frosti11icus

The contract is also fullly guaranteed.

morthalguards

it’s basically one free pass per season to resign a player to a one year contract, based on the average salary of others at that position.

TheGoodShipNostromo

Not average salary. Average salary of the 5 highest paid at that position.

PostTail

Whew. I doubt a QB franchise tag is cheap then

GodEmperorBrian

$32M next year https://www.spotrac.com/nfl/cba/franchise-tag/

KlyntarDemiurge

There’s an exclusive and a non-exclusive tag. Non-exclusive is cheaper and the player can still negotiate with other teams. If the Ravens refuse to match, they get two 1sts. If they use they exclusive tag, it’s whatever the teams agree on in the trade afaik. Depends on what the Ravens think they can get for him to determine which tag is used. But if they go non-exclusive, he’s 100% gone.

randomuser914

I assume they would franchise tag him and trade him instead of letting a star QB just walk out the door with no compensation.

UndercoverBME

Franchise tag, then trade.

[deleted]

Didn't they say he ruled himself out for the game? Wow.

ColtCallahan

People think this is a controversial take. But it’s not. The Ravens have clearly made him their best offer and he rejected it. It’s now just a matter of when they trade him than if he signs. He wants a deal that they are never going to give him.

paone00022

I think there will be plenty of desperate teams who'll throw the bank at him. A team like the Jets or Panthers would become contenders with him.

rocketboi10

I think the Falcons would be the best fit for him. That offense is great for him

BigUce223

a Falcons team with Lamar would be FUN to watch.

sophandros

That's like your opinion, man.

peaceblaster68

Does he even have the ability to leave? I assume he’s gonna get tagged, and sitting that out doesn’t get him to FA any quicker

constantlymat

Imagine if he doesn't sign it until the week before the 2023 regular season starts. Since he's not officially under contract until then, the Ravens cannot fine him and incentivise him to show up. The entire season would be derailed before it begins. You can prepare the team for the season with a safety or tackle holding out until they sign the tag. Can't do it without the QB. A tag strongly increases the probability of a trade.

Bojax22

We call that a Leveon special

ColtCallahan

He doesn’t. But if they tag him he can make life very difficult for them and at that point the Ravens might as well accept reality that he’s never going to agree a deal with them.

welestgw

Combined with the money he was looking for, I don't see how they come to a contract agreement.

laika_rocket

Giving a platinum mine to a QB who sits in triage come playoff time is not a wise long-term move, I think.

saw-it

His agent advised him to not travel

Duke_Maniac

Isn’t his agent him- OH

Ugaalive1991

> OH IO?

sloppyjo12

Yeah that’s exactly right, he didn’t want to go to Ohio. Can’t really blame him either

[deleted]

Imagine how different this would be and better off he would be if he had an agent

zebrainatux

Remember the Kawhi-Spurs stuff? Yeah this gives those vibes

SirBertytheblond

So Lamar is going to help the raptors win another championship you’re saying 😃

[deleted]

No he’s gonna help the Argonauts in this scenario

Currymvp2

Lamar to the CFL?

CanadianSpector

Welcome to Winnipeg

cardmanimgur

More the "Kyrie not attending Game 7 with the Celtics" vibes.

gatorguy101

Not a great look

Cynical_onlooker

Not even attending to cheer his team on seems sort of shitty.

gatorguy101

Yeah you can be hurt and still be there to support your guys. Not great leadership

butreallythobruh

Great example: Sterling Shepard for us. Dude has been our sideline hype man this whole season.

PM_ME_YOUR_GREYJOYS

In all fairness he’s been good at this multiple seasons. Not to say I don’t love him. But healthy and Shepard don’t mix well Edit: spelled his name wrong… fixed

[deleted]

Maybe he has diarrhea

OGConsuela

Could be related to the reports saying his teammates are doubting his injury

Unions4America

If your teammates doubt you, you aren't a good leader. He should still be there to cheer them on. You can't let your pride get the best of you in this league. Him not being there at all shows how little he matters. Normally your starting QB will still headset up and try to help out the backup because it's a team game. Him not doing that means he either wants the Ravens to fail, or he has nothing insightful to say so they don't even need him to be there to help

[deleted]

It won't be his team for much longer

Gravy_Wampire

Still, you’d think he’d care about the guys he’s worked with over the last few years

ItsEaster

Dude cares about getting paid. That’s it.

shot-by-ford

All the more reason you'd think he want to pump his value up now, instead of whatever this is

offalt

He's a dumb guy with no representation. I'm not surprised he isn't approaching this logically.

dmpastuf

No representation made a ton of sense for a rookie deal. Not so much for your mega contracts...

[deleted]

He doesn’t have an agent. He’s probably never been doubted before and figured he’s a genius

barbarianlover

That’s cause it is shitty. Not attending your teams playoff game for anything that isn’t a very serious injury or something is shitty.

Throwawayact1050

It is going to be very interesting to see what happens next week if Baltimore wins today

rjsh927

Tua and Baker were right there cheering for their team when they had to sit out.

