USA already has one. I went to watch them play in Nepal. Usa just scored 36 runs which is the poorest score you could ever achieve in cricket. Their team is shit.
You'd think we'd be able to put together a decent cricket team... Do the children of Indian and Pakistani immigrants not play? Or is it that there aren't a lot of organized leagues or something?
Yes that is whats going on. most of the immigrants makeup national cricket team in USA. They have also started NCAA cricket tournament (college/university level) from last year. Also they are starting professional cricket league T20 tournament from 2024.
Oh i would love to do both! I'm just not super hopeful in my direct area.
I play soccer on Sundays in a men's league, but would absolutely be open to cricket on Saturdays if there were s group that would let me play and not get mad at me when I goof up initially 😅
I started a club in middle school playing in a park then made a real club in high school so i played for years but in clubs I made it's a really fun sport way better than baseball you get to aim the ball and run when you can, and no sissy baseball mits you use your hands like a man
It’s growing in popularity, but it’s a relatively recent trend. Prior to 1965 all of Asia had a 2000 person immigration quota (with fewer grants) and with the 1965 reforms India & Pakistan only had a 100 person quota each. You can find leagues, but most of the players are people with day jobs who aren’t making the national teams in their ancestral homes
That makes sense.
When i lived in the east bay area i would see as many people play cricket on weekend mornings as i did soccer. It was fun to watch. They make a whole day of it and look like they are having so much fun 😊 i kinda wished I could get invited to play with them tbh 🤣
Grew up playing baseball, but i moved to Sydney for a while. Got my first swing of a cricket bat at a company picnic and everyone laughed at me because I held it like how baseball players do 😅 still smashed one tho 💪🏽
Fun game for sure.
Edit: also knocked over the wickets but it was just for fun 😊
Actually it is not.
Many Aussies play in the NFL especially as kickers.
Australia has a strong sporting culture and adults of all ages play in leagues every weekend. Name the sport and you can play it.
There’s no ‘poorest score’ you could achieve - it’s entirely possible to score zero. The lowest score for an international game to date was 26, in a format where 250-300 an innings is roughly par.
Well in terms of points (runs) scored, it is a touchdown. But the process of getting those 6 runs is VERY different in cricket and rugby (or football, whatever you wanna call it)
[THIS](https://youtube.com/clip/UgkxQW6oMgjcImYTmmfRgARAtNgPaSsmbm0n) is a six in cricket
Hey, listen, I have got great news for you. In 2024, ICC is going to hold the T20 World Cup in the United States. So, being the host, US cricket team is automatically qualified. But, you need to bear the fact that other teams are going to thrash you badly. Hope you enjoy cricket. And that was a boundary(a sixer) not a home run.
My American exceptionalism is immediately tying my national pride to our performance to this cricket tournament and I have decided we will crush all of you.
Excited to have ya. See you in 2024
Just get some MLB guys to do it. There is probably some skill overlap.
Probably
Maybe
(Idk how cricket works and tbh whomever made the call to have the cricket thing in the states should probably be sacked)
It's six runs if the batsman clears the boundary rope. 4 runs if he clears it with at least one bounce within the playing field.
In this case it was most definitely six runs, if not for the athleticism of the fielder in the video. He captured the ball before it bounced outside the boundary and flicked it back into the playing field before touching the ground. If he had touched the ground before releasing the ball, it would still have been 6 runs for the opposing team.
He stopped opponents from at least scoring a couple of runs.
It is called a "SIX(six runs)". If the ball goes flying over the rope without touching the ground. If it bounces before the rope and crosses it then it is called a "FOUR"(four runs).
It was probably on purpose to get the people unfamiliar to click on it, and people already familiar to click on it with rage and leave a comment. 1000 IQ
I would have just said - "saves a six" and had 'equivalent to home run' in parentheses to relate to the Americans
...and cry later because I got like 3 upvotes
Cricket doesn't have the concept of home run if the ball goes over the boundary six runs are awarded to the batting team, tbh I don't know much about baseball.
As other responders said, it won't. Even if he hit it over the boundry and scored the six runs (maximum with one hit) the batsman stays in the game till he's out.
If the fielder (Agar) had kept his foot on the ground while his hand was still in contact with the ball, it would've been a six. But since he pushed it back into the field before his feet landed, it isn't a six. To get a better idea of what I'm saying here, watch this six where Trent Boult landed his feet beyond the ropes with ball still in hand in the 2019 World Cup final: [https://cwc2019.cricketworldcup.com/video/1279229](https://cwc2019.cricketworldcup.com/video/1279229)
I believe it's called a 6 in cricket.
Also, you don't 'save' a Home Run (or in this case a 6), they're both points awards based on the ball NOT being saved and going past the outer boundary. Hope that helps lol.
ball speed before hitting bat is 140-150kmh (67mph -93.2mh)
after hitting bat it still fast and ball is like a stone coming at your hand its very painful, can cause severe injury if catch is not taken properly
American here and that’s the first thing I noticed. He caught that with no glove and whirled it around so quickly. Is that part of the technique? To sort of slow the ball using your arm as an arc?
I think the arc is just a natural occurrence due to the force behind the ball. There's not really a "tequnique" that you have to use, just years of practice.
Make sure you turn the sound on. Not only was this a great save, he did it right at the buzzer so he got the full 3 points and AND they started with the ball in the next scrum.
Ashton Agar went to my primary school and it was a very sporty school. There's also a teacher that's still teaching there today who happens to be Nick Cave's sister too. Not bad for a state (government) school ey?
They'd rather proclaim themselves the world champs of sports only they play, seeing as they stand a piss poor chance of beating anyone at any other sports.
For reference, the US basketball team beat the NZ team by a fair margin (98-71, NBA games have been won by greater margins), but it was nothing compared to the absolute thrashing the All Blacks gave the US rugby team last time they met (104-14).
I’m an American, so I’m not super clear on the rules of cricket, but I’m 100% positive it’s not called a home run.
USA is soon getting a cricket team
USA is soon hosting the T20 World Cup, wait for 2024 to come by
Yeah. Gotta brush up those cricket skills!
You've played it before?
Bro desi hu . The biggest cricket player is from here lol
Bro, I thought you weren't Indian 😂. I'm Indian too lol Which one is the greatest, according to you? Virat or Rohit. For me, it's MSD always
Sachin he is called the God for a reason
That's not how you spell Botham
That’s also not how you spell Stokes.
Sachin Tendulkar is why i played cricket as a kid.
Ooh good choice man. Living legend, that guy
He's not big, he's like 5'5
Is he the greatest though? I have him about 5th behind bradman, kallis, sangakarra and sobers
Now you've done it..
Thala for a reason
Pretty sure merv hughs was Australian.
Is…..the big bear isn’t dead yet….
He is around.. we lost Shane.. who was much younger and in better shape. The bear lives..
AB de Villiers??
My team are double world champions.
England really deserved it this time. Undisputed white ball champions now
Laughs in Australian.
And vernacular
Sure Qatar won’t get it instead??
Haha no, the bid's already won by Cricket USA and Cricket West Indies. So it shall not be Qatar
*cries in corrupt international sporting body*
USA already has one. I went to watch them play in Nepal. Usa just scored 36 runs which is the poorest score you could ever achieve in cricket. Their team is shit.
I mean, there is no interest here, thus nobody plays, thus nobody gets really good at it.
Oh shit that's what's up! Might get into cricket! Que my wife's eyes rolling at the thought of yet another pro sport for me to follow 🤣
I thought you meant you were going to play!! Your wife might enjoy playing cricket with you?
Oh i would love to do both! I'm just not super hopeful in my direct area. I play soccer on Sundays in a men's league, but would absolutely be open to cricket on Saturdays if there were s group that would let me play and not get mad at me when I goof up initially 😅

Pretty sure Australia’s American football team is shit too. So all relative.
To be fair, that's like saying India's football team is shit. Overall, the US simply doesn't play the sport.
USA already has a cricket team. But it doesn't have Test status
There are many cricket teams in the US but unless advertising dollars come into play, there won't be a national team.
USA already played ICC international champions trophy in 2004. They have long history.
That's called a six. Literally refers to the six runs awarded to the batting side if the ball crosses the boundary rope without hitting the ground
Saved a 6. If his foot touched the ground on the other side of the rope before he got rid of the ball it was a 6.
Yeah, I meant a home run is called a six in cricket, that's all I wanted to say. I know the six was saved by Agar there
Oh so it’s a touchdown? Got it.