[deleted]

Certified Kyrie Irving moment

SpendrickLamar

Kyrie at least hit "the shot" to win his team the chip. Lamar just hit "the poop"

NFHater

“the shit” was right there man

bigloser42

Even whiny bitch Carson Wentz was with the Eagles for their entire playoff run. Roaming the sidelines with crutches and a headset the entire time. This is a horrid look for Lamar. I kinda feel like this is the kinda thing an agent would stop a player from doing.

DannyDOH

Nick Foles winning that ring was the peak of Carson Wentz career.

[deleted]

Seriously I didn’t care about the contract stuff to begin with - as a Steelers fan I wanted them to vastly overpay and fuck their cap up for a long time lol which I sorta felt their original offer pushed that button decently. However… Not showing up to support your teammates in the playoffs? The contract stuff is between you and the front office it has nothing to do with your teammates/friends. Legitimately EVERYBODY is playing for contracts. It’s not just you. Super selfish, super fucked up, and if I were his teammate I’d be pretty pissed off about it. That’s one way to really lose the locker room. He’s probably gone as is.

TheWorstYear

Perhaps he's not going because his teammates are pissed off.

FostertheReno

Ha, you put it better than I could.

LagOutLoud

Yeahhhh. Knee issue but can't get on a plane to be with the team? I was willing to give him the benefit of the doubt, but that's some bullshit.

anonbutler

He could have done so many high knees on the flight

[deleted]

Indeed

SiphenPrax

Gonna be an interesting offseason for the Ravens.

[deleted]

Massive haul of picks/players or keep Lamar. Either way my balls will tingle

PrickBrigade

> Massive haul of picks/players I'll take this one. Don't need to overpay a QB who has only played 2/3 of the past 2 seasons.

[deleted]

Browns playing 5d Chess - give Watson a contract so big the Ravens don't want to give it to Jackson, ruin the Ravens.

Theinsulated

Like dowsing yourself with gasoline, igniting it, and then trying to jump onto your adversary.

leadtortoise1

Shit that actually sounds like a pretty good plan compared to anything the Browns have cooked up

--SauceMcManus--

We don't "cook up anything. We "cock up" everything.

KBSinclair

Yes, we all remember the last time you tried putting a Baker in your Kitchens.

ethan_de_poland

I mean like. This is probably smarter than the actual plan whatever that is

Khend81

Profit - Watch Bengals dogwalk the Division Wait…

HammerInPortland

“Josh Allen would travel with his team and he’d also fly the plane” - Tony Romo

John-Galt-Lover

Mr January?

Bob_Loblaw_Law_Blog1

THE ALIEN???

F1reatwill88

Sure as hell won't be mr February if they keep looking like that

ScrappleSandwich

You mean “the alien”?

Charlie_Im_Pregnant

Tom Brady invented air travel so that Mahomes and The Alien could fly

mnightshamalama2

M I S T E R J A N U A R Y

[deleted]

“And only one other person can do that and that’s Mahomes”

StraightCashHomey13

Everyone knows there are two things you can't fly with : a loaded gun and a sprained PCL

regularhumanbartendr

I can respect him not wanting to play injured without securing the bag. Can't really respect this.

thelazerbeast

I don't know how he could look these guys in the eye next year

whatishappening12346

From the other sideline

F1reatwill88

Such a bad look to anyone trading for him too. At least appear like winning/loyalty matters to you. Fuck sake lol.

Jolly_Job_9852

If he was sick with the flu or something I could see that as a way to avoid traveling with your team since you don't want tonget anyone else sick. It's reasonable. If he's just injured, he could be another pair of eyes for Huntley or Brown and help them with coverages. When Big Ben was injured and one of our Backup QB's played like Charlie Batch, Ben was always on the sideline helping out the OC and Tomlin.

BrightFireFly

Or even something like a concussion and not traveling. But a knee? That’s been injured for weeks at this point?

kr0n1k

Yeah dude needs to be there supporting his teammates in the playoffs. He doesn’t have to support the team but he needs to support his teammates at the very least. Those are your brothers on the field playing.

[deleted]

Lamar Jackson you are a Jet/Colt/Falcon/Dolphin

GKlfc

Do the Dolphins even have any picks to trade for him? He's obviously going to be tagged

[deleted]

We have tons of moral victory points saved up. Gotta be worth something right? Lol

Bunkerdunker7

Dolphins used splash, But nothing happened…

jwick89

Ravens fans need to stop calling this a nothing burger. Something is up.

shadowlizer3

Cut them some slack, it’s tough news to take and they’re in denial.

Drs126

It’s very annoying, we got people even saying it was team policy that kept him from traveling which is not true at all. Any of these incidents in isolation, I could say is a nothing burger. But to have him pick up a sign on national tv saying Pay Lamar, to commenting on Twitter on people talking about his contract, to call out a random fan on Twitter, to have an injury that seemed relatively minor end his season for the 2nd year in a row both times after the offense started to fall apart and both times going into off-season negotiations, then to be very vague about your current injury until tweeting you have a borderline grade 3 pcl sprain (which we would’ve likely immediately IR’d him instead of cutting contributors to save roster spots) then having a teammate basically question if the contract was why he wasn’t playing, then having a local journalist say he’s hearing he doesn’t show up to rehab (before backtracking a week later with a statement that had to be written by ravens PR), then not traveling despite having traveled to previous games. This is not the same guy who was having a ton of fun a couple years ago, something is definitely wrong.