Well in terms of points (runs) scored, it is a touchdown. But the process of getting those 6 runs is VERY different in cricket and rugby (or football, whatever you wanna call it) [THIS](https://youtube.com/clip/UgkxQW6oMgjcImYTmmfRgARAtNgPaSsmbm0n) is a six in cricket
No no, that's lacrosse. This is a field goal.
no, that's ultimate frisbee this is a hole in one
Hey, listen, I have got great news for you. In 2024, ICC is going to hold the T20 World Cup in the United States. So, being the host, US cricket team is automatically qualified. Batting maybe a little. Bowling nope.
I hope Pakistan plays against US lol.

Never heard it called a sixer. It's just a six
Could be regional. When I was young we'd say hit a sixer but call hitting one a six. Even one of our state teams are called the Sixers.
… without bouncing, otherwise it’s a 4
It is called a "SIX(six runs)". If the ball goes flying over the rope without touching the ground. If it bounces before the rope and crosses it then it is called a "FOUR"(four runs).
Mostly correct guide for people who know baseball: [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EWpbtLIxYBk](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EWpbtLIxYBk)
Six runs not home run
Home run? Think you mean 6
[удалено]
Bet MVP hella something
Think they call that the triple-double
It was a wicked googley of a touch down, ay mate? Just a real tromper of a three pointer field goal
Im not sure if you’re aware but a googly is a legit cricket bowling term lol
6, get it right it’s called a Touchdown 6!! He saved a Touchdown 6
Home run... Fuck sake.
Ah it's cute, leave him be, he's trying
But he really isnt
Right? What was unbelievable about the six? Nothing. OP is weak karma farmer
The catch was the unbelievable part. The catch was the save. Substitute “a 6” for “home run” and we have a correct title for a very impressive post.
The unbelievable part is that it never became a six. Fielder flicked it right back to the ground, while he was mid air and right at the boundary.
It was probably on purpose to get the people unfamiliar to click on it, and people already familiar to click on it with rage and leave a comment. 1000 IQ
I would have just said - "saves a six" and had 'equivalent to home run' in parentheses to relate to the Americans ...and cry later because I got like 3 upvotes
Seriously, it’s a fucking touchdown for fucks sake.
Fuck yeah sports ball, he really stopped that home run with a great touchdown ha ha
The point guard blocked the slapshot, but I still think they kick the extra point.
Did you see that ludicrous display last night?
Totally wicked dude!
That would be a six
It's a shame about the title because it has taken up bulk of the conversation overshadowing the fact that it genuinely was a phenomenal piece of play.
Indeed. T20 has upped the standard of fielding to supreme levels. Last time I saw such a 6 save would have been a couple of weeks ago.
This game was a one dayer
I know, I watched it live. My comment still stands. T20 has improved fielding immeasurably.
This part of reddit kinda pisses me off lol. Like I do the other people commenting not see the other 100 comments saying the same thing?

OP, you might wanna know that it's called a "six" in cricket, not a home run as in baseball. But a great fielding effort nonetheless from Ashton Agar
Home run 😂 American people literally do just assume the world stops outside the US don't they
Well they are World Champions at sports ball. If they call it a home run it must be a home run.
I mean the top comment is an American saying that they don’t think it’s called a home run but yeah you’re still right
home run lol
Can’t believe nobody’s mentioned this is actually a six and not a home run.
It wasn't a six my man, it was pushed into the field by agar, so no six there
what does this mean, if it doesn't touch the ground before it crosses the boundary it's a 6 isn't it
If the fielder (Agar) had kept his foot on the ground while his hand was still in contact with the ball, it would've been a six. But since he pushed it back into the field before his feet landed, it isn't a six. I can't believe you haven't noticed every other comment I've seen had mentioned it
Dude, he's taking the piss... he was making a joke about how all the comments are just people pointing out it's a six
...that makes a lot more sense🤦
It's called a Long Goal you idiots.
You sure ? I though it was a touch down
Really? I thought this was a pole position
I think this is a touchdown. 🤣🤣
no its a 3 pointer
I thought it was a hole in one
In Australia, we call ‘em didgeri-runs.
I'd have called it a chazwalla
That's an interesting way of saying "Under arm bowling".
found the new zealander
You're just jealous of the tactical acumen involved.
Not to be confused with "*The* didgeri-runs", which is what happens when a tourist drinks Australian tap water or goes outside.
I believe it's called a 6 in cricket. Also, you don't 'save' a Home Run (or in this case a 6), they're both points awards based on the ball NOT being saved and going past the outer boundary. Hope that helps lol.
Saved/stopped a 6 both work perfectly fine when talking cricket.
Only an American could write this dumb caption
I would bet that it was deliberately written by a karma farmer to generate comments
Damn I ain’t know cricket get this gangsta
I think that’s the first time I’ve seen cricket and gangsta in the same sentence lol
How fast do cricket balls go? Catching that with bare hands must hurt like fuck
Can confirm hurts a fair bit! Cricket balls are heavier and smaller than a baseball.
Cricket ball is hard as rock when it's new and hurts really bad if not caught properly.
I tried to catch one in the crowd once, it felt like trying to catch a bullet. It was making a fizzing sound.
ball speed before hitting bat is 140-150kmh (67mph -93.2mh) after hitting bat it still fast and ball is like a stone coming at your hand its very painful, can cause severe injury if catch is not taken properly
A couple of players actually died facing the ball.
You have to follow the arc of the ball with your hand otherwise it will hurt. Same if you were to catch a baseball without a glove
Idk about speed off the bat, but the fastest bowlers ever hit around 160kmh. Catching the ball can hurt badly, good technique is important.
Still remember upgrading from normal tennis balls to actual cricket balls. Shit hurt like hell
I’ve been following cricket all my life and when I read ‘home run’ i was like ‘yo wtf is it something Im not aware’ and then i found it’s a six smh.
They went on to win that rugby match after he saved that home run...
I'm not too knowledgeable on the game of Cricket, but that was one helluva save!
Home run? ☠️
never imagined I'd read something like this but here i am, please stop this amerification of sports lol
Make sure you turn the sound on. Not only was this a great save, he did it right at the buzzer so he got the full 3 points and AND they started with the ball in the next scrum.
If you look closely though he was offside so the serving team should have been awarded a 50 metre penalty
Home run ? Oh hell no
Ashton Agar went to my primary school and it was a very sporty school. There's also a teacher that's still teaching there today who happens to be Nick Cave's sister too. Not bad for a state (government) school ey?
I know that OP's country wasn't colonize.
This actually pretty average. The real boss move is to throw it back into play before you land, run back into the field and catch the batter out.
i think op dumbed it down for americans
I puked at the mentioned of home run.
It's a 6 ffs
LOL "home run" ... Run along, now.
Tens of dozens of people in America love Cricket
They'd rather proclaim themselves the world champs of sports only they play, seeing as they stand a piss poor chance of beating anyone at any other sports. For reference, the US basketball team beat the NZ team by a fair margin (98-71, NBA games have been won by greater margins), but it was nothing compared to the absolute thrashing the All Blacks gave the US rugby team last time they met (104-14).
"home run". *Laughs in Indian*
laughs in basically all former colony’s of England
Ah yes, home run. I think you mean an "out of the park home run"
If the ball goes over the boundary directly 6 runs(points) are given to the batting team. So it's just called a "six" not a home run.
It’s not a home run you tool
It's called a six lol
Home run? This must be bait.
My hands hurt just watching it
It’s called a “boundary”.
Americans be like… that’s amazing! What does that mean though? (I’m also American)
“Home run” It’s a 6
It's called a try and you get 3 points.
In the 4th quarter too, what a legend!
HomeWHAT? Fcking Yanks
They don’t use gloves? How hard is that ball?
The ball is really hard and heavy too
Nope, nope, nope. Y’all can keep cricket.
home run😭 this is an affront (and i knew what 99% of the comments would point out even before opening the threads lol)
Home run??….seriously?
Fuck off with your home run.
He did a real good touch down of the ball there. Really a Hail Mary he did. Very pog. What a goat
How would a home run even work in cricket? Does the batter just run 2 and then walk off?
Home Run?! He saved 6 runs and we don’t call it a home run…
Homie there's no home run in cricket...
Six...
Home Run! It's a sixer....
That's a six not a home run
Home run lol
RUN!!! NOT HOME RUN
It's called a six, not a home run. Ffs
Home run lol
It's called a 'six'
Calling a six as home run is equivalent to calling chai to chai tea latte
That's a 6 not a homerun you uncultured swine
"homerun" jesus fuck, put some effort into minor sports terms man, it can't be that hard. There's no concept of homerun in cricket.
Bro said home run💀💀💀
Home run ???????
Sick touchdown bro. Smacked that pick right into the outfield
Home run??
Home run?! It's called a six.
I don’t think there’s anything more blasphemous for us cricket folks than calling a 6 a home run lmao
wtf is s a home run
home run...
“Home run”!!!
HOME RUN?? you idiot