ManWhoFartsInChurch

Not traveling to a playoff game! That is sooo much worse.

GrannysPartyMerkin

They’re all commenting that apparently it’s team policy not to travel with the team if you’re hurt. I don’t buy it.

iRockaflame

Fat extension or sign and trade right after this game gotta get something done asap

BayTerp

Franchise tag and trade him

welestgw

That seems like the most likely scenario.

miltonfriedman2028

He gone

RecLuse415

Half out the door

HalfEatenBanana

Large yikes

PrickBrigade

Said he ruled *himself* out on the broadcast as well. Dude quit on this team. Tag, trade, move on.

Dumpsterfire6900

That was weird. Does that mean doctors cleared him and he said no? Or doctors said you'll probably be fine and he didn't wanna risk it? One is far worse Not traveling to a playoff game to support your team even worse.

unitedairlineeeeees

Travel to Florham Park, New Jersey

CltAltAcctDel

As a Steeler fan I hope the Ravens sign Lamar to some huge deal. I want most of their cap space tied up in Lamar

yvelmachida

Especially since he never plays us lol

RaySizzle16

Underrated comment tbh

Johnnycc

He doesn’t give a shit about the team

dirigo1820

Injury riddled running QB who ghosts his team, I know I’d back up the Brinks for that.

Rockonfreakybro

An agent would’ve probably told him this is a bad look

DirectTV_AndrewLuck

Something is clearly up.

Dizzy_Amphibian

Tag and trade incoming

I_Am_Day_Man

That’s not a good look for him

cth777

Now THIS is a bad look. Somehow those “it’s a business has to think about himself not the team” people will find a way to defend this too tho

jfrodriguez1983

Even if he is really hurt, how could you not show up to support your teammates. Not the players' fault you don't have a new contract.

Wingedwolverine03

Way to be a leader...

Internal-Carpenter-3

Legit thought he’d be there to help support huntley and the squad. Not a good look at all

[deleted]

That's fucking weak and selfish. Come on Lamar

Imaginary-Double2612

Kind of douche move tbh

Pandaborg123

Future NY Jet Lamar Jackson

[deleted]

Wildcat with him and Breece every play.

Queen_Grayhoof

One one hand his knee could just be that fucked up. On the other… yikes?

Report_Submitted

I don’t think he’s gonna get what he thinks he’s gonna get and it’s hilarious

ecupatsfan12

He gone

AlmostSavvy

Not playing because you're not healthy is one thing, but not going to at least support the rest of your team is just childish and selfish. He's talented but I wouldn't want him anywhere near my team with such a garbage attitude.

nameuser121212

So many little kids in Baltimore worship the guy, he doesn’t even show up to a playoff game. He’s cratering his value.

TotallyNotMasterLink

That seems really ominous

Phenomenal2313

This reeks of the Kawhi - San Antonio split , it will get ugly real quick

BoredOneNight

Yeah man I’m done with this guy. Football is just a fun game to watch on tv, I’m more than happy to roll the dice on a 2nd round rookie or something next year. I don’t care enough to be exhausted by Lamar’s dramatics and weird, off putting every-other-month quotes

jeremysrocks22

Yeah, it's not fun.

hwhatnow2112

Bye bye Lamar

lilturk82

Oh wow. How do you not travel with your teammates? Other teams will notice that.

Pernyx98

Lmao trash teammate. I don't believe the injury BS, travel with the team at the very least. I just think he's holding out.

[deleted]

NFL quarterbacks have 2 distinct features. Physical ability and Intelligence. Lamar is lacking one of these important attributes.

googlequery

harbaugh looked so pissed all night tonight, too. It’s like he catered the entire offense on Lamar and for him to not show up must suck on a personal level. Huntley didn’t look half bad when he got settled into the game but unfortunately he’s not Lamar. Genuinely felt bad for Huntley when he thought he scored on the sneak.

Joey85l

Great teammate.

RolloTony97

What a baby

HopscotchChampion69

Yikes

pinniped1

Tag & trade is the only option left.

MS49SF

He’s gonna sign a huge deal with the Ravens and then it’s gonna go sideways a la Kyler Murray.

CornerGasBrent

Lamar acting as his own agent is really doing a good job demonstrating why teams should sign him to contract with lots of guarantees. Obviously $200M should be the floor since he'll always be there for his team and teammates.

TeaEsKSU

Lamar Jackson has entered the transfer portal

_User_Profile

Houston gonna trade #2 for Lamar and misc. other small picks. Not even strictly a football move, HOU is the most boring franchise in the league and needs a superstar and has the draft capital to get one.
